PoliticsGroup Says Boko Haram Latest Video Authentic, Commends Army’s Onslaught by lolaxavier(op): 7:07am On Mar 28, 2016
A group, the Coalition for Women Advancement in Africa (COWAA) has described the new video by Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau where he announced what could best be described as a surrender as a major breakthrough by the military in the war against the Boko Haram insurgency.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Executive Vice President of the group, Mrs Jummai Samuel Pukat said the group has recruited the services of forensic experts and can confirm the authenticity of the video by Shekau.

She, however, called on the Nigeria army to sustain its onslaught against the few remaining terrorists who may want to continue with their nefarious crimes.

She said, “We have authoritatively confirmed the video after subjecting it to scientific scrutiny and wish to say it is authentic and represents the reaction of the group to the ongoing merciless onslaught being carried out by the Nigerian Army. As mothers of the nation we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to see to an amnesty for those who are ready to lay down their arms and encourage the Nigerian Army to flush out every criminal element or factional group that fails to utilize the opportunity of the declaration of surrender by Abubakar Shekau who has been known over the years as the leader of the group.

“In the same spirit of a new Nigeria devoid of the killings, kidnappings and terrorism that Nigerians were elated to view the video of their longest nightmare in the person of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau almost grovelling as he declared that ‘I am finished’.

“Even without uttering those welcome words about being finished, which we believe equally applies to the terror group with which he brought this country down to its knees, the body language of the Shekau we saw in the video was that of a man who together with his minion are receiving the drubbing of their lives from the Nigerian Army ably supported by the Air Force.

” The video as proclaimed by Shekau should be seen as a major breakthrough in the nation’s war against terrorism. In that video, we see and heard a Shekau who finally had the sense to admit that the end is nigh; we see a Shekau who has become gaunt ostensibly because the Army has successfully disrupted the supply routes for his terror group’s vital supplies; we see a Shekau who for the first time lost the ability to harangue the Nigerian state as he was not able to hop from one feet to the other, we see a Shekau whom the Nigerian Army has deprived of the succour and support of his devilish Amirs (commanders), who fell to the superior will of our gallant troops in quick succession; we see a Shekau that has been abandoned by the abominable Daesh (Islamic State) to which he pledged allegiance; we see a Shekau who is facing internal rebellion within the band of bloodthirsty imps that he has gathered, we see a Shekau at the end of his tethers and with the full knowledge that he deserves whatever he has coming for him; we see a Shekau that is in need of a finishing off; and we see a Shekau who must not get the mercy that he never showed his thousands victims.”

The group commended the Army for sustaining the onslaught on the terrorists in a manner that the degraded Boko Haram to the point where Shekau was flushed out to give proof of life to his own so called followers.

“However, our wish is to reiterate our resolve for lasting peace. We cannot get lasting peace by allowing Shekau and his remaining Amirs the luxury of being able to re-group and restore their ability to take on the Nigerian Army. The decision makers in the Army should let the federal government know what is needed to help these abominations called terrorists keep their appointments with their makers,” she said.

She said the Army must not relent, but should get more ammunitions and artillery to further decimate the ranks of terrorists. She said While Shekau as the head of Boko Haram deserves whatever he gets, amnesty should be handed over to all those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the terror group’s criminality as a way of further decimating whatever structure the criminal thought would survive him.

“we reiterate our position that Amnesty should be granted to those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the movement while those who wish to remain on are treated as mere criminals by the Nigerian Army.”

She said the immediate rescue of the 16 women abducted by Boko Haram should be commended by all Nigerians, stressing that the timely rescue should be a reminder that anyone abducted shall be found and set free.

PoliticsTinubu Blasts Kachikwu Over Comment On Lingering Fuel Scarcity by lolaxavier(op): 8:31am On Mar 27, 2016
The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday berated the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu over his recent comment on the lingering fuel scarcity in the country.

Kachikwu while referring to the lingering fuel crises in the country, had recently claimed that he “was not a magician,” to turn things around almost immediately.

But reacting to Kachikwu’s comment, Tinubu in a ten paragraph statement titled: “KACHIKWU NEEDS TO KNOW THAT RESPECT AND GOOD PERFORMANCE WILL DO WHAT MAGIC CANNOT,”,described the Minister’s comment as unbecoming of a “member of this progressive government.”

The former Governor of Lagos State who wondered why a public servant would talk down on those he was meant to serve, said, “Kachikwu’s flippancy was out-of-line. He was basically telling Nigerians that they should be lucky that they are getting the inadequate supply they now suffer and that they should just be quiet and endure the shortage for several weeks more”.

The statement reads, “I am confident that President Buhari and this government can resolve the issues that press us. From establishing full security and safety to staking a claim to true economic prosperity and fairness, this government shall salvage our national pride and purpose”.

“The art of governance is difficult and complex, especially during trying times. The steep reduction in global oil prices from over 100 dollars per barrel to roughly 40 presents a hard challenge. We can no longer afford past practices. Nigeria now requires creative reform, materially changing the substance of national economic policy as well as the objectives of that policy and how the policy is presented to the people. Therein lies the essence of progressive democratic governance.

“The Buhari administration represents the last best hope we have to install such governance in Nigeria and avert the catastrophe that would have befallen us had the prior government remained in place. Had the nation continued with the spendthrift corruption and vagabond economic policies of that administration, we would have soon experienced such a collision with the harsh consequences of that government’s malign ways that our very institutions of government may have been distorted beyond fixture and repair.

“In this effort, there may be no economic matter more difficult to unravel and more sensitive to the purse of the average person than the current fuel scarcity. Even here I am confident of progress because I know the commitment of the president to resolving this matter. I make no attempt to hide it. I am an avid and partisan supporter of this government and of the progressive policies of the party, the APC, upon which this government is based.

“With that I do reserve the right and the duty as a Nigerian to voice my opinion when I believe a member of this government has strayed from the progressive calling required of this administration. I do this because my greater devotion and love are for this nation and its people. Party and politics fall secondary.

“Much public ire has been drawn to the statement made by minister of state Ibe kachikwu that he was not trained as a magician and that basically Nigerians should count themselves fortunate that the NNPC under his stewardship has been able to bring in the amount of petrol fuel it is currently doing.

“Perhaps the statement by Kachikwu was made in a moment of unguarded frustration or was an awkward attempt at a joke. Whatever the motive, it was untimely and off-putting. The remark did not sit well with the Nigerian people; they were as right to feel insulted as the Minister was wrong to have said such a thing. The fuel shortage is severely biting for the average person. They are forced to remain in lines far too long, for too much time, to pay too much money for too little fuel. This is no joking matter. Livelihoods and people’s welfare are at stake. With so much on the line, Kachikwu’s flippancy was out-of-line. He was basically telling Nigerians that they should be lucky that they are getting the inadequate supply they now suffer and that they should just be quiet and endure the shortage for several weeks more.

“Kachikwu’s intervention was unhelpful. It panicked and disappointed the public as to the duration of the crisis. It insulted the people by its tonality. He spoke with the imperious nature of Kachikwu member of the elitist government the people voted out last year and not the progressive one they voted in. Kachikwu must be reminded that he was not coerced to take this job. He accepted the job and its responsibilities knowingly. He also must remember that he does not own NNPC. This also is not a private company that owes nothing to the public except the duty of fair dealing. He is a public servant. The seat he sits upon is owned by Nigerians not by him. The company he runs is owned by Nigerians not by him. They are his boss. He is not theirs. Power is vested in the people. He is a mere custodian or agent of their will. In talking to us in such a manner, he committed an act of insubordination. If he had talked so cavalierly to his boss in the private sector, he would have been reprimanded or worse. If wise, the man should refrain from such interjections in the future.

“As his ultimate bosses, the people have a right to demand the requisite performance and respect from him. He should apologize for treating them so lightly in this instance. His portfolio being a strategically important one, he needs to reestablish the correct relationship with the public. They no longer feel he is working for their optimal benefit as their servant. Instead, he seems to be standing above them, telling them to take it or leave it. For his policies and stint in office to be successful and a help to this government, he must have the support and belief of the people at this tough time. He must talk to them in a way that they believe he seeks their best interest and understands the hardship weighing upon them. He must ask them to work with him and perhaps to endure a bit longer but with the knowledge that he is working to resolve this matter as fast as he can and as permanently as possible. That he is dedicated to the position that once these current lines are gone that never again shall they reappear as long as he has any influence in the matter. To do this, requires no magic nor training in that strange craft. It requires empathy, compassion and the willpower to forge a better Nigeria. These must be the common trademarks of those serving in a progressive government for these attributes are integral parts of the spirit and ideals upon which the APC was founded. Upon such notions was this administration voted into office by the Nigerian people in the operation of their sovereign will to seek a national leadership that would pursue their interests to the utmost and give them every fair chance to live in a better Nigeria.

“Even though times are hard we must all realize that they would be even harder and much darker would be the immediate horizon had we allowed the venal, kleptocracy of the PDP to continue to lord over the land solely for their selfish benefit and not for the common good.

“ I am confident that President Buhari and this government can resolve the issues that press us. From establishing full security and safety to staking a claim to true economic prosperity and fairness, this government shall salvage our national pride and purpose.
“Let all of us, in and out, of government never forget this. If we adhere to this remembrance, we shall see that magic will not be needed to bring the progress we seek.

No fewer than five Agatu indegens, taking refuge at Ugbokpo, Apa LGA of Benue State have been confirmed dead.

Scores of other indigenes in the camp, ranging from children, women and elders are also said to be suffering from one ailment or another.

Addressing Journalists at the IDPs camp, Ugbokpo on Wednesday, the Chairman of the camp committee, Rev. Fr. John Attah said the dead, mostly adults died from various ailments which could be as a result of fatigue or emotional instability while others complained of malaria fever.

“Some of them spent over a week inside the forest before they could trace their way into this place. So, many of them died of fatigue and the children died of malnutrition”, Fr. Attah added.

Moved by the rate of death and the continuous plights of the Internally Displaced Persons, wife of former President of the Senate, Barr. Mrs. Kate Mark has deployed a team of professional medical practitioners to the camp to offer free medical services to children, nursing mothers and pregnant women.

The team which arrived the Ugbokpo IDPs camp on Wednesday has treated over 400 cases of malaria, cholera, jaundice, malnutrition, typhoid and other ailments related to pregnancy.

The medical practitioners also went to the camp with fully automated laboratory equipments for on the spot diagnosis of ailments at window stage as well as offering drugs and precautionary kits to the camp officials against further outbreak of common sicknesses.

Barr. Mrs. Kate Mark also used the forum to call on the state and federal governments to as a matter of urgency put the insurgencies to permanent rest, to enable the victims return home for the new farming season which had already begun.

Represented by Hon. Mrs. Ada Mark Ogbole and Chief Adakole Elijah, Mrs. Mark bemoaned the sharp practices of some individuals and government officials in diverting some relief materials meant for the Agatu IDPs for any other purpose.

While charging the camp officials to be more concerned about the health and welfare of the IDPs, Mrs. Mark also called on the government and kind hearted individuals to come to the aide of the victims to forestall further outbreak of ailments and its attendant death.

Senator Mark’s wife also advised the medical sub committee at the camp to always refer complicated medical issues to appropriate specialist hospitals to avoid what had happened in the past.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Martin Abeshi, has lambasted the former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, for claiming that the Service lacked the capacity to produce international passport booklets and the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card, CERPAC.

The documents are being produced for the NIS by two private firms.

Moro had told the House of Representatives Committee on Interior last Wednesday that the agreements the immigration service had with different private companies were not judiciously implemented.

But the CG, at a news conference on Friday in Abuja, said the NIS had well trained personnel who could produce the international passport booklets and the CERPAC cards.

He said, “Moro is entitled to his opinion. If he says we don’t have capacity to produce international passport, what did he do about that in the period he stayed as minister of interior?

“I don’t believe we don’t have the capacity to produce passports.”

Abeshi, however, announced NIS’s annual conference and stakeholders’ interactive forum between April 6 and April 8, 2016 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, would speak on “Immigration Practices and Visa Reforms: The UK Experience”, while the Head of European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Michel Arrion, would present a paper on “The Global Migrant Crisis and the African Perspective.”

Others are Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, who would present a paper on “Migration Management through Legislation” and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Olisa Agbakoba, whose paper would be on “Review of the Immigration Act, 2015.

Dutch icon Johan Cruyff has died at the age of 68, it has been announced.

The former Dutch international, an icon at both Barcelona and Ajax, has passed away following a battle with cancer.

A statement on his official website confirmed his passing.

"On March 24 2016 Johan Cruyff (68) died peacefully in Barcelona, surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle with cancer."

"It’s with great sadness that we ask you to respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."

Cruyff was told of his illness in October.

In February the three-time Ballon d'Or winner declared himself positive of winning his battle with the disease, saying: "Right now, I have the feeling that I am 2-0 up in the first half of a match that has not finished yet."

As a manager, Cruyff led Barcelona to four successive La Liga titles (1991-94) while also winning the 1992 European Cup at Wembley with a 1-0 win over Sampdoria. His philosophy continues to run through both the Catalan and Amsterdam clubs to this day, their successes seen in many quarters as his legacy.

But it was as a player where Cruyff was perhaps most revered.

Star turn: Cruyff inspired at the 1974 World Cup

He made his debut for Ajax as a 17-year-old spending nine years with the club, winning six Eredivisie titles and three successive European Cups before joining Barcelona in 1973.

The following year he proved the star turn at the 1974 World Cup, at the height of his playing career, leading the Oranje to the final in West Germany.

In the final he won Holland an early penalty, converted by Johan Neeskens, but the Dutch fell short, losing 2-1 to the hosts.

...And later joined Feyenoord to win their first league title in a decade

He won player of the tournament after shining throughout. In all, he won 48 caps for his country, scoring 33 goals.

A prolific goalscorer, and a great creator for others, Cruyff even had his own trick, famous to this day. The 'Cruyff turn' was perfected by its inventor, who finished his playing career in Holland with a second spell at Ajax before spending his final campaign at the Amsterdam club's most bitter rivals, Feyenoord - whom he led to their first title for a decade.

Cruyff underwent double heart bypass surgery in 1991 and, having been a smoker, immediately gave up after the operation. He took to sucking lollipops when in the dugout.

ABUJA – Against the background of the violence that apparently characterized the rerun elections in Rivers State, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has lashed out at president Mohammadu Buhari, saying that God is angry with him.

According to the governor, the president superintended over elections that were remarkably bloody. The governor who spoke with Journalists in Abuja on Tuesday chronicled the lists of elections held under the present government, stating that power belonged to the God and and should not be abused by any individual no matter how highly placed.

He said: “I am telling you the truth. Power doesn’t come from anywhere. God rules in the affairs of men. Oppressing, bringing and cutting people down, taking their blood, God is angry. The way this government is taking people down, God is angry. God isn’t happy. Go to Rivers, they kill people. “Go to Akwa Ibom, they kill people. Go to Bayelsa, they kill people, incarcerate innocent people. God is angry with Buhari. You can’t continue to take the blood of the innocent. Look at my predictions for the year 2016 for Nigeria, everything has come to pass. This is a different ball game. He that will take me, he that will go against me must first of all defeat God. If these were the kind of violence that greeted Buhari’s election would he ever be president?”

Speaking further on the likely impact of the just concluded expanded retreat of the National Economic Council, NEC in Abuja, Governor Fayose stated that the present economic situations in the country indicated that president Buhari lacked technical competence to solve the problem of the country.
Even though he specifically praised the idea, the governor wondered if it would not the just a talk shop.

PoliticsHow Oronsaye Diverted N850m Committee Fund For Personal Use – EFCC by lolaxavier(op): 5:12pm On Mar 15, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s witness, Ngunan Khawagh, on Tuesday told an FCT Federal High Court how the former Head of Service, Stephen Orosanye diverted N800m cash of the Presidential Committee on the Financial Action Task Force for his personal use.

Khawagh alleged that Orasanye defrauded the Presidential Committee of Financial Task Force to the tune of N850m.

She claimed that the defendant opened an account with the Access Bank for which he used in siphoning the money which members were not aware of.

“The team wrote a letter to Access Bank requesting for the account opening package and also requested for the statement of account and other information that will aide the commission in its investigation.”

“The bank responded by fashioning the commission with the account opening form signature spacemen form, means of identification and instrument used in opening the account.”

EFCC told the court that it discovered that the account was opened in 2012 with Orosanye requesting for it which he signed as the Chairman of the committee.

“It was also discovered that the Access Bank account was not known to members of the committee and the Central Bank of Nigeria had funded the account through three transfers. The defendant also transferred N45m,” the witness continued.

“The first transfer from CBN was N50m on October 2012, second transfer N90m in May 2013 and the defendant paid 9m five times the same day.”

The anti-graft agency said the first N50m deposit was withdrawn by cheque and given to various people by Orosanye.

“The second N90m was paid through a fixed deposit. N100m was paid into a fixed deposit also.

Christianity EtcMalawi President Attacks Prophet TB Joshua, Calls Him Fake by lolaxavier(op): 8:19am On Mar 14, 2016
Malawian President Peter Mutharika on Sunday attacked Prophet TB Joshua over an alleged prophecy that he would die before April 1.

Speaking on state TV at a rally in his capital Lilongwe, the president said:

“I’m told there is a man in Nigeria called Joshua and he is saying that Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and Peter Mutharika will die before April 1. Let me tell you, Joshua… you will fail. What you did in 2012 will not happen again this year,”
In 2012, Joshua reportedly predicted the death of a president of an unnamed southern African country. Mutharika’s brother, Bingu, who was president at the time, did die within the predicted timeframe, giving the prophesy strong currency in Malawi.

In January, Joshua reportedly gave a televised prophecy, telling his congregation to pray for the leaders in southern Africa, saying: “End of February to April this year, peculiar months for Southern Africa.”

Mutharika questioned Joshua’s credentials as a prophet, pointing to the collapse of a guesthouse in his sprawling Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos in September 2014, which left 116 people dead, mostly South Africans.

“Why did he not foretell this tragedy? This all shows that he is a liar. He just wants to raise money.”
Mutharika is in his mid 70s and has pledged to be around in 2019 for the next presidential elections, and in also 2024, when — if re-elected — he will wrap up his last term .Mutharika came to power in 2014 after defeating Joyce Banda.

Banda, who succeeded Bingu Mutharika, made several visits to the Nigerian headquarters of Joshua’s church and once described the evangelist as her “spiritual father”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again expressed his displeasure at how former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) handled funds meant for purchase of arms under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Buhari in an interview with Al Jazeera television aired on Sunday and monitored by DAILY POST, said the “sharing” of the funds was responsible for the boldness at which the Boko Haram sect operated in recent years.

He was reacting to a question by the interviewer on controversial use of security votes by office holders.

“Why not scrap these votes which end up in opaque destinations?” the interviewer quipped.

Responding, Buhari said while security votes of his office, his deputy’s, and a number of officials in the executive arm had been greatly reduced, plans were on to extend such to states.

“We are trying to recover such used for personal purposes.

“That is why we are prosecuting those who shared monies meant to procure hardware and software for the military.

“It is easy to say we have not recorded a high-profile conviction but there must be court processes.

“However, with the revelations coming out from the arms probe, you can imagine where Dasuki will end up.”

It would be recalled that a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday struck out Dasuki’s application seeking to stop his trial pending his release from detention.

Justice Peter Affen held that the former NSA was unable to prove that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was holding him after he was granted bail.

Affen maintained EFCC did not in any way acted contrary to court order because it did not have Dasuki in its custody.
