The Program Director of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), Engr. Micheal Oluwagbemi, has announced that the conversion of commercial petrol and diesel-powered vehicles to CNG will now be at no cost to the vehicle owners.

The announcement was made public by the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Dada Olusegun, via his X account (formerly Twitter) on Thursday evening.

Olusegun wrote, “While we are still basking in the euphoria of the Local Government Autonomy judgement, the Program Director of the CNG Initiative @busanga has, today, declared that the conversion of petrol and diesel-powered COMMERCIAL vehicles to run on CNG is now going to be free of charge.”

He further explained, “This implies that members of NURTW and RTEAN will benefit from a partnership deal with conversion companies that will provide services to them for free.”

In addition, a significant discount will be extended to ride-sharing services such as Uber, Bolt, and Lag-Ride. “Meanwhile, further 50% discount will also be extended to riders such as Uber, Bolt, Lag-Ride, etc. with a provision for installment payments also made available. They can also get their conversion done without paying a single kobo that very day,” Dada added.

The P-CNG initiative is part of the broader effort to promote the adoption of CNG as a sustainable energy source for the future.

The development followed the recent commissioning of 12 CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) in partnership with NIPCO on July 4. This strategic move aims to alleviate the burden of high transportation costs on Nigerians following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu in May 2023.

LEADERSHIP reports that under the Presidential CNG Initiative, NNPCL and NIPCO Gas have entered into a strategic partnership to expand CNG stations across Nigeria. The collaboration is set to establish 35 CNG stations nationwide.

The effort is part of the government’s response to curtail the significant increase in fuel prices, which rose from N197 per litre to N617 per litre after the fuel subsidy removal announced by President Tinubu on May 29 last year, significantly raising transportation costs.

Calabar was just a capital for few years before almagamation of Nigeria. That is what gave Lagos a lead as most developed state, the same way Abuja is been built with Nigeria wealth.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a fuel gas mainly composed of methane, compressed to less than 1% of the volume it occupies at standard atmospheric pressure.

It is stored and distributed in hard containers, usually cylindrical, at a pressure of 20–25 megapascals.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) announced that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is 40% cheaper than Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Nigeria and commissioned twelve new CNG stations in Lagos and Abuja, aimed at reducing transportation costs in the country.

CNG provides Nigeria with affordable alternatives to existing fuel products. It will be about 40% cheaper than petrol and, with continued investments, will become a significant part of our energy mix.

National Ranches Commission Establishment Bill Proposes Jail Term for Defaulters
advocate.ngJun 15, 2024 5:08 PM

The National Ranches Commission Establishment Bill, 2024, which has passed the second reading in the Senate, proposes a five-year jail term and a N50,000 fine for defaulters if it becomes an act of parliament.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Titus Tartenger Zam of the APC from Benue North West, aims to establish ranches for herders in their states of origin, replacing the current practice of open grazing to address the issue of herder/farmer clashes in Nigeria.

If enacted, the National Ranches Commission would be responsible for managing, preserving, and controlling ranches nationwide. The bill faced opposition from Northern senators but eventually passed the second reading on June 5, 2024.

Part 1V, Section 23 (1) of the bill states that anyone who contravenes any provisions of the Act or regulations made under it shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of N50,000 or imprisonment for five years, or both.

Part 1V, Section 22 (1-7) lists actions that would result in imprisonment, including alienating any rights affecting land constituted as National Ranches, making improvements without approval, encroaching on National Ranches, bush burning, hunting, using chemicals, felling trees, destroying the ecosystem, and allowing livestock to wander, roam, move, or graze outside National Ranches.

The bill is intended to regulate the management of ranches and promote a more sustainable and peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers in Nigeria.

Weeks after the controversially reinstated old national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee,” a report has emerged that a Nigerian lawmaker is working toward the restoration of the country’s old regional system of government.

News of the bill circulated on social media in the past few days, but the leaders of the House of Representatives disowned it, clarifying that the bill had not been presented before the House.

The drafter of the proposed legislation, Dr Akin Fapohunda, has expressed his will to table the bill to President Tinubu.

If assented to, it will be forwarded to the National Assembly as an executive bill, where the 10th Senate will deliberate on it.

What is regional system of government?
The regional system of government is not new to Nigeria; it was used in the past before Nigeria’s first military Head of State, General Aguiyi Ironsi, restructured the model in 1966 to a unitary system.

At the time, there were three regions: Western, Eastern, and Northern. The Mid-Western region only emerged a few years before the whole model was crushed.…Click Here To Continue Reading>>

In the system of government, each region is allowed to control all resources within its borders, and royalties are paid to the central government.

It is the polar opposite of what we have presently, where the federal government controls all the resources and gives revenue to state and local governments. It was after the restructuring that the regions were broken down into states.

Aguiyi Ironsi made the stylistically groundbreaking historical move after many national leaders were murdered by rebellious soldiers, prompting him to introduce the unitary model.

Deji Adeyanju Sends Message to Tinubu
In another report, human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has called on President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Adeyanju highlighted that the Supreme Court has deemed Nnamdi Kanu’s detention legally questionable due to his extraordinary rendition.

Adeyanju expressed disappointment in Tinubu’s administration for not adopting a different approach from Buhari’s.

PoliticsWe’ve Lost Over 400 People, Igbo Community In Benue Cries Out by lexylaw09(op): 6:47am On Jun 11, 2024
The people of Ezza in Benue State have decried incessant attacks and killings by suspected warlords in Ado Local Government Area of the state.

The people said they have lost over 400 people in the vicious attacks and killings.

This was contained in a statement signed by some of their leaders, including Mrs. Perpetual Okafor, the President General, Ezza-Ezekuna Benue, Linus Nweke, Board of Trustees Chairman, John Izekwe, Chibueze Ngbabu, Publicity Secretary and other leaders. They accused Uffiom warlords in the Ado local government, Benue State, of being behind the killings.

“It has become imperative to write this, in order to put the records straight for the general public to know about the undeserved atrocious activities by the Uffiom people against the Ezza people and the unjustifiable double-dealings of some Ado stakeholders aimed collectively to worsen the already exacerbated aftermaths of the crisis.

Going down memory lane, on January 22, 2021, the ill-fated crisis broke out into a full blown war between Uffiom and Ezza tribes in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. On the same day too, the Uffiom people resumed coordinated attacks on Ezza Benue people, ranging from abductions and killings of Ezza people in Ulayi, Odum and further extended the heinous, outrageous and heartless massacre to other Ezza communities under Ado local government jurisdiction.

“Exploring some instrumentalities of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), the then Chairman, Ado local government area, James Ogaba Oche, on February 11, 2021, initiated a peace deal by inviting stakeholders and custodians of both Ezza and Uffiom to Ado for “covenant and oath-taking.” To make the “covenant and oath-taking more comprehensive and all-inclusive, the invitation was extended to our Izzi brothers and all the district heads in Ado to stand as witnesses.

“The major terms and conditions of that covenant, among others, were that: neither Ezza nor Uffiom people must harm or kill one another in Benue State; that both parties – Ezza and Uffium – should never, again, destroy properties belonging to each other for any reasons, whatsoever.

“That, whosoever, contravenes the restrictions of the covenant between the two tribes – Ezza and Uffiom – then, the other tribes in Ado, will collectively join forces with those whose person(s) is harmed or killed to fight the defaulters. To our greatest chagrin, however, it would surprise you to know that, since after the Peace Pact mediated by then chairman, Ado local government area, there has never been a month or even less than that, that passes without a calculated maiming, slaughtering and butchering of countless numbers of Ezza people in Ado district by the blood-thirsty Uffiom people.

“Yet, Ezza people, being peacemakers and strictest keepers of covenants and oath-takings (entered and agreed upon in good faith) in the history of mankind, have neither contemplated to hurt nor to kill any Uffiom person here in Benue. One faithful day in Ogebe, Apa Ward, more than 160 Ezza people were killed in their cold blood. Again, another day at Okpobula, also in Apa Ward, over 40 Ezza people, most of whom were innocent children, helpless women and aged men, were killed by the rapaciously indiscriminate Uffium warriors.

“Besides, at Nwokwo Odoke, Ulayi Ward, over 20 innocent and defenceless people were killed; at Odum in Ulayi, five chiefs were abducted in one day, one killed and thrown inside well, while many more were killed on sight; the same applied at Ichari, where one chief was abducted and many killed.

“Also, at Otsukputu, more than 30 people were killed; at Inikiri, over 40 people were attacked and eventually killed; at Ojiegbe, more than 30 people were killed; at Anmeka, over 50 people were killed, and lately, Uje has also faced a series of unmitigated attacks, where aged men, women and children were shot and slaughtered by the said Uffiom warriors unchallenged.

“In summary, over 400 Ezza people in Ado have been killed by the Uffiom people and her calamitous agents whereas Ezza people of Benue have neither injured, not to talk of killing any Uffiom person, in Ado, Benue State nor destroyed their properties because we, the Ezza indigenous people of Benue State, remain law-abiding and are propagators of a harmonious peaceful coexistence between Uffiom people in particular, and among other tribes in general.

“Those Uffiom people living together with our people in Odumoke Ijigbam, here in Ado Local Government Area will attest (if they want to be sincere to themselves) to this because we are still cohabiting peacefully without any rancour or qualms,” the people stated.

PoliticsSW Governors Adopt Common Agenda For Regional Governance And Prosperity by lexylaw09(op): 9:52pm On Jun 10, 2024
• Lagos Governor, Sanwo-Olu, Becomes Forum’s Chairman

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!
•Economic Integration, Security, Food Production Top Priority At Meeting

Regional economic integration, food production and regional security are the main items that top the agenda at the meeting of the South-West Governors’ Forum held in Lagos on Monday.

At the meeting held behind closed doors in Alausa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the host, was unanimously elected to lead the Forum as chairman.

Sanwo-Olu stepped into the position, following the vacancy occasioned by the death of the former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, who chaired the regional caucus.

Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sanwo-Olu (Lagos) were all physically present at the meeting, which lasted for four hours. They all paid their last respects to the memory of the late Akeredolu, who passed away last December.

The Forum reviewed security across the region, pointing out that South-West had been relatively peaceful in the Southern part of the country. They, however, used to platform to renew their call for creation of State Police to further strengthen safety in the region.

They agreed on the need to forge a security cooperation in order to enhance economic development and free movement within the region.

The Governors also called for more collaboration between security agencies and Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun Corps.

The Forum commended the House of Representatives and members of the Southwest caucus in the National Assembly for their efforts at passing the South-West Development Commission Bill, urging the upper chamber of the federal parliament to speed up the bill passage.

To expand food production and agricultural development, the Forum also directed their respective States’ Commissioners for Agriculture to immediately come together and develop a comprehensive agricultural template that would leverage on each State’s comparative advantage.

Rising from the meeting, the Forum, through its chairman, Governor Sanwo-Olu, read the 11-point resolution adopted in the communique signed by all the six Governors.

Sanwo-Olu said: The Southwest Governors’ Forum, at its meeting today, June 10, 2024, deliberated extensively on contemporary issues in the South-West States and resolved to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on the groundbreaking of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, and the proposed Lagos to Sokoto road. We, however, encourage the Federal Government to rehabilitate other federal infrastructure in the region.

“On security, the Forum commends the relative peace in the South-West region and notes the collaboration between all security agencies and the Amotekun Corps. We reaffirm our full support for State Police. We acknowledge the efforts of the Federal Government to strengthen food security. We decide that Commissioners for Agriculture of all the South-West states should begin to meet and set up a working template, which will ensure collaboration based on each State’s comparative advantage.”

On lingering disagreement on Minimum Wage, the Forum said it was in support of the efforts of the Federal Government, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and the Organised Private Sector to resolve the wage dispute, while urging continued engagement with the Labour Union.

The Governors said they believed the outcome of the negotiations for better wages would reflect true fiscal federalism.

The Forum hailed the Federal Government’s efforts on exploration policies on mineral resources, but called for collaboration with States in the process to grant leases to investors.

The South-West Governors adopted a popular song composed by Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group, titled: “Ise wa fun ile wa”, as common anthem across the six States. They condemned, in strong terms, nefarious activities of a group of people agitating for Yoruba nation, stating that the region remained an integral part of the country.

“The Forum agrees to strengthen the DAWN Commission on operational efficiency and charges the Commission to focus on economic integration, cooperation and investment promotion of South-West states. To that end, each State is mandated to appoint a State focal person,”
Sanwo-Olu said.

Minister of Steel Development Collaborates with Consortium to Revive Ajaokuta Steel Plant
Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, the Minister of Steel Development, has initiated discussions with a consortium led by the original developers of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL), Tyamzhpromexport (TPE), to revitalize the steel plant.

During a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, the minister urged the consortium, comprising representatives from Russia’s TPE/Rostec, Novostal, and Nigeria’s Proforce, to devise a blueprint for the swift revival of the Steel Plant. Salamotu Jibaniya, head of the press & public relations department for the ministry, confirmed this in a statement.

Audu emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aimed at steel production and industrialization in Nigeria before the end of his first term.

Following the meeting, Audu plans to visit Moscow at the invitation of TPE and other consortium partners to explore funding opportunities amounting to approximately $2 billion required for the steel plant’s revival. He expressed gratitude to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nigeria for facilitating the meeting, acknowledging the potential economic boost such a partnership could bring to Nigeria.

Sergei Egorov, the general director of TPE and leader of the consortium, commended the minister’s efforts in assembling the consortium to revive the long-dormant steel plant. Egorov’s team of technical experts, after touring the Steel Complex, expressed optimism about its revival potential and pledged to conduct a comprehensive technical audit to finalize their decision.

Valery Shaposhnikov, the deputy head of the Russian Embassy in Abuja, lauded the partnership as a significant step towards the mutual benefit of both countries. He praised President Tinubu’s commitment to reviving Ajaokuta, highlighting the unprecedented political will demonstrated by the Nigerian government since the Shehu Shagari Administration in 1979.
