While Anioma’s historical and cultural arguments are compelling, it is important to recognize a hard national truth: not every LGA or ethnic group in Nigeria can be granted statehood. If every group that feels marginalized were given a state, Nigeria would fragment into hundreds of micro-states, creating more bureaucracy, duplication of governance, and endless boundary disputes.
The federation must weigh state creation not only on identity but also on economic viability, administrative sustainability, and national cohesion. What Anioma and other groups truly need is equity in resource allocation, fair representation, and constitutional reforms that guarantee justice, not just multiplying states endlessly. |

If you see a disabled man ? or a widow or widower who did not even work enough to receive a pension You can give them cards to redeem food (only food grown and harvested inside Nigeria by local farmers). Each person has to given on NIN identification basis and only a certain quantity per week (Just enough to eat) This helps in 2 ways-Prevents looting by state government of these funds, also boost local farmers, produce sales. Local farmers in turn can trade these vouchers for subsidized fertilizers, seeds, tractor rentals etc This is just rough algorithm...It can be fined tuned so that their is no leakage and the system runs itself, with minimal corruption or looting. |

amaridigital: My bros hunger no hear grammar oh. FG has been releasing loans upon loans, fertilizer upon fertilizers, tractors, equipments for decades yet what was the result? Foreign rice was double the price of local ones but immediately the FG gave billions to Rice farmers through Anchor borrowers program which wasn't paid back, the farmers magically increased food prices by 300%. Are we even sufficient in any food production no. FG is still in the business of supporting farmers but i think the fraud and abuse going on in the Agric sector is worst than the oil sector before the removal of oil subsidy. I know obedients are mad because food prices are coming down for they would rather see Nigerians go through high food inflation to justify their hatred for the president. After all, one of them changed the color of naira suddenly in the wake of an election and put millions of people in suffering just to stop the same man from winning the election. They are ultimately happy to see millions of Nigeria perish just to say "We said so" than to see people happy. Farmer's Association should put their house in order and stop hoarding food to create artificial scarcity. It's even. I fully support the Government to flood the market with imported food each time food producers are hoarding food stuffs I agree with you that the rot in the oil and gas sector has now shifted to the agricultural sector. But thats why we have a government, they should sanitize the agriculture system, they should brainstorm and bring out solutions that will get the grassroots, they should share redeemable vouchers instead of cash. If not all the effort invested into the oil and gas system will just be a waste as the agricultural sector will loot all the money saved from oil and gas subsidy removal |

Foreign Affairs › United Nations Declares "Israel Is Committing Genocide In Gaza" by malali(op): 9:24am On Sep 16, 2025 |
Israel’s war in Gaza amounts to genocide, the United Nations has formally assessed for the first time.
In a detailed 72-page report, the UN concludes that Israel is committing genocide as defined by the 1948 Genocide Convention and is waging its campaign with “intent” – a crucial element of the crime that is the hardest to prove.
“The Commission finds that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza,” said Navi Pillay, Chair of the UN Commission set up to investigate war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories.
“It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.”
The report was published by the UN’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory which has been tracking events in Gaza since the October 7 massacre two years ago in which 1,200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage.
The UN’s has determined that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza as defined by the 1948 Genocide Convention It concludes that Israel has “committed four of the five genocidal acts defined by the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, namely killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the destruction of the Palestinians in whole or in part, and imposing measures intended to prevent births”.
The commission found no evidence of the forcible removal of children – the fifth genocidal act listed in the 1948 convention.
Although individuals working for the UN have accused Israel of genocide in Gaza previously, this is the first time the supranational body has issued a formal assessment of genocide.
The release of the commission’s finding came as Israel reportedly launched a new ground invasion targeting Gaza City, a month after Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, ordered the military to seize the territory’s largest urban centre.
The new offensive, reported by Axios, coincides with mounting international pressure on Israel to end the almost two-year war. Several counties, including Britain, are set to recognise a Palestinian state this month.
The report will cause outrage in Israel which maintains the war in Gaza is a war of “self-defence” and therefore legal. It will also be rejected by the US and possibly other UN Security Council members, including Britain.
The UN Commission found Israel had caused ‘starvation’ by blocking humanitarian aid Credit: EYAD BABA/AFP via Getty Images In a letter published earlier this month, David Lammy, the then Foreign Secretary, noted that the crime of genocide requires intent to be proven said the British government had “not [at the time] concluded that Israel is acting with that intent.”
The UN’s assessment will bolster the case brought by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel for genocide by providing it with added weight and evidence.
“This is significant because the Commission of Inquiry has a standing in the international system,” said Dr Shane Darcy, deputy director and professor at the Irish Centre for Human Rights in the School of Law. “Other entities will take notice, including the International Court of Justice, where there are already proceedings [against Israel] underway”.
The UN Commission found Israel had “intentionally killed and seriously harmed an unprecedented number” of Palestinians; caused “starvation” by blocking humanitarian aid and “implemented a concerted policy to destroy the healthcare system of Gaza”.
Israel, like Hamas before it, had also committed “sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinians” including “rape, sexualised torture and forms of sexual violence” as part of “a pattern of collective punishment to fracture, humiliate and subjugate the Palestinian population in its entirety”, it said.
The Commission found that children were “deliberately and directly targeted by the Israeli security forces”, including during evacuation at shelters and food distribution sites.
It added that “children were shot by snipers and quadcopters, and some were killed while holding white flags.”
Palestinians inspect the scale of destruction after al-Ghafri Tower is completely destroyed as a result of the Israeli attacks on Gaza City The UN found that Israeli forces had deliberately targeted Palestinian children Credit: Hamza Z. H. Qraiqea/Anadolu via Getty Images The finding of “intent” will be most controversial. The Commission says this was established – not through a single document or confession – but that it was the “only reasonable inference” to be drawn from the totality of Israel’s statements and actions.
Statements made by the Israeli authorities, as well as the pattern of conduct of the Israeli military in Gaza, “are direct evidence of genocidal intent,” the Commission said.
Mr Netanyahu, Yoav Gallant, Israel’s former defence minister, and Isaac Herzog, its president, are all named in the report as having “incited the commission of genocide” in Gaza.
“The responsibility for these atrocity crimes lies with Israeli authorities at the highest echelons who have orchestrated a genocidal campaign for almost two years now with the specific intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza,” said Ms Pillay.
The application of “reasonable inference” as a legal standard to prove intent is certain to attract criticism from Israel and will be fiercely challenged if and when the case is eventually heard by the ICJ.
Ultimately, only the court and its panel judges can decide if a case of genocide has been proven or not.
Israel has refused to cooperate with the Commission, accusing it and its leader, Ms Pillay, of being “fundamentally biased” against the Jewish state.
Although today’s publication looks at events of the last two years, the Commission was first established in 2022 to look at Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories more widely.
The Commission’s chair, Ms Pillay, is a former high court judge best known for her work on International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda following the genocide there.
Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has devastated the coastal enclave and displaced the vast majority of the 2.1m Palestinians who live there Credit: Israel has attacked the United Nations throughout the current war, accusing its Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and other senior members of its organisations of bias and anti-Semitism.
Israel stopped cooperating with another of its arms – the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) – earlier in the war after alleging that it had been infiltrated by Hamas.
As of July 2025, 153 states, including Israel, have either ratified or acceded to the 1948 Genocide Convention, obliging them to act, and the Commission urged them to “employ all means reasonably available to them to prevent the commission of genocide in Gaza”.
It said member states should stop sending arms and other equipment to Israel that may be used to commit genocidal acts, and the controversial US-Israeli backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid sites in the south of the enclave should be shut down immediately, it added.
“The international community cannot stay silent on the genocidal campaign launched by Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” said Ms Pillay.
“Every day of inaction costs lives and erodes the credibility of the international community. All States are under a legal obligation to use all means that are reasonably available to them to stop the genocide in Gaza,” she added.
Over 66,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the outbreak of war, according to figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry which do not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
In August, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) – a globally recognised system for classifying the severity of food insecurity and malnutrition – confirmed for the first time that a famine was playing out in Gaza City, prompting international condemnation.
Separately, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Israel accused the authors of the UN Commission’s report of being “Hamas proxies” and dismissed its findings.
“The report relies entirely on Hamas falsehoods, laundered and repeated by others,” it said in a statement.
It added: “In stark contrast to the lies in the report, Hamas is the party that attempted genocide in Israel murdering 1,200 people, raping women, burning families alive, and openly declaring its goal of killing every Jew.
“Israel categorically rejects this distorted and false report and calls for the immediate abolition of this Commission of Inquiry.
“Three individuals serving as Hamas proxies, notorious for their openly antisemitic positions – and whose horrific statements about Jews have been condemned worldwide – released today another fake ‘report’ about Gaza.” Source: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/terror-and-security/israel-committing-genocide-in-gaza-un-commission-finds

Is APC intertwining federal funds with party funds ?
There is conflict of financial interest in one person being party chairman running the party and also sitting on the federal executive council with a budget allocated to him from federal allocation. |

Nigeria’s food crisis is not about orders from Abuja but about structural dysfunction. To solve it: 1. Input Subsidies That Work – Instead of expired fertilisers, directly fund cooperatives of verified farmers with vouchers redeemable only at accredited agro-dealers. 2. Mechanisation Now, Not Announcements – Release and decentralise tractor distribution immediately through state-level farmer associations with strict usage audits. 3. Import Discipline – End indiscriminate duty-free imports that cripple local farmers. Imports should only be a buffer stock, not a permanent policy. 4. Farm-to-Market Infrastructure – Subsidise rural transport (rail & road) and cold chain logistics to cut middleman extortion and wastage. 5. Purchasing Power Boost – Tie food subsidy cards directly to vulnerable households, so demand exists for local produce and farmers can sell at viable prices.
Without input access, mechanisation, market discipline, and demand support, Nigeria will keep importing its hunger. |
Politics › Re: Petrol Subsidy Removal Saved Nigeria From Bankruptcy — Emir Sanusi by malali: 5:58am On Sep 16, 2025 |
Your Highness, with due respect, the subsidy was never the root problem. What brought us to this edge of bankruptcy was not merely the subsidy itself, but the decades of looting, misappropriation, and fiscal indiscipline that drained our commonwealth.
The thieves of the subsidy system remain in power structures, and there are no guardrails today to prevent history from repeating. Mark my words: in less than a decade, Nigeria may again be forced into another people-hostile austerity measure just to stave off collapse. We are servicing a bloated government, multiplying the number of retired politicians who feel eternally entitled to public funds.
If subsidy thieves had been curtailed, Nigeria could have sustained fuel subsidy and still run essential state functions. What this nation has lacked is not money but good financial management and accountability.
Three years since subsidy removal, we still lack: • A single functional world-class refinery, • Diversified revenue streams (agriculture, tourism, tech), • Fair wage adjustments for civil servants (Bauchi still pays ₦30k).
So yes, it is fine to applaud the “fix,” but honesty requires we also name the real disease: Corruption, waste, and lack of visionary leadership. Without tackling that, every reform is a temporary bandage. |
