A Met spokesman said last night: “The Met is aware that the officer has since appeared on the show without authority. The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and will be carrying out an investigation into the circumstances.

“The Met does not support the officer’s appearance nor does she represent the Met whilst appearing on the show.

“All officers have a duty to behave with professionalism and in a manner that does not bring the Met into disrepute whether on or off duty.

“Those who do not behave professionally risk breaching police standards of professional behaviour, and may be dealt with by way of misconduct proceedings.”

A hospital has apologised after a surgeon put a left knee joint into a patient’s right knee.

The unnamed patient was having surgery to replace their right knee joint at St Albans City Hospital in Hertfordshire earlier this year.



But a bungle meant that the implant used was one designed specifically for a left knee.

The so-called ‘never event’ was revealed this week – and now bosses at the hospital have changed its policy to ensure that both the surgeon and scrub nurse check implants before they are fitted.

The patient has not had corrective surgery, but their progress is being monitored.

Mike van der Watt, medical director of West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said: “The prostheses for left and right are very similar and therefore it was decided that the prosthesis should remain in situ. We have formally apologised to the patient.’

A MARRIED Dzivaresekwa man impregnated his lover’s 16-year-old daughter.

Luckmore Pongozani, 33, has been dating a 42-year-old single mother at the same time with her daughter who is in Form Two.

The daughter has since stopped attending school, eloped and was returned to her mother’s residence after Luckmore was arrested over illegally selling diesel.



Luckmore who is expected to appear in court today over illegally selling diesel is the one who disclosed his shenanigans with his lovers daughter.

In an interview with H-Metro, the single mother shared the story with fury and bitterness.

“I am still to believe how my daughter was lured into having sex with Luckmore when she was aware of my affair with him.

“It is unfortunate that Luckmore is behind bars I wanted to ask him why he decided to have protected sex with me when he was after having a baby.



“I discovered that my daughter is pregnant on the 15th of August this year and when I confronted her she denied it at first.

“I then told Luckmore that my daughter was pregnant and was not aware of the person who impregnated her that is when he confessed to me saying he is responsible.

“It was hard to believe until my daughter admitted that it is true. I still have a lot of questions to ask Luckmore, why he betrayed me in that manner I want to know why he did what he did, what pains me the most is that he has infected my daughter with HIV.

“I have been dating Luckmore for three years now and my daughter knew about my affair with him but chose to date him behind my back. I am a vendor but I made sure she goes to school, I provide everything for her but she does not appreciate it instead, she backstabs me.

“His family is aware and he has instructed his sister to look after my daughter since he is in remand, but the sister asked me to keep her for a while because she has not settled yet since she recently gave birth.

“The situation at home is very tense I have been providing for my daughter despite the fact that she has wronged me,” said the single mother.

Speaking to H-Metro, Luckmore’s sister Abigail Pongozani admitted that her brother had impregnated a minor whereas in love with the mother.

“What my brother has done is unacceptable.



“He has wronged his lover by impregnating her daughter. I knew that he was having an affair with the single mother although he is married but did not imagine him going after the daughter of his lover.

“He confessed on his deeds when I visited him in prison and instructed me to look after the girl but I talked to the mother to take her in since I am still finding my feet from giving birth,” said Abigail.

Poor planning by the Zimbabwe government has resulted in the country facing dwindling fuel supplies.

For the past two weeks there have been long, winding queues countrywide. The most affected are motorists with petrol-driven engines.



At a queue that stretched for a kilometre in Bulawayo’s central business district,  Charles Moyo told TimesLIVE on Wednesday morning that he had spent the greater part of his night waiting for fuel.

Black market dealers have resurfaced. However, their fuel is only sold in hard currencies.

“We smuggle it from Botswana because there is less red tape compared to Beitbridge. We only take dollars, pulas and rands. For a litre of petrol we charge R20,” said a dealer. In SA petrol costs around R15 per litre.

In an interview on Tuesday night with private radio station ZiFM, finance minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said the reason behind the current shortage was because government failed to raise foreign currency on time.

“We are aware of the hitches in the fuel supply on the market and this has to do with timing in terms of payments and supply of the commodity,” he said.

Government sources said there was less than a week’s supply of fuel and signs of the acute shortage were already showing with some big service stations in Harare going for days without the precious liquid.

Ncube said the last quarter of the year is the lowest period of forex earning for the country as such things are bound to be tight. “This last quarter of the year, every year is the time for forex shortage in the normal cycle of foreign currency earnings for the country,” he said.

Zimbabwe gobbles between 120 million and 140 million litres of fuel a month and requires a monthly allocation of $100m (R1.38bn).

A 54-year-old man was arrested Monday morning for allegedly raping a bedridden woman, aged 74, in a Bangkok squatter community in the middle of November.

Police said Sombat Tonwong, had allegedly raped the elderly woman during the night of November 17,Thailand Nation reports.

The victim’s 37-year-old daughter filed a police complaint against Sombat with the Tha Rua Police Station on November 20.

The daughter told police that she had noticed her mother’s troubled state of mind and pressed her for the reason. The mother then told her about the November 17 sexual attack.

Sombat was arrested under an arrest warrant issued by the South Bangkok Court on November 22.

Police said Sombat was arrested in Kanchanaburi’s Saiyok district.

Police said the accused was taking drugs with the victim’s son-in-law at the victim’s home at the time of the incident.

Some armed robbers on Sunday night allegedly invaded the paediatric unit of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and stole three new born babies and some cash.

The robbers, numbering about 10, also reportedly stole mobile telephones and beat up the nurses on duty as well as nursing mothers and pregnant women in an operation that eyewitnesses said lasted for less than 10 minutes.

A nursing mother, Mrs Helen Eteng, said the incident did not last up to 10 minutes.

It was gathered from health workers and patients, who were victims of the robbery attack, that the robbers did not wear masks, were well armed and easily gained entry into the maternity section, and moved from bed to bed to pick up the babies.

Nurses and other health workers were seen discussing the incident in hushed tones on Monday morning.

A nurse seen consoling a sobbing nursing mother narrated to journalists what happened but pleaded not to be named.

She said,

“Yesterday (Sunday) night, several armed robbers gained access to this (paediatric) unit. They came with guns and machetes. They beat up my colleagues and some nursing mothers. They took away some babies and money from the patients and nursing mothers.

“The security in this hospital has been very porous. Lives of patients, nurses and doctors are at risk. There is nowhere in this hospital that is safe. There is so much stealing going on. Visitors are no longer controlled. People troop into the wards without any check. Many, including thieves, come in the guise of being patients’ relatives.

“Hospital properties are stolen frequently, while electricity supply is a big challenge in the hospital, because the diesel and generator parts are stolen frequently by the workers and armed robbers.”

It was gathered that the personnel of private security firms and regular policemen had for some months now withdrawn their services to the hospital over non-payment of their salaries by the management of the health institution several months.

The Japanese Government minister in charge of major changes to a key cyber security law has admitted he rarely uses a computer.Yoshitaka Sakurada made the revelation while being questioned by a lower house parliamentary committee.

Asked if he used a computer, Mr Sakurada appeared confident as he replied that he did not.

“I’ve had my own business since I was 25 years old and I’ve been instructing my employees and secretaries,” he said.
“So I don’t touch a computer.”

Mr Sakurada is responsible for revising a key cyber security law, part of which will facilitate intelligence sharing between government agencies and private companies.

He said he was confident that cyber security challenges would be tackled by the Government as a whole and that he was blameless.

Independent MP Masahito Imai was stunned.
“I can’t believe a person who has never touched a computer is responsible for cyber security,” he said.

Mr Sakurada is also the minister responsible for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A young boy who was only running some errands for his mother, has fallen right inside a well in Kano state. 

Saifilahi Isa, a 12-year-old boy, on Tuesday, drowned in a well in Bagadawa Community in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, NAN reports.

The spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Wednesday that the incident occurred at about 3:08pm.

He said Isa was sent by his mother to go and fetch water in the well.

“We received a distress call on Tuesday evening from our division at Dawanau at 3:08pm that a boy had fallen into a well.

”On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at 3:25pm.

“Isa was rescued unconscious and was conveyed to Dawakin Tofa General Hospital where he was confirmed dead,” Mohammed said.

He advised parents who had wells in their homes to raise their heights and provide covers for same to protect children.

The Aviation Round Table Safety Initiative (ART) says the Federal Government’s approval of providing firearms to Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel will enhance the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) in the country.



The President of ART, Mr Gbenga Olowo, made said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, recently announced that the AVSEC officials at the airports would start bearing arms within the next three months.

Olowo said the primary objective of AVSEC was the protection and safety of passengers, crew, ground personnel, aircraft and facilities serving the civil aviation.

He, however, noted that the participation of other security agencies in the sector for the same purposes was inevitable.

Olowo said: “Consequent to this approval, we strongly advise a review of the airport security architecture to cover elements of the various security agencies which will now form the new organogram.

“This will eliminate inter-agency rivalry, foster cooperation, provide common platform to asses measure of effectiveness, process operational effectiveness and after-action plans.’’

He, however, advised that the other security agencies should administratively remain under their parent agencies under the operational command and control of the new Airport Security Architecture.”

He further advised the government to ensure that selected personnel to bear arms were properly trained and tested in rudiment areas of arms handling, standard armoury and trained armourer for safekeeping of ammunition.

According to him, necessary procedure for issuance, retrieval and accountability of expended rounds if necessary, should also be put in place.

“In the 90s, we delegated and rotated the heads of security agencies serving in the airports to supervise and control night operations which is akin to the United States Transportation Security Agency (TSA) model.

“Security threats have evolved and we as a nation are challenged to find the nexus and best-fit security architecture, as our security challenges cannot be the same with other nations.”

A nursing attendant, Fatima Suleiman, who allegedly sold a new born baby’s placenta for N20,000 to an Islamic cleric, Salaudeen Ibrahim, on Thursday said she had not been paid for the transaction before she was arrested.



In an interview with journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the nursing attendant, who worked at Capstone Hospital, Taiwo Road, Ilorin, said the cleric asked her to get the placenta for him.

The nursing attendant said that she was a friend to Ibrahim’s wife and that the cleric asked her to get the placenta about two months ago.

The cleric asked me to get it (placenta). I succeeded in getting one just last week. It’s my first time of engaging in it. He has not given me any money yet, neither did he promise me a certain amount of money. He didn’t tell me what he wanted to use it for,” she stated.

On his part, Ibrahim confessed that he wanted to use the placenta for a money ritual, adding that he inherited the ritual practise from unnamed persons.

He alleged that Suleiman had approached him for a charm to enable her curry people’s favour in her dealings with them.

“She (Ibrahim) told me that she heard that people were using placenta to make charms to curry people’s favour. I said it was true. That was the last I heard from her until she brought the placenta

A Japanese office worker was charged, butted and bitten by a wild boar while on his way to his local train station.



Japanese media said the 48-year-old salaryman was walking to Imajuku Station in the suburbs of the city of Fukuoka at 7 a.m. on October. 26 when the boar suddenly charged him from an alley.

The incident was caught on a video that has since gone viral. The video, posted on Twitter, by @Koki915N, has already been viewed more than 3 million times.

Local media said the train station is around half a mile from the mountains and the boar is believed to have wandered into town from the foothills. After running into a dead-end between a pharmacy and a chain-link fence, the animal made a dash for freedom, upending the commuter, before biting him, goring him with its tusks and even going after his briefcase.

Two passing cars honked their horns in hopes of frightening the animal away.

The man was taken to hospital where he was treated for wounds on both legs, including a gash on his left thigh that needed eight stitches and one on his right knee that needed five stitches, the daily Mainichi Shimbun reported.

The boar was spotted later that day near the coast and killed by members of a local hunting club.

Only days after that attack, a man on a motorbike collided with a boar at night at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, breaking bones in four fingers.

Fukuoka Prefecture suffers considerable crop damage due to wild boars, and the local government is working with local hunters to cull 1 500 boars a year, but usually falls short of that target due to budget restrictions and a lack of hunters.

But when Japanese media reported that two boars had fallen into a dry reservoir in Kitakyushu in the same prefecture last month, the local government was surprised to be inundated with hundreds of calls asking for them to be rescued rather than killed. The boars were duly rescued and released back into the wild.

A gunman killed 12 people including a sheriff's deputy after he walked into a Southern California bar and started shooting late on Wednesday night, police said.



The gunman was also killed, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean told a news conference early on Thursday, though it was not immediately clear by whom.

An unknown number of people were wounded during the attack at the Borderline Bar and Grill, a country & western venue in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks.

"It's a horrific scene in there," Dean said. "There is blood everywhere and the suspect is part of that."

Officials said shots were still being fired when the first officers arrived at the scene.

The dead officer was identified as Sergeant Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran of the department, Dean told reporters. Helus and a California Highway Patrol officer were the first to arrive at the bar and went inside just before 11:30 p.m. PST (0730 GMT).

After a lull of about 15 minutes, more officers went inside and found the suspected gunman dead of a gunshot wound. It was not clear whether he killed himself or was killed by officers, Dean said.

It was the latest mass shooting to rock the United States, six days after the death of two women at a yoga class in Tallahassee, Florida and 12 days after an anti-Semitic gunman entered a synagogue in Pittsburgh and killed 11 worshippers.

President Donald Trump, who has resisted a surge in calls for tougher gun controls since 17 students were shot dead at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida earlier this year, said on Twitter that he had been "fully briefed on the terrible shooting in California."

Witness John Hedge told ABC News he was near the front door of the California bar when the shooting began. "I just started hearing these big pops. Pop pop pop," he said. "There was probably three or four. I hit the ground. I look up. The security guard ... was shot, he was down. The gunman was throwing smoke grenades all over the place. I saw him point to the back at the cash register and he just kept firing."

Dean estimated that 10 to 15 people, including one with a gunshot wound, had gone to area hospitals. He said he thought their injuries were minor, and that most of them were likely injured as they escaped, some by breaking windows.

"There were people hiding in restrooms, people hiding in attics," Dean said.

Dean said that the shooter had a handgun and that at this early stage in the investigation he believed he had only one gun. Witnesses described a rapid sequence of shots that it made them think he was using a semi-automatic weapon.

Thousand Oaks was named the third-safest city in the United States for 2018 by the website Niche.

"I’ve learned it doesn’t matter what community you’re in," Dean told reporters when asked if he was surprised this happened in Thousand Oaks. "It doesn’t matter how safe your community is. It can happen anywhere."

Taylor Von Molt, 21, told CNN that the shooter was wearing what looked like a bandana and a hoodie and was a burly man.

She said she was part of a group of line dancers that met at the bar for a college night every Wednesday.

None of the civilian victims were identified. Helus died while being treated at an area hospital several hours after he was shot, Dean said.

Fascinating statistics

In a study published in 2000, researchers set out to find out the perfect dating duration for a happy marriage. They followed the lives of 168 couples and documented their findings. The researchers discovered that those who dated an average of 25 months were still happily married 14 years later.



The study also looked into couples who did not date for very long. Those who got married after dating for 18 months were more likely to stay married for seven years. However, many of them got divorced after that.

A recent study also found that dating for longer than 2 years could be the key to a happy marriage. Couples who were together for three or more years before marriage were 39 percent less likely to get divorced. This is when compared to those who dated for less than a year. And those who got to know each other for two years before the wedding were 20% less likely to have a failed marriage.



Based on this study, the longer you wait before getting married, the more likely you are to have a satisfactory union.

There are exceptions to the rule

Here’s the thing, you do not have to hang your hat on statistics. While it’s interesting to learn what the numbers say, it does not mean it has to apply to you. If both partners have a clear understanding of what they are looking for in a mate, dating for at least a year is probably all you need.

How long you should date before marriage is more about your state of mind than it is about the number of months.

The American Heart Associating in a study carried out recently, has said that consuming just one energy drink may be detrimental to blood vessel function.



The study, according to medicalnewstoday.com, tested blood vessel function in non-smoking, young, healthy adults and found that the participants had significantly diminished blood vessel function soon after consuming just the one energy drink.

Consumption of these drinks has previously been associated with adverse health effects including conditions related to the nerves, heart, and stomach. Some researchers think adverse effects on the cardiovascular system may be associated with the effects the drinks have on endothelial function.

To investigate, John Higgins from the University of Texas Health Science Centre at Houston and colleagues recruited 44 healthy, non-smoking individuals, all in their 20s and tested their endothelial function before they had consumed an energy drink. They then gave the participants a 24-ounce energy drink and tested the endothelial function again 90 minutes after they had taken it.

The team checked the participants’ artery flow-mediated dilation, a measurement that indicates the overall health of blood vessels. Before the drink was consumed, the blood vessel dilation was an average of 5.1 per cent in diameter, but after the drink had been consumed, this measurement fell to 2.8 per cent, which indicated acute impairment of endothelial function.
