Compliments of the season.

I’m a real estate professional based in Lagos, and I often visit remote areas for property inspections. I’m currently considering getting either a 2010 Toyota RAV4 or a 2008 Toyota Highlander. My concern with the RAV4 is that I’ve read online about potential mileage issues, while for the Highlander, I’m a bit hesitant due to its larger size.

I would really appreciate your suggestions.

Both are nice reliable vehicles, if you would be getting the 4 plugs rav4, it’ll be cheaper on gas compared to the highlander which would most likely be a v6, other wise the highlander is pretty much reliable, it also has a higher ground clearance compared to the rav4 too. If you would be getting the rav4,make sure you get the one with the 2AR-Fe engine preferable to the 2az

Very correct, there is a temperature range for gauging the oil level,set the oil level when the fluid is too cold and you have excess fluid in the system when it gets hot, then set the fluid level when it is too hot and ou have low fluid in the system, both extremes spells doom for the transmission. Lexus said that the oil is lifetime i will service the transmission again at 90k miles

Yeah, it’s better to change the transmission oil religiously than being sorry, nice work on the ride though.

I let the car sleep in the mechanic overnight, then drained the fluid at room temperature, after refilling with the whole 4 liters can, we started the vehicle, allowed the transmission temperature to heat up to about 35°C then we opened the drain level screw to allow the excess fluid to drain according to the above video. No issues so far.

Yeah that sounds like the Toyota’s overflow transmission, I still prefer the dipstick type transmission at least I can check the level and accurately gauge it, because any small error with getting the accurate temperature to gauge this one, can be a big wahala

Merry Christmas, bro. No, i didn't i engaged the car upholstery guys but i was there to make sure they were gentle with the parts. I also took it to car wash immediately to avoid stubborn stains

Another equipment change that didn't solve the issue. On 12th of December 2024, following the guidance of my boss @kingreign, I replaced the front linkages but that didn't also solve the issue but the replaced front linkages were visibly bad, the noise continued. Today 13th of December 2024, I finally decided to tear open the whole headliner, lo and behold, the noise was coming from the moonroof glass. For some reasons, the bolts that were holding the glasses were tight but the hanger to the bolts were wobbly. We constructed a packing from a metallic object and that solved the issue. Hurray! My ride is 100% healthy

How I missed this I don’t know, did you diy the headliner ?

hmm, highly debatable.
The Lexus brand is pretty much a Toyota, powertrain wise, just more refined so it also has that reliability to the touch, so you saying it’ll be difficult to maintain is wrong, that car uses a 2GR-Fe which happens to be very reliable, I think the major issue this had was an oil cooler issue which was resolved.
As for fueling, Op stated fueling won’t be an issue. I gave my suggestions based on my knowledge on this vehicles, it’s not nice that you talk down on that knowledge sir. I say that with due respect, Merry Christmas
