Dis Guy:Well it's to say that, BUT, do you not think that the management will tax the waiters tip so there is an incentive to still underpay the waiter. Even if they do decide to include the tip in the bill, will they not add an extortionate amount - would't you like to be able to choose to tip or not in these circumstances. Especially in Nigeria |
http://www.lomolink.com/why-do-you-pay-for-good-service Here’s what most people say. Because the staff are overworked and underpaid. When you are paying your tip you do not give 7% to the waiter and 7% to the chef. The biggest waiter is the Chef because he does not only serve table number 9, but the whole restaurant. That Chef, I think is by far the biggest waiter. What if you define “service” as the person who seems to come around every 5 minutes kindly asking if you want to buy more overpriced drinks or expensive desert? There is a principal of 10% of the bill. What if a family come with kids and ordered a bunch of cheap stuff and asked for several refills forcing you to come back and forth, the bill is $70 so you leave $7 (10%). Now a single man walks in and orders expensive wine and steak and the bill is $90, the waiter will EXPECT a higher tip even though less energy and service. Why did I assume he would tip more? Maybe there is another explanation. A psychological one. [tt][/tt] People like to feel generous. Giving a tip when you know you don’t have to makes you feel better than if it was in small print on the bill. It is a chance to prove to yourself and your boss at the table that you are the honest and honourable type. As is so often the case, there’s no right answer, just a choice. http://www.lomolink.com/why-do-you-pay-for-good-service |
It is true that we have done our reasearch and whilst I would not say we have the most hotels I think www.lomolink.com has been consistent and committed to ensuring that a standard is maintained. Nobody wants to go to a hotel anymore without seeing what it looks like and as this thread has even sounded, the hotels in Nigeria do not come cheap!! I think that most of the directories that I have seen personally just chuck lots of hotels and contact details with no real layout, structure and the website becomes quite unbearable. As much as most of these directories want to make money from advertising in every pixel on the screen; it is important that the users experience is enjoyable. You are right a lot of them are focussed on Lagos but I guess that comes from laziness. Whilst a large proportion of the hotels on Lomo Link do come from Lagos and Abuja we also have some in Calabar, Imo, etc, etc. We are also constantly growing our hotel list. Again it is difficult to list prices because these are always changing and there is no real time method of ensuring that the prices change on the websites as they do in the hotels. You find that most hotel prices are negotiated at the time of booking and some hotels do not want to list their price. On the matter of ability to book straight away, I 100% agree that this would be a great benefit but there are certain technical infrastructures. For example, the hotel and website would need to have a system implemented where one can reserve a room at the time of booking (i.e. 10 minute slot before your time expires on the website). Also the hotels would have to adhere to a strict set of rules so that they do not book a room without updating the central server. It would be more damaging to these directories if someone made a booking on one of these sites only to find that when they got to the hotel that the hotel had no more rooms left! In the future we hope that this can happen however it will take a lot of time, money and of course patience. At Lomo Link you get the chance as well to be a part of it with the mailing list (http://lomolink.us2.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=7a1c288a41640f9154be3d906&id=0ab12a5857) and the facebook page (www.facebook.com/lomolink) which is always good and we listen to feedback like these. What do you think?? |

http://www.lomolink.com/thats-not-the-way-we-do-things-around-here Please do not underestimate how powerful this sentence is. When you spend your hard-earned cash in one of Nigeria’s top hotels, a big part of the package is telling somebody about your experience – one that will no doubt shut down any uncertainty they have about how much more creative your life is compared to the spectators. Now you may ask where can I find these top top top hotels!!! The answer is ~ I don’t know either. What I do know is your either in or out. I once heard somebody say that people follow celebrities, but celebrities follow stars. You’re a top hotel when moguls want to go there just to say “I can.” There’s a simple test to see if your a big boy. If by some lucky chance you find out where one of these hotels are, try and walk in. Let me know how that goes. In Nigeria, everything is big or trying to get bigger. If your hotel cannot fit 6 hummers in the compound don’t even bother claiming what your not! One thing is for certain, there is no question that hygiene must be second to none. I can’t say the same about customer service. What all hotels do in Nigeria is sell us facilities - not customer service. When you spend 20,000 Naira ($118) on a hotel that is exactly what your going to get. And Deji and the rest of us are so brainwashed we rationalize it as a ‘better hotel’ |

http://www.lomolink.com/the-uncertainty-premium How much money would you be prepared to pay for a “5 star” hotel that had a 50% chance that it would have electricity and 50% chance of you being left in a dark room? Certainly not more than you need to. After spending the night, the question to ask is who rated this hotel?? Heres the interesting thing, how much extra would you be willing to pay for a hotel that was guaranteed to always have electricity, always check in on time, or a hotel that was always guaranteed to give you satisfaction? Suddenly, the rating of the hotel doesn’t matter so much as the amount of money paid. That’s because we’re often willing to pay a significant premium to avoid risk. When you “patronize” the manager of the hotel and he promises you that the price is right you will probably have no choice but to accept – along with his promise of certainty. Doesn’t work if there is a “sometimes” involved. |
You can try www.lomolink.com |
What I would love to know is out of all these Hotel directories which is the best and why to be honest |
@Awai Hotel, I heard about this hotel and there are some really good things to say about it. Please get in touch at info@lomolink.com. We would love to speak to you. |
thameamead:What I still feel bemused about is why one would look for each hotel one by one. It is time consuming and probably not the most effective way. Nigerians in diaspora dont even know where the best place to go is and they need a reputable place where they can search for hotels. In response to @CashChaser, you cant really rely on the hotels individual ratings as they will always over exaggerate their rating. Imagine going to a hotel that calls itself "5 star" and they dont have hot water. I would be seriously annoyed. Try out www.lomolink.com and join Facebook: www.facebook.com/lomolink An introductory offer at the moment so if you are a hotel owner send pictures and details to info@lomolink.com, we will do the rest. or just simply get in touch. Good day! |
