Family / Meet Hope: 2 Year Old Boy Accused Of Witchcraft And Left To Die by Maikey: 8:04pm On Feb 16, 2016
Hope was starving and riddled with worms after being dumped by his family and living on the streets for eight months

A heartbreaking series of photographs shows the moment an emaciated two-year-old Nigerian boy, riddled with worms and reportedly abandoned by his family because they thought he was a witch, is given water by an aid worker.

He had lived on the streets for eight months, surviving on scraps and whatever he could find, before being discovered by Anja Ringgren Lovén, the Danish founder of the African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation.

In the pictures – which went viral online bringing in 1 million Danish Krone (£104,000) from wellwishers - she is seen helping him drink water.

She then wrapped the boy in a blanket and took him to the nearest hospital.

After two days of care, she wrote that his condition had greatly improved.

“He’s taking food for himself, and he responds to the medicine he gets," she wrote in a blog post. "Today he has had powers to sit up and smiling at us. He’s a strong little boy. To see him sit and play with my own son is without doubt the greatest experience of my life! I just don’t know how to describe it in words.”

She added that she had named the boy Hope (a word she has tattooed on her knuckles).

Ms Loven set up her charity three years ago to help children accused of being witches. She said it was problem with wide-reaching effects.

“Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we've both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children,” she wrote in a Facebook post accompanying the pictures of Hope.

“This footage shows why I fight. Why I sold everything I own.”

She said that Hope was battling worms but added that he would soon be well enough to join the other children she looks after in Uyo, southern Nigeria.

I know there are mysteries in Life, but why bring a child into this world only to accuse said child of witchcraft and abandon him!

In my opinion, only a witch begets a witch! Therefore you the accusers are also guilty of witchcraft if there's anything like that

• Look at the Danish Lady even with so much ink on her body, she has a big heart to support and care for kids 'tattooless people' have abandoned... Lets stop judging people by their appearance!

Now the multiplier effect of this company will mean more steel consumption and metallurgy for Nigeria, more foundries and most importantly, a practical approach to education and research.

.............my guy this is really sad, wicked, callous and terrible, it is better to be very discreet when arriving Nigeria, keep all your arrival details, movements, plans etc away from everybody, dont trust anybody whether family members or friends, l have learnt my lessons in a bitter way, l never inform anybody of my arrivals and departure from Nigeria, l dont trust anybody whether family members, Imam, pastor, babalawo, friends or anybody, Nigeria is becoming more of a den of killers due to the abject poverty in the land

What you said is true bro! I move in and out like a ghost..they always ask 'when did you come back' or 'we heard you're around'

But in this case, if she had not told her family members she was arriving, this hideous looking murderers would have gotten away with this! They could easily have claimed she didn't arrive Nigeria or she was kidnapped.

All in all, trust no one! They stories we read everyday on NL sends shivers down my spine... What a world

You guys are not serious. People are praying for the opportunity you have and you are there complaining about not getting feeding allowance. If you indeed value the opportunity you have been given, you will look for part time Jobs and face the school and come out with good results so that your time there won't be a total waste. As for the crooked NDDC guys that have obviously pocketed the allowance, well done o, EFCC will soon Com visiting.

Look at this one spewing thrash out of ignorance... Life as you hear it from someone is different from reality on the ground when you travel abroad! Know that...

@OP, ignore her and her likes. Just because they don't travel, they don't know what obtains outside the shores of Nigeria.

Apart from tuition fees being paid, 2 essentials students need are Accommodation and Feeding. How do you concentrate when you are not sure of where you'll sleep or what you'll eat tomorrow. UK is not like naija where students can open kiosk in the hostel or sleep in night classes. To start with, accommodation there is about 300k a month (speaking for a friend who's there)

Yes, getting a part time job is good, but have you thought of the effects on his academics? How many hours will he work to get enough to pay 300k house rent and won't his academics suffer? For someone that said he worked n schooled comfortably, it was probably an arts related course not a mentally demanding 1yr master course in a science field.

In conclusion. OP. I understand your plight, hopefully through this forum, your demands would be heard and met.

Politics / Pakistani Teen Amputates Himself For Blasphemy by Maikey: 4:47pm On Jan 19, 2016
Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN)

A Pakistani teenager cut off his hand after a Muslim cleric wrongly accused him of blasphemy, a local police chief told CNN.

Mohammad Anwar, a 15-year-old from Hujra Shah Muqeem, a village in Punjab province about 120 kilometers (75 miles) southwest of Lahore, was being hailed as a hero by locals for his actions, Station House Officer Nausher Ali, the local police chief, told CNN.

Media reports in Pakistan also identified the teenager.

Ali said the incident took place Wednesday after the boy misheard the words of cleric Shabbir Ahmed during a sermon.

Ahmed had asked those present to raise their hands if they did not love the Prophet Mohammed, the police chief said, and the teen had mistakenly raised his hand.

Ahmed accused him of blasphemy, and the teen responded by going home, cutting off his hand and presenting it to the cleric on a plate, Ali said.

Police arrested the cleric -- accusing him of hate speech inciting violence, an offense under Pakistan's anti-terror National Action Plan -- once they learned about what happened, Ali said.

The teen, by contrast, had gained a hero's status among locals, the police chief said, adding that the boy's father was proud of his actions.
