Brentford are boosted by the return of defender Kristoffer Ajer, who has been absent since early February with a calf problem.

Pontus Jansson, Keane Lewis-Potter, Christian Norgaard and Thomas Strakosha remain on the sidelines.

CHRIS SUTTON'S PREDICTION
Liverpool's attack is firing at the moment and I really like the look of their forward line.

They need to win every game to have a chance of getting in the Champions League next season, but even Reds boss Jurgen Klopp feels it is unlikely they will make it from here.

I don't even think they will beat Brentford, to be honest, because the Bees look like they are back on it after having a bit of of a blip a few weeks ago.

The way Thomas Frank's side came back late on to beat Nottingham Forest last week was a sign they are not on their holidays yet and they have made a habit of upsetting the big clubs this season.

Brentford deservedly beat Liverpool in January and I am going with the same outcome here.7

Sports / UCL: Liverpool Fans Party On Streets Of Paris As Riot Police Keep Watchful Eye by luvola(m): 11:00am On May 28, 2022
Thousands of Liverpool fans are descending on the French capital
Around 60,000 Liverpool fans are expected in the French capital this weekend as Jurgen Klopp's side take on 13- time winners Real Madrid at the Stade de France.

Supporters began to arrive on Thursday morning and by Friday, Paris had turned into a sea of red with fans even taking over the Eiffel Tower.

Fans filmed themselves packed outside L'Avenue restaurant as they belted out their favourite chants long into the night.

One supporter who had travelled from Southport to watch the final said there was a 'huge police presence' in the area as riot police kept a 'watchful eye' on the fans.

Matthew Walsh, 31, said: "We stayed down the street outside L'Avenue belting out the Diogo Jota song. It was fantastic. There was a huge police presence but no trouble whatsoever.

"Everyone was just having a great time and hopefully it's the same again today. The riot police were sound and a few of them every took videos of us. They were making sure the traffic could get through as well."

People in Liverpool shirts and holding banners and waving flags could be seen across the city.

French police have warned that wearing any football club colours is banned near the Champs Elysees.

The restriction covers the popular tourist attraction area from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe.

Merseyside Police’s Liverpool FC Twitter account said: “As of 15.00 on 26.05 until 18.00 on Sunday 29.05 it is prohibited to wear any football club colours in the area of the Champs Elysees.

“This includes scarves, hats, displaying banners etc. The police can issue a 135 Euro fine.”

However, supporters were still seen with Liverpool shirts and memorabilia and officers did not appear to be stopping them.

Banners seen around the city read “up the Reds” and “Conquering Europe”.

Police vans were lined up close to Gare du Nord train station where the Eurostar from London arrive, with armed officers patrolling the area.

Liverpool are hoping to lift the trophy for the seventh time on Saturday after last winning the competition in Madrid in 2019.

A Red Army of Liverpool football fans began to arrive in Paris today as 6,000 French police prepared to welcome them for the European Cup Final.

A massive security operation swung into operation on Friday, in time for kick off against Spanish Champions Real Madrid on Saturday night.

'We expect upwards of 60,000 Liverpool fans alone to come, and about two-thirds will be without tickets,' said a local police spokesman.

'There will be less from Madrid, but both sets of supporters will be encouraged to use fan zones and to respect others enjoying the city this weekend'.

The police confirmed that 6,000 police and gendarmes would be on the streets of the French capital over the weekend.

Many of the Liverpool faithful in the centre of the city had come from thousands of miles away, including the United States and South America.

'We had to be here, and started to make plans before the semi-final,' said Arash Shahideh, a 57-year-old from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

'I've supported Liverpool all my life, and get to Anfield as much as I can,' said Mr Shahideh, who was with his sons, Kia Shahideh, 26, and Ata Shahideh, 23.

'We've flown over for a long weekend, and all of us have tickets, thankfully. We're hoping for a 2-1 win for Liverpool.'

Liverpudlians Ben Hines, 23, Ben Lee, 22 and Chris McCarthy, 20, had flown into from their home city and were showing off a red flag reading 'Liverpool FC : Wherever You Go, I Go'.

All are loyal and experienced fans who have followed their club all over the world, so had little trouble organising a successful trip.

'We managed to find a studio to stay in for less than £200 for the weekend, and two of us have tickets so far,' said Mr Hines, who is a veteran of epic finals including Liverpool's game against Real Madrid in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2018.

'There were a lot of flight cancellations from Liverpool when we came over to Paris this time round, but we were very lucky, and weren't affected,' Mr Hines added.

Rowan Poudley and Annan Parmar, two 19-year-olds from Bristol, were determined to be in Paris for the atmosphere.

Both are students on their gap year – Mr Poudley is off to Liverpool University to study Criminology, and Mr Parmar will be reading Politics at Birmingham.

'Neither of us have tickets, but that won't stop us enjoying the game,' said Mr Parmar. 'We managed to find a decent place to stay out of the city, and public transport has been pretty good so far.'

Kathalina Sanchez, 35, is from Colombia and a massive fan of Liverpool's star Colombian striker, Luis Diaz.

'I just hope he can score on Satuday,' said Ms Sanchez, who was with friends from Lyon, eastern France, where she is currently working.

'I've been a supporter of Liverpool since I was a little girl, as my dad was a big fan. I started out loving Michael Owen and my captain, Stevie Gerrard, and now I love players like Diaz and Sadio Mané.'

Dror Moran, a 55-year-old Israeli, flew in especially for the game, along with his son, Ido Moran, 22.

'I've been a Liverpool fan for more than 40 years, since the 1970s,' said Mr Moran. 'We've managed to get tickets through UEFA, and accommodation too. We're hoping that Liverpool can win 2-1'.

Liverpool fans arriving in Paris via Eurostar said tickets were 'like gold dust' with many saying they were just there to savour the atmosphere.

Dad Finton O'Leary, 48, from Shrewsbury arrived with his son Jon Joe, 10, on a packed train from London St Pancras, told MailOnline: 'We don't have a ticket for the game. They are like gold dust but we are here for the atmosphere.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Norwich Vs Liverpool (0 - 3) On August 14 2021 by luvola(m): 2:21pm On Aug 14, 2021
Once again, Liverpool will meet the winners of the previous Championship campaign on the opening day of the Premier League season, with Norwich City welcoming Jurgen Klopp's men to Carrow Road on Saturday evening.

The Canaries amassed 97 points en route to the second-tier title last term, while Liverpool managed to end a topsy-turvy Premier League campaign in third position.

Match preview

Preview: Norwich vs. Liverpool - prediction, team news, lineups

As with every title-winning side, there were several blips along the way, but Norwich were simply a class above for the entirety of the 2020-21 Championship season, finishing six points clear of second-placed Watford and sealing an immediate return to the big time.

Rewarded with a new four-year contract for his efforts, Daniel Farke prepares to navigate another Premier League campaign in charge of the Canaries, whose tally of five wins and 21 points in the 2019-20 season saw them finish rock bottom of the pile, in spite of some individual shining lights.

One of those standout players - Emiliano Buendia - will now be lining up against Farke's side following a move to Aston Villa, but Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki will endeavour to once again prove their top-flight credentials, with Norwich facing another inevitable fight to avoid a swift demotion.

Having beaten King's Lynn Town, Lincoln City, Huddersfield Town and Gillingham in pre-season, Norwich tested themselves against Premier League opposition during their final warm-up match, but they were comfortably dispatched 3-0 by Newcastle United earlier this month.

However, recent coronavirus chaos has disrupted Farke's pre-season plans a considerable amount, with any chances of a first opening-day victory in the Premier League since the inaugural 1992-93 season slim enough as it is.

Preview: Norwich vs. Liverpool - prediction, team news, lineups

Long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip spelled the end of Liverpool's title defence very early on last term, and Jurgen Klopp would proceed to downplay his side's chances of even making the top four during their abysmal February and March period.

A dismal streak of six defeats from seven would see Liverpool languish in eighth position with 10 games left to play, but a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers kickstarted an end-of-season revival for the Merseysiders, who went unbeaten in their last 10 and won their last five to pip Chelsea and Leicester City to third place on the final day.

Despite finishing 17 points adrift of runaway champions Manchester City, all has been rather quiet on the transfer front at Anfield, but the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig has bolstered their defensive ranks at a time where their three long-term victims continue to build up their match fitness.

Liverpool's stellar end-of-season run also saw them claim 19 points from the last 21 on offer away from home, and their opening-day endeavours tend to be truly thrilling affairs, as evidenced by their 4-3 success over Leeds United at the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

Another goalfest in Liverpool's favour could be on the menu at Carrow Road, as the Reds are currently on a seven-game winning streak away to their upcoming opponents and have not lost to them in the top flight since April 1994.

Team News
Preview: Norwich vs. Liverpool - prediction, team news, lineups

The irrepressible Pukki will lead the line as he aims to build on the 11 Premier League goals he struck in the 2019-20 season, but Cantwell must shake off an ankle ligament strain if he is to line up against the Reds.

Lukas Rupp is struggling with an issue in the same area and will need to be assessed, while the likes of Milot Rashica and Grant Hanley will certainly start if training goes well for the COVID-affected pair.

Josh Sargent has followed his former Werder Bremen teammate to Carrow Road but will not be ready for a starting role yet, and the same can be said for teenage winger Christos Tzolis, who arrived from Greek side PAOK on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson will be out for the next few weeks or so with ankle ligament damage sustained in pre-season, but Kostas Tsimikas has caught the eye with his displays over the summer.

Konate seems certain to earn a start while Matip, Van Dijk and Gomez continue to edge closer and closer to full fitness, but Klopp is optimistic that the latter two could be ready for starting roles at the weekend.

Concussion protocols will keep Curtis Jones out of the trip to Carrow Road, where Mohamed Salah will aim to become the first player in Premier League history to score on the opening day five years in a row.

Norwich City possible starting lineup:
Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Giannoulis; Rupp, Gilmour, Lees-Melou; Rashica, Pukki, Cantwell

Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Thiago, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Preview: Norwich vs. Liverpool - prediction, team news, lineups
We say: Norwich City 0-3 Liverpool
Fans have been treated to some spectacular opening-day scorelines involving Liverpool, whose defence has not exactly proved impenetrable at the start of the season in recent years.

Norwich and Farke are under pressure to avoid another immediate demotion to the Championship, but their first game back at the top level is likely to be a forgettable affair.

After the failure of their plan to form a European Super League, Liverpool find themselves in the unenviable position of sitting seventh in the Premier League, needing to leapfrog three teams in order to achieve Champions League qualification. It's a tall task and one which will certainly require them taking three points as Newcastle, a team that has just barely managed to extricate itself from the thick of the relegation battle

Team news, stats, kick-off time ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg between Liverpool and Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Team News

Liverpool should have midfielder Curtis Jones back for Wednesday's crunch Champions League quarter-final second leg with Real Madrid.

Jones missed Saturday's Premier League victory over Aston Villa with a muscular strain but is expected to return to the Liverpool squad, though the game will come too soon for captain Jordan Henderson.

Long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip remain out, meaning the inexperienced centre-back pairing of Ozan Kabak and Nat Phillips is likely to be retained.

Real Madrid have added Lucas Vazquez to their lengthy injury list ahead of Wednesday's trip to Anfield.

The makeshift wing-back injured his knee in Saturday's El Clasico victory over Barcelona, meaning Alvaro Odriozola is set to deputise in Vazquez's absence.

Real are sweating on the fitness of forward Federico Valverde after bruising his foot though he is expected to recover, but the same cannot be said for Eden Hazard, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane

Klopp cautious about comeback chances

Image:Jurgen Klopp is cautious over Liverpool's comeback credentials

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists his side can not take another Champions League comeback for granted as they look to overturn a two-goal deficit against Real Madrid.

Wednesday's match takes place five years to the day since they pulled off an added-time victory to beat Klopp's former side Borussia Dortmund in a Europa League quarter-final second leg, having been 4-2 down on aggregate with 24 minutes to go. Despite the impressive record of comebacks, however, Klopp sounded a note of caution.

"You cannot take it for granted. You never could and you never should," he said.

"You don't get a comeback because you had one in the past. You only have a chance if you play really good football in the present and that's what we have to do.

"The best situation would be that you didn't need a comeback. That's not worth talking about now."

Robertson: Liverpool need near-perfect performance

Image:Andy Robertson says Liverpool need a near-perfect performance to overturn Real Madrid's first-leg lead

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson insists the players are determined to prolong their Champions League season despite few people giving them a chance of making the semi-finals after their woeful first-leg performance against Real Madrid.

Jurgen Klopp's side trail 3-1 heading into the second leg at Anfield, which devoid of fans will not be able to provide the backdrop for another potential comeback like the one famously fashioned against Barcelona two years ago.

Robertson believes the task that awaits them on Wednesday is equal to that which faced them after losing 3-0 to Lionel Messi-inspired opponents in the Nou Camp, when supporters played their part in the 4-0 home win.

"They are both as hard, and are different but same in their own way," said the Scotland captain. "Barcelona that night was obviously an incredible night and wouldn't have been possible without fans in there.

"The fans made us feel 10 feet tall and believe even more. We felt before that game we could overturn it. It's a big task for us and isn't the same as the Barcelona game. We can't rely on the fact we came back in that game that we are going to come back in this one.

"People have maybe written us off, but we believe we can put in a better performance than last week and that's the only way to give us a fighting chance. We believe we can win the game. If we do that it gives us a fighting chance; let's see if it's enough on the night. Fingers crossed it will be."

Liverpool host RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg on 10 March at 21:00 CET. This page will update with team news, quotes and expert analysis as kick-off approaches. The game is being staged at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary.

Liverpool ended a run of three successive defeats with a 2-0 win that came courtesy of second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Phillips, Robertson; Jones, Wijnaldum, Thiago Alcântara; Jota, Salah, Mané

Leipzig: Gulácsi; Adams, Mukiele, Upamecano, Klostermann; Sabitzer, Kampl; Haidar, Nkunku, Olmo; Poulsen

Expert predictions
Matthew Howarth, Liverpool reporter: Given Liverpool’s wretched home form, playing the last-16 second leg away from Anfield might suit Jürgen Klopp and his players. A healthy lead from the first leg should see them safely through to the quarter-finals, but an early Leipzig goal would certainly test the Reds' fragile confidence.

Jordan Maciel, Leipzig reporter: Leipzig are flying domestically but have a mountain to climb after an error-strewn 2-0 defeat in the first leg. Wednesday's opponents should provide all the inspiration they need to pull off a memorable comeback, however. Liverpool are low on confidence and defensively fragile; if Leipzig score first, the tie is wide open.

Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool manager: "We have momentum in the Champions League. Leipzig have a different momentum as they won the last four, but previous results don’t impact on the game. Why can we win the UEFA Champions League? Two things: the quality and football in general. You always have a chance in the next game. It's half-time: we have to play the game. I have no doubt about us. We will give it a proper fight."

Julian Nagelsmann, Leipzig coach: "It won't be an easy task: the players know and I know. We must avoid the mistakes we made in the first leg. We will give everything we have and of course we can dream of delivering a great game. We haven't produce a motivational video of great past comebacks, but the guys know that some crazy things have happened in football and such a result could be turned around in a second leg."
