BusinessdayJul 23, 2024 2:31 PM Lagos students disassociate from planned August 1 national protest …Plan solidarity walk for Sanwo-Olu Students under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos Axis, have announced they would not be a part of the planned national protest by some Nigerians, tagged #End Bad Governance in Nigeria”. The national protest is planned for August 1 to 10 to draw the attention of President Bola Tinubu-led government to the plight of Nigerians, hunger, and rising cost of living in the country. But the students body in Lagos said they would rather have a “Solidarity Walk” to support and encourage the government of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who they said has been of great support to them. The students said their solidarity walk would also hold from August 1 to 10 to drum for peace, especially to ensure that the ugly incident of #EndSARS” of 2020 does not repeat itself. “In these trying times, it is crucial that we remember stability, peace, and constructive dialogue in achieving our collective goals”, said Alimi Idris, chairman, NANS, Lagos Axis, at a news conference at LASUCOM, Ikeja, on Tuesday.

Middle Belt Youths Won’t Protest Against Tinubu, Bago’s Administration – NCYG signalng.comJul 20, 2024 10:49 PM The North Central Youth Group, a vibrant coalition of young people from the Middle Belt, has distanced itself from any form of protest against President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umar Bago of Niger State. The group’s stance comes after a thorough evaluation of the leaders’ performances, which they say has brought hope, opportunities, and smiles to the faces of Nigerians, particularly the people of the North Central region. A statement jointly signed by Abdullahi Mohammed and Barr Fidelis Elaigwu described President Tinubu’s administration as a beacon of light in just one year, illuminating the path to a brighter future for Nigeria. They said Governor Bago has also been making giant strides in his administration’s focus on agriculture, education, and youth empowerment. “President Tinubu’s visionary leadership has led to the implementation of the National Development Plan, a comprehensive blueprint for economic diversification and growth,” the statement said. “This laudable initiative has already started yielding positive results, with the economy showing signs of stability and growth. “Additionally, the President’s establishment of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council has brought together a team of experts who provide sage advice on economic matters, further solidifying his commitment to good governance. “Moreover, President Tinubu’s dedication to youth empowerment is a testament to his belief in the potential of young people to drive positive change. His administration’s innovative programs, such as the National Talent Export Programme, the 3 Million Tech Talents (3MTT) initiative and Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) have provided countless opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire skills, gain employment, and start their own businesses. “These initiatives have not only impacted the youth positively but have also positioned them as key players in the country’s development narrative.” The statement added: “On his part, Governor Bago’s commitment to agriculture has transformed Niger State into a major food hub in the region, providing a sustainable source of food and income for the people. “The Governor’s passion for education has led to the construction of new schools and the renovation of existing ones, creating a conducive learning environment for students to thrive. “Bago’s reforms have had a direct and positive impact on the youth in Niger State. His administration’s youth empowerment programs have provided training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people, enabling them to acquire skills, start their own businesses, and become self-sufficient. “The Governor’s dedication to youth development is evident in his policies and actions, and we commend him for his unwavering commitment to the future of Niger State.” The youths, therefore, described President Tinubu and Governor Bago as champions of good governance, visionary leaders, and true advocates for the welfare of Nigerians. “Their selfless service, integrity, and passion for development have earned them our respect, admiration, and endorsement.” They, however, urged other “youths to join us in supporting these leaders, who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our collective progress.” The youths noted: “We recognise that challenges still exist, but we believe that President Tinubu and Governor Bago are working tirelessly to address them. “We urge our fellow youths to be patient, supportive, and constructive in their engagement, rather than allowing themselves to be used by political manipulators. Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our region, and our country.” |

reubenabati.com.ngJul 23, 2024 5:52 AM The Presidency has slammed the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, over his comment regarding statistics on Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). ‘Peter Obi’s Motive To Destabilize The Country Is Clear’ – Presidency Reported that the former Governor of Anambra State raised concern over the lingering economic crisis in Nigeria, recalling that Nigeria had the biggest economy in Africa as of 2014. Taking to his official account on X on Monday, Peter Obi, said the country’s economy soon began to drop in 2015. In his message, Obi drew attention to the stark difference between Nigeria’s economic achievements during its early post-democracy years and its current economic condition. According to him, upon returning to democratic rule in 1999, Nigeria saw an average GDP growth rate of approximately 6.72% over 16 years, 1999-2014. However, he highlighted a decline in this momentum, with GDP growth dropping to 2.79% in 2015, leading to an economic downturn in 2016. In response, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga countered Obi over what he called misleading statistics. He wondered why Peter Obi would be reviewing the economy at this time, saying the motive is clear. Onanuga said Peter Obi aims to work up his mob plotting to destabilise the country from next week. He wrote, “Labour Party failed presidential candidate, Peter Obi has come up with his misleading, half-truth statistics again. The big question is why this economic review at this time?. The motive is clear: he wants to work up his mob plotting to destabilize the country from next week.”

10:20, 21st Feb, 2024 BY ARISENEWS Igbo Will Stand By Tinubu, Won’t Join Any Protest, Says Ohanaeze President Iwuanyanwu “We expect him also to reciprocate this gesture by giving us what is our due in the federation. We are not asking for another person’s position.” The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on Tuesday, has directed that no Igbo group or community in Nigeria or in Diaspora should join in any proposed and ongoing protests or demonstration against the economic hardship under the President Bola Tinubu administration. Iwuanyanwu reminded the Igbo that since the 2023 presidential electoral matter has reached the Nigerian Supreme Court, where they declared Tinubu winner, the Igbo had decided to support Tinubu. “We expect him also to reciprocate this gesture by giving us what is our due in the federation. We are not asking for another person’s position,” he stated in a release personally signed and titled: ‘Message to All Igbo Worldwide’. Iwuanyanwu declared: “As your leader, I am directing that no Igbo group or community in Nigeria or in Diaspora should join in this action. I am still studying the situation.” He averred that it was a critical period in Nigeria as events in the country were disturbing. “The economy has turned very bad; a scepter of frustration is everywhere. I have received many entreaties from many parts of the country requesting me to call Igbo to join in demonstration and violent action in the country, against the government. In the lengthy message, Iwuanyanwu raised several issues bothering on what he described as marginalization of the South-East geo-political zone in all ramifications Related News: At Enugu Meeting, Igbo Leaders Adopt, Inaugurate Iwuanyanwu as Ohanaeze President 'Unthinkable': Buhari Wonders Why Any Igbo Man Would Want to Exit Nigeria Pandora Papers: I Did Not In Any Respect Violate Any Law, Peter Obi Says Amongst others, he argued that the South-East occupied “is the only geopolitical zone that has only five (5) states. This situation has cost us billions of financial losses. It has also cost us losses in both political appointments and legislative representations. “In 2005 and 2014, we raised this issue at various conferences. All men of goodwill at the conference agreed that it was unfair for the South-East to have only five states and recommended that an additional state be created in the South-East but up till today, this has not been done.” Iwuanyanwu maintained that there he had drawn the attention of the federal government to this injustice against the South-East, adding that this statement should serve as a notice that if no step was taken by the federal government and the National Assembly towards the creation of an additional state in the South-East, he will have no choice than to go to court. Iwuanyanwu further argued that in an occasion where Igbo youths and youths from other tribes at various times expressed their dissatisfaction with events in the country, whereas youths from other tribes of the country were reprimanded and forgiven. “The Igbo youths are arrested, incarcerated and even charged for serious offences. For example, the arrest and detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu generated a lot of problems for the Igbo. “Many Igbo, including governors, members of the National Assembly, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and business leaders pleaded with Mr. President for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu but without success. “Also, there are many Igbo Youths detained in various correctional Centres for flimsy excuses. For example, there is a case of Eze Fredrick Nwajiagu, who has been in detention in Lagos without any justifiable reason,” he stated The leader of the apex Igbo organisation further decried the fact that though the Civil War was brought to an end on a note of ‘No Victor, No Vanquished’ culminating in an agreement of the 3Rs – Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction – the 3Rs were never implemented in the war-torn areas.
