PoliticsReps Uncover 169 Ghost Companies On N1trn Rail Contracts by lolaxavier(op): 6:39am On Feb 04, 2016
ABUJA—The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Failed Rail Contracts, yesterday, unearthed 169 ghost companies that registered as contractors with the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, for projects valued at N1 trillion.
https://cdn1.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/reps.jpg
The ad hoc committee raised the alarm during the investigative hearing at the National Assembly, that none of the 169 companies invited by the committee had shown up.

Chairman of the committee, Johnson Agbonnayinman, (Ikpoba/Okha federal constituency), said the need to invite the contractors was important, but lamented that efforts to reach them had so far proven fruitless.

He added that so far, only the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, responded to the committee’s letter.

He said: “You are duty bound to produce the contractors. They are nowhere to be found; they are not faceless but yet they cannot be reached.

“You gave them the job, so you should produce them; we are holding you responsible.”

The committee also asked the corporation’s MD, Mr. Adeseyi Sijuwade, to make available the agency’s record of Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, between 2010 and 2014, and was also asked to tell the committee what the IGR was used for.

In response, the MD said the IGR was used to augment the agency’s overhead budget.

… as MD denies N2bn pension fund request

Drama, however, started when the committee, acting on documents before it, asked the MD to explain all he knew and reason behind his request to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for a return of N2 billion or 20 percent of the corporation’s pension fund to the corporation in December 2014.

Responding, Sijuwade, who was reminded of being on oath, denied making such request to either the Accountant-General or Minister of Finance.

“I never at any time made any request to the AGF to return N2 billion pension fund to the corporation,” he said.

Insistent on getting to the root of the matter, the committee asked the Director of Finance, Felix Njoku, to take an oath in order to take questions regarding the issue.

Njoku did and insisted that there was never any correspondence from his office to the Accountant-General’s on return of the said money.

Not satisfied, the committee veered into what the organisation did with N2 billion that was in the corporation’s coffers around the period under review.

The Finance Director explained that the money was not related to pension and was used to fund ongoing contracts at the time.

He was asked to list the contracts. He promised to make available the records.

The committee also faulted the award of rail contract to Costain Construction Company, claiming that it had no competence in railway projects.

Sijuwade replied that Costain went through due process and was found competent by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, adding that it successfully completed its project.

Chairman of the committee adjourned the hearing and stressed justice and fairness, stating that the probe was not a witch-hunt.

There is outrage in Enugu State following the discovery, Monday evening, shocking images of dead bodies buried in shallow graves along the Enugu Port-Harcourt Express Road.

The incident, which occurred at the Ugwuaji Area of the State has kept residents in tears.

DAILY POST gathered that human parts and fresh dead bodies were discovered at an uncompleted building, inside a bush along the Express Way.

A source hinted that curious villagers raised the alarm, which prompted security agencies to invade the location.

In the meantime, villagers are pointing accusing fingers on a new church located close to the scene.

One of those who were at the scene described the act as “wicked and the most inhuman action I have seen in my entire life.”
“I was traveling when I saw the crowd there and had to stop. This is wickedness of the highest order. Accusing fingers are being pointed at a particular new church along that road; I don’t know who did this; but I must say that the wicked will never go unpunished.

“People no longer value human lives; for whatever purpose this was done, it is heart breaking”, he lamented.

However, the police is yet to make official statement on the matter.

PoliticsRe: It’s Unfair For Dasuki To Be Detained While Jonathan Walks Free – Waku by lolaxavier(op): 9:29am On Jan 24, 2016
Stexy:
Jonathan will not be dragged into this scandal. They should know this by now
My friend, his hands are already soiled with dirts. It is only a matter of time before he is made to face the music. How can corruption of that magnitude take place under his watch and he still had the effrontery to contest for another term. Imagine what this country would have become by now if he had won.
As clear as it can get, Jonathan cannot escape this. It is only a question of time.
PoliticsIt’s Unfair For Dasuki To Be Detained While Jonathan Walks Free – Waku by lolaxavier(op): 9:21am On Jan 24, 2016
A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the party’s former Board of Trustees member, Senator Joseph Waku says it is very unfair for the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki, to be detained while ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, who has been “a central and key figure” in the alleged diversion of money meant for arms procurement is left a free man.

Noting that Dasuki has repeatedly linked the former President to the scam, he asked in an interview with Saturday Sun, “can Dasuki do anything on his own without the consent and approval of the president and the commander-in-chief?”

The now All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain requested President Muhammadu Buhari to order the immediate arrest of his predecessor, insisting that letting the Jonathan alone feeds the big man syndrome which he described as one of the things killing Nigeria as a nation.

His words, “Is Jonathan bigger than Nigeria? Will Jonathan be the first former president to be investigated or quizzed over corruption? We should be able to draw a line between sentimentalism and patriotism. To me, asking Jonathan to speak out or being quizzed is an act of patriotism. Asking that he should be left alone is sentimentalism.”

While bemoaning the calibre of people involved in the $2.1bn arms fund scandal which he called a shame of a nation, Waku said, “It is very shocking and disgraceful, most especially when you look at the caliber of people involved.

“Look at the names that Dasuki has been mention ing as beneficiaries of the loot. These are people that Nigerians until now look up to with respect. Tanko Yakas sai, Tony Anenih, Haliru Bello, people who are supposed to be role models, now turning into looters. It is a big shame. I’m highly disappointed with these people.

“What does Anenih want again at his age? What does Yakassai want again at his age? It is a big shame on these two men refered to as elderstatemen, to be involved in alleged sharing and looting of funds meant to purchase arms for our troops to fight Boko Haram. These two old men should not only apologise to Nigerians, they and others that partook in the sharing should refund the money to the national treasury.”

Former Anambra State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chimwoke Mbadinuju has called for support for the anti-graft campaigns of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
He told journalists in Keffi on Friday that “what the president is doing is cleaning the mess of previous administrations. It is clear that the president is not the cause of our political and economic problems but rather finding solutions of past and present problems we face.

“Former administrations brought the “cankerworm” and “caterpillar” of corruption, injustice, poor economy, cheating and looting. President Buhari has extended the loot recovery to former Yar’adua-Obasanjo era and this is extensive enough to curb graft and recover Nigeria’s stolen commonwealth.

“Corruption will die faster in Nigeria if we do away with avarice, inordinate ambition, political ostentation, greed, cheating and the likes.”

“The president has travelled extensively but not for himself but for the Nigerian people. This travels to Europe, the United States, France, Malta and some other African countries were done to help our national situation and today Nigeria is better for those diplomatic travels.

“Just like Shakespeare said “folks who put the pipper to passion will see the pipper pipe after another fashion,” Nigerians should applaud President Buhari on this path to prosperity.

“Every well-meaning Nigerian can agree with me that President Buhari’s decision to opt for Minister of Petroleum was to right the wrongs of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Nigeria as whole. This is a master-stroke that is certainly good for Nigeria.”

Nobody should be spared in this fight against corruption.

Buhari can arrest and jail Jonathan for all the stealing that happened under him.

We need all our stolen funds back to run our great country.
It still baffles me when some nut heads come out and start shouting witch-hunting. Who cares, as long as it restores sanity to the country. Jonathan or whoever is found wanting should be made to face the music. How will this country move forward when the so-called youths are the one waging war against anti-corruption efforts.
