microgiant: Down converter is the antenna used to receive Over the Air Cable Transmissions.
The picture below shows an antenna with an inbuilt down converter. The down converter is housed in the white part attached to the antenna.

Down converters can also be standalone, as in second picture. In this case the antenna plugs into the down converter .

Whichever down converter used it is usually powered by a 12volts DC adapter.

Eureka !!!,
Got home 30mins ago, and as promised, I tried geting ctl on Gotv decoder.
Without DOWN CONVERTER, I got just the gotv channels + 4 startimes channels.
However, when I connected the DOWN CONVERTER, I noticed that while scanning, it was picking some channels but was writing "LOCKED" and after scanning I got 8 channels.
TBN, Smile, joytv , cine afrik , hitz tv, 4kids, emmanuel tv and peace tv , some of the local channels on CTL ibadan.

Tired now, will try with 4669x before I sleep.

I know someone in Ibadan that nailed it with 1.5m dish and d signals are stable 24/7.

My dish size is 1.8m,got like 71 channels.

adimek2002: For irib I got 71% but did not bother to check aljezera becuase I just blindscanned. I promise to monitor it in the morning and afternoon and more important during rainy weather and feed you back. But at the time I finished yesterday night everything was clear and stable.

installed mine too yesterday,got the same percentage,shortly after it rained heavily and the signals remained stable all through.

obnelly: Got aljazeera america today on arabsat 20e .its kind of funny I received all the c band with ku band transponder including irib .its really a crazy satellite world.is any body getting that channel on 20e lately?

My mbc2 is stable as offset lnb on 2.4m pan dish

My simple observation on SRT 4930l and 4922A,4992A seems to be more sensitive to signals,cos I receive some H transponders on nilesat on my 2.4m solid pan dish in Ibadan.

Boadu: Hello Gurus in the Forum, please something bothers me and I want some clarity. Please Gurus, is Aljazeera sports+ different from Jsc sports +? Are these channels free- to- air in Africa? If they are FTA, how can one track those channels? I mean the size of dish& satellite. I'm in Accra,Ghana.

Like Olenyi said,jsc sports 1 n 2 are free-to-air, jsc +1 - +10 are not free-t-air.

obnelly: I still doubt if mbc SD is receivable on 90cm dish .Guys may be mixing up things here MBC HD and jsc1,2,9 and 10 is possible with 90cm on AB7 NWA beam but MBC SD and jsc1,2,3,4 and 4 i doubt if that is receivable with such dish.I am using 3m and if its receivable on 90cm my mbc sd should've shifted from 66% to 98% but i still have the same signal strength there.May be those guys receiving it are lucky than I am.
Let people with 2.4m try and update the house about this new discovery using 90cm to track off footprint signal.

. Am using a 2.4m strong pan dish my mbc is 68%,I haven't noticed any increase in d signal quality.

when i hacked first post a bought cband on 90cm and good cband LNB for that .he jump in and copy pictures from WS international website and post here telling it is not news. but i hacked have the thing in hand with home picture to proof .
when we talk a bought sat finders the man have in hand and telling as why we need it,he just jump in with picture from website
when it is receivers he can copy from any site and past here ,wile he dont even know were it comes and how it is.swordswifter just post his work now he jump in with noting to tell.

I don't think you can get that beam with 1.8m dish cos its central asia beam u'll need like 4m dish for that,your best bet with ur 1.8m dish is Arabsat @ 20 degrees east,just get a c-band lnb.
