President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti appealed to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to the classrooms in the interest of their students. He made the appeal at the inauguration of the College of Engineering Complex at the Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti State. The three-storey college complex was also named after the President. Jonathan urged ASUU members to heed his appeal saying that whatever their grievances might be, keeping students out of school for four months was unpatriotic. “I once again appeal to the entire membership of ASUU to pause and ponder on the adverse effect of their action on the future of the vibrant youths of this great nation. “The collective destiny of tens of thousands of tomorrow’s leaders should not be held hostage to vagaries of labour disputes. “As long as we are humans, as long as we are a developing society, this labour dispute must come up. “I always say that even in the developed societies we hear about labour dispute; and there is no society, even the most developed, that has provided the facilities for every worker. The National Strike Coordinating Committee, NSCC, comprising of principal officers and Zonal Coordinators of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU will be meeting Saturday to take stock of the ongoing strike embarked by the union that is entering the fourth months. Meantime, ASUU said that it was not under any pressure to call-off the strike despite what it called sponsored protests and rallies against the union, stressing that before the union decided to embark on the strike, it holistically took objective assessment of the situation. One of the branch Chairmen of ASUU and member of NSCC who spoke exclusively to Saturday Vanguard on the condition of anonymity said that the meeting will take place in Ondo state and that there would be a situation report including the meeting representatives of ASUU had with the Federal government last week's Friday. He said,"We are meeting tomorrow, National Strike Coordinating Committee. Tomorrow is arrival. Our Principal officers and Zonal Coordinators met with government last week Friday, one week today, so we want to discuss the outcome of the meeting, after that we will now meet." Commenting on the plethora of protests by different groups over the strike which could be mounting pressure on the union to call off the strike, he said that "There is no pressure on us. We look at things objectively and remember that even me as I am talking we cannot suspend the strike. "We have to get inputs from the branches that is why our strike is always very tight, because before we declared the strike, we have collected inputs from all branch officers in the universities in Nigeria, we collated it, discussed it extensively for two days before we declared the strike. "And if there is any offer made by government, we have to look at it, that is the principal officers ten of them in number, the zonal coordinators who take over functions of NEC during the strike, so, they will look at what government has offered, brief us the branch chair persons then it is at this point we will now know whether to convene an emergency NEC to look at it holistically. "By the time they are briefing us, they will also ask us to brief our committee members and take the issue to the congress, it is not a one man show, all these ones they are talking about politics it is not true, the process right from the least of all the lecturers to the highest that is the professor from each branch, we collate all their responses, it is only when they advice us to suspend that we suspend, it is not just one man show." He explained that during strike situation, the National Strike Coordinating Committee comprising of principal officers and zonal coordinators always take over the functions of NEC, adding, "every single week, the zonal coordinators will take the information to the various branches who will now take the information to congress, collating information from congress, the branch chairman will take it back to the zonal coordinator, the zonal coordinator takes it back to NSCC, the reason is that NEC has the larger component, we are many." He said that the reason behind allowing the smaller number of officers to meet during strike situation was to cut cost. "Why NEC cannot meet during the strike is because of cost, we are more in number. In NEC we have over 100 people, but NSCC will be between 10 and 20, so it is manageable, we have a channel of communication." All attempts made to call the National President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge failed as he neither picked calls put across his GSM line nor replied the text message sent to him. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/ASUU-meet-strike-says-pressure/ like our facebook page for latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/ |
Roboticists Rich Walker and Matthew Godden of Shadow Robot Co. in England led the assembly of the bionic man from prosthetic body parts and artificial organs. According to them, "He walks, he talks and he has a beating heart, but he's not human". "Our job was to take the delivery of a large collection of body parts — organs, limbs, eyes, heads — and over a frantic six weeks, turn those parts into a bionic man," Walker told LiveScience during an interview. But it's not as simple as connecting everything like Tinkertoys. "You put a prosthetic part on a human who is missing that part," Walker said. "We had no human; we built a human for the prosthetic parts to occupy." However, The robot, which cost almost $1 million to build, was modeled in some physical aspects after Bertolt Meyer, a social psychologist at the University of Zurich, in Switzerland, who wears one of the world's most advanced bionic hands. THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday warned the Abubakar Baraje faction of the party that it will no longer tolerate any meeting, press statements or utterances under its name, flag and colour by any unauthorised persons or groups. In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, after the judgment of a Federal High Court upholding the leadership of the Bamanga Tukur faction, the party emphasised that it has “only one duly elected National Executive Committee under the chairmanship of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.” The party warned: “We wish, therefore, to state with all emphasis that any group of persons parading themselves as leaders of this organ of our party are impostors and must be treated as criminals by all and sundry. “Henceforth, the leadership of the PDP will no longer tolerate or condone any meeting, utterances, press statements and/or activities whatsoever under the name, flag and colour of the PDP by any unauthorised person or group(s) under any guise,” the statement said. The party recalled that it had remained calm “in the face of the unwarranted attacks of the last few months. Our leaders chose the path of caution and decorum, but our reconciliatory moves and offer of olive branch were treated with the highest disdain and viewed as signs of weakness. “The National Working Committee has, therefore, directed that the name, colour, flag and the provisions of constitution of our party must be held sacrosanct by our members. The PDP has adequate internal mechanism for resolution of disagreements and members are advised to express their grievances through such.” But the leadership of the Kawu Baraje faction of the PDP countered that it would appeal the ruling of the Abuja Federal High Court and continue the usage of the party’s symbols. In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, the group said it would see the issue to a logical conclusion, including going to the Supreme Court if necessary, to ensure that “a non-member of our party does not continue to lord it over us as our National Chairman.” The faction urged Tukur and his loyalists not to celebrate yet “as any such celebration would be short-lived as we are more than ever determined to show him the way out of the exalted position he is illegally occupying. “We meanwhile insist that we have every right to continue using the PDP flag, symbol and colours, as we are bona fide members of the party and thus entitled to use them,” the statement noted. source: http://www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/component/k2/item/24264-pdp-vows-to-deal-with-new-pdp-leaders-%E2%80%A2the-battle-has-just-started,-baraje-tealls-tukur.html like our facebook page for latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/ |

Few minutes ago, Wizkid on his tweet revealed that Sesan, the producer of Davido's Skelewu video is also the producer of his Jaiye Jaiye video yet to be released. Davido some days ago claimed that he was not satisfied with the work Sesan did on his video after the release. Contrary to this, Wizkid said on his tweet that Jaiye Jaiye video is fantastic and was produced by Sesan. The question now is, "Is the Skelewu video problem really from the incompetency of the producer or lack of creativity of the artiste(Davido)? see Wizkid's tweet below source: http://..com/2013/10/wizkid-beefs-davido-over-sesan-skelewu.html

Some police inspectors and rank and file from the Imo State Police Command have threatened to go on strike over their redeployment to some violence-prone states in the North. The aggrieved policemen who met in Benin, the Edo State capital, said they would start the strike in November. But the Force headquarters has said that the redeployment will not be revisited or changed and warned the affected officers against blackmailing the police authorities. The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who was reacting to the threat of a strike by some policemen in Imo State Police Command, said that the Nigeria Police Force was a national organisation where police personnel could be deployed to serve in any part of the country. Mba, who spoke over the phone on Wednesday, described the reported threat by the policemen as a rumour, adding that the same rumour was peddled when some policemen were transferred out of Lagos. Some policemen that were redeployed to some northern states had threatened to embark on strike in November if their demands were not addressed. They were demanding the reversion of the mass transfer of officers numbering about 100 from the cadre of Inspectors, Assistant Superintendent of Police and the Chief Superintendent of Police to the troubled areas in the North. The officers alleged that their transfer which they described as punitive, was masterminded by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Katsina, adding that some of them had stagnated on a rank for many years without promotion. But Mba faulted the position of the protesting officers. He said that they could not choose where they would serve, noting that the policemen in the North had as much right as those in Imo State to serve in any part of the country. “The Nigeria Police Force is a national police, not a state civil service or a state police force. The implication is that you can be asked to serve in any part of the country, and as a police officer, you don’t have the right to choose where to serve or when to serve. It is a call to service. The benefits of being a police officer comes with the burden of discharging the responsibilities attached to being an officer and you can’t choose the benefits and reject the responsibilities,” he said. source: http://www.punchng.com/news/policemen-threaten-strike-over-transfer-to-troubled-states/ like our facebook page for latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/ |
The ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party members with the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee of the party, appear to have finally hit a brick wall. A hint of this emerged when Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, told a visiting All Progressives Congress delegation on Wednesday, that himself and the six other aggrieved PDP governors, might dump the PDP for the “warm embrace of the APC.” The other aggrieved governors otherwise known as rebel governors are prominent members of the New PDP led by Alhaji Abubakar Baraje. They are Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto). It was learnt on Wednesday that the National Vice-Chairman North-East of the APC, Umar Duhu, who led the delegation to the government residence in Yola, offered Nyako a piece of kola nut and an invitation in accordance with the northern tradition. The Director of Press to the Governor, Ahmad Sajo, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said Nyako expressed his desire and those of his colleagues to join the opposition APC as “soon as the situation in the PDP becomes unbearable.” Sajo said, “The governor told them he is committed to supporting them; he admires all the APC governors for the way they are focused in their performance. “He abhors the injustice and impunity that are going on in the PDP and he also frowns on the fact that someone would emerge as the party’s candidate at the local level and the PDP will change the name of the person in Abuja and submit a different person’s name.” He quoted the governor as saying, “These are the reasons (injustice and impunity) why we may have to dump the PDP, if they will not change their ways. “We may definitely be pushed to the warm embrace of the APC because there is so much injustice in the PDP. “It is a party which renders your efforts null and void after you have gone through the process and secured nomination; a system that takes over your property without giving you an opportunity to defend yourself for whatever infringement you may have committed. “The PDP operates a system that does not respect other people’s point of view; a system that operates on a pre-determined position on all matters is not healthy for democracy.” Earlier, Duhu had told the governor that they were at his residence after consultation with the APC leadership to formally invite him to join the party. Attempts to get a response from the PDP were futile as its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, neither picked his calls nor replied to a text message sent to his mobile phone. A phone call to his deputy, Alhaji Abubakar Jalo, indicated that his set was switched off. Meanwhile, information available to The PUNCH indicates that members of the New PDP have scheduled a series of meetings for Thursday(today) and Friday to prepare a unified response to the renewed clampdown on some of their colleagues by the Federal Government. A member of the faction, who was privy to one of such meetings, confided in our correspondent that the meetings had become necessary in the light of recent developments. The member, who spoke in confidence, said, “We have to meet to review our strategies; it has become obvious that the Tukur-led PDP is not interested in a peaceful resolution of this crisis.” source: punchng like our facebook page for latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/ |
Introduction: Following two meetings (on Thursday 19th Sept 2013 and Friday 11th Oct 2013) of representatives of the AVCNU (Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by CVC Chairman, Prof. Hamisu of ATBU) and ASUU Representatives (led by its President, Dr. Fagge) with the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arc. N. Sambo, Minister of Education Barr. N. Wike and others, all Vice-Chancellors have been urged to inform and enlighten academic and other staff on the following developments so that we can ensure a return to normalcy in our universities within the shortest possible time. Earned Allowances: The N30 billion already released will now be increased to N40 billion, and should be regarded only as first installment, and not a once-and-for-all payment. Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million, so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC. 2. NEEDS Assessment Capital Money: Government was cognizant and mindful of the ability of Universities to effectively/efficiently utilize the N100 billion fund immediately, hence that figure. However, in addition to this N100 billion dedicated and already to be made available for 2013, N200 billion (increased from N150 billion previously agreed) will now be earmarked in the 2014 Budget as well as each of the following three-four years until the Universities are brought to world-class standard. 3. Project Prioritization: Universities will now be allowed to determine their priorities and not be “rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of projects with respect to the NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be centralized. 4. TETFund Intervention: Government assured that the operations of the TETFund will not be impaired, and that the regular TETFund intervention disbursement to Universities will continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS assessment capital outlays are in addition to regular TETFund intervention. 5. IMC: A new Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDs ASSESSMENT intervention for universities has been set up to take over from the Suswan Committee. The new one is under the Federal Ministry of Education and chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education. In addition, to build confidence and ensure faithful implementation and prevent any relapse as before, the Vice President will meet quarterly with the IMC to monitor progress. 6. Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a blue print for revitalizing the Universities to the Vice President. 7. Official Agreement Document: A signed document would be issued very soon to itemize the full issues on which this present consensus outlined here, brokered by AVCNU, has been reached. 8. An Appeal to Call Off Strike: The Vice-President Sambo appealed to ASUU to call off the strike and apologized for the "take-it-or-leave-it" comments credited to the Hon Minister of Finance. All other parties present at the meetings also prevailed on the ASUU leadership to consult objectively with its members to get them to agree with what is now on the table and to call off the strike as soon as possible after the Sallah break of Tuesday/Wednesday October 15/16 2013. 9. ASUU President Responds: At both meetings, the President of ASUU thanked the VP for taking over negotiations and promised to consult with his ASUU Constituency. We keep our fingers firmly crossed, as we await both the official consensus agreement document and full ASUU reaction. Statesmanship from all sides is called for at this point in time. Dr. Chris Ngige is currently serving as a senator representing the anambra central senatorial district. No doubt, Dr. Ngige tried his best during his years as the governor of anambra state, notwithstanding he rigged the election. But in recent time as a senator, WHAT HAS HE ACHIEVED? Or is he still living on past glories? However, in second quarter of this year, he claimed to be behind the steady electricity supply in Awka. But Peter Obi consequently disputed the fact, saying that he was the one who seeked the favour from the FG. WHAT HAS HE DONE? Need your reply to be convinced. The World Football Governing Body, FIFA, has named GoalControl GmbH, a Germany-based company, the official Goal-line Technology (GLT) provider for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. A statement by FIFA on Friday said that the decision was taken following the successful implementation of GLT at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil. It said the company performed well during the FIFA Confederations Cup in April. “Today’s announcement follows an evaluation process in which the relevant departments within FIFA examined the use of GoalControl-4D during the FIFA Confederations Cup. “While there were no goal-line incidents in which the technology was required to determine whether a goal had been scored, the system met all necessary FIFA requirements. “It indicated every one of the 68 goals correctly. Importantly, there was also a high-level of satisfaction reported by match officials,” the statement said. It also disclosed that the GLT would be used at the FIFA Club World Cup slated for Dec. 11 to Dec. 21 in Morocco. “The use of GoalControl-4D in Morocco and Brazil will be subject to a final installation test at each stadium. It said that prior to every game, the match officials would also carry out their own tests, in-line with the operational procedures approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). According to the statement, FIFA will now liaise with GoalControl GmbH to define the timeline for installation leading up to each event. The GoalControl-4D system uses 14 high-speed cameras around the pitch. It confirms whether a goal has been scored automatically within one second by a vibration and visual signal on each match official’s watch. Karen Igho's PR team released a press statement today claiming that the BBA winner got breasts implants many years ago because of lumps found in her breasts - this is in reaction to a tweet from Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson's twitter handle during the twitter hacking brouhaha that occurred yesterday. See their press release below Sometime yesterday whilst preparing for her promo photo shoot, Karen and the World PR Media camp got wind of a tweet that was sent to our client, Karen Igho. Yvonne Nelson quoted as follows "fake boobs, no wonder you don't have a bf". When Karen got the alert, she made several personal gestures to clarify the position of the tweet and the tweetee, but none of the enquiries was answered and a claim of 'handle hacking' was implied by the Nelson camp. Just to update the Nelson team since we can't reach you, Karen's resort to breast implants were as a result of lumps found and removed in her breasts. And can you also be a good role model to your own younger fans by resisting online bullying or any other type of bullying for that matter. like our facebook page for latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/

Like all one-sided stories/write-ups, please read with an open mind. Bianka Johnson, who is kinda in the movie industry, today sent out something she wrote about how high life crooner Flavour and Morgan Ent. CEO Emeka Morgan, supposedly abandoned MC Loph's mother (pictured above with Bianca) after her son died in a tragic accident in 2011. Flavour and MC Loph were childhood friends while Emeka Morgan is the CEO of the record label MC Loph was signed to before his tragic passing. Find Bianca's write up below... My name is Bianka Johnson, I reside in the United States of America. I am from Nigeria, a healthcare practitioner, actors-manager and a goodwill citizen. Flavour Nabania didn't make a tribute song "Iwe", he made a mockery of his friend, the late McLoph. Below is my story. Tragedy brought us together.... That's how I came to know Mrs. Nwaozor, affectionately known to me as "Mama." Back in November 2011, someone posted a tribute video, "Iwe", by Flavor, on Facebook. On that day I distinctly remember viewing the video on YouTube and sobbing for over an hour after watching this video that paid homage to two siblings who so suddenly lost their lives. I was simply paralyzed thinking about the magnitude of grief one particular mother would have to endure. You see, Mama was the mother who lost those two adult children on the same day, specifically, a son, the erstwhile entertainer, MC Loph, and a daughter, Chinwe. All I could think to myself is that life as we know it is so unfair. My spirit was disturbed and something, I don't know what it was, moved within me and I set out to find this woman. It became my duty....my obligation, to find her, to hug her and give her some semblance of hope and maybe a little peace, if she would allow me to. So, I began to search for Mama. The first thing I did was to call Flavor's promoter, Igwe, who I knew was based in Houston, Texas. I asked to speak with Flavor and he informed me that Flavor had gone to the mall, but he would make sure Flavor would call me immediately he got back. At the time, Flavor was in the United States promoting the album he had recently released. The next day Igwe called me and put Flavor on the phone. I briefly introduced myself and went straight to thank him for showing love through his tribute song to a dear friend who had lost his life. Shortly after that, I expressed to him how his video moved me to tears and how I felt compelled to find Loph's mother. Flavor thanked me as well and gave me a telephone number to MC Loph's close friend in Lagos who went by the name Obi Mgbakor. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that Flavor was in contact with Mama on a weekly, or at least, a monthly basis seeing as the late MC Loph and Flavor were childhood friends that grew up together. Without hesitation, I immediately called Obi Mgbakor in Lagos and introduced myself to him and requested Mama's contact information. Obi Mgbakor was guarded at first and was reluctant to give me Mama's number. He asked for my Facebook name so he could check out my profile. Without giving it a second thought, I provided it to him and his countenance changed after he was able to verify who I was and he even requested my friendship on Facebook. Obi Mgbakor gave me Mama's information and I contacted her the next day and introduced myself. Mama and I spent almost an hour on the phone the first time we spoke and she narrated so much to me. Mama was heartbroken and she said that she was actually shocked Flavor was the one that made it possible for us to start communicating. Mama went further to express her disappointment over Flavor's nonchalant attitude since the death of her son, MC Loph and her daughter Chinwe. "Flavor has not picked up the phone to call me since Obiajulu passed away, yet he made a hit tribute song on his behalf. May God be the judge," Mama said. Now, it must be noted that MC Loph died in a ghastly motor accident on September 14, 2011, while traveling on the Benin/Ore expressway to visit Mama with his pregnant fiancé Nkiru, who survived the ordeal. The phone conversation I had with Mama was in November 2011, two months after MC Loph's death and she said Flavor hadn't called? Unbelievable! Immediately I got off the phone with Mama I called Obi Mgbakor to verify what she told me. The whole thing was strange to me and I couldn't reconcile the feelings and emotions Flavor expressed in his tribute video with the nonchalant attitude he had towards his best friend's mother. Obi Mgbakor indeed confirmed that Flavor refused to call or visit mama after McLoph's death. Right now, I want to set the record straight. Since the death of Mama's son, MC Loph, Flavor Nabania never called nor visited Mama and he never sent a dime to her for her upkeep. Flavor hasn't made any effort to reach out to Nkiru or MC Loph's infant son. Mama died from congestive heart failure exacerbated by heartbreak. But for the deaths of her two adult childrenat the same time, which took an enormous toll on her health, it is my belief that Mama would have lived longer. Since her death, I have read so many untrue stories including a statement made by MC Loph's former manager, Emeka Morgan. Once again, let me set the record straight: Mr. Morgan was never responsible for Mama's upkeep. He claimed that his record label was sending Mama thirty thousand naira a month. Mama never received thirty thousand Naira monthly from the record label and Mr Morgan never adopted MC Loph's son nor was he responsible for the infant's welfare as speculated by some brainless human beings. Mr. Morgan abandoned Mama as soon as the media attention surrounding her son's death died off. Mr. Morgan till date has yet to call Nkiru, MC Loph's fiancé, to say congratulations on the birth of Loph's son. It is my honest belief that God brought me close to Mama after her son's death for reasons beyond my comprehension. I took care of Mama until she died to the best of my ability. Today, I am blessed to have an extra angel watching over me. She lost two children at the same time who can never be replaced but before she died, Mama gained a grandson, a beautiful daughter in-law in Nkiru, and a daughter in me. Mama is gone, reunited with her children and I know she is at peace now. Mama will be buried on November 12, 2013. May her very gentle soul rest in peace. like our facebook page for latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/

Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige today flagged off his gubernatorial campaign in Onitsha, Anambra state. People present were Rochas Okorocha - Imo state governor, Ekiti state governor, Adams Oshiomhole - Edo state governor among other. However, Ngige was lucky to have a multitude of people in his flag of notwithstanding the rain that started early today. On his speech, I must say that Ngige lacks campaign strategy. Its time we jettison this primitive way of campaign. Dr. Chris Ngige instead of presenting his manifesto, dream speeches and ambition, he ended up casting stone on gov. Peter Obi, APGA gubernatorial aspirant, Dr. Willie Obianor and Ifeanyi Ubah(LP). That is a shear sign of lack of creativity. Note, this is no malice, I am speaking from a general point of view.
