Silva's comments were given during her visit last Tuesday to the 6th Commission of the National Assembly. She asserted that the decision was the latest is a series of efforts to ban ‘illegal’ religious sects. According to the minister, the action was necessary to fight relentlessly against the emergence of congregations whose worshipping is contradicting with the customs of the Angolan culture. Same as Islam, other faiths which were not legalized will face closure of their houses of worship. http://..com/2013/11/shocking-angola-bans-islam.html |

VARSITY teachers have agreed to suspend their five months old strike, The Nation learnt yesterday. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given three conditions to be tabled before President Goodluck Jonathan today. If the terms are acceptable to the Federal Government, the union will call off the strike. The ASUU leadership has banned its local chapters and zonal chairmen from talking to the media until after the session with the President. ASUU President Dr. Nasir Issa Fagge and other leaders of the union were being expected in Abuja last night. According to a source, who was part of the ASUU session at Mambayya House in Kano, the conditions are: •commitment from the President that any review or reconsideration or renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement will not substantially affect the pact which is the cause of the ongoing strike; •immediate payment of all outstanding salary arrears and allowances of varsity teachers without victimization; and •a written commitment from the President that the Federal Government will commit N225billion annually to the funding of universities for the next four years. There is a fourth condition, which is said to be “personal” to ASUU, bordering on the need to be wary of gradual loss of public sympathy. The union leaders were said to have recognised public goodwill for the strike and the need to avert any action that could erode such confidence. The source said: “Our leaders are meeting with the President on Monday to table these conditions. Once the President accepts these three terms, the strike will be called off. “In principle, members voted about 60-40 per cent to call off the strike, but they added a caveat – that ASUU leaders should extract a commitment (signed and sealed) from the President. The union is said to have insisted on the three conditions because during talks with the Federal Government, it was apparent that the government wanted a renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement. “If ASUU had accepted to renegotiate the entire Agreement , it means there will be no basis for the ongoing strike. The worst that can happen is either having the abridged version of the 2009 Agreement or a phased implementation of the document,” the source added. The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State became at the weekend the third institution to break ranks with the striking union. It asked its students to return to the campus today. Lecture are to start on December 2, according to the Registrar, Mr. Bamidele Olotu. Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT), Enugu, and the Ibrahim Badamosi University, Lapai, in Niger State had earlier directed the reopening of the schools. The registrar directed students to begin their registration on the school portal immediately. AAUA Student Union President Julius Adeniyi welcomed the resumption plan and assured his fellow students of a hitch-free semester. He said: “We are dying and wasting away our time at home; and I am backing my Vice Chancellor on the resumption date. We are coming in and nothing will happen.” SOURCE: NIGERIAN NEWS UPDATES |
https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Girls.jpg 32-year-old Lebanese, Jack Sankary, whose hobby is to have carnal knowledge of under-aged girls in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has been nabbed by detectives. Also middle aged woman, Chinwe Chinasa, has been arrested for allegedly trafficking six young girls to Libya for prostitution. His recruiter, Patience Godwin, is currently undergoing interrogation at the state CID. Vanguard gathered that Patience was arrested at her hideout in Odopetu area of Akure metropolis and one 14-year-old girl about to be taken to the Lebanese rescued. Speaking on the woman who trafficks young girls to Libya for prostitution, the state Police command said she was arrested at the Olufoam area of Federal Housing Estate, ShagariVillage in Akure following intelligence reports. The command image maker, Wole Ogodo, said after the raid on the hideout, it was discovered that the six young girls had been prepared for the journey to Libya. Ogodo said part of the preparation was shaving of their hairs and cutting of their nails. He assured that investigation was ongoing to apprehend all her collaborators. Ogodo said that some Nigerian international passports, cheque books of different banks and fake Naira notes were recovered from the suspected trafficker’s house. Speaking while she was paraded by the police, Chinasa said she picked four of the girls from a hotel in Asaba, DeltaState. We were virgins Some of the girls confirmed that the suspect deceived their parents that she was going to help them look for jobs and not prostitution. They alleged that they were virgins before they were lured into the illicit business by the suspect. The girls were said to have pleaded that the police should temper justice with mercy since they were deceived into the trade by the suspect. According to Ogodo the suspects will be charged to court after completion of investigation. SOURCE: NIGERIAN NEWS |

The battle for the last 5 is as tricky as gunning for the ultimate crown. Sooner or later, many favourites would have to see the exit door, as painful as it is, it is an inevitability that cannot be avoided. It is the name of the game: there will be losers and winners. Now, we have witnessed another dramatic week of surprises, intrigues and pure bravado. The set-up we had last week isn’t what have shaped out this week. There has been a number of changes: Tonto Dikeh: After having been shocked and stunned by Stephanie Okereke last week, the controversial actress and singer is back on top, fighting tooth and nail to claw her way back to the top. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/sexiest10a.jpg Stephanie Okekere: She gain the first spot last week but overdone again by Tonto’s bravado to reclaim her spot. She has only lost a few steps and stands on good ground to fight all the way. Ebube Nwagbo: All attention is on Tonto and Stephanie, running the race neck to neck and nobody is watching how dangerously close Ebube is getting to the duo. She remains restive on 3rd but closer to the first two stronger than ever. Yvonne Nelson: Yvonne still has her hand on the 4th spot but not without a challenge from Colette who is running wild at 5th. Here, is another duo that may be worth watching. Colette Orji: Ever since Colette has been able to out-muscled Angela Okorie on the 5th spot she seems to have develop some sort of belief and she is pushing higher than ever. Cynthia Agholor: I said Cynthia has remained in the game only because she has learnt to play the game with the ruthlessness it demands. This week, she was simply outstanding and too hot to handle as she leapfrogged two spots to jump to six. Queeneth Hilbert: Just like Cynthia, Queeneth too has demonstrated some ruthlessness to remain in the game. The duo were very much at each other’s throats this week, bundling their way into the next positions. Angela Okoria: What could be said of Angela, a lacklustre outing in the last couple of weeks have seen her lots plummeted. Her fighting spirit seems to be all-time low. Men Yul Edochie: Even though Ramsey and Benson are doing the best they could, the guy continues to make them look like they aren’t trying hard enough, or are they? Ramsey Nouah: This top actor will need to do more than just sitting around, hoping the game will cheer him on. With more outing like he has been having the last couple of weeks, Benson might just be given the right of way he has been honking for. Benson Okonkwo: Benson continues to push but the harder he pushes the more Uti seems to be enjoying the sight of him. He is still doing fine at third and probably having a look into second. With a couple of weeks to go, anything can happen. Uti Nwachukwu: Uti has been asking questions for sometime now and right now he seems to be getting some answers. He took advantage of Pope’s lacklustre week to upstage him and here he is on 4th and looking to do more damage. Pope Odowondo: Pope was having a bit of a wrestle with Benson until Benson got other ideas, leaving Pope behind and now it seems it’s not only Benson that will leave him, even Uti has his pound of flesh. He is 5th now. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/sexiest10.jpg Odunlade Adekola: It was a huge week for Odunlade Adekola who moved three places to clinch the 6th place, taking off Van Vicker, Ali Nuhu and Frank Artus. He has been blowing hot and cold too but this week was his hottest to date. Mike Ezuruonye: For Mike, it has become a never ending story of eviction that never happened. He was the last man of the last ten yet he survived. Then he was the last ninth man expected to go out last week and again he didn’t. Now he sits on 7th, stunning Frank, and Ali Nuhu Ali Nuhu: Ali too is a specimen capable of anything. We have seen much of that in this quest to rule him out just yet. https://ghanaceleb.chris.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Black-woman-Bra.jpg It is time to let go the expensive BRAs we keep as they seem to have no real benefits—except probably being se*xy lingerie… According to scientists, brassieres increase sagging of our boobies and don’t alleviate back pain, contrary to what we have been for years. Wearing a bra does nothing to decrease back pain, and the support offered by a brassiere actually encourages the breasts to sag so if you are worried about sagging, it is time to ditch the bra. A 15-year study led by Jean-Denis Rouillon, from the University of Besançon in eastern France, found that “bras are a false necessity.” “Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra,” Rouillon, a Sports Science expert, told France Info radio. To come to this conclusion, Rouillon spent a decade and a half measuring the changes in breasts of hundreds of women- between the ages of 18 and 35 using a slide rule and caliper at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire in Besançon. Of the braless women, the researchers concluded that “on average their nipples lifted on average seven millimeters in one year in relation to the shoulders.” According to a 28-year-old woman who took part in the study and who has not worn a bra for two years now, there is no way she will be going back to wearing a bra. She told France Info Radio that “There are multiple benefits: I breathe more easily, I carry myself better, and I have less back pain”. I am not buying any more bras again and in fact without them, my nips are able to stand up straight—bringing me all the attention I deserve. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin branch, has called on the Federal Government to ban the use of sirens by public office holders in Nigeria. The union made the call in Ilorin on Monday in a release signed by its Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Oloruntoba-Oju, on the death of former ASUU president, Prof. Festus Iyayi. It called on the Federal Government to see the tragic death of Iyayi as a wake-up call on the use of convoys and sirens by government functionaries. “We call for a declaration of emergency to tackle the death traps that we call roads in this country. The carnage must stop,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted Dr. Oloruntoba-Oju as saying in the statement. According to him, convoys of governors are not meant to terrorise the governed whose taxes are used to buy the cars, pay drivers and ensure their maintenance. ASUU chairman said that convoys should not convey or deliver death to the masses of the country. “We join our voices to that of the governor of Lagos State who has clamoured incessantly for a stop to the use of sirens to terrorise citizens,” he added. Oloruntoba-Oju said that ASUU had declared seven days mourning period for the late former ASUU president. According to him, November 13 to November 19, had been declared mourning period by ASUU members, adding that flags at all secretariats of the union are to be flown at half-mast. He also enjoined all ASUU members to wear the symbolic black arm bands or dress in black during the mourning period. Source: The Nation NIGERIAN NEWS |

No fewer than 20 election officials in the Anambra governorship poll were attacked in the early hours of Sunday by armed robbery suspects along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway. One of the officials, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that they were attacked at about 3am while returning from Ihiala after the election. The electoral officer said they were rescued by soldiers who were covering them from behind. According to him, the suspects stopped them, but on sighting the security vehicle trailing behind, they took to their heels. “Some of us had already jumped out of the vehicle, and the timely intervention of the soldiers saved us. “As soon as the robbers saw other vehicles behind us in a convoy, they escaped into the bush. “We thank God for saving us. I wonder what would have happened to us, if there was no adequate security,’’ he said. He said that none of the officials was hurt, neither did they lose any of their belongings in the incident. Mod i think this deserves front page https://www.nairaland.com/1520670/gods-favour-success-which-seek |
A constructive arguement came up today in the church about favour and success. Speaking on God's favour, success is the child of success. You must be favoured before you succeed. No wonder a gospel singer(can't really remember his/her name) sang a song as follows... *what is your name? Favour is my name...*. Work from today till 2moro, you will never succeed without God's favour. Coming to our home, the super eagles won the match yesterday just because of God's favour. The works of favour are countless per se. Speaking on success, God created everyone in his own image and likeness. Therefore, all humans are equal in Gods eyes. Consequently making everyone possess God's favour. However, It depends on how you manage yours. Judas in the bible had God's favour but couldn't manage it. Peter the apostle as well managed his and succeeded notwistanding some flaws. Success is all about perseverance. No doubt, failure might abound. But with hardwork, we must succeed because favour is already on us. SO, WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS? FAVOUR or SUCCESS? LIKE US ON FACEBOOK HERE |

Boko Haram is holding a French priest who was kidnapped in northern Cameroon, a source in the banned Nigerian Islamist group said on Friday, rejecting claims of a rift among the insurgents. https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/French-priest.jpg CAMEROON, - : This handout photo taken on July 22, 2012 and released on November 14, 2013 by the Diocese de Nanterre shows French priest Georges Vandenbeusch (L) celebrating mass in the north of Cameroon. Vandenbeusch was kidnapped overnight in the north of Cameroon near the border with Nigeria. Photo AFP “I can confirm that the French priest is in the hands of mujahideen (fighters) from Jamaat Ahl al-Sunna Li Da’wat al-Jihad, who carried out the operation that was co-ordinated with Ansaru,” he told AFP. Boko Haram prefers to go by the Arabic name, which translates as “People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet’s Teachings and Jihad” (holy war). Ansaru is an offshoot of the militant group and has previously claimed kidnappings of foreign nationals. Photo AFP CAMEROON, – : This handout photo taken on July 22, 2012 and released on November 14, 2013 by the Diocese de Nanterre shows French priest Georges Vandenbeusch (L) celebrating mass in the north of Cameroon. Vandenbeusch was kidnapped overnight in the north of Cameroon near the border with Nigeria. Photo AFP The United States on Wednesday listed both Boko Haram and Ansaru as terror groups, bowing to months of pressure to act after years of bloody violence in northeast and central Nigeria that has left thousands dead. Hours after the declaration, heavily armed men abducted Roman Catholic priest Georges Vandenbeusch from his home near the town of Koza in northern Cameroon, about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the Nigerian border. He was seized by about 15 people, who burst into his Nguetchewe parish base, according to the bishop of the Nanterre diocese near Paris, which has authority over the cleric. The Boko Haram source, who did not want to be identified, declined also to say where the 42-year-old priest was being held, after the Cameroon authorities said they feared he had been taken across the border into Nigeria. Speaking in Paris after talks with Togo’s President Faure Gnassingbe, French President Francois Hollande said Vandenbeusch had “most likely” been taken to Nigeria. “We are checking all the information that we can get,” he told reporters, adding that he would speak with his counterpart in Cameroon, Paul Biya, and vowing that France was doing “all it could to find… and free” the priest. “The fight against terrorism is still our main concern and common purpose,” he added. Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi described the kidnapping as “an extremely serious and horrible case, reflected the spread of hatred and violence in the region.” The Boko Haram source promised to reveal more details about the kidnapping “at the appropriate time”. But he added that claims of rifts within the ranks of the insurgent group, which has been linked to Al-Qaeda’s operations in north and western Africa, were exaggerated. Boko Haram originally claimed to be fighting for the creation of an Islamic state in northern Nigeria and has made suicide bombing and gun attacks its trademark. Ansaru has been linked to at least three hostage-takings of foreigners since 2011 and has mentioned French intervention in Mali and European nations’ “atrocities done to the religion of Allah” when claiming kidnappings. “There is a deliberate attempt by the enemies of Islam to portray Jamaat Ahl al-Sunna Li Da’wat al-Jihad as sharply divided,” the source said. “What they don’t know or ignore is that the two groups work closely together and most of the operations by the mujahideen are jointly carried out by the mujahideen from both sides.” AFP tried to verify the Boko Haram claim from other sources but there was no immediate information available from the authorities. The kidnapping of Vandenbeusch, who had been working in the area for two years and had ignored French government warnings about the dangers of staying in the region, brings to eight the total number of French hostages held worldwide. Four others are being held in Syria, another in Nigeria and two in the Sahel region on the southern fringes of the Sahara desert. In February, a Frenchman employed by the gas group Suez in Yaounde was kidnapped with his wife, their four children and his brother while visiting a national park near the Nigerian border. They were then taken across the notoriously porous frontier. The kidnapping was later claimed by Boko Haram, which has been waging a deadly insurgency in northern Nigeria since 2009. The family was released in April but France denied paying a ransom or launching a military operation to secure their freedom. https://thenationonlineng.net/new/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/IYAYI-PORTRAIT-620x330.jpg University students may have to endure some more days of their teachers’ strike, it emerged yesterday. The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which would have reviewed the strike, was postponed indefinitely yesterday. This is to enable the teachers mourn ASUU’s one-time President Festus Iyayi, a University of Benin (UNIBEN) professor, who was killed in an accident involving the convoy of Kogi State Governor Idris Wada on the Lokoja-Abuja highway on Tuesday. Iyayi was travelling along with other ASUU officials to Kano enroute Abuja when the accident occurred. He died on the spot. Teachers who converged on Bayero University Kano (BUK) left yesterday for their homes as ASUU President Nasir Fagge announced the indefinite suspension of the meeting. ‘’You (journalists) have to bear with us because we are in a mourning mood over the loss of one of us, who was a strong pillar,” Fagge declared. A student, who preferred not to be named, expressed sadness over the development. ‘’We are not happy with the situation because we have overstayed at home,’’ the student said. Another urged ASUU to fix a new date for the meeting in order to resolve the lingering crisis. ‘’We are not really happy but since it is the death of their member, they were right to have suspended the meeting. ‘’But we thought they would fix a new date for the meeting before leaving the venue,’’ he added. But there appears to be a crack in the ranks of ASUU, 24 hours after the lecturers’ union was hit by the tragedy of Iyayi’s death. The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State may have pulled out of the strike The university management directed that the institution be re-opened on Monday. The Nation gathered that IBBU Senate debated the outcome of the congress of the local chapter of ASUU, which was said to favour the calling off of the strike and resolving to re-open the campus for academic activities. A member of IBBU ASUU chapter, who spoke to our reporter on the telephone, said the union members voted that the strike be called off, but with the promise that their decision would not override the NEC’s resolution. He said the management relied on the congress decision and ordered resumption. Another member of the union said: “Yes, we have been asked to resume on Monday and the campus is being prepared for re-opening. The university management took the decision in line with agreement of members that were present at the ASUU congress we held on Monday.” Asked if the local ASUU was consulted before the decision was reached, the source responded: “I cannot confirm this but what I am sure of is that lectures will start on Monday.” However, IBBU ASUU Chairman Dr Aliyu Badeggi described the directive by Vice Chancellor Prof Ibrahim Kolo as mischievous. He said there was no decision on the strike from the national executive, adding that there was no way IBBU would pull out of the action it was a party to. He said: “How can IBBU pull out of the strike when the NEC has not ordered it should be called off? You should have known that the Vice Chancellor is being mischievous and playing to the gallery. There is no final decision on resumption because we voted to be part of the strike and we will remain a party to the action, until NEC meeting decides we should resume. So, don’t believe what the management has said; IBBU is in full strike.” Contacted last night, the university’s Director of Information, Alhaji Sule Shehu, said the resumption directive was the decision of the institution’s Senate and not the VC’s. He said: “It is true that students have been asked to resume by the Senate of the university, which is made up of lecturers, Heads of Departments, Deans of faculties, professors and directors of units. All these people took the decision in a majority vote and not the personal decision of the vice chancellor.” Asked if the local ASUU chapter was contacted, Shehu said there was no way the wishes of a few would override the agreement of the majority, dismissing Badeggi’s opinion as “minority view”. The university also released an adjusted calendar to make up for the lost period so as to complete the second semester. The congress of the Union at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna was divided Monday with majority of members in support of suspension of the four month old action, while others would want it suspended with some conditions met by government. The minority demanded that in calling off the action, the leadership of the union should insist that no member is victimised for their role in the strike. They also insisted that government should indicate in the final agreement as agreed with the President that the 2009 was due for negotiation as well as the payment of the balance of their academic earned allowances. No sooner the chapter chairman, Dr. Fatai Jimoh briefed the congress of the outcome of the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the union that the house was divided with majority of the members pushing for suspension of the strike. The few dissenting voice argued that the union should not fall prey to federal government ploy. They cautioned that the union cannot take government for its word, maintaining that if the union had to embark on a strike after series of correspondences and strike in 2011 that led to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2012 were not honoured. But majority of the university teachers said that the plight of the students and their parents should be considered. After exhaustive debate, the congress resolved and directed its chairman to convey to the national executive council meeting holding tomorrow in Kano that the union can consider suspending the action but insisted that the three other conditions be met. When contacted, the chapter chairman, Dr. Fatai Jimoh initially refused to divulged the outcome of the congress but later confirmed that majority of his congress members pushed for suspension. “I have the mandate to take the decision of the congress to NEC holding day after tomorrow. But if you insist to know, majority of our members called for the suspension of the strike but with the government fulfilling three conditions. “Don’t ask me the conditions, because we don’t want it public domain. All I can tell you is that the strike is still on until the NEC of the union decide otherwise,” Jimoh stated. The chapter chairman also refused to assess the impact of the action. According th him, “As long as NEC has not suspended the action, it will be premature to assess the success or otherwise of the action. When the strike is called off, I’ll give my candid assessment”. At Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai efforts to get the outcome of the congress failed as the Chairman was out of reach but the congress on Friday during a community walk to sensitised members of the public resolved to abide by the decision of the NEC of the Union. Speaking after the walk, the chapter chairman, Comrade Yahaya Badeggi said, “the congress at IBBU Lapai, resolved that the strike continues until when the National Executive Council of the union decides otherwise. We know they are still negotiating, we shall abide by the decision of NEC”. On the gains of the four month old action, Badeggi said, “I make bold to say that the action has produced some positive results. From the N100 billion released our university got N450 million. This would not have been so but for the strike. I believe that at the end of the university system will be better for it”. LATEST UPDATES HERE |
