Education / Oyo, Osun Tumble As Abia Tops WASSCE State Performance by lokobyforch(m): 7:17am On Aug 11, 2017
Abia, Rivers, Edo, Imo and Bayelsa have emerged the best performing states in the 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

The quartet led the chart in the performance of school candidates who passed five subjects in the examination, including English and Mathematics, in 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the offshore countries of Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Republic and Cote D’Ivoire.

Abia came out strong at 81.54 per cent, followed by Rivers State at 78.59 per cent. Edo State was third with 77.41 per cent while Imo State recorded 76.46 per cent. At 74.38 per cent and 71.83 per cent Bayelsa and Anambra states emerged in the fifth and sixth positions nationally.

The ranked performance of states in five subjects in the WASSCE (including English and Mathematics), is released annually by the West African Examination Council, with the latest being the 2016 diet of the examination.

Typically, candidates are expected to have at least five credits, including the two prime subjects, to gain admission into any higher institution of learning in the country.

Other states which recorded a good outing in the examination include Ondo (68.43 per cent, 7th position), Taraba (64.76 per cent, 8th position), Lagos (64.31 per cent, 9th position), Delta (63.43 per cent, 10th position), Enugu (61.14 per cent, 11th position) and Cross River (60.42 per cent, 12th position).

However, the South-West states, often regarded as leaders in the education sector, put up a less sterling performance in the examination. Aside from Ondo, Lagos and Ekiti which emerged in the seventh, ninth and 14th positions respectively, Ogun and Osun states, with 53.24 per cent and 46.77 per cent respectively, were outperformed by five northern states, including Borno, to emerge in the 19th and 24th position nationwide. At 36.69 per cent, Oyo is the least performing of the south west states. It emerged in the 29th position nationwide, falling further below Adamawa, Ebonyi, Kano and Katsina states.

At 14.25 per cent, Yobe State is the least performing on the chart, emerging in number 38. Others include offshore countries (Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Republic and Cote D’Ivoire, 37th position); Zamfara (16.07 per cent, 36th position); Gombe (17.36 per cent, 35th position); Jigawa (18.45 per cent, 34 position); Kebbi (22.65 per cent, 33rd position); Sokoto (29.90 per cent, 32nd position) and Bauchi (33.82 per cent, 31st position).

According to the Head, Public Affairs Unit of the WAEC, Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu, the state ranking is released annually and sent to ministries of education to assist in the implementation of policies in the education sector.

“The ranking is sent to states so that those who are already doing well will not rest on their oars and those who are not doing very well can look at what the states with best performing candidates are doing in order to improve. It is also to help states to implement their policies in terms of teaching and learning, pupils’ attitude, teacher training, among others,” he said.

Politics / Senate Vs House Of Rep. by lokobyforch(m): 5:48pm On Jun 16, 2017
Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) and Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio (PDP, Akwa-Ibom), were locked in a battle of words on Thursday over which chamber of the National Assembly was superior.

Drama started when the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi), while explaining the powers of the legislature in budget appropriation, said the Senate and the House were of equal status.

Akpabio interjected by raising a point of order.

He insisted that the Senate was superior to the House in terms of status.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom said it was in recognition of the superiority of the Senate that the constitution gave additional responsibilities to it.

The constitution assigns additional responsibility to the Senate and excluded the House; that’s confirmation of nominees.

“This is why many people contest for Senate from the House. I hope one day the deputy leader will contest for House and go back there,” he posited.

Within seconds, Senator Lawan raised a point of order and backed Na’Allah’s position

He noted that Akpabio’s submission cannot stand as both legislative chambers complement each other.

I’m in support of the deputy leader’s position. I was at the House for eight years; I’m convinced that no chamber can make any legislation without the concurrence of the other.

“If you cannot send a bill to the executive for assent without the House, you will know that none of the chambers is superior to the other.

“The Senate only has an additional responsibility. I moved from the House to the Senate to participate in the additional responsibility of the Senate and not legislation,” he explained.

As tension grew, Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, intervened.

“The matter has become a controversial one; we should just leave it,” he ruled.

Senate, after the drama, adjourned plenary for 3 weeks, to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the 8th Assembly and Eid-El-Fitri festival.

Incidentally, the two ‘gladiators’ were involved in the decision to adjourn.

Lawan moved for the adjournment which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio.

That's the problem with ur ilks, u lack intelligent and analytical reasoning.
Government affairs is not based on discretion, it entirely based on provisions of the constitution. And these provisions must be strictly adhered to. That's the more reason why constitution is being amended on a regular basis. If you don't have enough knowledge of how government operates its better you keep quiet.
But when Buhari could not provide the necessary certification, the constitution was not important, when judges were treated like mare criminals, the constitution was debatable, u are just ignorantly foolish...

Don't mind them. Supporters of corruption will always support their corrupt heroes.

Back to the debate, Falana expantiated at length citing difference sections of the constitution and court judgments while Ozikhome didn't elaborate enough with sections of the constitution that give them the power and also no explanation of court orders.

I give it to Falan
Really, u are saying a school principal cannot discipline a school teacher because it was not stated in the appointment letter, we bend nominal Nigerian laws just to suit selfish interest... a police man does not have to wear uniform because he was first a citizen.

Politics / Mike Ozekhome Vs Femi Falana On Ndume's Suspension by lokobyforch(m): 9:18pm On Mar 31, 2017
Abeg who win this debate?

Mike Ozekhome

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Mike Ozekhome, has stated that the Senate has the right to summon it’s members to order at anytime.

“The Committee of the House or the House, can summon any person. it says any person, and it didn’t say some people.

“It didn’t say whether those elected or not elected. Any person; to bring papers, memos, come with evidence, and that if such a person is summoned to come and testify or to come and answer questions and he refuses to come, under Section 5, the Branch of the National Assembly can order the Police to arrest and bring such a person.”

He added that “the Senate President or the Speaker of the House of Representatives if satisfied that the person has entered into recognizance, they can release the person but if not satisfied, they can tell them to keep the person there.”

He made his position known while speaking on Channels Television’s Breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.

Mr Ozekhome’s view was however in contrast to that of his colleague, Mr Femi Falana, who believes that the Senate has no power to suspend a member even for a single day.

The lawyers made the comments while addressing the Senate’s recent suspension of one of its members, Senator Ali Ndume, for allegedly bringing the House to disrepute, as well as the investigation and summoning of some of its members.

“In matters regarding some of the distinguished Senators, the court has made definitive judicial pronouncements. No legislative House in Nigeria, can suspend a member for one single day and we have a plethora of authorities on this,” Mr Falana stressed.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Femi Falana, has stated that no legislative House has the power to suspend a member even for a single day.
He made the comment while addressing the Senate’s recent suspension of one of its members, Senator Ali Ndume, for allegedly bringing the House to disrepute, as well as the investigation and summoning of some of its members.

The Senate spokesman was quoted to have said that although the 1999 constitution does not exactly state that the Senate has the power to suspend a member, they have the power to do so based on the internal House rules.

In reaction to this, the senior lawyer stated that: “The Senate labours under the very erroneous impression that it can do anything, whether allowed by law or not; particularly when it purports to exercising its oversight functions.

“Allegations of crime, certificate forgery, allegations regarding under-payment of Customs duties, are criminal offences that can only be investigated by the appropriate authorities such as the Police.”

According to him, “Section 88, which the Senate always relies on, begins with the phrase: “subject to the provisions of this constitution”, which means the powers of the Police, the powers of the Auditor General of the Federation, the powers of the Attorney General of the Federation, the powers of the President, take presidence over the powers of the Senate to carry out an investigation.
“The Senate with profound respect, the House of Representatives with Profound respect, cannot investigate allegations of crime. That is within the constitutional province of the Police.

“In matters regarding some of the distinguished Senators, the court has made definitive judicial pronouncements. Take for instance, no legislative House in Nigeria, can suspend a member for one single day and we have a plethora of authorities on this,” he stressed.

Recalling a similar situation that occurred in 2010, Mr Falana said: “As a member of the House of Representatives, Senator Dino Melaye and 10 others, out of frustration, submitted a petition to the EFCC, alleging criminal diversion of funds by the Dimeji Bankole-led leadership of the House.”

According to him, the Senators had claimed that the House had been terrorized and scandalized and despite the advice given by lawyers to allow the law take its course, as a petition had been sent to the appropriate agency of government, they still refused to take their hands off the case.

“Dino Melaye and 10 others were suspended indefinitely. I went to court for them and the court said: “Under your own rules, you cannot suspend a member for more than 14 days – Under what law did you suspend these 11 members of the House of Representatives for an indefinitely period of time?”

Mr Falana said subsequently, the court ordered an immediate reversal as well as the reinstatement of the senators.

He gave another instance involving the indefinite suspension of a member of the Bauchi House in 2012.

According to him, she was the only female and Christian in the House, consisting of 31 members and her suspension came as a result of a contribution she made, which the men considered as an ‘infra dignitatem’.

The case was however raised in court after a letter written to the House was ignored and the law was properly examined by the High Court as well as the Court of Appeal.

“Relevant constitutional provisions were now determined by the Court of Appeal and the Court of Appeal ruled that no legislative House has the power to suspend a member even for a single day,” he stated.

His colleague, Mike Ozekhome, however believes that the Senate has the right to summon anyone at anytime, regardless of their position.

Politics / Obasanjo Is The Father Of ‘do-or-die Politics’ In Nigeria – Fayose by lokobyforch(m): 4:02pm On Mar 04, 2017
Ekiti State governor and Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo lacked the moral ground to advise leaders against practising do-or-die politics, since he actually started the unwholesome practice in the country.

In an exclusive interview with Saturday Sun, Fayose, who was reacting to Obasanjo’s charge to leaders to shun do-or-die politics said the ex-president did not represent what he claimed to be, an exemplary elder statesman who loved democracy.

The governor also alleged that the ex-president was corrupt and indeed looted Nigerian treasury while in government. He challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Obasanjo’s assets before he became a civilian President and after he ruled for eight years. He queried whether all his assets were products of his salaries for eight years as President.

How would you react to Obasanjo’s call on political leaders to stop do-or-die politics in the country?

Unfortunately, Obasanjo does not appreciate the need for him to keep quiet. He does not have moral grounds to be saying all these things and that is why I come out every time to tell him that he does not represent what he claims to be.

I want to recall in 2003 and 2006, Obasanjo who removed me from office in Ekiti at all cost for reasons best known to him is the same Obasanjo who removed so many governors from office. It is the same Obasanjo who trampled on Nigeria’s constitution severally, because of his third term agenda.

Why should the same man now come out and say leaders should not engage in do- or -die politics? Where is the moral standing of Obasanjo? You know, sometimes when people interview him and he does his grandstanding, I laugh when I watch him on the television.

We recall the status of Obasanjo when they went to fetch him from the prison. This was a former President who would just wake up one day and say the governor of Anambra should be removed, because his boy wants to contest election in the state and he ignored an existing court order which later brought former governor Obi back to power and sacked Andy Uba after he had spent only 16 days as governor. That is do -or -die politics. What OBJ did to Rotimi Amaechi is in the annals of history too. He would be the one to insist who should be governor of this and that state.

Recently, he was saying his generation has failed Nigeria and I say his generation did not fail Nigeria, it was him who failed Nigeria, because he has the all time opportunity to right the wrongs, but for his selfishness, he did not recognize late MKO Abiola as winner of the June 1993 presidential election. He said Abiola was not the Messiah being expected. He is the same one that would attack the Awujale of Ijebu land, and same one that would attack Prof Wole Soyinka, he never recognized Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the leader of Yoruba nation and that is why today, even despite holding federal office severally as the President of this nation, there is no one that would recognize him as a leader in the South-West.

So, it is unfortunate, those listening to him are just are doing so in vain, because he doesn’t have the stature, character and the voice.

My opinion about him is that sometimes, people should take Obasanjo’s statements with a pinch of salt and see him as a man who just likes to run his mouth. He does not deserve the honour. Look at somebody talking about corruption, when Obasanjo just returned from the prison, they should go and bring his picture and his asset, what was his worth when he was in prison and what happened after eight years when he looted the treasury.

All those assets he now has in Obasanjo library and university and all that, are they products of his salary? So when they talk in this country we want to be able to listen and evaluate what they are talking about.

Obasanjo should be behind the bars. The money that he used to bribe members of the National Assembly during his botched third term agenda, where did the money come from? Was it from his holier than thou presidency, or what?

The man who served as President for eight years out of the PDP’s 16 years in the country is now telling us the party is not good.

The Yar’Adua we are talking about today who brought him? OBJ. Jonathan himself who brought him? OBJ. So, he is just running his mouth. We would continue to have problems if we listen to Obasanjo.

Most of the other eminent Nigerians who have served as President of this country; are they behaving like Obasanjo?

We learnt that you led a team of PDP governors to visit former President Goodluck Jonathan as part of efforts to resolve the factional crisis rocking the party, how did it go?

We were there at former President Jonathan’s instance. And he was making efforts to ensure that we explore all avenues to have peace in the party. As leaders, we must engage all parties in dialogue that would ensure peace. And there is nothing that we can do that is more than anything based on the truth that we told ourselves.

What advice do you now have for leaders over this issue of do-or-die politics?

You see the military, having ruled this country since the first coup, has shaped our democracy the way it is being practised now. They have so far militarized us. Even after we entered into democracy, the military continued to rule us. Obasanjo spent eight years and Buhari is spending another four years now. So, we are not yet free from militarization. The attitude would only change when we sit down to talk and jointly decide how we want to be governed and who would govern us. Right now, a cabal has hijacked Nigeria. People who believe that they can do whatever they feel like doing and if anybody wants to die, he can go and die. But they simply forget that it is only God that gives power. They continue to rule without reference to God. And any nation that abandons God, God will abandon them. So, for me, do-or-die politics has been with us for a long time now. To stop it, we must have an orientation that gives opportunity to the younger generation to determine their future. The need to restructure Nigeria is another issue that we cannot take for granted. We must restructure this country…and the only way forward for us now is to implement the recommendations of the last national conference.

Politics / We Don’t Need To Steal Your Ideas, Buhari’s Daughter Tells BBOG by lokobyforch(m): 6:30am On Oct 22, 2016
The Africa Support and Empowerment Initiative (AFRISEI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), says it does not need to steal ideas from the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement to contribute it’s own assistance to the Chibok community.

Hadiza Buhari-Bello, president of AFRISEI and President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, and Don Uche, its secretary, said this on Friday while reacting to a statement from the BBOG movement that it used the #BringBackOurGirls franchise at a fundraising event.

They said the more organisations contribute their assistance to the Chibok community and other devastated areas, the better for the country.

“[We have no reason] to steal anything from BBOG or use its name to achieve any advantage,” the statement by AFRISEI read.

“The Africa Support and Empowerment Initiative has its own defined objectives and it didn’t need to steal anybody’s ideas to operate in line with its own objectives.

“Given the size of the problem at hand, the more organisations we have assisting Chibok and other devastated communities, the better for the country.

“It is also committed to supporting the education of the less-privileged students, giving material support to the downtrodden; the internally displaced persons.

“AFRISEI is committed to educating the masses to discourage unhealthy practices such as child trafficking, child abuse, child labour and gender discrimination.”

They said there was no law stopping their organisation from assisting the Chibok girls.

The NGO further said that as a charity organisation, they help people in distress, including the Chibok girls and victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Politics / Fani-kayode Writes Open Letter To Buhari On The War Against Boko Haram by lokobyforch(m): 3:27pm On Dec 28, 2015
Mr. President, as one of your most loyal and faithful subjects who has nothing but the utmost respect for your person and your office I am constrained to write you this open letter. This is because there are a number of issues that I believe that it is important for you to clarify and to come clean on. I say this because some of your assertions of late are at best contradictory and at worst patently dishonest.

Whichever side of the political divide we are on I believe that we can all agree on one thing: that the prosecution of the war against terror is not something that any of us should play politics with. This is especially so given the fact that human lives are at stake and the very existence of our nation is under threat. Like much of the rest of the world our country is going through hell at the hands of the jihadists and Islamist terrorists.

There is no gainsaying that we must all come to terms with the fact that the Islamic State in the Levant (ISIL), Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Al Shabab, Boko Haram, Hamas and another group that the internationally-respected Global Terror Index has described as the ”Fulani militants” (aka Fulani herdsmen) are nothing but bloodthirsty murderers and the lowest form of life. They are indeed the scum of the earth, the troublers of humanity and the vermin of hell. It is with this in mind that I urge you to take the war against terror far more seriously than you are doing and plead with you to stop passing the buck.

Your penchant for blaming your failings in this regard on the previous administration is simply nauseating and it does not serve you well. You continuously contradict yourself when it comes to this matter and frankly such flip flops are unworthy of the office that you presently occupy. We your subjects look up to you for consistency, strength, unequivocal commitment, a firm resolve and the ”leadership from the front” that you promised during your presidential campaign in this war. We do not want and neither do we need doublespeak, lame excuses and buck passing.

Permit me to point out a few examples of your contradictory assertions and your buck passing in this short intervention. Initially you claimed that your predecessor in office President Goodluck Jonathan never bought any arms and that instead he squandered and stole all the money that was appropriated for the procurement of arms.

Yet when the British Minister of Defense visited you in the Presidential Villa the other day the story changed. You did a U-turn and gleefully told him and the wider world that President Jonathan bought arms with raw cash.

One wonders which story you shall come up with next and which one you will conjure up in the future. Kindly tell us what the position is: is it that Jonathan did not buy arms at all and stole all the money or is it that he used cash to buy arms? You cannot have it both ways. It is either one or the other.

Quite apart from your glaring doublespeak on this matter there was another issue which you ought to have raised with your highly esteemed and respected British guest. You forgot to tell him that his was one of the countries that not only refused to sell weapons to us during the course of this bitter conflict but that also helped to impose and enforce the international arms embargo on our country even though we are at war.

This resulted in the unnecessary death of thousands of our people because we found it difficult to procure the weapons to protect them. Your guest’s country insisted on towing the American line and doing this to us even though we were fighting a war against a relentless, well-motivated, well-funded and well-armed fighting force that Global Terror Index has described as the ”deadliest terrorist organization in the world”. One is forced to ask: with friends like this who needs enemies?

Given the fact that the embargo was in place one wonders how we were supposed to procure arms unless we did so with raw cash on the black market. The alternative was to buy none at all, to do nothing and to allow Boko Haram to take Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Lagos. Perhaps that is precisely what your western friends and allies wanted but thankfully it never came to pass.

Despite the challenges and constraints President Jonathan faced, instead of losing any more ground, he rose to the occasion and retook no less than 22 local government areas and virtually pushed Boko Haram out of Nigeria. The only place that they occupied by the time the election took place was Sambisa forest.

Jonathan achieved all this with those arms that he bought with raw cash. This is apparently what you are now complaining about. Permit me to remind you that it is those same arms that Jonathan bought with raw cash that your army is still using till today. Yet sadly since you were sworn in as President seven months ago you have lost some of those same local government areas that were earlier recovered and they are now back in the hands of the terrorists.

Despite this you keep telling the international community and the Nigerian people that we are ”making progress” in the war against terror. As a matter of fact you went as far as to say that we had ”won the war” against Boko Haram and your Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, echoed that grotesque mendacity and reiterated that sentiment by adding the words ”technically won” (whatever that may mean) to the equation.

Sadly, two days later, on Christmas day, in what can only be described as an eloquent response from the terrorists, scores of innocent civilians were killed by Boko Haram in Borno state and a whole community was burnt to the ground. Again on Sunday 27th of December Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, came under heavy attack from the terrorists. So much for having ”won the war against Boko Haram”, whether ”technically” or otherwise.

Instead of conceding that you had told the Nigerian people a pernicious lie, curiously the next thing that you did was to tell them that you would ”persuade Boko Haram to drop their arms”. One is compelled to ask: why would you have to persuade them to drop their arms if you had already defeated them and won the war against them?

In any case this would be the first time in the history of modern warfare that a sitting President has sought to destroy and defeat a vicious and relentless terrorist organization and win the war against terror simply with the awesome and devastating weapon of persuasion. Perhaps you should recommend that same tactic to the Americans and the rest of the international community as an effective and credible weapon to adopt in their war against ISIL, Al Qaeda, Al Shabab, Hamas and all the other jihadist groups that plague the world.

Whilst you are at it perhaps you could also persuade Boko Haram to free the Chibok girls. It is disturbing to note that despite all your campaign promises and assurances that once you are elected President the girls would be rescued or returned, nothing has been done or heard about any of them ever since you were sworn in. Worst still the Bring Back Our Girls Group, which was essentially an appendage of your election organization, together with its distinguished leaders and conveners, appear to have gone very quiet. I guess they are busy trying to persuade Boko Haram to drop their arms too.

The truth is that it is time for you to free yourself from your monumental delusions and to get real. Sadly you appear to be detached from reality. Instead of fighting the war against terror you are making it worse by slaughtering one thousand Shia Muslims in Zaria on December 12th, locking up their leader Sheik Ibrahim El Zakzaky and opening yet another war front in our country. The last thing that we need is for Hezbollah or the Iranian Republican Guard to rise to the occasion, take up the challenge, jump into the fray and decide to protect and avenge their Shia Muslim brothers and sisters in northern Nigeria.

Yet despite the reprehensible and indefensible actions of your military commanders in Zaria you have refused to show any remorse for what was undoubtedly a war crime against fellow Nigerians and you have not prosecuted the officers and military personnel that were involved in the butchery. Instead the homes of the victims and those that share their Shia faith have been burnt to the ground in Zaria and their graves and burial sites have been dug up and desecrated.

Instead of fighting Boko Haram you are fighting and killing your own people. Worse still you have refused to defend our country. I say this because a few days ago the Cameroonian military invaded our country, violated our territorial integrity and savagely murdered over 70 innocent Nigerians in their village before burning it down.

Your government refused to acknowledge that this event even took place, despite the media reports. You did not console or express condolences to the families of the victims or retaliate against the Cameroonians.

You did not even warn them or demand an apology or reparations from them. This is heartless and shameful. It could not have happened under Jonathan, Obasanjo, Babangida, Shagari, Abacha, Abubakar, Shonekan, Mohammed, Balewa or indeed any other former Nigerian President or Head of State. If any of them had been in power and the Cameroonians cultivated the effrontery to do such a thing there would have been consequences.

Yet you did nothing to avenge this affront or to defend our honor. What happened to the gallant and brave General Buhari that courageously led our troops into victory in Chad in the early 1980’s? What happened to the honest and forthright man that we all admired and looked up to because of his military exploits in Chad? What happened to the war hero that gave the Chadians a ”bloody nose” for daring to attack a Nigerian village and that almost took Ndjamena, the Chadian capital? What happened to the man that proved to the Libyans and their Chadian proxies that Nigerians knew how to fight? It appears that you have changed and that you are no longer the man that you used to be.

Instead of being honest with our people you have insisted on selling them a dummy and telling them a lie. You refuse to tell the world that our military is terribly demoralized, our soldiers are suffering heavy casualties and are not being paid their salaries regularly and, worse of all, that you have failed to procure a single bullet or weapon for them to use in the last seven months since you came to power.

Instead of deploying all the power of the state against Boko Haram you have spent all your energy and resources trying to teach the former National Security Advisor, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, and all your other perceived enemies the lesson of their lives by misrepresenting them before the world, subjecting them to state-sponsored tyranny and the most insidious form of persecution, violating their human rights and lying to the world that they stole and shared money that was meant for the purchase of arms.

You have also misled and misinformed the Nigerian people about the rules and conventions that are applied when it comes to the administration of security funds and about the fact that it is the National Assembly alone that has the right to probe the use of such funds as part of their oversight functions. To cap it all you have claimed you did not receive any benefit from the NSA ‘s office whilst Jonathan was in power. This is an assertion which we all know is, at best, questionable.

You must be mindful of the fact that God hates liars and He despises those that abuse power. You must remember that the more you scorn God’s counsel and mock His admonitions the more your errors will be made manifest and the more your people will suffer.

You must understand that any leader or government that is motivated by bitterness, fear, hate, vengeance and malice will eventually hit the rocks and crash like a pack of cards. You must appreciate the fact that God is watching and that He sees and knows all.

May the Lord have mercy on you and may He forgive you for your many sins and wicked ways. God bless Nigeria.

Politics / How El Rufai’s Media Aide Used Corrupt Website To Subvert Justice Against Saraki by lokobyforch(m): 11:26am On Oct 21, 2015
by Kuddi Haastrup

‘’Pray there ain’t any more surprises’’ was a classic back in the days from the series named ‘’Make Me a Stone’’ which ranks as one my favourite movie series of all time with characters like Malcolm, Kaylee and Simon.

It was indeed a suspense filled movie; everyone had a hidden talent none knew about and the complicated discoveries within the chapters were fairly exhausting to the point that one would pray that there were no more surprises.

The drama that ensued today at the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja to determine the legal validity of the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s false declaration probe against the Senate President – from his first gubernatorial bid in 2003 – just brought to light the memories of that wonderful piece of comic drama that I l could not resist watching while I was growing up.

For once, I was seated so close to the pulpit of justice in readiness for the proceedings of day. We were expecting the Chief Justice to walk in and begin reading the valuable points submitted by the plaintiff and representatives of the federal government in order to ensure a fair hearing that would eventually lead to the final judgement. Alas, my naive colleagues and I, who were anxiously expecting justice to be served were quickly reminded that they were on a goose chase engulfed in phantom fantasies as the case was flagrantly adjourned indefinitely without any official reason for such actions.

Obviously, I was not surprised at the turn of events; I was only moved by the uneasiness of the court clerk as he walked in to announce that there would be no sitting on that day. He was restive, and one could tell that he was seconds away from purging on the spot. At this point, my angst was relived; I could recall the insiders intel from a credible source intimating me of Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s through his media aide – Muyiwa Adekeye had pledged to compensate the judges should they succeed in ruling against Senator Bukola Saraki or delay the long arm of justice for as long as possible in order to allow the Code of Conduct Tribunal enjoy a fun-filled day at the detriment to the sacredness of the rule of law.

By their calculation, they are expected to provide evidences and testify against Bukola Saraki just to nail him at all cost for not bowing to the wishes of the political godfathers within his party.

However, the barrage of media tantrums being peddled, and coordinated by Yele Sowore (Founder, Saharareporters) and Mr. Muyiwa Adekeye in my opinion remain petty, even though Saharareporters has been used as the anchorage platform for their hatchet job; they scored a new low today with their hurriedly assembled article which was published a few hours to the Court of Appeal ruling to pre-empt the outcome of the ruling to douse any suspicion of their collaborations with the bribed judges and the eventual outcome of the ruling.

The ruling was clear enough; the judgement was to be read in favour of Senator Bukola Saraki but they are conmen and would not give up until they achieve their selfish aims. Little wonder, the chief counsel to the federal government Mr Rotimi Jacobs was conspicuously missing at the court having been pre-informed that the court would not rule today. His new romance with the Chairman of the Code Of Conduct Tribunal Danladi Umar- who was a former Personal Assistant to Mallam El-Rufai explains the re-ignition of mischief maker running a ring to achieve the same purpose.

The way and manner Senator Bukola Saraki has carried on with his duties as the leader of the 8th Assembly without according his detractors the much craved attention will only aggravate them until they burn out completely.

Unknown to them, the more the godfathers stay awoken to plot Saraki’s fall, the more successes he achieves, thus increasing his popularity.

So after this, are you still praying that there ain’t any more surprises? The times ahead promise to be drama filled. The dangerous trend, however, is the use of the law by the powerful forces as cloak to evade justice. Is this is the sort of politically motivated justice that Nigerians were promised? Time will tell.

Politics / Facebook Introduces ‘dislike Button’ by lokobyforch(m): 8:41pm On Oct 09, 2015
Facebook has on Friday responded to solve its users’ call for a “dislike” button, in the form of six new emoji.

Speaking about the latest development from the social media giant, Mark Zuckerberg, Chief Executive Officer, Facebook, noted that for a long time that the feature wouldn’t be integrated in the “dislike” button that many people had asked for.

Zuckerberg hinted last month that social media site was planning to expand the ‘Like button’, thereby creating more ways for people to express their feelings.

He disclosed that the new development is going be in form of emojis that represent ‘Haha, Yay, Love, Wow, Sad and Angry.’

According to the CEO, similar to the Like button, the reactions will appear on any post in the news feed on mobile or desktop. The number of reactions that any post has received will sit underneath the post and users will be able to see who reacted and how.

Thus, to test run the latest development, the site will start rolling out the feature in Spain and Ireland and
once the buttons are rolled out to a users’ feed, there’ll be no way of turning them off.

How does it work? match is the most widely-used online dating site in the world and has nearly 1.8 million subscribers. It works in the most traditional way: Simply create a profile, check out your potential matches, send them a few messages and then arrange to meet for a date. The love-gods at match also arrange singles events and provide online dating advice.

The site also hosts regular events which are a fun, relaxed way to meet people.

4. DatingDirect.com

How does it work? There are no gimmicks or USPs with DatingDirect. In fact, it's fairly similar to our old friends Match, mentioned above. It also has a handy instant messenger service which makes chatting to your matches easy and breezy.

5. PARSHIP.co.uk

A bit like eHarmony, PARSHIP uses a patented test, this time called The PARSHIP principle®, which analyzes 32 personality traits and is based on an algorithm of 136 rules. It sounds complicated, but that's not for you to worry about. Just sign up, do the test and get chatting to all those love-compatible people out there.

6. Muddymatches

Set up by two friends, Emma and Lucy, in 2006, Muddy Matches is aimed at 'muddies', who by the girls' definition is 'any person who loves the countryside and is not afraid of a bit of mud'. The criteria is pretty relaxed and the site uses a Muddy-Townie ratio to match potential dates accordingly. 7. PlentyofFish

To become a member, applicants are required to be voted in by existing members of the opposite sex. Members rate new applicants over a 48-hour period based on whether or not they find the applicant ‘beautiful’. It sounds harsh, but the site claims that by admitting people based on their looks they're removing the first hurdle of dating, saying that because everyone on the site is a fitty, members can concentrate on getting to know people's character and personalities. Beautiful People also promises access to exclusive parties and top guest lists around the globe. Now for that brutal 48-hour wait...

Politics / SERAP Condemns Proposed Immunity For Lawmakers by lokobyforch(m): 3:12pm On Oct 08, 2015
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) yesterday described as a setback for transparency, plans by the National Assembly to give lawmakers immunity from prosecution. SERAP was reacting to the proposed constitution amendment triggered by the legislators in the buildup of the allegations against Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

In a statement signed by the group’s executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, the lawmakers were accused of trying to shield Saraki and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara from prosecution over alleged corruption.

He said the proposed immunity for lawmakers tantamount to breaking the law, demanding an end to the process.

Describing the move as a clear breach of public trust and a form of political corruption, he challenged civil society groups to vigorously challenge the lawmakers.

“It is a huge setback for transparency, accountability and the rule of law that the same privileged and powerful leaders of parliament who regularly make laws that consign powerless Nigerians to prison for even trivial offences, want to establish elite immunity to protect themselves from the consequences of corruption and money laundering: “That is the Nigerian justice system in a nutshell. This is called breaking the law.

“This initiative by the leaders of the National Assembly is coming at a time countries like Guatemala has voted unanimously to strip their president of immunity from prosecution for corruption. “The message the leadership of the National Assembly is sending to us is clear: in Nigeria, powerful and influential actors must not be and are not subject to the rule of law. It’s simply not proper for lawmakers to be the chief advocates of immunity for corruption,” stated Mumuni.

Continuing, the SERAP boss said: “This is an unacceptable proposition as it gives the impression that both the Senate President and the Speaker of the House and others are above the law.

“If the leaders of the National Assembly should have their way, this will shield the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives from any legal accountability and rob millions of Nigerians of their rights to accountable government.

“Public officials who are genuinely committed to the well-being of the state and its people, and to the establishment of an effective and functioning system of administration of justice, should have absolutely nothing to fear.

“We will work with other members of the civil society to vigorously challenge this gift of immunity against corruption and blatant breach of public trust by the National Assembly.”

Crime / Vigilante Shoots Himself While Attempting To Scare Off Hoodlums by lokobyforch(m): 12:24pm On Oct 08, 2015
Tragedy struck at Osholanke Street in Ebute-Metta area of Lagos as a member of a vigilante team identified as Ogundare Ekundayo, shot himself dead while attempting to scare away hoodlums.

Ekundayo on the fateful day while closing from duty reportedly shot into the air to scare away thieves as it was the norms of the community watch. On firing the shot, the bullet reportedly hit an object and bounced back.

A colleague of the deceased, Fatai Raimi on hearing the shot, reportedly ran to the spot and discovered the lifeless body of Ekundayo.

The incident was however reported at the Denton Police Division while Ekundayo’s corpse was deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary.

In trying to unravel the mistry surrounding Ekunday’s death, Raimi was arrested, though he insisted that he was innocent.

He said, “I have known the deceased for some time now. He was my boss; he recruited me into the vigilance group, but we were employed by the community.

“There were three of us guarding Osholanke Street, but the third person did not come that day because he was ill.

“My master and I were together, but when it was getting to 4am, he went down the street alone.

“I suddenly heard a shot from his gun and I rushed there only to see he had mistakenly shot himself dead.”

An autopsy could not be conducted on the victim as the family insisted on burial. This made the police to release the body to the family while the prime suspect was transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation.
