Popular Nollywood actress, Ayo Adesanya turned 50 over the weekend and had an interesting chat with blogger Kemi Ashefon. Background I am Ayo Adesanya. I am an actress. Journey into acting I started acting right from primary school. Then, the Nigerian Television Authority used to bring their cameras to our school and we would act Shakespeare plays. I also took part in drama competitions. I attended St. Ann’s, Ibadan, where I also acted. I read Communication Arts at the University of Ibadan. In 1996, after my national youth service, I worked in a company at Agege, Lagos and was living in Lekki. After a year, I got to the office late and was suspended. I seized the opportunity and went to AIT for an audition. There, I met someone who said he was going for auditioning. From there, I was at Zeb Ejiro’s office, left and was at Opa Williams’ office, where I was auditioned for ‘Onome’. After a few takes in some films, I found myself in Tunji Bamishigbin’s soap, Palace. No other passion I love acting! I don’t see me doing something else. I can diversify but I will always continue to act because it is my world. There are some things you cannot be in real life but you can act it out. I have acted for 19 years and I can tell you that some people treat actors like gods! It has been fun and I give God the glory. Challenges They are too numerous to mention. I have been on some locations where we were chased out when our time was up. With production, it could be crazy especially if the days have been pencilled down. There was a time my son was very ill and as the main actor, I was expected on set. The location was in Ogun State and I had to leave my son with my mother. I cried but the job had to be done. As a producer, there are days you experience hell with some members of the casts and other production challenges. I still enjoy everything. Marriage I was never married to Goriola Hassan. We lived together and had a child. He is 12 years old now. Reconciliation? I don’t want to talk on that. I have moved on and I guess he has moved on too. Actresses and failed marriages It is not only actresses, other professionals experience failed marriages too. I just feel you shouldn’t marry people in the same field because it has a lot of challenges. When you are together, you do the same thing and then the home suffers for it. Regrets None. I try not to go back on things in the past. That is what makes me unique. I do things my own way and I am in my world. I don’t call it regret, I have done things that I felt that I should have done the other way but at the end of the day, God makes me see that even if you had done it that way you could still come this way. Relationship I am in one now and having the best of my life. Another shot at marriage Why not? I am still young and will definitely get married someday. But I am still learning because there are many things I need to know. Read more here; https://maniagist.com/2019/08/14/ayo-adesanya-speaks-on-failed-marriage-and-regrets-at-50-photos/

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed a new drug Nigerian youths take to feel intoxicated. Shehu Dankolo, Head of Drug Reduction of the NDLEA in Adamawa State revealed that some Nigerian youths now take processed urine to feel “high” as the ban on some abused drugs have made them relatively expensive. There are certain controlled drugs, particularly codeine cough syrup. You know, federal government clamped seriously on them. Some of the companies closed down. So, the cough syrup that was initially N250 per bottle, but it is now sold for about N4,000. The same thing with tramadol which was N50 but is now about N500. Because these abused but banned drugs are so scarce and costly or entirely out of reach, people improvise other things. I won’t include so much detail so that people don’t read this and begin to experiment. There is a way they process urine. They take it and become intoxicated. There is a way they put maggi in some energy drinks and it gives them intoxication. There is a certain sweet they put in half bottle of water which they cover up and leave for some days. They form such other things. There are what we call new psychoactive substances. That is why drug abuse is difficult to tackle” he told Daily Post. The National Executive Council, NEC, of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, in celebration of this year’s International Youth Day, IYD, Monday called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to declare a state of emergency on education and ensure adequate security for all. Nigerians IYD which comes up on 12th August every year is slated by the United Nations to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youths of member nations. Transforming Education.” In a statement by its Public Relations Officers, Olugbode Damola Hammed, the council said this year’s theme emphasized the significance of prioritizing education across the globe, highlighting the importance of accessible education to the youths, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. The group also expressed concern over the “worrisome” state of the education sector, the safety of the Nigerian youths and urged President Buhari-led administration to be proactive in solving these problems. It further lamented that “in spite of global consciousness of the significance of education as a passport to the future, statistics still show a high rate of out of school children in Nigeria- about 10.5 million of the country age 5-14 are out of school, with the highest rate of school drop out at the secondary and tertiary level. The 2019 budget accommodates less than eight per cent for education against the advocacy of UNESCO 26 per cent, proving the low prioritization of education in Nigeria. The statement continued: “Transforming education in Nigeria is long overdue; therefore, we on this day call on the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the education sector, the state of education in Nigeria is worrisome, ranging from infrastructure to curriculum, security to welfare, accessibility to affordability, and bridging the gap between the industry and our institutions, thus, the need to invest in technical education and entrepreneurial skills. On the security situation, the apex youth body also condemned what it called the worrisome security situation in the country, saying, “the fear of insecurity is on the rise for terrorism is becoming more lucrative. Herdsmen, kidnapping, and cultism constantly make the news. We appeal to Mr President to do more in securing the lives of Nigerians, which happens to be paramount of his mandate.” Read more here; https://maniagist.com/2019/08/12/international-youth-day-declare-state-of-emergency-on-education-now-nycn-says/

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, has told Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State that unlike him, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky can never escape from Nigeria for any reason. Chairman, Free El-Zakzaky Campaign Organisation of IMN, Sheikh Abubakar, said their leader won’t flee the country for whatever reason like el-Rufai did under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s administration. Abubakar was responding to the new conditions set by Kaduna State government before the leader of the IMN would be released from detention. Although a Kaduna High Court had granted the IMN leader permission to travel to India for medical attention, the Kaduna State government set seven new conditions to be met before he could be allowed to travel. In an interview in Kaduna, Abubakar told el-Rufai not to use his standard to judge other people. He said the new conditions being created by the Kaduna State government were afterthoughts that would not stand the test of time. He said: “The issue is that the judge (Justice Darius Khobo) has already given an order and the Department of State Services, DSS, has already received the order and they will comply with the court order. We see no reason Kaduna State government will now come up with other conditions. You can see that the state government wants to create confusion in the state and raise unnecessary tension. Their action is an afterthought. Nothing more, nothing less. If el-Rufai ran away from this country during Yar’Adua’s administration, nobody would say that El-Zakzaky will run away from this country. He is a bonafide Nigerian citizen. He lives here in Nigeria. He will never go to any country to look for asylum. Why should he look for asylum? All arrangements are on ground to ensure that he is flown to India where he will be going on medical vacation. The Nigerian Army on Wednesday offered explanation for the killing of three policemen on covert duties in Taraba State by its personnel. The explanation was offered in a statement by the spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa. The Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Frank Mba, had earlier in the day said three operatives in the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, headed by DCP Abba Kyari, were killed by the soldiers in Taraba State despite identifying themselves as being on covert operation to arrest one Alhaji Hamisu, a suspected kidnapper. Hamisu was said to have been involved in several crimes, collecting N100 million as ransom during one of such operations. However, Mba said as Hamisu was being driven to the Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo, they were engaged in fierce shooting by soldiers, resulting in the death of three policemen, a civilian and the escape of the suspect. But Musa countered Mba, saying the IRT operatives refused to stop at three military checkpoints and then engaged the soldiers in a shootout. He said some villagers had raised the alarm that the operatives were in an unmarked bus and refused to stop at the checkpoints, which resulted in the soldiers giving them a hot chase. On the unfortunate incident that occurred on the 6th of August 2019 in which troops of 93 Battalion Nigerian Army Takum pursued and exchanged fire with some suspected Kidnappers who indeed turned out to be an Intelligence Response Team from the Police Force Headquarters Abuja on a covert assignment from Abuja resulting in the death and injury of some members of the Team. On the 6th of August 2019, the said Nigerian Army troops, while responding to a distress call to rescue a kidnapped victim exchanged fire with the suspected kidnappers along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba State. The suspected kidnappers numbering about ten (10) and driving in a white bus with Reg No LAGOS MUS 564 EU refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive check points. The flagrant refusal of the suspected kidnappers to stop at the three checkpoints prompted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects by the troops. It was in this process that the suspected kidnappers who were obviously armed opened fire at the troops sporadically thus prompting them to return fire. In the resultant fire fight, four (4) suspects were shot and died on the spot while four (4) others sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and 2 others reportedly missing. It was only after this avoidable outcome that one of the wounded suspects disclosed the fact that they were indeed Policemen dispatched from Nigerian Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja for a covert assignment.
