The All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the investigation of Africa Independent Television, AIT, for broadcasting what it called “fabricated and hate broadcast” against its presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The party made the request in a letter to the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission. It also wrote to the Director General of the Nigerian television Authority, NTA, Sola Omole, to tender an unreserved apology to APC and Mr. Buhari for broadcasting a similar documentary. The two letters were written by the Director of Legal of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, who is also the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Imo State. In its letter to the NTA boss, the campaign council asked him to disclose to it the real sponsors of the hate documentary and to also meet with the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, with the view to packaging a retrieval broadcast. “Failure on your side to comply immediately with the above demands, would certainly force us to take drastic court action against you”, the letter to the NTA read. The APC said NTA was goaded into carefully and intentionally turning itself into a willing tool for hate groups that do not wish Nigeria well. The letter calling for the probe of AIT, dated January 26 reads: “I bring to your attention the fabricated and hate broadcast by AIT against APC and its presidential candidate. “This hate broadcast has been on from Saturday, 24th January 2015 to Sunday 25th January 2015 at 11p.m. “All well-meaning Nigerians and persons all over the world are worried that Daar Communication Plc could do this evil to Nigerians’ sensibilities by broadcasting fixed and fabricated lies for hate purposes. “The twisting of facts on the broadcast is unprecedented”. The campaign council noted the allusion to the fact that Mr. Buhari had contested in the past and failed but cited the case of Abraham Lincoln, who failed elections for over seven times yet he became one of the best presidents in history of the United States of America. “APC and her presidential candidate are aware that every life has its past but that past must not be a fabricated one. No nation can build its future and elect its true leaders on falsehood and hate broadcast. In a clear move to stop the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari from contesting the election, a legal practitioner, Mr. Chukwunweike Okafor, on Monday, approached the Federal High Court in Abuja with an application seeking the court to disqualify the candidate over issues bothering on his credentials. The case tagged FHC/ABJ/CS/01/2015 has Buhari, APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission as the first, second and third defendants respectively. The suit was filed pursuant to Section 131 of the Constitution, which prescribes a minimum qualification for nomination to participate in the presidential election and Section 31 of the Electoral Act that requires all presidential candidates to depose to an affidavit that they have satisfied and complied with the constitutional requirements to be President of Nigeria. The complainant, in the suit filed through his counsel, Chief Ugo Ugunnadi, is contending that Buhari’s form CF001 with the INEC, wherein he stated that he obtained the minimum educational qualification of West African Senior School Certificate could not be valid as the said certificate was allegedly forged or not genuine. The plaintiff, among other things, is asking the court to declare that “the information contained in Buhari’s affidavit dated November 24, 2014, stating that the Secretary of the Military Board was in custody of his WASSC was false and thereby disqualified him from contesting the 2015 general elections.” The lawyer is therefore seeking an order of the court “compelling INEC to withdraw, remove and/or delete the names of the 1st and 2nd defendants from the list of persons or political parties eligible to contest for the Office of the President of Nigeria in the 2015 general elections.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/01/27/certificate-saga-buhari-dragged-court/ |

Over 2000 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Tuesday in Suleja decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Alhaji Abdullahi L. Sulieman, who was three times Suleja Council chairman, said they had to leave APC because it had no direction, adding that they were also made to swear by the Quran to abide by rules and directives from the party. ''APC is the only party that will make you swear with the Quran to abide by rules and directives of the Party which we did but when we discovered that it is all deceit, we had to leave the Party back to the PDP where we left from'' "We had to return to the party that we can see its structures and development on ground because there is no ward in the 25 Local Government Councils in the state that has not received dividend of democracy through the Ward Development Project." He also stated that the over 2000 decampees are from ten wards in the state, adding that more will join them.
