In one of the most shocking moments in Oscars history, Will Smith stormed on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock for a joke the comic made about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith (video below).

The drama began when Rock was presenting best documentary during the 2022 ceremony. Rock made a crack about Pinkett Smith getting ready to film a sequel to G.I. Jane — an apparent reference to the actress having a shaved head. Pinkett Smith has been open about having hair loss due to alopecia.

“Jada, I love ya,” Rock said. “G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it. Alright?”
Smith laughed, though looking a bit uncomfortable. Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes and glared at Rock.
What happened next was censored in the United States but aired elsewhere.

As Smith went back to his seat, Rock marveled, “Wow, wow … Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me.”

“Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” Smith roared.

“Wow dude, it was a G.I. Jane joke,” Rock said, which prompted Smith to repeat his demand.

Looking visibly shaken, Rock paused for a moment and then told the crowd: “That was a: Greatest night in the history of television” and then continued along with his presenter moment.

During the next commercial break, Smith was pulled aside and comforted by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry, who motioned for him to brush it off. Smith appeared to wipe tears from his eyes as he sat back down with Pinkett Smith.

The next presenter, Sean Combs, addressed the stunning moment by saying, “I did not know that this year was gonna be the most exciting Oscars ever. Okay, Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family at the Gold Party. But right now we’re moving on with love — everybody, make some noise!”

And that might have been the end of it. But in another dramatic twist, Smith then won the award for best actor for King Richard — his first Oscars win — and re-took the stage.

While the Smith-Rock confrontation initially had many wondering if it was some kind of stunt, any doubts were erased when Smith used his moment on stage to apologize for his actions.

“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family,” Smith said. “In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world. Making this film, I got to protect Aunjanue Ellis, who is one of the most strongest, most delicate people I’ve ever met. I got to protect Saniyya and Demi, the two actresses who play Venus and Serena. I’m being called on in my life to love people. And to protect people and to be a river to my people.”
Smith wiped away tears and continued: “I know, to do what we do, we got to be able to take abuse. You gotta be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business you gotta be able to have people disrespecting you and you gotta smile and pretend like that’s OK. … Denzel said to me a few minutes ago, ’At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you.’ I want to be a vessel for love. I want to say ‘thank you’ to Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family for trusting me with your story. …. I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care.”

He continued, “I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me, it’s about being able to shine a lot on all the people… and the entire cast and crew of King Richard and Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams! But, love will make you do crazy things.”

Edo State government has commended Inner – City Innovative Hub for its innovative services, youth development, commitment to human capital and technological development in the state. This is even as it highlighted the objectives of its technology startup project while calling on the youths of the state to take advantage of the opportunities being offered by the tech firm.
This development was disclosed by the Focal Person, National Social Investment Programme to the Edo State governor, Miss Osayuwamen Aladeselu, who is also the Senior Special Adviser, Edo State Social Investment Programme to the governor, during a facility tour of Inner – City Innovative Hub, a technology firm based in Benin City, the state capital.
The tech firm, which was initiated by United Kingdom – based Edo –born tech entrepreneur, Hilton Idahosa, who is the founding chairman, enjoys the support and partnership of Edo Social Investment Programme, has commenced its inaugural startup cohort in August, with the aim of helping young entrepreneurs build and start their businesses and exposing them to investment possibilities through such avenue as mentorship, computer training boot camps in software development and multi – media skills.

The visit, according to Aladeselu, was part of her routine check and oversight to ensure that tech innovation hubs in the state meet the standard requirements in training and equipping youths with tech skills and business mentorship.
The team which was received by the Chief Executive Officer, of the firm, Mr. Eghosa Igori, and his team of mentors, developers and instructors, who conducted them on tour of the entire facilities and briefed them on its mandate.
On inspection of the hub’s facilities, which comprised of a conference and training rooms, work station as well as a multi-media studio, Aladeselu and her team expressed satisfaction over the state of the facilities and commitment of the firm to its core mandate.

They used the opportunity to interview one of the startup innovators, who built an employment solution platform aimed at linking job seekers with employers and also equipping them with needed skill set required by employers.

She was accompanied on the visit by the Special Adviser on Edo Startup Fund and Conditional Cash Transfer to the governor, Mr. Oghosa Enobakhare, and a seasoned investment and banking specialist, Mr. Emmanuel Ihianle.

A University is a place study where the mind and intellect of a man/woman is formed. What is the business of university on how a student dresses? They want to turn the institution to a primary school? No dark sun glasses, no dreads? Have they looked at the world that we live in? We have to think outside the box. Conformity did not set up Apple, Amazon, Tesla, Facebook or Google?
