The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Governor Aminu Tambuwal to sack any incompetent officials in his government in the interest of the development of the state.

The Sultan stated this when he visited the governor at Government House in Sokoto on Tuesday as part of Sallah celebrations.

The monarch said, “Leaders in the state should differentiate between politics and governance.

The period of politics is over, hence we should unite and work together for the progress of the state.”

Tambuwal said his administration was planning to adopt the Indonesian interest-free loan scheme for the benefit of small and medium business owners.

He said during his recent visit to Indonesia, he saw many programmes that could be adopted for the benefit of the people of Sokoto.

The governor promised that the Zakat and Endowment programme would be run devoid of politics.

Tambuwal also said the state government would aim to provide employment opportunities for youths in the state.

He thanked the Sultan and members of the Sultanate Council and district heads for their support for his administration.

A Pennsylvania reptile sanctuary shared video of a snake that had to be rescued from itself when it swallowed several inches of its own tail.

The Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary shared video of Jesse Rothacker helping out the eastern kingsnake that became a real-life ouroboros by swallowing 10 inches of its own tail.

Rothacker said it’s not unusual for a confused kingsnake to bite itself, but it’s rare that they manage to swallow their own tails.

They will sometimes see their own tail, they’ll think it’s snake, they’ll take a bite out of it and they’ll realize they bit themselves,” the rescuer says in the footage.

Two men, Kasumu Dada and Ashimiu Sheidu, have appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing recharge cards worth N150,000 and N300,000 cash from a shop.

Dada, 20, and Sheidu, 50, who both live in Agege, Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and receiving stolen property.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Sergeant Ishola Samuel said the duo committed the offences on July 18, at 10:15am, at Shop 26, Ashade Phase 11 Market, Agege.

He alleged that Dada stole the money and the recharge cards from the shop of the complainant, Mrs. Joy Samuel and gave them to Sheidu.

“Sheidu received the items from Dada with the knowledge that they were stolen,” the prosecutor said.

He said the offences contravened sections 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate A. I. Abina admitted the duo to N100,000 bail each with one surety each in the like sum.

She adjourned the case till August 26.

THE Nigerian Air Force said at the weekend that scores of Boko Haram terrorists have been neutralised as air strikes targetted at their command structures were conducted at the fringes of Sambisa Forest.

Its spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said in a statement that the strikes were conducted after intelligence report indicated the presence of the terrorists in the area.

Daramola added that the strikes followed the launch of “Operation Green Sweep 3” by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole.

The statement reads: “In a renewed offensive aimed at further eliminating remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province Terrorists (BHT/ISWAP) in the Northeast of Nigeria, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has launched Operation GREEN SWEEP 3, which targets some identified terrorists’ positions in Borno State.

In furtherance of the operation, the ATF on 9 August successfully destroyed a BHT Command and Control Centre at Dusula on the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

The operation was executed after series of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions led to the identification of the Command Centre with its solar panels, communications equipment and other facilities.

The 3 Alpha Jets dispatched by the ATF engaged the location in multiple passes, recording accurate hits on the target area.”

The statement added: “The structures housing the Command Centre were completely destroyed by the strikes while several of the terrorists were neutralised.

The few surviving terrorists, who were seen attempting to flee the area, were taken.

The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its operations against the terrorists in the Northeast.

A video of one National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) official lashing out a youth corper who rocked her NYSC uniform in a different style has surfaced on the internet.

In the video, a Muslim corp member who converted her NYSC uniform into a skirt as a result of her religion was seen being chased away by the coordinator in charge of area.

The NYSC official can be seen shouting at the lady, asking her to get a letter from the state coordinator to confirm her dress code.

It was time-up for six suspected internet fraudsters, better known as "Yahoo Boys" on Wednesday August 7, 2019, as operatives of EFCC, an early morning raid, stormed their apartment on No.28b Church Road Uyo.

The suspects are: Ugochukwu Ndukwu (a 25-years-old disc jockey, DJ); Stanley Ibeh, 27 (who claimed to be an interior decorator); Godwin Akpan and John Larry, aged 26 and 24 respectively, who both said they are students; Godwin Ini Obot, 27 who claimed to be a cinematographer and 24-year-old Victor Ejiogu, who said he was a serving member of National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC).

Even though the suspects claimed to be involved in different legitimate lines of businesses and academic pursuits, forensic analysis of their laptops revealed scam mails and documents that established their involvements in internet fraud.

Upon their arrest, Victor Ejiogu, the 24-year-old NYSC member tried to conceal and destroy what would be incriminating evidences against them by throwing their laptops all the way down from the third floor of the three storey building where they live.

However, the Commission's forensic experts were able to power the laptops and retrieve the scam mails and fraudulent documents, the suspect wanted to destroy.

They are all currently making useful statements to the Commission and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Popular Nigerian musician, Augustine Kelechi, also known as Tekno, has released a music video titled ”Agege” and featuring Zlatan. The video shows a display of a lorry of half-naked girls dancing while along a Lagos road.

Recall that Tekno was quizzed by the police for throwing cash at scantily clad women dancing in a glass-sided van in Lagos.

Meanwhile, the FCTA has vowed that more buildings in Abuja would be demolished to open up the waterways that had constricted the waterways and ease the flow of water, just as 150 buildings have so far been demolished in flood-prone areas of Abuja.

Flood: FEMA cautions FCT residents against flash points(Opens in a new browser tab) Speaking at the stakeholders’ forum on flood mitigation and response coordination in Abuja, the FCT Permanent Secretary, Christian Ohaa said,

The FCT Administration will continue to remove structures constructed in violation of relevant laws and further complicate our flood risk.

So far, 150 of such structures have been removed in furtherance of the ongoing exercise to clear obstructions of waterways, in line with the Abuja city plan.

Nigeria will soon become number one in the global ranking of countries still practising Open Defecation (OD), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has said.

With 47 million still practising open defecation, Nigeria is ranked second behind India with 550 million.

India, which set 1st October 2019 to end open defecation, has succeeded in removing over 400 million in the last four years.

Breakdown by region in the country shows that the North Central has 53.9%; South West has 28%; South East 22.4%; North East 21.8%; South-South 17% and North West 10.3%.

Speaking at a two-day dialogue on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Specialist UNICEF Nigeria, Mr. Bioye Ogunjobi, said:” India has a plan to end open defecation by 1st October 2019, which will likely catapult Nigeria to the number one ranking. ”

He added: “Findings from the 2018 Water sanitation and Hygien National Outcome Routine Mapping survey reveals that 24 per cent of the population, about 47 million people, practice open defecation.”

He also disclosed that 761 of 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria still practice opening defecation.

Consequently, only 13 out of the 774 LGAs are open defecation free and out of which eight ( are through UNICEF supported intervention, four (4) in Cross River is through.

According to him, out of this 13 LGAs, six are from Cross River State namely: Obanliku; Bekwara;Yala; Ikom; Boki; and Yakurr respectively.

This was achieved according to him is as a result of community health rural sanitation.

On what the country needed to do to address the situation the UNICEF WASH specialist said efforts must be made to ensure the 47 million Nigeria currently without access to toilet are made to use toilets.
