Firstly, all states have the powers through their legislature to enact laws so far those laws do not contravene the already existing constitution.

Let me give you an example from the US which has a federal constitution as well but with states having powers to enact their own laws and in this case I will be referencing Marijuana laws.

Some states have outrightly banned and criminalized Marijuana possession, consumption and distribution while some treat Marijuana possession as a misdemeanor but frown at distribution while others have enacted laws legalizing Marijuana use and sale.

As per alcohol, Nigeria has laws regulating its production, advertisement, sale and consumption.

By law, you can't produce nor sell alcohol without getting approval from the government which in this case is the federal govt that regulates the production of alcohol while local governments enforce permits for sale of alcohol and universally, alcohol is not to be sold to minors below the age of 18.

Every state and their local govts are empowered by law to regulate alcohol sale by issuing license for taverns and bars where alcohol is sold. States can pass laws restricting where alcohol can be sold or not sold. In the FCT, a minister once banned alcohol sale in and around public recreational parks and he defended it by saying these where communal spaces built and maintained by the FCT with public funds for all including minors.

Now in Sharia north, alcohol sale is banned. But there is a walk around the law as the Emir can and does issue license for sale of alcohol within his jurisdiction and provides necessary restrictions.

All those bottles you see being destroyed by Hisbah are from dealers who do not have license to sell or distribute alcohol or are selling it in areas that were not allowed for alcohol consumption.

As per hypocrisy , an Anambra High Court convicted a native doctor for practicing and offering his spiritual services to the public.

Now this is a direct contravention of the Constitution that guarrantees freedom of worship .The convicted witch doctor had entered a plea bargain rather than challenge the court and demand for enforement of his constitutional rights. I will speculate that the witch doctor entered a plea bargain because when his shrine was raided and forensic examination was to be carried out on all items in the shrine, the government had said they will be carrying out extensive forensic analysis to see if any human remains where found in the dozens of ritual pots that were found there.

Finally, there is no where on the planet that alcohol is not treated as a vice. The fact that governments around the world place heavy taxes and levies on the production, distribution, marketing, sale and consumption on alcohol is a clear signal that it is treated as a controlled substance. Even here in Nigeria, we have laws that forbid women being used in advertising alcohol. You will only see men drinking or posing with an open bottle but women are forbidden from directly used as a target audience just as you will never see kids being used to market alcohol. There is even a negative stereotype against women who drink alcohol. Abi I lie?

So if women and children are not expected to consume alcohol, why then should men be allowed?

I am not against alcohol consumption as I am a beer man myself but we should understand that not all vice are tolerated. Even you wey dey drink beer no say no be better thing if over done.

But my point is it was about Jonathan tribe for yorubas. tinubu struck a deal with Jonathan during his 1st term election paving way for less competitive election and non existent opposition.

In Jonathan's quest for 2nd term tinubu joined forces with buhari instead and it took more than tinubu joining forces to defeat Jonathan, it also took Jonathan and his government being very corrupt, arrogant and stupid.

Jonathan's issue wasn't about tribe for yorubas, it was about tribe for the North.

Yorubas had 2 main issues with Jonathan..

1, lopsided appointments, Jonathan sidelined yorubas(but they didn't mind or complain so much)

2, The worsen state of the country and brazen corruption.
