The Liberia mission was predominantly funded and executed by Nigeria “on a conflict that did not directly affect its own security, at a time when its 1995 foreign debt stood at $35 billion,” hence the conclusion that, “No Western nation, especially following the Somalia intervention, could match such commitment.”[xlvii] Nigeria accounted for over 70% of the force and 80% of the funding expending about $11 billion in the process.[xlviii] |
