Is Cvt not a good one?

No they use another fluid for those transmission, as someone below has advised,
Don’t change yet until you determine the condition of the transmission fluid when it arrives or better still get the vehicle maintenance history if (it was probably done at the dealership ) and check if they ever changed it.

Please my first car is on the way to Naija, I want to know the best engine oil, transmission oil for 2012/2013 Toyota corolla, so that I will stick to it for better performance and long lasting.

For the engine oil use a reputable brand ( we have a lot all with various price range Mobil, Liquimoly, Hardex and the likes ) for the premium ones try and get from a reputable supplier that won’t sell fake
For your gearbox I hope it isn’t Cvt though, send a picture of the vin stamp to confirm, otherwise use the oil as specified by the picture below

Hi guys,

Would be doing a review of a Mazda Cx-5 and Mazda cars in general. Mazda cars have come a long way from their humble beginnings to their partnership with Ford , so glad they left ford , they were using Ford engines which had lots of issues especially with the water pump location and being prone to failure leading to a possible engine replacement due to its location.

In 2017, Toyota bought a 5% stake in Mazda and it’s been growing tremendously. The Mazda Cx-5 is still made in Japan and doesn’t use a CVT transmission, it’s very very reliable and up there with Toyota and Lexus and way more reliable than present day Honda that uses a 1.5l turbo paired with a CVT transmission.

If you looking at getting a Mazda try getting from 2016 upwards and avoid the years with a Ford Engine please.

The pictures attached is a Mazda CX-5 2017 very rugged and reliable car . 2.5L naturally aspirated engine and a regular 5 speed automatic transmission .

So how long have you used it ?
Has it been purely maintenance or at a point you had other issues with it ?
Do you think it’s a viable choice in Nigeria, giving the fact it’s a recent model Mazda, would part procurement be easy also.

- 2005-2007 tokunbo would have a price range of 8.5- 10m
- 2005-2007 preowned or registered, btw 5.5 -6.5
- 2008- 2010 tokunbo, 10.5-12m
Preowned unit btw 7.5-8.5m
Now this doesn’t mean you can’t find a good deal. sometimes, we come across good deals but I’ll advise to be careful. while doing a market survey on this 2005-7 corolla now, I saw a particular unit which was priced lower than the base value given but a close check on the car shows it’s was flooded and had damages all- around, which could pose an electrical risk in the future. In short, be careful while taking decision on what to get

How much is Es350?

A tokunbo es350 depends on some certain factor like the model year, for example
- 2010 -2012 would have a price range of 14.5-15.5m fair deal some might be more or less
- the 2006-09 could range from 12m-13m tokunbo
-2013/2016 would be btw 22m-25m
This values could depend on. Dealer selling, vehicles condition ( clean title Dey different from salvage one ) and all other factors

Let’s not get started that those cars can have gearbox flare issues. A toks es350 at that price surely has a reason why it’s selling at that price

It's been almost a year or more that this legend left without a goodbye. Before I got my first car in 2019, I learned about cars from his post in car talk. Always eager to navigate to car talk just because I want to read and learn something new from his post. Called/chatted him on several occasions about car issues and he would take his time to explain what to do.

Back then him and legalweath will always counter each other, his campaign on checking
VIN before making purchase, scan your vehicle instead of throwing parts at it. This man made me a DIY person.

All those knowledge just went with him like that.

Yes it does, the base version Corolla L does come without a Cvt though rather it uses a 4 speed gearbox, that’ll be a needle in a haystack to find though ( that particular trim )

What should I look out for in a Nigerian used car?

- Condition of the powertrain, I mean engine gear and even suspension component )
- vehicle import history; carfax report on the car to know how the service intervals was like and condition the vehicle came into the country ( flooded, salvage, rebuilt title) things like that
- Checking conditions of fluid ( gearbox engine oil and the likes )
- getting a scan done on the vehicle to ascertain it doesn’t have any fault code that could lead to expensive repairs
- checking for external oil leaks also ( some can be cheaper to repair but some even require the engine of a vehicle coming out )
-Vehicle history here in Nigeria also; what oil specifications have been used to service such vehicle ( transmission included)
- taking car for a test drive making sure the gearbox goes through all the gears without slips /flares .
This might seem so much but to help relieve your stress just get a professional to check any vehicle you would want to buy. I also offer such service too
