Mujtahida:
But the idea of DMs who play like that lingers
You are right , what you see now is the (CM) role in fooall! the traditional role of the CM as a game controller, dictating the pace and flow of the game, has evolved. Modern football has become more dynamic, with CMs now often required to be more versatile, defensive-minded, and athletic.

The days of the traditional "regista" or deep-lying playmaker, like Andrea Pirlo or Xavi, are indeed fading. Now, CMs are often expected to:

Break up opposition attacks
Win the ball back quickly
Distribute it simply to maintain possession
 Support both defense and attack

While this shift has made the game more intense and physically demanding, it's true that the CM role might not be as creatively focused as it once was. However, there are still some exceptional CMs who can control the game's tempo and dictate the flow, like Kevin De Bruyne or Luka Modrić.

another Kante will come maybe in another 5 years ...

Creative midfielders are a dying breed. It is the Kantesque type of midfielders that proliferates now. And it's such a big disappointment.
you will rarely find a work horse in midfield now ...

So what do think might finally play out here because Eguavoen just rejuvenated the team and showed a lot of promise so NFF should know that retaining him is the best move.
i am in support of anything that will move the team forward , AE has his limitation , but so far he is the best we have now , NFF cant afford a grade A coach or probably corruption will not allow that to happen any time soon ... but while we are waiting for a better coach let AE continue.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by lexyman(m): 10:43pm On Sep 10, 2024
AE assignment was to take them to play the African qualifier , he is not the coach yet , he is the technical director of the NFF , he will be call upon again to clean the mess smiley

smart move by the NFF .. THEY NO WANT HIRE COACH , THEY WANT DEY TAP HIM BRAIN . if i were to be AE , I will remain in that my T.D post just dey do some clean up . till they are ready to appoint a foreign coach or give him a proper contract ... with the clause to return as the technical director when the contract ends .

unfortunately i didn't watch the match , i was in transit . but the highlights i just watched shown that Rwanda played negative football .... just shooting aimlessly and their goal keeper made some good saves ... maybe my opinion would have been different if i had seen the match ... how does throw- in become an off side? african referees need to learn .

Hamzat Ojediran (CM/DM) is gonna be the next Naija revelation in Ligue 1.
His 26mins of action vs Monaco for his league debut was really bright. Damn. That kid is high intensity and decently cerebral.... workrate is also off the charts. Similar in some ways to Alhassan Yusuf but with better balance and can't be easily knocked off the ball.
@Elyte89, your partnership will be so good. you have a team already ... treat Supernerd with care and utmost respect. grin grin grin

Eguavoen too needs to go all out when it matters most and it will be difficult to sack him. The game is all about results especially the crucial ones, yesterday match was crucial and he won. The next game he should try not to lose at worst get a draw many will not raise eyebrows but if loses then the cycle starts all over again. It’s all about results, even if it’s haram soccer get the damn results and keep your job.
AE is the technical director of the NFF , at worst he will go back to his position , but i want him to succeed , his success means allot to all of us ..

FunFacts

- Gernot Rohr gave Victor Osimhen his first official/competitive Super Eagles appearance in Uyo back in 2017 vs South Africa in an Afcon Qualifiers.
Osimhen featured for 5mins off the bench as an 18yrs old rookie.

Nigeria lost that game 2-0.

- 7yrs later and Victor Osimhen Scores his 22nd International Goal vs Gernot Rohr's Benin Republic in UYO to go third in the Super Eagles All time Top Scorers chart.

Nigeria wins 3-0.

Thank you Rohr and also, Get Out!!! 😁

Ademola Lookman is Nigeria’s best and most technical player atm.

I am glad he’s getting his accolades finally.

He is is easily the best player we’ve had in about 10 years. Consistency and clutch..
suddenly where did you keep Victor Moses ... no doubt he plays very well ... but let him grow into the super eagles team completely

Danielnino00:
Rohr started well with Nigeria but over time, he regressed... the sign were there for all to see.. he started playing like a coward... we were struggling to beat supposed minnows..
Countries like Benin republic are his level cus they have the profile to execute his style of football that relies on parking the bus.. Eguavon isnt really that good, but to say we would have been in a better place if we hadn't sacked Rohr is a lie... There is a reason why he was appointed by Benin republic and not top teams like Morocco and Algeria after he was sacked..
until people learn to be objective in their judgement and analysis ... till tomorrow they will still argue that Rohr would have won the world cup with the Super eagles ... Rohr is tactically deficient , and he is just a one direction manager , he will not do anything extra ordinary if we still have him ... we have a team that is mobile , we have young guys who still have it in them , we have one of the best striker in the world . .. Rohr style with this crop of players would have been a disaster . let's put Rohr in our past . he wouldn't have done anything special .
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by lexyman(m):
why are people bringing up Rohr 's matter here , before he was sacked , Super eagles became a very deplited side , that even Togo would have beaten , Rohr made us a laughing stock at some point , Eguavon came with a beautiful style of play , but came in at a critical stage . we can be better if NFF remain focused . Hacking off Rohr was one of the best decision , but the timing was wrong .let Rohr come and proof a point today by beating AE . . AE assembled our best legs today ..
