The 65-year-old billionaire mogul opens up about not marrying and not having children in this week’s issue of PEOPLE which celebrates extraordinary Women Changing the World. Winfrey, who met her longtime partner Stedman Graham at a charity event in 1986, tells PEOPLE she once did think of becoming a mother after she and Graham, 68, became engaged. At one point in Chicago I had bought an additional apartment because I was thinking, ‘Well, if we get married, I’m going to need room for children,'” says Winfrey. While that never came to be, Winfrey did say she saw “the depth of responsibility and sacrifice that is actually required to be a mother” during her years on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I realized, ‘Whoa, I’m talking to a lot of messed-up people, and they are messed up because they had mothers and fathers who were not aware of how serious that job is,'” she says. I don’t have the ability to compartmentalize the way I see other women do. It is why, throughout my years, I have had the highest regard for women who choose to be at home [with] their kids, because I don’t know how you do that all day long. Nobody gives women the credit they deserve. She continues, “I used to think about this all the time, that I was working these 17-hour days, and so were my producers, and then I go home and I have my two dogs and I have Stedman, who’s letting me be who I need to be in the world. He’s never demanding anything from me like, ‘Where’s my breakfast? Where’s my dinner?’ Never any of that, which I believed would have changed had we married. Both he and I now say, If we had married, we would not be together, she adds. No question about it — we would not stay married, because of what that would have meant to him, and I would have had my own ideas about it. I have not had one regret about that. I also believe that part of the reason why I don’t have regrets is because I got to fulfill it in the way that was best for me: the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.’ Read more here; https://maniagist.com/2019/10/13/oprahwinfrey-explains-why-she-chose-not-to-marry-or-have-kids-i-dont-have-regrets/

The 27-year-old was replaced by midfielder Philippe Coutinho on Sunday after feeling an injury in his left thigh. The match was 0-0 after 30 minutes. Neymar missed this year's Copa America because of a right ankle injury. He only returned to action two months later. The Brazilian also had a right foot injury in January playing for his club Paris Saint-Germain. The problem in his fifth metatarsal took kept him off the pitch for almost three months. Neymar also injured his right foot months before the World Cup in Russia. The friendly could have marked Neymar's rise to second all-time Brazil top goal scorer. He has 61 goals, one less than two-time World Cup winner Ronaldo. Tammy Abraham’s decision to snub Nigeria for England has not gone down well with former England international and Wimbledon FC star, John Fashanu, who believes the 20-year-old made the wrong footballing decision. The Chelsea academy graduate became a subject of tussle between the English FA and the Nigeria Football Federation after posting scintillating performances for the Blues in the ongoing league campaign. But England manager, Gareth Southgate, moved ahead of Nigeria by including Abraham in his squad to face Bulgaria and Czech Republic for the Euro 2020 qualifier much to the disappointment of many Nigerians who had hoped that the in-form striker will commit his future to Nigeria. And Fashanu, who also featured for the Three Lions has told the Chelsea striker to have a rethink so as to prevent history from repeating itself- citing his own case as an example. I’ve now been living in Nigeria for 14 years and I know that I made the wrong choice not playing for Nigeria. For him right now, everything looks like England is fantastic and wonderful. But it is only like I did, as he gets older he will realise that Nigeria is his motherland and as we have our problems in Nigeria, England also has its problems. What I want to tell Tammy Abraham is to make the right choice and play for his motherland which is Nigeria. He will have more time and make more appearances playing for Nigeria but the truth is he will make more money playing for England. It is now up to him (Tammy) to decide if he wants to play for Nigeria more than 50 times or if he wants to make $1m. But as a patriotic Nigeria I would have loved him to play for Nigeria. Don’t make the same mistakes that we elders made then. As an elder in the game, I can only offer advice. My advice to Tammy is to forget about money because money will come and go. Come back to your motherland and play for the country which I didn’t do. That’s my advice because now I know where I went wrong. I made a lot of money but I only played for England twice. I could have still made money with the Nigeria national team and made more appearances and helped the country to win many trophies and do wonderful things. Now I look back and see some of the mistakes I made and I don’t want him and other young Nigerians to make the same mistakes that I made. The Wimbledon legend though admitted that the final decision lies with the 21-year-old player. At the end of the day we must understand that his choice is his own choice. Though, we can influence his choices but he is a young man and a wonderful player who is in the best year of his life and he knows what it’s like. Chinyere Amadi, aka Calabar Slayqueen/Chilly B, is a social media influencer and entertainer. She spoke with DAVID OLADUNJOYE about her career How would you describe your journey into social media space? I feel that social media is like a children’s workbook. You either sketch on it, colour on it or write clearly what your school teacher can see, either right or wrong. The road has not been too smooth but by His grace, we are still moving on and hopefully, we would get to the peak soon. How were you able to get so many followers? I was able to build my follower base through consistency and devotion. Are you satisfied with the number of followers you currently have? Not really. I was off social media for about 10 months and when I got back, things weren’t the same again. But as we speak, I’m doing all I can to regain my balance. Why were you off social media for that long? It was majorly for personal reasons. You have lots of fans online. Have you met any of them one-on-one? I met one in the market once and she screamed my name. I even got scared because I didn’t know where the noise was coming from. She then said she was surprised my butt was real because she thought I usually edited the pictures I posted online. I told her I had friends with even bigger butts and we both laughed over it and hugged ourselves. She requested for a picture but I refused because I wasn’t properly dressed but her response got me teary eyed. She said, ‘I am in love with Chilly B, not the dressing, and it’s Chilly B I want in the picture, not the dressing’ Since that day, I told myself to work really hard because even people unknown to me have so much love for me, and I don’t want to let them down. Have you ever thought of leaving social media because of cyber bullying? I have harboured such thoughts several times. However, I always remember that I have lots of bills to pay, so I concentrate on the gains, and shun the hateful comments. When you joined social media, did you know it was going to be this profitable? Honestly, all I wanted was to upload nice pictures, get likes and make new friends. Little did I know that fate had better plans for me. Every day, I wake up and thank God for all I am. Do you have lots of celebrity followers? Yes. Quite a number of celebrities follow me. But with the way the industry is, if you’re not in their caucus, no matter how good you are, you still wouldn’t be good enough for some celebrities. Have you ever been involved in any violent encounter in your line of work? I have not really had any physical encounter, except the little accident I had when I had to leave my car and jump on a bike because I was late for an appointment two years ago. However, online trolls perpetrate a lot of emotional violence. What is the weirdest message you have ever got from a follower? A male follower once wrote a message to me in pidgin English, stating that as big as my butt is, it is still a man like him that has sex with me. I was so mad and wanted to reply him, but on second thought, I decided to let it go. How lucrative is it being a social media influencer? It has been extremely lucrative, although I’m still waiting on fate to finally bake my full bread. What influences the jobs you take? It has to be a brand associated with entertainment. It should also be educational, and fit in with my brand. Have you ever turned down any job? A lot of sexual enhancement sellers offer me good money just to help push their products, but I always turn them down because I believe their products promote lies. Also, I think their products are quite diabolical because they promise to help women get money from men. Meanwhile, one of such men may be my future husband. There’s no way I would be involved in promoting such. When you first joined social media, did you know you were going to be an influencer? Even if a pastor had told me, I wouldn’t have believed. It all started like a joke but here we are now. On the other hand, even before the advent of social media, I was already influencing young people around me with my craft and the other things I did. A lot of people already looked up to me, so I identified with that part of me that wanted to influence young minds and bring out the best in them. Social media only provided a bigger platform for me to expand my reach. What are your other interests? My main calling is to be a rap artiste and I also act. Social media influencing is my ‘side chick’, while music is my first love. What are the highlights of your music career? I grew up around musicians. My late mum was a singer. She was also a dancer, so, in a way, she helped discovered my talent at the age of three. I started doing music in church and school. Initially, I went by the name ‘Chichi’ but I changed it to Chilly B in 2012. That was when I released my first official single, ‘Wyne am Go Down’, which did well on many music charts in the South-South part of the country. At that time, I was rounding off my studies at the University of Calabar. What stands you out as an artiste? My stage craft commands a lot of attention as I was once a professional dancer. I have headlined many shows in the South-South region, and I have won some awards too. I am currently working on the visuals for my new single on which I will be featuring MC Galaxy. I believe it will be a hit. How many movies have you featured in? I have featured in quite a number of films, including ‘Itoro the House Girl’, ‘Itoro the Wise Girl’, ‘Estate Runs’, ‘Cross Instincts’, ‘Evil Step Sister’, and ‘Forest of the Unclean’, among others. I have acted alongside people like Annie Idibia, Halima Abubakar, Moyo Lawal, Amanda Ebeye, and many others. Have you ever felt that people look down on you because of what you do? I don’t really bother myself about such things. Some people say that I do nothing but shake my bum. Would you consider leaving social media if you get a good job offer? I will definitely leave soon to focus on my music career. It’s not pride but I can never work for anyone, even if they offer me N10m per month. I have a degree, so I could have chosen to seek a corporate job if I wanted to. The National Youth Service Corps has said some foreign-trained graduates, who participated in the recently concluded 2018 Batch C Stream 1 Service Year, will have to present themselves for scrutiny before they can be given their certificates of national service. The NYSC said on its official Twitter handle on Friday the graduates were particularly from universities in Benin Republic and other African countries. It said they were to report at the corps’ national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 14 for scrutiny. The scheme did not state the number of the graduates. The corps on Thursday held its passing-out parade for the 2018 Batch C, Stream 1 corps members across the 36 states and the FCT which signalled the end of national service for the corps members. The NYSC said on Friday, “Foreign-trained ex-corps members, who participated in the recently concluded 2018 Batch C, Stream 1 Service Year with questionable degrees from universities in Benin Republic and some other African countries, and have not been issued certificates are to present themselves for further scrutiny. Those concerned are to report at NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, from Monday, October 14. The management of NYSC wishes to reiterate that only qualified Nigerian graduates will be issued certificates of national service in line with the provisions of the NYSC Act 2004. This is just as 11 corps members will be repeating the national service in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and in Nasarawa State for leaving their places of primary assignment without obtaining permission. The NYSC authorities told our correspondent exclusively on Thursday that 18 corps members in the FCT were brought before a disciplinary committee for absconding and two would undergo an extension. Meanwhile, nine corps members would repeat the service for the same offence in Nasarawa. The NYSC FCT Public Relations Officer, Mrs Comfort Jackson, said, “On Thursday in the FCT, we passed out 5,058 corps members. Two of them had an extension of service. There were 18 corps members who absconded in the FCT and their cases are with the disciplinary committee. Meanwhile, 26 corps members in Kano State have been asked to repeat their service year for absconding from their places of primary assignment. The state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ladan Baba, disclosed this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano. Baba said any corps member found guilty of absconding from their place of primary assignment for at least three months would repeat the service year. He added that the NYSC had also extended the service year of 26 corps members from between one and four months for being absent from their place of primary assignment without permission. The tortoise, named Alagba, meaning elderly one, lived in the palace of Ogbomoso in Oyo state. BBC Yoruba's Abdulwasiu Hassan said Alagba had at least two personal attendants to see to her needs and would eat only twice a month. She was thought to have healing powers and attracted visitors from far and wide. The revered reptile was apparently brought to the palace by the kingdom's third leader, Isan Okumoyede, who reigned from 1770 to 1797. However, Isan Okumoyede reigned just over 200 years ago. This means the tortoise would have already been 100 when she was found, for her to have reached the grand old age of 344. And reptile experts have cast doubt on Alagba's alleged age. Tim Skelton, curator of reptiles at Bristol Zoo, said it would be "impossible" for Alagaba to have lived that long. 'Unlikely in the extreme' "A hundred years is a very good age," said Mr Skelton. "Giant tortoises can live up to 200, but that's a very rare exception." Alagaba is not a giant tortoise. After looking at photos, Mr Skelton categorised Alagba as an African spur-thighed tortoise. John Wilkinson, a professional herpetologist - an expert in reptiles - agreed. I would have thought that it would be unlikely in the extreme," he said. "They just don't live that long. Jonathan is believed to be the oldest animal on earth The oldest tortoise - indeed animal - in the world is believed to be Jonathan, an 187-year-old giant tortoise who lives in St Helena. Any other tortoise lives between 70-80 years old, maximum 100," Mr Skelton said. So where did Algaba come from? The story goes that she was brought to the palace by Isan Okumoyede, when he returned from a successful expedition over 200 years ago. If this is true, Alagba will have lived through the reign of 18 Ogbomoso kings. Image copyrightPEACE SOJAY AND HIS FAMILY Image caption People used to pray with the tortoise The more cynical Mr Skelton thinks Alagba may have been a victim of "Blue Peter syndrome". The British children's TV show replaced its dog, Petra, with an identical one when she died suddenly in 1962. The audience was not told so as not to upset them. Like Petra, Alagba may have started life as a different tortoise. I don't think there's much of a mystery here to be honest," Mr Wilkinson agrees. "There has been more than one tortoise." They loved it so much they went and bought another one." And it seems as though this is not the end of Alagba's story. The current king said he plans to preserve her remains for tourism and historical records. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday announced a major reason Nigeria’s borders were shut some weeks ago. Buhari made the disclosure in his Independence Day broadcast to the nation. The President said while Nigeria would continue to do business with other countries, illegal movement of crude oil will not be allowed. He said: “We will also continue our fight against illegal bunkering of crude oil and the smuggling of refined petroleum products across our borders, including the diligent prosecution and conviction of offenders found guilty of these acts. Whilst Nigeria remains committed to free and fair continental and international trade, we will not hesitate to take all necessary steps to tackle illegal smuggling, transshipment and other predatory trade practices that destroy jobs in our country.” Last week, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), retired Col. Hameed Ali, said the border closure was to strengthen the nation’s security and protect its economic interests. He spoke at a meeting with freight forwarders and security agencies at Seme. Ali said: “Our interest is to make sure that our country is secure, the well-being of our people is ensured and our economy is secure. The step we have taken is in the interest of Nigeria, the step is not to hurt anybody but to protect our own interests as a nation.” He stated that the freight forwarders were critical stakeholders at the borders and urged them to ensure compliance with the rules regarding transit of goods. We cannot do business without you but compliance is lacking between you and our officers. Most of the things we do, we don’t comply with rules and that’s why we end up with weapons; with Tramadol that killed our children. We end up with ammunition that bandits use to kill our people. We don’t manufacture ammunition in this country, if we do it is only from one source and that source is well protected and documented. But today, we have seen many of these ammunition in Nigeria, where are they coming from? They have compromised with some of us and some of you. I say to our officers; those weapons, bullets you facilitate in transiting into Nigeria, you don’t know who will take it. Your mother, my children, your sisters might be shot by that weapon,” the Customs boss said. Read more; https://maniagist.com/2019/10/01/buhari-gives-major-reason-nigerias-borders-were-closed/

POLITICS NIGERIA has been furnished with a transcript of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independence Day message to Nigerians. Kindly Read Below; Dear Compatriots, 1st October each year is an opportunity for us to reflect and thank God for his endless blessings on our country. 2. It is also a time for us, collectively, to: 3. Remember the sacrifices made by our Founders and great leaders past; by soldiers, by distinguished public servants; by traditional leaders, by our workers —- sacrifices on which Nigeria has been built over the 59 years since Independence in 1960; and 4. Rededicate ourselves to attaining the goals which we have set for ourselves: a united, prosperous and purposeful nation in the face of 21st century opportunities and challenges. 5. In the past four years, the majority of Nigerians have committed to Change for the Better. Indeed, this Administration was re-elected by Nigerians on a mandate to deliver positive and enduring Change – through maintaining our National Security; restoring sustainable and inclusive Economic Growth and Development; and fighting Corruption against all internal and external threats. 6. This Change can only be delivered if we are united in purpose, as individuals and as a nation. We must all remain committed to achieving this positive and enduring Change. As I stated four years ago, “Change does not just happen… We must change our lawless habits, our attitude to public office and public trust… simply put, to bring about change, we must change ourselves by being law-abiding citizens.” SECURITY: 7. Good Governance and Economic Development cannot be sustained without an enabling environment of peace and security. In the last four years, we have combatted the terrorist scourge of Boko Haram. We owe a debt of gratitude to our gallant men and women in arms, through whose efforts we have been able to achieve the present results. We are also grateful to our neighbours and allies – within the region and across the world – who have supported us on this front. 8. The capacity of our armed forces to defend our territorial integrity continues to be enhanced by the acquisition of military hardware as well as continued improvements in the working conditions of our service men and women. 9. The Ministry of Police Affairs has been resuscitated to oversee the development and implementation of strategies to enhance internal security. My recent assent to the Nigerian Police Trust Fund (Establishment) Act has created a legal framework to support our Police with increased fiscal resources to enhance their law enforcement capabilities. 10. These initiatives are being complemented by the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force. This clearly demonstrates our commitment to arrest the incidence of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes across our nation. 11. We remain equally resolute in our efforts to combat militant attacks on our oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta and accelerate the Ogoni Clean-up to address long-standing environmental challenges in that region. 12. The recent redeployment of the Niger Delta Development Commission from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs underscores our commitment to enhance the living standards of our communities in the Niger Delta, through coordinated and appropriate programmes. 13. Our attention is increasingly being focused on cyber-crimes and the abuse of technology through hate speech and other divisive material being propagated on social media. Whilst we uphold the Constitutional rights of our people to freedom of expression and association, where the purported exercise of these rights infringes on the rights of other citizens or threatens to undermine our National Security, we will take firm and decisive action. 14. In this regard, I reiterate my call for all to exercise restraint, tolerance and mutual respect in airing their grievances and frustrations. Whilst the ongoing national discourse on various political and religious issues is healthy and welcome, we must not forget the lessons of our past – lessons that are most relevant on a day such as this. 15. The path of hatred and distrust only leads to hostility and destruction. I believe that the vast majority of Nigerians would rather tread the path of peace and prosperity, as we continue to uphold and cherish our unity. ACCELERATING SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE ECONOMY GROWTH 16. This Administration inherited a skewed economy, where the Oil Sector comprised only 8% of Gross Domestic Product but contributed 70% of government revenue and 90% foreign exchange earnings over the years. Past periods of relatively high economic growth were driven by our reliance on Oil Sector revenues to finance our demand for imported goods and services. Regrettably, previous governments abandoned the residual Investment-driven Non-Oil Sector, which constituted 40% of Gross Domestic Product and comprised agriculture, livestock, agro-processing, arts, entertainment, mining and manufacturing activities that provide millions of jobs for able-bodied Nigerians and utilize locally available raw materials and labour for production. 17. To address this imbalance, our commitment to achieving economic diversification has been at the heart of our economic strategies under the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, which I launched on the 5th of April, 2017. 18. This medium-term development plan charted the trajectory for our economy to exit from recession and return to the path of sustainable, diversified and inclusive growth for Nigerians. Pursuant to these reforms, the economy has recovered and we have had 9 successive quarters of growth since our exit from recession. The exchange rate in the last 3 years has remained stable, with robust reserves of US$42.5 billion, up from US$23 billion in October 2016. 19. Learning from the mistakes of the past, this Administration is committed to responsibly managing our oil wealth endowments. We will continue to prudently save our oil income and invest more in the non-oil job-creating sectors. 20. In this regard, we are significantly increasing investments in critical infrastructure. Last year, capital releases only commenced with the approval of the Budget in June 2018. However, as at 20th June this year, up to N1.74 trillion had been released for capital projects in the 2018 fiscal year. 21. Implementation of the 2019 Capital Budget, which was only approved in June 2019, will be accelerated to ensure that critical priority projects are completed or substantially addressed. The Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning has been directed to release N600 billion for Capital Expenditure in the next 3 months. 22. To maximise impact, we shall continue to increasingly welcome and encourage private capital for infrastructural development through Public Private Partnerships. Through the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme, which I initiated in January this year, we are giving incentives to private sector inflow of over N205 billion in 19 Nigerian roads and bridges of 794.4km across in 11 States of the Federation. 23. As we push to diversify the economy, we still remain focused on optimizing the revenues generated from the oil and gas sector. We will, working with the Legislature, soon pass the Petroleum Industry Bill and amendments to the Deep Offshore Act and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Act into law, to ensure Government obtains a fair share of oil revenues, whilst encouraging private sector investment. 24. We will also continue our fight against illegal bunkering of crude oil and the smuggling of refined petroleum products across our borders, including the diligent prosecution and conviction of offenders found guilty of these acts. Whilst Nigeria remains committed to free and fair continental and international trade, we will not hesitate to take all necessary steps to tackle illegal smuggling, transshipment and other predatory trade practices that destroy jobs in our country. 25. We are resolute in reforming the power sector. In August this year, we launched the Presidential Power Initiative to modernize the National Grid in 3 phases: starting from 5 Gigawatts to 7 Gigawatts, then to 11 Gigawatts by 2023, and finally 25 Gigawatts afterwards. This programme, in partnership with the German Government and Siemens, will provide end-to-end electrification solutions that will resolve our transmission and distribution challenges. 26. The programme will also look to localize the development and assembly of smart meters as well as the operations and maintenance capabilities of transmission and distribution infrastructure. 27. I am pleased with the improved inter-agency collaboration between the Ministry of Power and the regulators in the banking and power sectors to ensure that electricity sales, billings and collections are automated and become cashless. 28. These initiatives are important to ensure that the technical and collection losses in the sector are substantially reduced. I remain confident that Nigerians will have affordable and uninterrupted electricity supply in the not too distant future. 29. Our efforts to improve the power sector will complement other infrastructure investments projects under the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund, which is investing in the Mambilla Power Plant project, as well as key economic road infrastructure such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Second Niger Bridge and Abuja-Kano Expressway. The first set of these projects remain on track to be completed by 2022. 30. Our journey to food security and self-sufficiency is well underway. We have made remarkable progress in almost all segments of the agriculture value chain, from fertilizers to rice, to animal feed production. We shall sustain these policies to ensure additional investments are channeled, thereby creating more jobs in the sector. We must not go back to the days of importing food and thereby exporting jobs. 31. Our commitment to achieving macroeconomic stability and economic diversification, has been underscored by the merger of the Ministry of Finance with the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. 32. This combined Ministry has the important mandate to enhance the management of domestic and global fiscal risks; coordinate policies with the trade and monetary authorities; raise and deploy revenues to fund budgeted expenditure; and integrate annual budgets and medium-term fiscal strategies. 33. With this, our revenue-generating and reporting agencies will come under much greater scrutiny, going forward, as the new performance management framework will reward exceptional revenue performance, while severe consequences will attend failures to achieve agreed revenue targets. 34. I recently constituted an Economic Advisory Council to advise me on inclusive and sustainable macroeconomic, fiscal and monetary policies. This independent body will work with relevant Cabinet members and the heads of key monetary, fiscal and trade agencies to ensure we remain on track as we strive for collective prosperity. However, we are also committed to ensure that the inconvenience associated with any painful policy adjustments, is moderated, such that the poor and the vulnerable, who are most at risk, do not bear the brunt. 35. Our ongoing N500 billion Special Intervention Programme continues to target these vulnerable groups, through the Home-grown School Feeding Programme, Government Economic Empowerment Programme, N-Power Job Creation Programme, loans for traders and artisans, Conditional Cash Transfers to the poorest families and social housing scheme. 36. To institutionalize these impactful programmes, we created the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development which shall consolidate and build on our achievements to date. To the beneficiaries of these programmes, I want to reassure you that our commitment to social inclusion will only increase. 37. Our population growth rate remains amongst the highest in the world, presenting both challenges as well as opportunities. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we provide adequate resources to meet the basic needs of our teeming youth. 38. Accordingly, we shall continue to invest in education, health, water and sanitation, as well as food security, to ensure that their basic needs are met, while providing them with every opportunity to live peaceful, prosperous and productive lives. FIGHTING CORRUPTION AND RESTORING GOOD GOVERNANCE: 39. On fighting corruption, our institutional reforms to enforce the Treasury Single Account policy, introduce the Whistle-blowers’ Initiative, expand the coverage of the Integrated Payroll Personnel and Information System as well as the Government Integrated Management Information System have saved billions of Naira over the last four years, and deterred the rampant theft and mismanagement of public funds that have plagued our public service. 40. The Ministry of Justice, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will continue to address this menace. We are determined to ensure that transparency and good governance are institutionalized in public service. 41. We must commit to installing a culture of Good Governance in all we do. This Administration has fought against corruption, by investigating and prosecuting those accused of embezzlement and the misuse of public resources. We have empowered teams of prosecutors, assembled detailed databases of evidence, traced the proceeds of crimes and accelerated the recovery of stolen funds. 42. Furthermore, we partnered with our friends abroad to combat tax evasion, smuggling, terrorism and illicit financial flows. In June 2018, I assented to the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, to provide a domestic legal framework for obtaining international assistance in criminal matters. 43. This measure has already strengthened our law enforcement agencies in obtaining evidence, investigating suspects and facilitating the recovery, forfeiture and confiscation of property implicated as proceeds of crime. 44. An example is the US$300 million recently identified as part of the Abacha money-laundering case, working closely with the Government of the United States of America. The Federal Ministry of Justice is working with the US Department of Justice to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding to expedite the repatriation of these funds. 45. The P & ID Arbitral Award has underscored the manner in which significant economic damage has been caused by the past activities of a few corrupt and unpatriotic Nigerians. 46. The policies that we are putting in place today are to ensure such criminal and unpatriotic acts do not go without consequences. Our renewed partnership with the 9th National Assembly will facilitate the swift passage of enabling laws that will institutionalize these anti-corruption efforts in our criminal justice system. 47. In this connection, I call upon our States to intensify their own efforts to instill greater fiscal transparency and accountability. And to ensure greater fiscal efficiency and optimum use of our very scarce resources. 48. The blight of Corruption is fighting back. Nevertheless, this is a battle that we shall see through and this is a war, which we shall win by the Grace of God. 49. I will also call upon all Nigerians, from every walk of life, to combat Corruption at every turn. By choosing to question and confront corrupt practices, by reporting unethical practices or through whistleblowing. Together, we can overcome corruption and will no longer be a country defined by corruption. 50. Fellow Nigerians, let me reiterate my call for unity across our dear nation. 51. Nigeria will emerge from our present challenges stronger and more resilient than ever – but only if all of us join hands to entrench Good Governance, foster Inclusive Economic Development, and defend and protect our Nation from all those who would wish us ill. 52. I thank you most sincerely and wish you a Happy Independence Anniversary. 53. May God bless you all, and may He continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In August, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) indicted eighty people for what it described as “the largest case of online fraud in U.S. history. Seventy-seven of them were Nigerian. Separately, also indicted for computer and wire fraud was Obinwanne Okeke. He is accused of defrauding a subsidiary of Caterpillar of $11 million. Okeke was the head of Invictus Group, with interests in Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia. Forbes magazine named him as one of its top African entrepreneurs under thrity in 2016. The arrests reportedly took place in Alexandria, Virginia, near one of the Washington, DC, airports as the accused was preparing to return to Nigeria. The arrests appear to have attracted more attention in Nigeria than in the United States. Nigerian social media by and large does not question the alleged guilt of those arrested, attributing almost super-human qualities to the FBI. The concern appears to be the damage the arrests are causing the reputation of young Nigerian entrepreneurs and fears that it will become even more difficult to obtain a visa for the United States. There has also been soul-searching about the role played by online fraud in Nigeria. The BBC has published a thoughtful “Letter from Africa” by Nigerian novelist Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, “Why Nigeria’s Internet Scammers Are ‘Role Models. She briefly reviews the history of fraud in Nigeria since the 1990s, and describes a “training school” in Lagos for scammers recently raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. She turns to why Nigerians so much admire fraudsters, Scammers establish legitimate businesses from fraudulent funds, and become respected philanthropists or politicians in senior leadership position…many young Nigerians consider scamming a career path and a valid source of income. There is little question that Nigeria is damaged by its international reputation for fraud. It contributes to the reluctance of international investors to acquire Nigerian partners. On the other hand, Nigeria has a population of some 200 million people, most of whom are poor and struggling to make a living. They pay a price for the criminality of a small class of privileged people involved in fraud. Presidential Spokesman Garba Shehu summed it up: It is a big scar on all of us who go out of this country and are seen in this image that these our brothers have created. Those arrested will be tried in the United States. If convicted, some could face sentences of up to thirty years in jail. The fight that ensued between controversial Big Brother Naija housemates, Mercy and Tacha earlier this morning looks like it’s going to continue for the rest of the day as both of them are still at it. In course of their duel, Instagram socialite, Tacha took a serious swipe at Mercy for claiming to be a virgin and called her a fake person. While reacting to her claim, Tacha went on to reveal that she’s not a virgin and she doesn’t need a guy to clout chase the way Mercy does. Mercy on the other hand decided to give the silent treatment before heading on into the garden with Ike while mocking the bickering housemate behind her. She later on can be heard saying Tacha has a smelling body and has her bath only once in a day which is unhygienic and not womanly. Earlier this morning, just after their morning work out, a quarrel brew between Tacha and Mercy which quickly escalated into a fight. Omashola came in between them to stop the fight as Tacha started pulling Mercy’s wig. Tacha and Mercy are the biggest rivals in this year’s edition of Big Brother Naija. Somehow they have been on each other’s neck and today they took their subtle dislike for each other to the next level. Five notorious miscreants alongside nine prostitutes with illegal drugs were yesterday, arrested around Mile 2/Festac area of Lagos State during an early morning clamp down on illegal brothels by the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce). The brothel was said to be noted for harboring criminals who rob unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables and also serves as an outlet for the sale of illegal drugs such as Indian hemp, Tramadol, and other sex enhancement drugs, especially to underaged children. Also, it had previously been demolished by the Agency during the clearing of illegal structures, shanties and containerized shops from Eric Moore Road down to Trade Fair axis. However, the demolished brothel had been re-built by the owner after it was demolished for illegal construction on road setbacks. Parading the suspects, the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi said the raid became imperative following complaints that criminal activities around Mile 2 towards Festac were perpetrated by miscreants who reside in the illegal brothel. He said, It was disheartening seeing that the demolished brothel had been re-built by the owner after it was demolished for illegal construction on road setbacks. The last time we demolished the illegal brothel, those miscreants taking refuge there at night attacked our officers with dangerous weapons, The Taskforce Chairman maintained that the present administration would not fold its arms and allow miscreants to make life difficult for law-abiding citizens. He confirmed that the illegal brothel had been demolished after yesterday’s exercise. While assuring members of the public that the Agency and other security agencies would not rest on their oars, CSP Egbeyemi declared that all those arrested would be charged to court in compliance with the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu. Investigative reporter, Kemi Olunloyo has officially stated via her Instagram page that Busola Dakolo‘s rape acusation against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Coza is a sham and a plot by her husband, Timi Dakolo to make Pastor Biodun step down. According to reporter Kemi Olunloyo, Busola was allegedly raped in a doggy style by someone else in the bush on her way to drop her off from baby sitting, but definitely not Pastor Biodun. Kemi alleged that Busola‘s statements were scripted lies and they were stolen from ‘Pastor Andy Savage‘s ordeal with a youth in America’ who he drove home and sexually assaulted. Their plan however failed, because from their script, Pastor Andy stepped down, but Pastor Biodun is still standing strong. Kemi further stated that Busola claimed her sexual ordeal with the pastor of Coza messed up her ‘marital sex life’ yet she has three children for Timi and even celebrated her anniversary vibrantly. Kemi concluded her post, saying that Busola should keep disgracing herself on orders of her husband Timi Dakolo. Continue disgracing yourself on orders of your husband. God is watching’ she said.
