Family / Re: My Son's Girlfriend Comes To Our House To Sleep Everyday by manee2(m): 2:25pm On Oct 11, 2021
wisemum:
I am bringing this topic here to see if I can get any good advise from youths of the same generation.

My son returned from schooling abroad two years ago and after completing his NYSC, has been trying to get a job. None has been forthcoming but he tries to keep occupied, trying his hands on different projects. He still lives at home but says that once he is financially stable, he will get his own apartment and move out.

He is generally a calm, law abiding , likeable gentleman until when he recently started bringing home this girl who dresses like a prostitute and who I discovered stays overnight in his room with him. His dad and I have fought him over this subject to no avail. I confronted the girl to tell her I do not feel comfortable with her sleeping overnight in my house especially since I do not know her family and will be held responsible if anything happens to her. She apologized to me and promised not to come to sleep over again. However, I noticed that after that, he started sneaking her in at late hours of the night when he thinks we have gone to bed, sometimes when it is past midnight. He hasn't introduced the girl to us as anything to him even though I have asked him several times what his intentions with this girl is but he will just say she is a friend that makes him happy- that's all.

He told his uncle that he likes the girl. I don't even know what else to do. I have tried talking to him, reasoning with him, but it all falls on his deaf ears. I do not like this girl at all. She comes across to me as a street girl- even though she is generally polite when she meets me at home anytime she comes during the day. I investigated and found out her work place is not far from our house. What I do not like about her is that she dresses, exposing delicate parts of her body and is a chain smoker.

Furthermore, to me, a girl who sleeps out in a mans' parent house, continually disregarding how his parents feel about it, cannot be good news. Once, I caught her almost naked in the night walking along the corridor leading to my sons room. She ran inside his room when she saw me. I was so embarrassed and wondered what if my husband had been the one who ran into her? What kind of thing is this? Only her pant on, breasts bare. It was the following day I traced her to her workplace and gently but sharply and firmly told her I do not permit her to sleepover in my house again. His dad also spoke with him. I also spoke to him. Everything has been to no avail.

He still sneaks her in. Or did she jazz him?, Please advise me. Thanks.

Lmao!

Mom, he’s still your son quite alright but a man now.
Firstly, that's the man he has grown to be, you just have to accept that fact, which is not bad after all we have differences in destiny.

Secondly, having passed through the stresses of education to return to this shitty country full of disappointments and frustrations is enough to weigh him down and I believe the lady you see around helps ease such depression.

Thirdly, your son is still a good man and I think he still knows himself too, guesses why? Because he never introduced a street girl he has no plans with to you. He just wants to have fun and ease stress. He opened up to the uncle and I will do the same if his uncle understands better or has been through something similar which your son might be aware of.

Finally, he needs to earn get a job or something, that’s the only way to help him and watch him settle introduce the right woman for marriage.

My opinion though.

Kokaine:
Honestly speaking, the younger generation is not to be blamed. We led the way. They only followed. The so called shortcuts started when their futures were sabotaged by greedy leaders. The writing was clear on the wall that no one would care for their future If they decided to follow the long cut. They saw you starve their poor parents and kill them with SARS without justice just because they were poor and didn't have a voice. They saw how poverty was a stamp on hard working fellow and how connection was the only way to get going.

People who spent six years reading medicine definitely followed the long cut. But what do we see today? Doctors on strike over poor government attention, so bad that UK and Saudi Arabia have seen Nigeria as a harvesting ground for doctors. The ones who followed the long cuts, the government failed them. Its a moral wrong to stand before these youths who met the ridiculous state of affairs in this country, and address them about shortcuts. The address should be made to the older generation who had no foresight to see that corruption won't stop at them, it will get worse.

Younger generations always develop on what they find the older ones doing. So a generation found the old phone called land lines, they developed it to smart phones. They found old houses, they developed it to smart homes. In Nigeria they found corruption, cheating, stealing, mockery of leadership, they are developing it to ritual killings.

There are no role models to follow. All the role models are broke and live in squalor, while the thieves are celebrated. Who will the younger ones emulate? Tell me!

Is it that senator dancing everyday on the TV with sport cars and Bugatti? Or their maths teacher who had a first class and didn't get a job, and brings new general maths textbook to class inside nylon bag with his pink okrika shirt and grey bogus trouser? Or is it the physics teacher with his canoe shoe he uses to wade through floods of biblical torrent on his way to school, where he earns 20k monthly and cannot even afford a clean haircut? Oh! So you think he's still single because he's enjoying looking at the buttocks of those ss2 girls? Who will marry him in his condition? Or the huslter who couldn't pay medical bills for his sick parents or kids and they died? Its easy to sit in the lofty comfort of your hone with a secure efcc salary and be telling the youths what to do. And then you go back and collect bribe from another person. We casted the society. They are the victims. What hope has a Nigerian compared to an American kid? We should bow our heads and hide our faces in shame and disgust when addressing the youths, we should be apologising to them.

What do they learn in the university? Old syllabus that's expired and cannot be reformed to fit in today's world? The same Nigerian kids that go abroad and fly in excellent colours. People with 2.2 will go abroad for masters and be the best graduating student. Companies in america will fly the Nigerian flag for weeks because of the outstanding performance of one Nigerian staff. Are they the problems or the victims? You tell me where the corruption and ineptitude hasn't touched? Is it in the insecurity in this country? Or management of public funds? Or the constantly plummeting naira to dollar? Or the national debt that is increasing with a geometric trajection? Tell me where lies the hope of an average hustler!

My heart goes out to every body doing a legit hustle in Nigeria. God will see us through one day.

Failed Nation!

Nairaland / General / Unknown Gunmen Reinforced From Aba To Enforce Sit-at-home Order In Owerri Today by manee2(m): 2:40pm On Oct 04, 2021
Palpable fear gripped residents of Imo State on Monday as gunmen forcefully enforce the sit-at-home directive of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB).

Most residents who had resumed at various places of their establishments before 8 am were said to have been sent back home by the gunmen wielding sophisticated weapons.

The panic according to our correspondent started from Ukwu-orji to Ogbaku,Orogwe in Mbaitoli and Owerri west Local Government Area of the State respectively when the gunmen had invaded some schools in the area and forced them to close before their normal time.

Parents were seen hurrying to pick their children from their various schools as at 9 am while those who could not wait for their parents to come ran away from fear.

At Orogwe/Ndegwu road, two vehicles reportedly ran into each other while hurrying to pick their children from school.

An eye witness disclosed that the driver of the bus from Ndegwu was running at a high speed to pick his children from school just as the other when they rammed into each other.

Although both drivers were lucky to have escape the incident unhurt but their vehicles were severely damaged.

Meanwhile,it was not long the panic shifted to the metropolis , shops already opened for business in Owerri and other parts of the town began to shutdown over alleged threats issued to them by the hoodlums. Banks, filling stations, schools and artisans were not left out even as the roads became empty.

At Ehiogugu, Mbaise and Naze in Owerri north Local Government Area, shootings by the gunmen were said to have scared residents of the place to return back to their homes.

Some of the tertiary institutions in the State also hurriedly shutdown amidst the pandemonium caused by the gunmen.
