Politicians cannot steal outside the country's Government budget.

If a country's budget is 20 billion dollars, there are some obligatory spending like loan servicing, recurrent expenditures, subvention payment etc which cannot be avoided that will take about 80% of the 20 billion. The remaining 2 billion is what the Governor can then allocate for anything. So, basically there is a 2 billion cap to the amount he can steal.

For example, you mentioned desks. I agree that 300 million should be able to supply good desks to a lot of schools. After the desks, what next? Teachers are still badly paid, the schools you just supplied desks to have bad gates and doors so the desks are also at the risk of being stolen, the school building roof is also leaking, etc. So many problems but you have used 300 million to buy desks.

If politicians stop stealing Today, things will become marginally better but it won't suddenly transform Nigeria into Germany.

This is on the State level. Do you know what is happening in the local government/ LCDAs around the country? Is Nigeria poor? I think a legitimate argument can be made for that, especially when you consider our population and GDP in comparison to other developing or poor countries. However, it begs the question as to why we run such an expansive style of government.

First I am confident that our population figures are lies that's for sure.
We have two issues and those issues are as a result of the 1st issue.

1st we have thieves who steal the country blind as leaders and they are very wasteful
2nd we are currently broke as a nation as a result of the 1st reason.


The amount of money that a governor steals from his state is unbelievable and yet there's still more to be stolen which shows there's money available after a period of time.

Now imagine if he actually uses just 600billion to face projects in rivers.
Our expectations are in hell for governor performance
