Why did Peter Obi not give them chance after his first tenure, but quietly finish his tenure and comeback to say zoning. Let the candidate have it.

Politics / Obi Rallies Support For Candidate From Anambra North by lordnammy(m): 9:21am On Jul 23, 2013
The Anambra government on Tuesday urged the electorate and other political parties in the state to facilitate the emergence of a governor from the Anambra North Senatorial District.

Fidel Okafor, Special Adviser to the State Governor, Peter Obi, on Political Matters, made the call in Onitsha.

Mr. Okafor said that the demand for power to shift to Anambra North Senatorial District was based on equity and fairness to people of that district. For the past 22 years, the people of the Anambra North senatorial district in the old Anambra, have not produced a governor.

Mr. Okafor said that the district had been politically marginalised for a long time now, adding, “This current marginalisation is not healthy for democracy and oneness of the people of the state.”

He admonished political parties in the state to pick their candidates and flag-bearers from the northern district to establish a balance in the governance and politics of the state.

“At least the people of Anambra have been sensitised enough to know that the people of Anambra North Senatorial District are laying very serious claims to this round of governance of the state. The sensitisation had gone wide enough that there is nobody in Anambra that will deny knowledge of the fact that we are saying that the next governor should come from Anambra North,” he said.

Mr. Okafor said that the zone was working on other potential it had to achieve its quest for power shift in the state.

“The political marginalisation of the zone was against the back-drop that it has the commercial hub and two-third of the population of the entire state within the Onitsha axis, and it also has the state’s agricultural potentials via communities along the River Niger,” he said.

The governor’s aide advised that no person from the zone should play second fiddle in any political party in the state, adding that chances of the zone producing the governor “is brighter now than ever before.”

Traditional rulers in the zone had unanimously agreed not to entertain or receive any political party that failed to field a governorship candidate from the zone for the up-coming governorship election.

The traditional body had also started lobbying and sensitising their fellow monarchs from other zones to the matter in order to engender peace and oneness among Anambra people.

However, more than 30 governorship aspirants from the district in more than six political parties have emerged with their posters dotting all nook and crannies of the state.

The Anambra governorship election is expected to hold in December, while the handing over is will be on March 17, 2014.

The Anambra North Senatorial District comprises seven council areas, namely: Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayemalum, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South and Oyi.

Politics / Andy Uba, 22 Others To Vie For PDP Ticket In Anambra Governorship Poll by lordnammy(m): 9:02am On Jul 23, 2013
The aspirants meet PDP national leadership, rule out consensus candidacy.

Twenty three people have signified interest to be candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State; and have purchased the Expression of Interest forms to contest the November 16 governorship election.

Josephine Anenih, the wife of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Anenih; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Committee, INEC, Andy Uba; and the Coordinator of Foreign Affairs at the PDP national secretariat, Agape Kramer; are among the members that signified their interest by purchasing the forms for N1 million each.

Others are a former member of the House of Representatives, Nicholas Ukachukwu; a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, and PDP chairman in Anambra, Tony Nwoye; a former Senator, Emmanuel Anosike; and Chairman, Gocuz Group of Companies, Obinna Uzor.

The national leadership of PDP had, during a meeting with the party’s stakeholders in Anambra State last week, released the guidelines for the governorship primaries beginning with the sale of Expression of Interest Form between July 18 and 19.

The party also fixed, for August 1 to 5, the sale and return of nomination forms, while the primaries and possible run-off hold August 24. It will submit the name of the eventual candidate to INEC on August 30.

Although the cost of nomination form has not been officially disclosed, sources said it may go for N5 million.

At a meeting with the party leadership on Monday at its national secretariat in Abuja, all the aspirants reportedly resolved not to pick one of them as a consensus candidate, preferring to go through the party primaries.

They also agreed that whoever emerges as the candidate should be supported by others who must not dump PDP for other parties in protest.

It was further gathered that the meeting, which was presided over by the acting Deputy National Secretary, Emmanuel Agboti, and acting National Organising Secretary, Hamisu Abubakar, resolved to shelve the use of electronic registration of the members of the party for the election.

According to a source, due to the peculiarity of the Anambra State chapter of the party, which has three factions, the meeting resolved that the factions should submit their membership lists from which the through membership would be compiled for the August 24 primary election.

The ruling party insisted at the meeting that members on the list of each faction must not only have membership cards but must produce evidence of paying their dues regularly and at the right time. This is expected to check the inclusion of names of people who were never financial members.

A source at the meeting stated that it ruled out the issue of electronic registration for the Anambra election because going by the party guidelines for primaries, the exercise should have been concluded at least a month before the ward congresses which holds on August 17.

Politics / We’re Ready To Receive Amaechi – Presidency by lordnammy(m): 10:57am On Jul 22, 2013
The Presidency on Friday said it was in the best interest of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State to heed the advice of the All Progressives Congress governors asking him to meet President Goodluck Jonathan on the crisis rocking the state.

The governors said this when they paid a visit to Amaechi and discussed the volatile security situation in Rivers on Thursday.

The governors were Mr. Babatunde Fashola (Lagos); Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Mr. Rauf Aregbesola (Osun); and Senator Ibikunle Amosu (Ogun).

The entourage also had deputy governors; Mr. Eze Madumere (Imo); Dameshi Barua Luka (Nasarawa); and Alhaji Muktar Ankar (Zamfara), who represented their principals during the solidarity visit.

Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, while reacting to the visit by the opposition governors to Port Harcourt in an interview with one of our correspondents, said the Presidency had no problem with the visit to Amaechi because free movement was part of the governors’ constitutional right.

According to him, the Presidency would receive the governor if he decides to visit Aso Rock.

He said, “The governors who visited Amaechi have the constitutional right to move freely and decide who they will associate with.

“Don’t forget that before that latest visit, four PDP governors from the North had paid a similar visit although they had issues with the people of the state who felt they were the ones pushing their governor.

“I think the eight governors advised him properly by asking him to seek ways of resolving the impasse.

“I am happy they told him the truth that media war will not solve the problem and that dragging the name of the President into it won’t solve the crisis.

“I hope the governor will not squander the goodwill and that he will listen to the words of reasoning his colleagues gave him.”

When asked whether the Presidency did not view the visit as an indication that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party might have lost Amaechi to the yet-to-be registered All Progressives Congress, Gulak said nobody was forcing the governor to remain in the PDP.

He said although Amaechi’s claim to be a PDP member by face, the governor had for long been romancing opposition parties.

Gulak said, “I have always been saying it that nobody is forcing him (Amaechi) to remain in the PDP. He has the constitutional right to join any party he wants. It is his constitutional right.

“Everybody knows that he has a face of PDP but deep in him, he has been romancing opposition parties.

“But my advice for him is that he should not forget the 2007 court ruling on the basis of which he is occupying that seat. The verdict was that it was PDP that won the governorship seat and not Celestine Omehia.

“That means he is indebted to the PDP and the only way he can pay that debt is to continue to be loyal to the party.”

On Friday, Amaechi, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH through his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, confirmed he would heed the advice of the APC governors.

The governor said there was nothing wrong with what his fellow governors had advised him to do.

Amaechi, however, did not state when he intended to visit the President.

Let's just look at unemployment for instance gas that are been flared if harnessed will go a long way to cub unemployment. Must we refine our crude oil outside the shores of our land, Is our country coursed not to generate enough power for its local usage. Anybody occupying the position of leadership here have enough problem for him to face head on, other than compounding our already integrated problems. Its time for we youths to take our future in our hands rather than leaving our future in the hands of leaders who does not have any future.

Smart Watches have been in the news a lot recently, in part due to speculation that Apple may announce one soon as an accessory for their iPhone range, or possibly even as a standalone product.  There has also been traction from Sony who’s basic design from last year is set to be updated in a release expected in September. What separates this Indian venture from this and other current high profile products such as Pebble is that it has been engineered to be a complete phone, utilising all phone features of the Android operating system including calls and messaging, whereas recent watches have acted more like notification hub accessories that sync with a primary device.

Four students from India have just beaten the major smartphone manufacturers in the race to create a fully featured Smart Watch. Well. Sort of Indian students create fully featured Smart Watch dubbed ‘Androidly’

Four students from India have just beaten the major smartphone manufacturers in the race to create a fully featured Smart Watch.

The new watch is called Androidly and has been developed by software developer Ankit Pradhan, communications professional Pavneet Singh Puri and lawyer Apurva Sukant. Also on the list of names is 17 year old Siddhant Vats. The group of 4 claim to have long been friends and begun the project as part of a shared idea to develop a mobile device  that is always visible and accessible. The story goes that one day Puri was receiving many calls regarding a college festival – one in particular when he was eating lunch, his hands covered in chicken curry! Unable to take the call he mused on creating a solution and Androidly was born.

Androidly runs Android 2.2 Froyo, so in real terms is by no means up to date, however it is impressive to see just how many features the team has been able to implement. With a 2 inch capacitive touchscreen, Android 2.2 is running in its entirety which means access to Google Play and any app supported by the hardware specification, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 2MP camera and of course a micro SIM card slot for that all important data connection.
