University of Nigeria, Nsukka is esperiencing some crisis which is about to escalate to a major destruction.
Since the inauguration of the new Vice Chancellor early last month, the school has not been conducive for the students. This has affected the boys hostels in particular.
Consequently, Power supply and water are the major issues on ground. For one week now, the school have experienced blackout(though generators work sometimes in the night). Water supply has been fluctuating for a while now.
That notwithstanding, amongst the three boys hostels(alvan, eni-njoku, and mbanefo hall), the school authorities have asked the occupants of mbanefo hall to vacate the hall with immediate effect.
However, the crisis initiated saturday night(19th) when post graduate students beat an undergraduate student who has said to have fetched water from their tap mercilessly. According to what blog gathered, that is not the first time such thing has happened. During the world cup finals, it was reported that the said post graduate students beat another undergraduate student for watching the match with them.
All these accumulated grievances have surfaced yesterday night when the undergraduate students started their revolution. Some of the students entered inside the school for protest while the rest stayed back to fight the post graduate students. They broke their cars, hostel glasses, hostel gate amongst others, while the students that went inside the school ended up in shutting down all the power generators in school.

The school security tried to intervene, but the student's forces outwitted theirs.
This crisis is still ongoing this morning as the undergraduate students are still agitating to do more.
Currently the army from Nsukka barracks have arrived school to calm the situation.

The deportees reportedly arrived in the country on board an Ethiopian Airline plane at about noon.

Mr Daniel Obot, the Assistant Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), told newsmen at the Airport that the deportees were part of the 508 Nigerians residing illegally in Saudi Arabia.

He said the Federal Government approved their repatriation after they voluntarily agreed to return home, adding that they would be handed over to officials of their State Emergency Management Agency after due clearance.

Also speaking to newsmen, the Director Consular and Immigration Services in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Abdulazeez Dan-Kano, said the 80 deportees were from eight states of the country.

Dan-Kano said that 31 of the deportees are from Kano State, 19 from

Borno, three from Bauchi State and eight from Jigawa.

Similarly, he said that seven of the deportees are from Yobe, two from Plateau, nine from Katsina State and one from Nasarawa State.

Dan-Kano said that those deported were mainly women, children and the sick.

He said that more deportees were expected to arrive in the country on Thursday.

Dan Kano said that the deportees indicated their interest to return to Nigeria following a November deadline issued by the Saudi Authorities for all illegal immigrants to leave the country.

He said that 951 other Nigerians arrested by the Saudi authorities were being held in a camp in the country, and that they would return home at the instance of the Saudi government.

Enugu State Governor, Sullivan chime has been quoted to have said that he would resign as governor even if the constitution was amended beyond 2015 to contest for the senate position of Enugu West under the platform of People’s Democratic Party in the state.The governor allegedly made the assertion during a courtesy visit of members of Enugu Unity forum, a non political organization at the government house, Enugu, saying that he wants to teach the serving national assembly members how to wind down, since they could not do that on their own.The governor allegedly received the Forum behind closed doors at the government house where he declared to run for the senatorial position of Enugu West, since the earlier agreement in the state of those that have served for two terms or more at the national and state assemblies to step aside for new entrants did not go down with some of them.According to him, “since a good number of them were allegedly agitating and indirectly resisting the earlier accord at the state PDP caucus, I want to teach them how to wind down, even if it means dropping the governorship, I can risk it to contest the senatorial position”, he explained.The governor allegedly expressed surprised that the members of the national assembly can forget so soon a written agreement that nobody should go beyond two terms in the national and state assemblies.Since some of them were charting another dimensions to the agreement, and could not wind down on their own, I will teach them how to wind down by running for the senatorial position of Enugu West, even if the constitution was amended beyond 2015, I will resign as Enugu State governor to contest for the 2015 Enugu West Senatorial position, he noted.Earlier the national president, Enugu Unity Forum, Mr. Tahill Ochi, expressed satisfaction with chime for maintaining his earlier promise of shifting the 2015 Enugu guber to Enugu North Senatorial Zone.Mr. Ochi applauded Chime on infrastructural development, education, peace and security in the state, explaining that the state has enjoyed a clear democratic transformation of the governor’s four point agenda, than what was obtained in the past administrations in the state.In a vote of thanks at the parley the national secretary, Dr. Chuka Ezema who later briefed Vanguard exclusively, noted that the life achievement of Chime in Enugu State was peace and security which clearly brings back memories of the state as a Coal City in the South-East and South-South geo-political zones in the country.Dr. Ezema said that the stand point of the governor on Enugu North Senatorial zone to produce the PDP candidate for 2015 was a manifestation of honesty of the state PDP caucus meeting for the governed.He explained, that “the Enugu Unity Forum is a non political organization with political interest and would use template formular to determine a credible candidate for Enugu North 2015 guber project”, he said.

Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila
The All Progressives Congress caucus in the House of Representatives on Monday said that it had “enough grounds” to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan but that was not in a hurry to do so.
The APC caucus said the time was not yet ripe to initiate impeachment against the President.
Minority Leader of the House, who is also the APC leader in the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, told The PUNCH that neither the caucus nor the entire National Assembly needed a directive from the APC national leadership to impeach the President.
He said lawmakers would monitor the President for now, hoping that he would amend his ways by addressing the allegations raised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his controversial letter.
Gbajabiamila said, “As for impeachment, there are enough grounds for impeachment of the President.
“The constitution says you need only one ground, but we have more than one ground already. So, the party (APC) does not have to give us a directive to impeach the President.
“Nobody wants to impeach the President, but we will continue to study the situation to see whether he will sit up.”
He added that the opposition was watching the Peoples Democratic Party closely to see whether it would impeach any of the five governors who defected to the APC recently.
“Particularly interesting is the case of Rivers State. We want to see how they will use five legislators to impeach a governor in that state,” he stated.
Gbajabiamila said the “opposition will respond in the most appropriate manner” should any of the defected governors lose their seat.
When contacted, the PDP caucus in the House warned that it would resist any move to discuss the impeachment of Jonathan at the House.
Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor, described such as “wishful thinking.”
He argued that the National Assembly would not contemplate impeaching the President because “one external group” said it should do so.
“Their call is even based on inconsequential issues that negate the spirit of the 1999 Constitution,” he said.
Ogor noted that Jonathan was elected by Nigerians, who could also opt to “impeach” him by refusing to return him to the Presidency in 2015.
Investigations showed that there was no formal communication between the national leadership of the APC and its members in the National Assembly on the issue.
Findings revealed that most APC lawmakers got to know of the directive to impeach Jonathan from the publication of the statement by their interim National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lai Mohammed, in some newspapers.
“Such a discussion has not taken place. We have not been contacted, or should I say, I am not aware. The party has not contacted us formally about the impeachment issue,” one APC member in the House confided in The PUNCH on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, on Monday said the Senate would not heed the call by the APC to commence impeachment proceedings against the President.
Enang warned the APC to “stop employing cheap blackmail to take over power through the back door.”
He said, “The National Assembly cannot heed the call of the APC or treat the content of former President Obasanjo’s letter.
“The letter from former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter was not addressed to the National Assembly.
“The issue of impeachment has not arisen. The issue of impeachment of the president has not at all arisen.”
