Idiko1: How does not being landlocked helped Nigeria? Landlocked nations are often at a disadvantage. This puts them in a position of being taken advantage of by neighboring nations with a coastline, and that can be rough. For example, Niger Republic has to go through either Nigeria or Benin Republic to get to the Atlantic Ocean. This gives these nations a lot of power over Niger republic, which compromises its sovereignty. Niger must, most of the times be subservient to Nigeria and Benin because of this, and any hostility would easily render its largest chunks of international trade blocked. |

Second of all, there is no rule against expansion. Our ancestors did it to progress and so can we
I pity the Babel republic of niger delta because they would be so easy to divide hence making them easy targets
Cry all you want, but know not one single teardrop will pass this nairaland forum
Anyways sha, you can call us onye dot for now due to the nonsense geopolitical, but when it is time for igbos to leave you will see Is this your map drawn by Portuguese explorers or by Nnamdi Kanu? He's the only 'freedom fighter' who doesn't seem to have a defined boundary for his 'nation.' Today he'll include Kogi people, tomorrow it'd be Benue and on the third day, ND people would say he's dreaming to have included them in his fraudulent schemes. This is the type of map you find hanged only in the offices of people like Abaribe and iPoBic sympathizers.

overall90: What is this one talking about? All these talk about access to sea,is it not because of commerce? abi you want to drink the sea water. Nobody is going to drink the sea water, but being landlocked matters, that's why you find Igbo separatists writing essays up and down claiming they're not landlocked. For one, oceans are vital for trade. It's a general rule that if you have the option to transport something by land or water, take the water route. Even with today's technology, it is much easier and much more cost-efficient to transport things by water than by land. This same logic extends to the transportation of people as well. Oceans make it much, much easier to move things from point A to point B. Any sort of transportation requires more time, effort, and money to accomplish. With oceans being so important, landlocked nations are often at a disadvantage. This puts them in a position of being taken advantage of by neighboring nations with a coastline, and that can be rough. For example, Bolivia has to go through either Chile or Peru to get to the Pacific Ocean. This gives these nations a lot of power over Bolivia. As a result, Chile and Bolivia have historically had a very sour relationship. Overall, being landlocked simply reduces the options that a nation has. They can't manage their own maritime trade deals, they must agree to tariffs and border taxes of neighboring nations, and they can't even build a navy. Are we starting to see how being landlocked can be a problem? |

Ofodirinwa: Country: Austria Land boardaries with Ocean: 0 Access to Sea: Danube River.
The country of Austria can only access the sea using the danube river.
Danube River Width: 200 meters at Vienna (Austria's capital) Niger River Width: 240 metres
Danube River Depth: 1 - 8 meters Niger River Depth: 30 meters
Trade Volume All of Nigeria: $10.4 billion a year Austria: $168.21 bn Access to the sea via rivers doesn't make you a maritime nation. If it were so, Zamfara state too is not landlocked. |

The Nairaland post below tries to argue that Igboland is not landlocked because like Austria, which accesses the sea through the Danube River, it can access the sea through the Niger. https://www.nairaland.com/6661918/igboland-landlocked-stop-arguing-proofFor the last time, Biafra irredentists should stop this concoctions and falsehoods that only them believe. Twist it whichever way you want, Igboland is landlocked. Landlocked simply means not being able to directly access the sea or oceans. If being able to access the sea through rivers makes a territory not landlocked, then no state in Nigeria, or any country in the world is landlocked. Igboland, like all interior states can only lay claim to being a maritime state in the context of Nigeria, and if the federating regions were assumed autonomous, Igboland would suffer a crippling economic strangulation for its historical failure to annex the Niger Delta states. And this, maybe, the SS states know, that's why they've always resisted all ploys and plots of the Igbo Biafrans to incorporate them in a state that only makes meaning to the Biafrans and would consign the ND maritime states to slavery.

Why do you always call on us to break Nigeria?
In fact, northern Nigeria it was that didn't want the union then, but you all want it. Why blame us for what you initially desired?
If you are sincere to yourself, as you claimed to be, call on Lord Lugard or Britain to break it up, not any northerner or northern Niger Area. |

Big Harry lets you make all the noise, but as many great Nigerians, including him have said: all impostors, secret agents and proxy fighters are like dots held by Nigeria's circular gravitational forces.

mancoconut: It all goes back in full circle to the same old Igbophobic sentiments other Nigerians unapologetically harbor, when Igbos point out these things, we're called all sorts of names including those who accuse us of always playing the victims. The breaking point for me was the much talked about send off burial ceremony for Obi Cubana's mother that got everybody (including the miserable losers who can't even take care of their own mums while they are alive) all taking the "high moral ground" on how a man and his wealthy associates/friends should spend their money, all because it's Igbos at the center of the attention.
Now here is the part that infuriates me about these self-loathing and hypocritical elements (we know their ethnic identity)
How's it cool for Yorubas to throw lavish owambe parties almost every weekend and sometimes they even block major streets and deny motorists accessibility because they are throwing a party, a typical yoruba man can spend all his life savings on Owambe parties and be broke the next day... but we don't see Igbos care much about or judge the yorubaas? the same yorubaas are the main instigators of these hateful campaign against Igbos all over social media platforms, they say the roads in Oba and Anambra aren't tarred despite all the billionaires blah blah blah... has Tinubu tarred or brought any developments to his Osun state or community in Iragbiji? have Mike Adenuga etc tarred all the terrible roads in Ogun state which ranks among the worst in the country? Where were all those yoruba billionaires during the last lockdown which exposed the profound poverty and hunger across the South West states? at least we saw wealthy Igbos empowering their people with palliatives during the last lock down... the hypocrisy of these people stinks to high heavens!
Lastly, Where were all these "social media moral advocates" on Igbo matter when the children of rich Northern politicians were posing in private jets and displaying mouth-dropping affluence during their Salah day celebrations? we saw all these Hausa kids drove about in super expensive cars in Abuja and doing car rodeos, all this happening even as the North stews in abject poverty and all forms of humanitarian disasters.
So because Obi Cubana (who didn't even spend 1/10th of his money) as the majority of money spent to celebrate with him were goodwill splurges and gestures from his friends and business associates whom he had helped to become successful at one point or another, that has now caused a stir everywhere with useless idiots now forming opinions on Igbos when they can't even feed and take care of their own family members... Truly the Igbos will always be the biggest threat to Nigeria. At least, if you're that rich, you should tar the roads near your houses, even if government is not able to do it. You'll be criticized for not doing this when you claim to be a billionaire and is seen walking on an untarred roads near your house. Doesn't matter whether you're a Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa. |
