Politics / The Impact Of Fuel Subsidy Removal On The Students by Lordsonempire(m): 9:33pm On Nov 13, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knJMcRltryg

The importance of fuel cannot be overemphasized. Virtually everything we do requires fuel from the movement of people from one to the other to the transportation of goods and services.

The removal of subsidy on fuel has brought untoward hardship to students. The upkeep money we receive has been eroded by rising costs of food items and transportation.

Furthermore, the cost of accommodation has also increased because landlords are equally affected. Lecturers who hitherto printed out class materials have no choice but to increase the prices of their handouts.

We must also not lose sight of the increase in school fees both in public and private institutions. The University of Lagos is a case in point. The school fees jumped from N16,000 to the sum of N109,000.

It is the children of the poor that bear the brunt the most.

All these impacts will have effects on the academic performance of the students as they now go hungry due to the prices of food that have gone beyond the reach of the common man.

Finally, the withdrawal of subsidy will further harm students because crime rates will rise as cultism will become more rampant. Similarly, fornication will be on the rise among female students. It is highly recommended that government should as a matter of urgency introduce palliatives measures that will ameliorate the suffering of students and their parents.

The decision of whether to go back to an ex or remain single forever is a highly personal one, and it ultimately depends on your unique circumstances and feelings. Here are a few things to consider when making this decision:
1. Reasons for the breakup: Reflect on the reasons why the relationship ended in the first place. Were there fundamental differences, incompatible goals, or unhealthy dynamics? It's essential to evaluate whether those issues can be resolved or if they are likely to resurface if you were to reconnect with your ex.
2. Personal growth: Consider how you have grown and changed since the breakup. Have you addressed the challenges that may have contributed to the end of the relationship? Taking time to work on personal growth, self-awareness, and self-improvement can lead to healthier relationships in the future.
3. Communication and trust: Open and honest communication is vital for any relationship to thrive. If you and your ex struggled with these aspects in the past, it's important to assess whether you are both willing and able to improve in this area.
4. Emotional well-being: Reflect on your emotional well-being and whether being single brings you contentment and fulfillment. While relationships can be wonderful, they should not be relied upon as the sole source of happiness. Consider whether being single allows you to focus on your own personal goals, interests, and well-being.
Ultimately, the decision is yours, and it's important to take time to self-reflect, seek advice from trusted friends or family, and consider seeking professional guidance if needed. Remember that there is no universal right or wrong answer, and what may be right for one person might not be for another.

Favour said, I understand that achieving a first-class at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) would be a challenging task. So she decided to adopt the following strategies to achieve her aim.

1. Time management: Develop effective time management techniques to ensure you can balance your coursework, assignments, and other responsibilities effectively. Prioritize your tasks and create a study schedule to stay organized.

2. Study smart: Rather than simply spending countless hours studying, focus on quality over quantity. Identify your learning style and adapt your study methods accordingly. Use active learning techniques such as summarizing, teaching others, and practicing with past exam papers.

3. Seek help when needed: Don't hesitate to reach out to your professors, tutors, or classmates when you face difficulties. NOUN provides a variety of support services, including academic advisors and tutors, who can assist you in overcoming challenges.

4. Attend lectures and participate actively: Make sure to attend all lectures and actively engage in discussions and activities. This will not only help you grasp the course material better but also demonstrate to your professors your commitment to excelling academically.

5. Utilize available resources: Take advantage of the resources provided by NOUN, such as the library, online databases, and study material. Utilize these resources to complement your learning and access additional support materials.

6. Stay motivated and persistent: Making a first-class requires determination and perseverance. Stay focused on your goals, maintain a positive mindset, and remind yourself of the rewards that await you upon achieving your desired academic outcome.

Remember, everyone's journey is different, and success may come at varying paces. So, be patient with yourself and keep working towards your goals.

It's an emotionally charged question, and one that has been on my mind recently. After all, forgiveness is a central part of Christianity and a key component of rehabilitation. But is it possible to forgive someone who has harmed us deeply? And is forgiveness always the right thing to do?

In this video, I'm exploring these questions and providing my thoughts on the matter. I hope you find the video helpful and that it opens up some discussion in your own life. Thanks for watching!

Travel / Youths Protest Terrible Condition Of Benin-Sapele Road by Lordsonempire(m): 8:53pm On Sep 20, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV4UCLhqKsI

Motorists and residents, particularly youths, yesterday, barricaded the ever-busy Benin-Sapele Highway and adjoining streets, following the inability of the Federal Government to fix its failed portions.

The protesters and other aggrieved groups, under the aegis of Freedom Ambassadors Organisations in conjunction with Sarbag/Sapele Road residents, who embarked on a peaceful protest, left motorists plying the route stranded for several hours.

Lamenting the deplorable condition of the trunk-A road over the years, the protesters mounted canopies and chairs on the road, a move that indicated they were ready to remain there for as long as the government is adamant to take action on the road.

They warned residents in the state not to contemplate travelling Benin-Sapele road during the peaceful protest.

Addressing newsmen, Mr. Daniel Omorogbe, Chairman, Sarbag/Sapele road axis, said the blocking of the major road and its adjoining streets has become necessary, following a series of avoidable deaths and unquantifiable man hours commuters expend on the road while trying to get to their respective destinations.

He said when the road got bad previously, they went on a peaceful protest, which drew the attention of the Edo State government to commence work on it, only for the Federal Government to allegedly stop the state government from carrying out palliative works on the road, claiming that it is a Federal Government road.

“Last year, we protested and the state governor came and made his promise that within 24 hours, he was going to mobilise contractors to come and work on the road, really, he did.

“He came with Hartland and Levant contractors and after the first day of their working, the Federal Government sent their troops. I was there and nobody told me about it. They asked the contractors to stop the work. He was told the road belongs to the Federal Government and not to the state.

“Ever since, they have not been working. So, we sent another letter to the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Abuja and they replied to us.

“They said the road has been awarded to Levant Construction Company. When I went to Levant, the contractor said they didn’t award the road to them.

“I sent another letter to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, saying we want to have Sarbag meeting with him, but they didn’t allow us to see him,” he said.

Omorogbe added that the residents of the environs have taken it upon themselves to reduce the incidence of deaths on Benin-Sapele road and also put an end to the nightmare their children face when going or returning from school.

“For us, our children, cannot access their places on time. When our children are going to school through the failed portion, we get scared. It’s really a problem. Like the tanker that fell last two weeks there. If it had happened in the afternoon, it would have been a disaster, but the luck we had was that it happened at night.

“ So we feel the pain of our brothers who lost their lives on this road. The person that died there the other time, his marriage should have been done last Friday, he is our brother.

“Last year, a similar thing happened, somebody died under the bridge. So, the property that had been destroyed is unquantifiable.

“We cannot just fold our hands, we are all taxpayers, let the Federal Government come and fix the road, we are not begging Fashola to give us money, let him come and work for us.

“We are not leaving here any moment. If they come with their machine now, we will leave the road. If they come next month with their machine, we will leave the road, if it extends to Friday, the Muslim will say their prayers here and if it extends to Sunday, we will do our service here,” he said.

Politics / I Will Eradicate Corruption In Nigeria---noun Student by Lordsonempire(m): 8:55am On Sep 17, 2023

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJqLjMJ5paI?si=YgkfbfSSndOzHO_u

It is crystal clear that the rate of corruption in Nigeria is alarming, uncalled for and absolutely abysmal. It has actually affected every aspect of public life, business investment and standard of living. It comes in different forms like petty bribery, contract fraud, money laundering, collecting salaries of nonexistent workers and illegally securing government jobs for family members and cronies.

Corruption is an epidemic that has eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigerian society. Over the years, billions of dollars has been stolen from various sectors of Nigeria’s economy which include petroleum industry, trade and investment, agricultural, banking, infrastructural and power sector.

The issue of corruption cuts across the entire nation. There are cases of corruption in the Nigerian police force, educational institution, political institution, health, humanitarian and many other sectors.

THESE are definitely harrowing times for Nigerians. Buffeted on all sides by the indices of bad governance, including widespread insecurity, poverty and degradation, they are lamenting the appalling conditions in which they have been trapped for a long time and the failure of government to guarantee relief. Since the Bola Tinubu-led administration announced the removal of fuel subsidy in his May 29 inaugural address, Nigerians hitherto grappling with poverty have become poorer and sadder. The address shot the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N195 to N500. But that was only the beginning of hard times, as a subsequent price adjustment, ostensibly in response to the global market, took the price of PMS to N617 per litre. A motorist lamented on social media that it cost him N15,000 to fill his car’s tank in May; N45,000 in June, and N55,000 in July. Terrible!

As a matter of fact, oil industry and economic experts have urged the Federal Government to intervene in the foreign exchange market and contain the rising price of petrol, which they say could hit N1000 per litre very soon, compounding the woes of Nigerians. Their argument is that allowing only market forces to determine the value of the naira could spell doom. To check the rising cost of fuel, they urged the government to, in the interim, give petrol importers special concessionary forex rates, fix all the local refineries so that petroleum products could be refined locally, and ensure that modular refineries are established in the country to augment the shortfall that may arise from the regular refineries. They also called on the government to curb oil theft in order to meet the country’s production quota set by the Organisation of Petroleum Producing Countries (OPEC), and consequently boost the country’s foreign exchange earnings. These are, we believe, commonsensical recommendations.

The idea of an Open University for Nigeria was first muted by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigerian government regulatory agency for all universities, in 1976. The NUC, then headed by Prof. Jubril Aminu as the Executive Secretary (1975-1979) sent a Memo to the Federal Military Government suggesting that an autonomous Open University be established for Nigeria during the Fourth National Development Plan (1981-1985). This was accepted by the Federal Government and subsequently, the idea made its appearance in the National Policy on Education in 1977. In Section Five Paragraphs 40, Sub-section A of the Policy, the Government declared that:

Maximum efforts will be made to enable those who can benefit from higher education to be given access to it. Such access may be through universities or correspondence courses, or open universities, or part-time and work-study programmes.

The Higher Education Division of the Federal Ministry of Education went to work on the process of creating an Open University and integrating it with the existing educational system in the country.

On assumption of leadership of Nigeria as the Civilian President in October 1979, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, immediately set up a Presidential Planning Committee on the Open University system to work out modalities for the establishment of an Open University for the country. Prof. Afolabi Ojo of the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) was appointed Chairman of the Committee on 14th April, 1980. Other members of the Committee included Prof. A.E. Afigbo (UNN, Nsukka) and Dr. Aminu Orayi (ABU, Zaria) and Mr. E.C. Uzodinma, who served as secretary but was later replaced by Mr. Olamogoke.

The Presidential Planning Committee presented its report in October 1980. The report which included the draft Bill for the University was approved. The Open University of Nigeria Bill, after passing through all the necessary official processes, which included change of name to National Open University, was finally ratified and signed into Law by President Shehu Shagari on 22nd July 1983 and was Gazetted on 27th July 1983, as the National Open University Act No. 6 of 1983, thus giving the University legal basis for its existence. It is this Law which governs the existence of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) till today.

It is worthy of note that upon the establishment of the National Open University in 1983, the Government named Alhaji Aliyu Obaje, the Attah of Igala as the Chancellor; Alhaji Shuaibu Na’ibi, the Madakin Suleja as the Pro-Chancellor; Prof. Afolabi Ojo as the Vice-Chancellor and Alhaji H.A. Erubu as the Ag. Registrar.

However, it was sunset at dawn for the nascent university when unexpectedly, the Federal Military Government that succeeded the Civilian Government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari suspended the operation of the National Open University on 25th April, 1984.

The Resuscitation

But the compelling need for wider access to higher education for teeming Nigerians would not go away a decade and half after the suspension of the university, thus the idea of reviving the National Open University forcefully entered into the government political narrative with the coming of the Civilian Government headed by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999.

In 2002, the suspended National Open University Act of 1983 was reactivated, thus resuscitating the National Open University with Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede as the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Jegede had earlier in 2001 been appointed as National Coordinator, National Open and Distance Education Programme by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) as we have it today has become a leading ODL institution in Africa providing functional, flexible, accessible and cost-effective education for all who seek knowledge. It currently has 78 Study Centres spread across the six geo-political zones of the country. The current student population stands at over five hundred thousand.

As a faithful trustee of the Nigerian people, NOUN leverages on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to deliver an education tailored towards the globalized economy. The University offers exceptional academic programmes that meet the specific needs of all sectors of the global economy, in the Arts; Health; Law; Physical, Social, Agricultural and Management Sciences.
