As for the mods, you’ll find better inspirations on site like Toyotanation, but obvious mods would be to get this rig lifted should be subtle though, maybe some wheels offset, checking condition of the diff, you surely want that’s in tippy top condition if you’ll be going off-roading.
How does she run also? I hope other basic maintenance has been done too?. All this would come at a cost too

First thing to do is fixing that gearbox issues, it’s most likely needs a replacement.

My fear for the MDX is the requirement for Premium Fuel while the Ford Edge can work on Regular fuel. The two seem to be at par on most other indices.

Another thing I’ve read about that model year of Ford edge is that they have issues of stalling, majorly on the 3.5l EcoBoost v6. A probable cause is the throttle body and they started failing at low miles.
For the MDX, their body parts are generally expensive. I mean things like doors, headlamps and the likes. Either way I’ll pick the MDX any day.
