The two things you mentioned: character and competency, these are fundamental and instrumental in delivering quality leadership

Democracy was never designed to identify the "best" candidate because character, competence, and capacity are quite subjective.

At its core, democracy is simply about allowing citizens to decide whom they trust enough to hand political power to. In that sense, every election is essentially a referendum on public trust under conditions of uncertainty.

Which is why I think PBAT won the 2023 presidential election. Among all the candidates, he appeared to be the one voters trusted most across the country to keep his word, having built a reputation for doing so over time.

I'm not really convinced vote-buying determined the eventual outcome. I don't doubt it occurred, but I'm open to reading credible research on the extent of its overall impact.

One area has a known history of terrorism, while the other does not. I would suggest politicians are extremely careful in handling Osun state. in 2011, they went against directive and voted for Nuhu Ribadu.

In 2023, they voted against Tinubu to send a clear message.

The governor painted the freezing of the account as victimisation. That can ruin APC's chances not only in the governorship elections, but the presidential elections.

Totally pointless; that EFCC needs a total overhaul. What stops them from reaching out to invite the vendors the state government is funding to explain the nature of the transactions? This was an overreach, and God bless PBAT for doing the needful.

Well, Kenya is a country while Lagos is a city. The comparison should be between Kenya and Nigeria as countries. We can then compare the number of terrorist related incidences and death.

How about this: the proposed refinery is expected to be located near Lamu in a region with a history of multiple terrorist attacks, while Dangote's refinery is in Ibeju-Lekki, which has virtually no history of insurgency—not even within a 100 km radius.

Tinubu started the religion conversation by insisting on a same faith ticket. But beyond that, he should have been more respectful of the Catholic Bishops who were eminently qualified and entitled to their opinion. His advisers decieved him, thinking that attacking the Clerics would indirectly sway northern Muslim votes to his already fast depleting vote bank. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.

These are perhaps some of the inconvenient truths about our politics. For a South-West Muslim to realistically become President, they're almost always going to have to pair with a Northern Muslim. That's simply the political reality we operate in, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I do think the whole Cardinal issue could have been handled much better. That said, considering how Amaechi has positioned himself within the opposition, it's also possible the entire episode was orchestrated politically—and perhaps the Presidency saw through it and responded accordingly.

While I largely agree with you, you should know the state has the resources and time to drag the matter all the way to the Supreme Court. That means the governor could complete an entire eight-year tenure before a final judgment is delivered. Then there's also the issue of whether the LGA is truly the third tier of government or just an appendage of the state.

He probably has identity issues but if proven, the late Iyaloja is also guilty and not only him.

If he’s guilty, it’s probably not just iya-oloja. Before biometrics, it was kinda a known thing for people to travel with a relative’s passport, since the older system was easier to game, and biometrics later came in to curb that there were agents for this especially on the island and around the airport. Even in the utopia regional government being clamoured for, most of the problems bedevilling Nigeria will still subsist because it's the people, not the system. Although I concede that insecurity will likely be at its lowest, again because of the nature of the SW people, aside from that, corruption, nepotism, poor maintenance culture, etc., will still be the order of the day.

That's the problem with our society. Middlemen will siphon away most of the money, with very little actually reaching the people the funds are intended to help. The same thing can be seen across many charities operating in the Northeast.

As for Emergency services; lagos is prioritizing faster access by locating small emergency off take points in areas prone to emergencies this means even in crowded areas you’ll get fast response. What’s your own state government doing??
