Goo0dHardDick: Like in the days of Blackberry (BB), why do ladies, especially Nigeria ladies, value or obsessed over iPhone so much? They wouldn't mind giving you their bodies to get it. And if you are a phone seller, these ladies can sleep with you as much as you want just to get an iPhone (only a foolish business man will agree to this).
Imagine a girl instructing her boyfriend to get an iPhone x or XR, or 11, saying she doesn't want her android phone fixed but would rather prefer an iPhone instead meanwhile she didn't contribute a single dime to purchase the iPhone.
Guys hardly show off with their iPhones or expensive gadgets as they do not see it as something worthy to die for, probably because they bought it with their own money.
A girl came over to my house and upon sighting an iPhone on the table, she immediately told me she was using an iPhone 11 but got damaged and someone had to give her the current android phone she was using. I simply told her "ok" and then changed the topic. She again went back to the iPhone topic and kept telling me how she's a huge fan of iPhones and the android phone she's using she's just managing it, bla bla bla..
Why do ladies obsessed over iPhone? It is seen as a status symbol. Expensive and exclusive just like Blackberry was back in the day. |
Literature › Re: Humankind Cannot Bear Very Much Reality by LordReed(op): 10:17pm On Sep 24 |
triplechoice: T.S Elliot is not saying the reason mankind cannot bear reality is because consciousness is limited. He is saying that human kind cannot bear it because it has identified strongly with the little self.
The poem is a metaphysical meditation .The line, itself, is spoken by the birds, a perspective from outside the human condition. The bird sees clearly because it has no ego. The bird is not overwhelmed. Humans are.
The limitation is not in consciousness itself. It is the human personality, the ego, often mistaken for the true self, which is fragile, distracted and time bound. The bird represents the true self or the higher self: the awareness behind the ego, the part of us that observe all things and is not overwhelmed
Our identification with the ego self is what makes reality unbearable. This is my interpretation. That sounds fair. I have often felt that dichotomy. |

Babatunjo: I look at some married men and sometimes you can see it.
He loves his wife. Loves his children. Would probably die for them.
But the man himself has slowly disappeared.
Everything is duty now.
School fees. Rent. Work. Family. In-laws. Problems. Somebody always needs something.
And nobody forced him.
It happened small small. One reasonable sacrifice after another until he became a shell, the last person on his own list.
Providing for everybody while slowly abandoning yourself is not the highest form of being a man.
This is where Nietzsche's idea of the Übermensch enters for me.
The man should still be becoming.
Still building his body. His mind. His money. His craft. His own vision of life.
Marriage should add responsibility, yes.
But responsibility should make you bigger, not erase you.
Love your wife. Raise your children. Carry your load oo.
But keep becoming the man you were capable of becoming.
Don't just provide a life for everybody else and forget to remain really alive, and become what you could be. I wholeheartedly agree. |
Literature › Humankind Cannot Bear Very Much Reality by LordReed(op): 7:24pm On Sep 23*. Modified: 6:07am On Sep 24 |
A quote by the author T. S. Eliot. This line appears in Eliot’s poem Burnt Norton, the first of his Four Quartets, where he meditates on time, memory, and the tension between temporal experience and a transcendent “still point”. The phrase suggests that humans often avoid or soften the harshness of reality because fully perceiving it, its impermanence, suffering, and complexity, can be overwhelming. Eliot explores how consciousness is limited, and how people rely on art, faith, and imagination to approach truths that might otherwise be unbearable.
What do you think about the statement?

triplechoice: 2.Morality didn't become relative because of failure to recognise a higher power or did because of liberal secularism..
It became situated, meaning the principles stay the same, but applying them requires judgement about circumstances. Your own Bible shows this. "Thou shalt not lie" is absolute, until Abraham lies to save his life. God doesn't rebuke him and doesn't revoke the covenant. The Egyptian midwives lied to Pharaoh to save the Hebrew babies. God blessed them with babies of their own.
So either the rule changes or God is inconsistent. Whichever you choose, morality required human judgement, not a mechanical rule or blind obedience. 3 Gbosa for you plus 1 bottle of your favourite drink. You hit the nail squarely. I dunno how anyone can prevaricate after this simple point. |

You asked if I would object to my daughter marrying such a person and I gave you the reason which had nothing to do with his person. When we say atheism breeds relative morality, u prove get angry. If your morality is clear cut objective, u would know what is good is good and what is bad is bad. It doesn't matter what the society thinks. U stand for the truth. I dunno who you've been discussing with, I have said it before and I repeat here: All morality is subjective and relative. would u return to slave to his cruel masters even when u know slavery is very wrong. No I won't. Would you? Paul in the Bible did. In the slavery era, it was a very serious crime for a free man to help a slave escape. U could be jailed for it. But lots of free people still do it despite the risk because they knew it was the right thing and the law was wrong. Eventually they were vindicated and now we look back and realise the immoral ones were the slave owners not the ones helping slaves to escape. Yet your Bible said you can buy slaves. Can you see that morality is relative and subjective? |

It bothers me because the people prejudiced against him are offering up unnecessary harm. It is their actions that would be immoral not his tattoos. Moral fibre is borne by conscious thinking beings, religious or otherwise. I know for us as humans we are the ones making moral judgement calls and all evidence points to it. Business › Re: How Dangote Sold His Refinery To Gullible Nigerians by LordReed(m): 6:14pm On Sep 20 |
dmexy33: I have been a broker, a financial adviser and a Financial technology expert for more than a decade, I was very disappointed to see everyone buying DANGOTE REFINERY IPO and nobody, not even one expert in the field spoke on the implications of owning a share in the IPO.
DANGOTE has read the handwriting on the wall so the decided to go public with his refinery IPO. Now let's look at the reality on ground:
1. Why is DANGOTE going public with the IPO? I know it is hard to believe but you must understand that after the second world War and the formation of OPEC, The global CRUDE OIL supply became an international product i.e the price of a barrel of crude oil in Saudi or Iran or Venezuela will be the same with the Price of a Barrel of CRUDE OIL in Nigeria. Sometimes there are slight differentials in price but the difference is never more or less above or below $20. So with the war raging in the middle east and has driven the price of CRUDE OIL to over $120/barrel, Fuel at the pump has become more expensive and the war will not stop anytime soon and there is a possibility that we will experience an energy crisis due to fuel being very expensive and unaffordable. There is a possibility that a barrel of CRUDE OIL will hit $500/barrel in 3-4yrs. This is part of the process of phrasing out fossil fuel i.e petrol from being used globally like was done in China and being implemented in the UK. So DANGOTE has read the handwriting on the wall and decided to sell the Petrol refinery to the Nigeria people who ignorantly and blindly rushed it without thinking. Olodo uprising indeed.
2. Will you make profit from the buying into the DANGOTE IPO? Yes, of course you will. But this is how it will happen; Due to exchange rate differentials, since the war in the middle east and Ukraine_Russia isn't ending anytime soon, it is projected that oil price will continue to go up hence, as oil prices skyrocket and the price of refined oil i.e Fuel at the pumps also continues to rise, you can expect you shares in DANGOTE REFINERY to continue to go up. Basically, as DANGOTE REFINERY SHARES PRICE goes up, cost of living for NIGERIANS WILL GO UP.
3. I see all these content creators and even other Nigerians talking about how they are monitoring DANGOTE trucks and calling DANGOTE, etc All I have to say is that 99% of Nigerians are olodos. Go and read the agreement, find out what kind of share holder you are and stop disgracing yourselves. When you buy shares in the Dangote Refinery IPO, you become a part-owner of the company, but your role is strictly hands-off. You have no say in the day to day running of the company. #olodouprising. LoLz. Oga be calming down. The IPO is projected to raise $1.2billion which is less than 10% of the $20billion it cost to build the refinery. So NO Dangote is not selling off his refinery to unsuspecting Nigerians. What he has done instead is offload some of the liability for the next expansion phase (which is projected to cost $14.3billion) so that his total liability reduces. Also this half year has seen record profits for the refinery which means the war has actually been "good" for the business. |

triplechoice: SIRTee would reject what you just explained, even though it isn't much different from my own position.
His question rests on an assumption that atheists/irreligious can feel moral outrage but cannot justify it, and that any moral standard the irreligious appeal to is borrowed from religion, not reason, empathy or social instincts. That's why he ends with "what is the source of this objection?" In other words, "where does the atheist morality come from?" . His answer is, It can only be religion or God. The atheist reject God. To him, that makes them hypocrites for practicing what they condemn.
As it is now, we're debating someone locked into the false belief that all morality can only come from God, a belief he has never evidenced but only asserted. Yeah it seems some believers can't distinguish between what causes moral outrage and an affront to personal taste. I daresay some are even afraid to admit that the things they cover in all the god talk is just their personal distaste which they think would run counter to the belief that all morality comes from their god. |

SIRTee15: U are becoming annoying. Now let me expose your hypocrisy.
If your daughter bring any of these guys as her future husband, will u approve? The guy is hard-working, runs a good business, treats your daughter like a queen, respects her and also empowers her.
Will u encourage your daughter to marry him?
If the answer is no, on what basis. What is the source of such objection
Now let's see doublespeak in action. Your question seems to be mixing moral values, cultural mores and personal taste. People's perception of tattoos and piercings is not a moral value judgement, it is a cultural and/or personal one. I personally do not like tattoos or piercings but I don't see the people who do so as immoral so my objection to my daughter marrying such a person is not because I think the person is immoral. I would object not only for my personal distaste but also because she and the children they'll likely have will suffer needless societal prejudice. |

jesusjnr2020: I saw a recent video which showed a lady fleeing, after the woman she was preaching to came out of her house with a fetish item, and I was shocked to be honest because the woman didn't come out with a cutlass, knife or even a gun but a fetish item.
That's why I couldn't rap my head around it, because if it was one of those physically lethal weapons, I would understand as it would make more sense to me, but certainly not juju, because it's the woman holding the juju that's supposed to be fleeing for her life instead of a true child of God.
That's not what someone taught me but what I actually learnt out of personal experience, when I truly became born of the Spirit and began preaching the Gospel on the streets.
I already shared here my encounter with an occultist during my early days preaching the Gospel on the streets.
https://www.nairaland.com/7362486/what-offered-occultist-while-preaching#117192587
This took place in the morning inside a bus park while I was preaching. That's where i met the guy for the first time, but surprisingly he said he already knew me.
He said he was just coming from a midnight meeting on top of Zuma Rock, and bragging about his riches and how many prominent church leaders are in their organization, trying to woe me to join.
However during our brief conversation, the occultic guy cowed when I tried to show him something in my small new testament bible, as if it was a knife or gun I pointed in his direction.
That was someone that posed as though he was so secure and sure of himself, hence trying to woe me to join his occultic organization, yet he would tremble at a totally harmless gesture to my utter shock, and that happened to be my first ever encounter with someone from the occultic world where the occultic identity was known.
But overtime, considering how my battles with some of the most dreaded and powerful occultists and witches in this part of the world panned out, I've come to realize why they're so fearful of true Christians, especially those of us who are truly born again and of the Spirit.
It's because they know that the Power we have backing us is greater than that any the power backing them can muster.
So they have to bow down to a Power that's greater than theirs.
God bless. That was a fraudster looking for his next target. At least you weren't gullible enough to fall victim for that scam. |
