Dear Akinmed, Thank you for your email about the paragraph headlined 'Adopt them because , ' in the Nigeria team profile on the BBC Sport website. This passage was intended as humour, but we accept it was inappropriate and have removed it from the site. We apologise for any offence caused. Thank You -------------------------------------------------- @TUDOR I am really disgusted to have u as a fellow Nigerian. You a big disgrace to Nigeria. |

@Tudor ure a bloody c.unt lemme break it down; we are not up in arms against anybody here we saw a flagrant abuse of our right to be addressed properly and we raised it up and justice was served how that correlates with your usual jaundiced way of analysing issues is beyond me 1- This isnt about the decay in Nigeria 2- this isnt a crusade or a struggle to show BBC who we are This is just calling an idiotic reporter to order if that cannot sink, then i cannot help maybe illusion2 can try |

tkb417: *YAWN* lemme break it down; we are not up in arms against anybody hereshut up! What have you done about your right to have your vote count in nigeria? Right to good and transparent government nko? Right to democracy? Right to justice in Nigeria? Right to constant electricity and water? Right to good roads, hospitals and social ammenities? Right to be treated respectfully by the police?. . . . . . You LEFT all these to go fight for your right to be ''addressed properly by a foreign website''- you are A CAPITAL IDIOT LIKE ALL NIGERIANS. Bunch of misplaced priorities! how that correlates with your usual jaundiced way of analysing issues is beyond meoh yea? Will the BBC be making gags about 419 if nigerians directed their energies towards fighting for a better society and good governance? If the government concentrated on capacity building instead of looting us dry would we have people turning to crime? You all see this yet we dont see you doing anything about it. Instead of going to the root cause of the problem and FIGHT those who hold us to ransom, cowardly basterds prefer to attack and flex online muscles at foreigners who mock n scorn at their stupidity,. . . Bloody cowards!!! This is just calling an idiotic reporter to orderNigerians are the true idiots

This sort of approach works well with the BBC because in such a society, there are negative collateral consequences that can grow into a major PR disaster on a national scale. the BBC has come to understand this and have taken face-saving measures. (not that they were honestly apologetic if you read the retraction) but the effect is the same nonetheless, the offensive news is off the web (after been read, blogged and spread by literally thousands of Internet users world-wide) In Nigeria, there are negative collateral consequences as well and they continue to send reverberating negative PR shock-waves around the globe but there is no amount of expression (positive or negative, passive or aggressive, peaceful or war-like) that will bring about face-saving retractions or reforms or change in Nigeria. What we have are shameless leaders in nearly all spheres of activity from corporate to governmental, an aggressive registering of opinion as was done here will have no effect on our corrupt leaders. none at all |

@ Tudor u can call us online campaingers/champions/warriors, whatever, when i laid my complaint to the BBC management and not the journalist as u've bn stressing on, i made my complaint with my full uk home address and home phone number, With all due respect to you, but i must stress this, ur level of imagination is appalling, go get a life mate, people like u make me sick of sharing the green passport with u, u are not fit to be called a nigerian, though i'm of dual citizenship, I AM STILL PROUD TO BE ADDRESSED AS A NIGERIAN, if u feel u a not a coward, i will send you my phone number, u need to be lectured on our to comport yourself amidst intellectuals |
Re: Nairalanders Overcome Biased Online reporting on Nigeria !! by Tudor6(f): 10:41am On Jun 03, 2010 |
alamsdee:is it really? is it the same way you are SILENT while the nigerian politicians mock you and sh.i.t on you BUT astonishingly very very vocal when a website types a few lines? i laugh alamsdee:oooooohhhh what a champ! i dont need your phone number or address. . . i need you to march to ABUJA and demand change and justice- or are you just a specialist in typing crap spam emails all in the name of campaign to BBC just to feel among? people like me make you sick of carrying the green passport? am i the politician in ABUJA who is looting this country to bankruptcy? it just shows you are a COWARD, you'd rather attack ME and blame me for nigeria's problem rather than confronting the bastarrds responsible err did i just hear you mention ''intellectuals''?? i laugh. . . .below is a quote of the daft email you send to the BBC as a complaint From: Akinmeddoes the above not portray you as an illiterate? do you know the meaning of ''racial discrimination''? or you were just looking for a big word to use. pls dont ever mention your name and intellectual in the same sentence, it's an abomination. your whole complaint and campaign consisted of ONE foolish sentence. . . infact, i've changed my mind, dont go to Abuja again, stay in the uk and enjoy your puddings. we do not need to import witless individuals to demand change we have plenty of them back home in nigeria

Tudor's line of reasoning is fatally flawed. There is no connection between emails allegedly emanating from Nigeria and Nigerian team at the world cup - that is the focus of this issue. By that token. the comment on the BBC profile was distasteful and tried to paint majority of Nigerians as fraudulent. That is defamation at the very least and a crass generalisation. It is the duty of anyone who feels offended by such a statement to complain and get reprieve. Regardless of the 'grammar' or language used by akinmed, it achieved the desired intent of getting the offensive comments removed. The fact that an individual does not march to Abuja does not render him/her a coward - it is the individual's prerogative to air his displeasure as he deems fit. Neither you Tudor, nor anyone else has a right to define what would constitute cowardice or not. The validity of this particular grouse is not dependent on any other perceived wrongs of the Nigerian government. If you feel a need to be a 'real champion' then go protest in Abuja or wherever you please - it is not for you to determine what individuals should do or not do. If you are inclined to exercise such control, I'd suggest you join the armed forces or emigrate to North Korea to become the next 'Great Leader'. |
