RomanceRe: My Girlfriend And I Are Both AS by Liz(f): 7:35pm On Apr 09, 2008
Dear Patosky84,

It is a tough call if you want to have healthy biological kids from both you and your girlfriend.  Below is an excerpt from a website which gives you an option albeit expensive and not always foolproof.

"Prevention

If you carry the sickle cell trait, you may wish to see a genetic counselor before trying to conceive a child. A genetic counselor can help you understand your risk of having a child with sickle cell anemia. He or she can also explain possible treatments, preventive measures and reproductive options.

There is an in vitro fertilization procedure that improves the chances that parents who both carry the sickle cell gene will have a child with normal hemoglobin. This procedure is known as preimplantation genetic diagnosis. First, eggs are taken from the mother. Then, sperm is taken from the father. In a laboratory, the eggs are fertilized with the sperm. The fertilized eggs are then tested for the presence of the sickle cell gene. Fertilized eggs free of the sickle cell gene can be implanted into the mother for normal development. However, this procedure is expensive and not always successful."

Adoption is another option.  You can help take care of orphans out there.

Goodluck with whatever decision you make.
PropertiesRe: House Sharing For The Working Class by Liz(op): 10:51am On Sep 05, 2007
Thanks guys for your feedback.

@btayo1

There will be terms and conditions in the tenancy agreement  which would clearly state that no long term visitors are allowed.  A maximum stay of a few days to a week maybe.  However a clause may be included stating that a maximum 2 week stay may be allowed if all housesharers consent to it.

@ king-jaja and $$Rhino

Well I was thinking the sector of society that may be interested in this kind of scheme might be: the working young middle class maybe with similar interests e.g young engineers, secretaries, admin staff, bankers, IT specialists, or even people who work in a different cities or areas quite a distance from where they live, or young adults who are ready to leave their parents home but can't afford a house of their own. Do you agree?

Also, the security and reference issue is one that will be given careful consideration.  A thorough check of 5 to 10 years history will be conducted.  Prospective housesharers will be required to fill out a history form extensively and these will be thoroughly checked out by dedicated agents who will go out in person to the previous work addresses etc to confirm this.

I am still at the research stage, but yes I am looking to make this feasible.

Thanks again guys for your responses.  Keep them coming!!
PropertiesHouse Sharing For The Working Class by Liz(op): 1:48pm On Sep 04, 2007
Hi all,

House sharing is not a new concept in Nigeria. However it is only common in the face-me-I-face-you kind of housing. House sharing has not caught on in the middle end housing market for example with Duplexes with en-suite bathroom facilities in each room and communal kitchen and dining area.

What do you think are the reasons for this? I know some people would not be comfortable living with strangers because of security reasons. Would you feel more comfortable if an accommodation agency for example carried out thorough security and reference checks on prospective house sharers?

I reckon its a good idea as schemes like this could possibly alleviate the accommodation crisis in Nigeria.

Please let me know if you would consider house sharing by saying Yes or No and then giving reasons. General comments are also welcome. Many thanks.

Nice topic.  Not every business can target the rich.  I think the most important thing for a guaranteed and reasonably steady income is to target a 'NEED' and not a 'WANT'.  In an economy where cash flow can be tight even some rich people will forgo their WANTS but will always fork out for their NEEDS.

Re: Pre-Marital Sex Is Not Fornication
« #114 on: Today at 02:31:12 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 & 1 Corinthians 7:1-2

"Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What  know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband"

It is implied here that two people of the opposite sex should be joined in marriage to prevent fornication.  This  implies that  sexual intercouse before marriage is a sin. Therefore whether or not  fornication or premarital sex mean the same thing, the fact still remains that the bible preaches that man and woman should be married to avoid pre marital sex = sin.  Even if the bible did not call it "premarital sex" - it is implied.

@ Akolawole

Do you know what criteria the airlines use to determine the distribution of the tickets to travel agencies?

@Chumas

How far have you gone with it. Have you encountered similar problems as I have? Lets share our experience.

Cheap Air Tickets To And From Nigeria

Hello,

I am looking to start a travel agency for worldwide travel but with particular emphasis on Nigeria and other African countries. The operational bases will be in England and Nigeria initially with the main medium being the internet. The aim is to provide the cheapest airfares to the aforementioned destinations.

My intention to venture into this market has been informed by having to pay ridiculously high prices on airfare to Nigeria from England in the past. The plan is to have a little profit margin on each ticket but gain a massive customer base which i think makes good business sense.

I understand i would need to be IATA qualified or registered to buy directly from the airlines at really cheap prices.

Another easier and less capital intensive option would be for me to buy from IATA qualified bulk agents and then resell. I am more inclined to take this option. However i am having difficulty locating or contacting any bulk agents who can give me a reasonably low price so i can pass on the savings to my potential customers.

Does any one know any bulk agents that offer cheap tickets to resellers? Has anyone ventured into this in the past? I would greatly appreciate some pointers.

Thank you.
BusinessRe: Creating And Running A Business Empire by Liz(f): 5:06pm On Jul 26, 2006
I think you have a sound idea here.   It is logical to assume that if one owns a large stake in a business which he/she manages, one will be inclined to make it work.  You however need to have a thorough selection process for your prospective partners/managers.  You need to ensure that they are interested in longevity of the business and not short term dividend pay outs.  Otherwise you might have a high turnover of managers which is not good for the company.

You do not mention if these managers will actually buy into the business or are 'given' 40% by virtue of their position.   You could even structure it such that  they start of with a smaller share holding  say 15-20% (these are just arbitrary values) and then they gradually or quickly rise up to a maximum 40% share holding depending on their performance.  It would be good to have preset milestones which will dictate the pace at which they rise to the maximum holding.  The key thing as you mention is that they are only able to sell their shares to you.

You also do not mention what happens with the other 10%.  Will there be a clause which will prevent the manager from acquiring this extra 10% (this would ensure that you remain the majority share holder and prevent potentially disastrous clashes at board level).

"Each company will serve other companies within the network and will also be free to look elsewhere for business."
Will the goods and services be offered at competitive rates or discounts as they are sister companies?

The idea of a loan market is sound as it ensure that sister companies can help the others take off at the investment stage.  Again I wonder if this will be at a competitive rate or interest free.  If so there would have to be stringent checks in place to ensure that the budding company does not underachieve because it may be reliant on the fact that it has a low or interest free loan rate.

If a particular unit is not doing well, I'll contact the manager to find out what's wrong.  If I lose confidence in a any manager, I'll just buy him off (shotgun clause).

As the major shareholder, you will have to agree before hand what "not doing well" means.

Anyways as I said I think you have a sound model and you should try to see it through.
