Côte d'Ivoire economic plan The plan is based essentially on a vast programme to modernise and develop infrastructure, and on reforming key sectors such as agriculture – in particular coffee and cocoa, the latter of which Côte d’Ivoire is the largest producer worldwide, with about 35 per cent of the world’s production. Other key sectors include oil and gas, mining, finance and tourism. The government foresees that 60 per cent of the investment needed will come from the private sector.

Investors are already flocking to the country. Among the flagship infrastructure projects financed with foreign investment is the country’s largest hydroelectric dam in Soubré, in the south-west part of the country, built by the Chinese for a total of €360 million. Other key examples can be found in Abidjan, where the Swedish company ABB recently won the tender for the expansion of the Azito electric plant.

In March 2013, India’s Tata Steel announced it would form a consortium to finance the construction of a railway line from its iron concessions in western Côte d’Ivoire to the port of San Pedro in the south. In addition, President Ouattara officially inaugurated the Abidjan-Yamoussoukro motorway last December, which is financed in part by Arab investors.

France, the old colonial power, remains the largest foreign investor but Côte d’Ivoire is now eager to attract investment from other European countries, in particular the UK, and it expects that trade with the UK will double by 2015. This is why Prime Minister Daniel Kablan Duncan travelled to London in October 2013 for a bilateral investment forum, and another large investment event was held in Abidjan at the end of January, called ICI 2014 (ICI stands for Invest in Côte d’Ivoire).

President Ouattara has also made great strides in the international arena. As Chair of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS), he took decisive action along with France to counter terrorism in Mali last year. He is also a fervent advocate of economic integration among West African countries: “Our economies are too small to stand alone,” he recently declared in an interview with the BBC. “We need more integration to spur growth and development for all our people.”

Economic integration ? you wan receive slap ? Whose economy is tool small, Mali abi Togo.

Undoubtedly, self-determination is indeed a right. It can be rightly pursued when the time is right.

Self-determination is a right and not "LAW". What is a right in one country, is not in another.

In many nations you can marry more than one wife , and also at a very young age. It is law in these countries, in other countries you cannot.

Human rights cannot be forced down any countries throat. The killings of African American are they not against human rights, has anything happened as per human rights. The human rights, is just a recommendation and each nation has a right to enforce that which it deems fit.

Self-determination can be a right in America but may not be a right in Nigeria. Sudan was not split, until a vote was carried out - it was not human rights that was considered though it was part of the argument, it was not the main argument.

There was a referendum, which was accepted by all parties - to enact into law the results of the referendum.

Dont full your self with this self-determination crap, does Palestine not have a right to self - determination.
Are gay and lesbian rights not human rights ...

Did you just call Nigeria a sovereign state A sovereign state is one which is independent in its affairs and territory and is complete in itself. This means that the state neither answers to nor shares power with others, including religious or other government powers. A sovereign state may conduct its own affairs without hinderance or interference.. We are not Sir we are slaves to USA and other European countries, they dictate our economy, even political scientist have argue this, So bro Buhari made a comment similar to this dude comment when Jonathan defeated him, so am just wondering why all this drama.

Another idiot from the east. Sovereignty is political not economical. Nigeria is too big, strategically located, economically viable(numerous trade partners). How have other nations influenced Nigeria's decisions. Ever since the IBB regime, Nigeria has been running on its own steam. We have been running our won shit for a long time.

Sovereignty is about internal control, so far Buhari government's clench is growing tighter, even Jonathan displayed the Nigeria's sovereignty, when the gay law was passed and shit did not happen . As, for the British MP - she's just another small fry looking for votes from the ibo speaking third class servants of the King of England in her constituency.

Biafran's should be the one's worried about sovereignty not Nigeria - your begging everyone, you have no influential friends you can speak for you, no aristocrats, no intellectuals and no direction. It's basically a rag tag group, looking for cheap publicity in return for financial benefits.

When to government works hard to improve human security, delinquents like IPOB, boko haram and Niger-Delta militants cannot hijack the peoples legitimate grievances to serve their greed.

You can simply think, that "cessation" is an IPOB affair, that the eastern part of Nigeria is an IPOB affair. Does IPOB provide the monthly financial support eastern states receive or did IPOB build the road, hospitals and bridges in the eastern part of Nigeria.

Have we not been having armed conflict in Nigeria to the extent of having civil war, why is Nigeria's case without a solution ? Are IPOB presently in armed conflict with you ? How many countries in Africa are in conflict because of secession ?

You should differentiate causes of conflict and its scope in different regions.

Last info, many countries agitated and got their nationhood and are doing fine. Biafra will not be an exception. I don't think there would be the term "secede" if all believe like u that conflicts arise from hunger and poverty.

Bye

1 There was only one civil war in Nigeria.

2 IPOB is currently in conflict with the Federal Government. Their is evidence this group (IPOB) planned to escalate to "armed conflict". Nnamdi Kanu's video where he solicited for "guns and bullets" is on YouTube and the world has seen it.

3 Nations agitated for freedom are not doing fine. Only nation that split without any form of animosity are doing well. India and Pakistan, Pakistan is now a terrorist strong hold. Bosnia and Herzegovina & Croatia and Slovenia (where are these two European nations). South Sudan is still burning !

Only nation who divided peacefully are growing. See Sweden and Norway, the UK and Ireland. And these where decades ago, between nation whom already where already wealthy and not struggling to grow wealthy.

4 For the causes of conflict each case is different. In Africa, however its poverty and poverty alone. It not ethnic or religious. If countries in Africa have good poverty levels we would have less conflict.

Look at South Africa, it still have conflicts every now and then. Though, it the most developed country in Africa. Conflicts rises from poverty and nothing else. Delinquents like IPOB simple hijack it , for greed

To ur dull brain, it is only hunger that induce agitation. How come there are no agitations in many countries that Nigeria is far better than. So all agitations across the globe are because of hunger ? Seems u lack sense.

Biafra didn't start today,. Biafra is a nation instituted in 1967. Go to hell with ur hunger story.

Hunger will first destroy other tribes b4 an Igbo man if it must destroy lives. Biafrans outside Nigeria are equally agitating to have their identity as against the identity forced on them by a white lunatic. That is the simple truth and not ur hunger rubbish.

If it is only hunger that moves black brains from yoruba and hausa, then know it now that Igbos are different. We are not moved by hunger. We seek for ideal state.

What countries in Africa , that Nigeria is better than have not experience armed conflict/conflict at one period or another. Please list them

Pls save your concern for your tribe and help them upgrade in anyway that will help them live happily.

My mother is from Anambra State, Njikoka LGA, Abagana to be precise. My grandfather on my maternal side, died an ICHIE !

It seems your confused:

In summary, the inhabitants of eastern Nigeria have genuine grievances with the government and BIAFRA is not one of them. The people in the east (pro IPOB) like those who join militancy and boko haram are hungry(hunger is the grievance), however IPOB has made them believe BIAFRA is the solution to this hunger, when in fact it is not.

Biafra will inherit the same problems Nigeria has - poverty, education deficits, insecurity and economic slowdowns. These issues don't care if your called BIAFRA or NIGERIA.

If people in the east live above the poverty level, have healthcare and other infrastructure - IPOB or Nnamdi Kanu would barely have any support as people would have less grievances with the government and as such have no reason to "think" cessation would solve this "hunger".

Part One

There is a research paper by Collier and Hoefler titled "Greed and grievance in civil war". The researchers argue that greed is the major reason for armed conflict/conflict. However, they say, delinquents like IPOB take advantage of the peoples grievances with the government and use it as a motivator and smoke screen to mask their true intentions which is greed.

Using the Brexit for an example, you can see how a group can take advantage of the people’s grievances with the state to achieve totally unconnected goals. The Brits, if they could vote again, would vote to stay in the EU. They voted to leave the EU, however they did not understand what leaving the EU meant or what EU - itself meant for UK's economy and status as a global player.

People in the East have no idea what it means to be a "BIAFRAN" - they never have been. Unfortunately, because of the grievances they have with the government, IPOB finds it easy to merge these grievances and channel it towards the BIAFRA "cause".

How can people mostly masses living in poverty and under poverty know what it means to secede from a nation in these modern times when the global balance is laying on its fringes?

How can they know, that infrastructure, security, and economy are key issues they will be contending with and as such the result would be more poverty, more disease, more crime and utter distress? How much of these masses has IPOB educated on the process of cessation? Do they know that they could be walking into a generation of despair and another of discontent?

When I speak of “grievance with the government” - these grievances are one and the same each region in Nigeria is going through. Poverty, poor health care, insecurity, poor education and lack of opportunities.

People are food hungry not Biafra hungry. The government must genuinely concentrate on raising poverty levels in all regions of the federation and channel its energies on pro-poor policies. Concentrating on poverty and education levels will instantly deprive boko haram, Niger-Deltan militants and IPOB of “this” power over the masses - whom are the true victims in Nigeria's current security and economic dilemma.

And do you know that whoever makes peaceful change impossible by chance has made violent change inevitable? Do we have provisions for state creations at independence in our Constitution? how come we now have 36states today?

2)If Igbo & other tribes were forced to become Biafrans... kindly tell us from which nation, those VERY BRAVE young men who confronted Nigeria military with sticks and bare hands came? How come they heroworshipped Ojukwu till death? How come the agitation refused to die years after such deaths? How come the agitation is gaining momentum daily? What is feeding this ideology today if it was anti-people as you said?

3)If we are to shift to morality...Then on what moral ground, should Nigeria(SW & North) confront a people they so much denigrate for cohabitation now? On what moral ground, should Yoruba want a union with a people they celebrated and still celebrates their massacre? On what moral ground, should northeners cohabit with a group they see as greedy, intolerant, pompous and arrogant? On what moral ground, should SW seek Union with a group they see as land usurpers, and ingrates? On what moral ground, should Buhari or any Nigerian leader expect loyalty from a group they disgust & derogatorily refer to as 5%?

Nigeria has NO COGENT REASON or JUSTIFICATION for holding Igbo back here...except for selfish considerations!!!

1 See here for the process of constitutional amendment http://www.academicjournals.org/journal/JLCR/article-full-text-pdf/157B8B555792. What is IPOB's plan ? How does it hope to get all these requirements ? Do you have intellectuals and aristocrats willing to publicly identify with this "cause" in order to push doggedly through due process ?

2 As you said, there was no referendum and as such the world never knew the true will of the people. Soldier's are trained to fight, and the men you say fought with inferior weapons , were protecting their communities and not the illegal entity "Biafra" which was seeking legitimization.

3 Now your just belittling yourself by condescending to sentiments. I said, on the case of morals "Biafra" should be celebrated, even re-enacted in cinema's but only to honor the memory of the dead and not to be used as tool for public effect and gaining sentiments from vulnerable populations.
