Two female suicide bombers killed three civilians and wounded eight in a suspected Boko Haram attack in northeast Nigeria, emergency services said Wednesday. Graphic content / Red Cross officials attend to victims of a triple suicide bombing, which occured outside a hall in Konduga, 38 kilometres (24 miles) from the Borno state capital Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria, on June 17, 2019. Thirty people were killed late on June 16 in a triple suicide bombing in northeast Nigeria, emergency services reported, in an attack bearing the hallmarks of the Boko Haram jihadist group. Three bombers detonated their explosives outside a hall in Konduga, 38 kilometres (24 miles) from the Borno state capital Maiduguri, where football fans were watching a match on TV. The twin blasts tore through a crowd late Tuesday in the town of Mafa, some 50 kilometres (30 miles) from regional capital Maiduguri. The female bombers killed three people and wounded eight others,” Bello Danbatta, head of security for the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Borno state, told AFP. The assailants entered the town among a group of local women who had gone to fetch firewood for cooking, Danbatta said. The same toll, said the bombers waited until around 8:30pm (1930 GMT) before launching their attack. Boko Haram has been waging a 10-year insurgency in northeast Nigeria that has seen it repeatedly use female suicide bombers to attack soft targets such as mosques, markets and bus stations. Many of the bombers are young women and girls. The last suicide attack was in June when a triple bombing outside a hall where football fans were watching a match killed at least 30 people. Also on Tuesday, fighters burnt 11 houses and looted food in an attack on the village of Kotori, 12 kilometres (eight miles) outside Maiduguri, Danbatta said, adding that no one was hurt in that incident. Boko Haram’s decade-long campaign of violence has left some 27,000 people dead, displaced over two million across the region and spilt over into neighbouring countries. A 23-year-old nurse of two was sentenced to being for murdering her two daughters. She accepted 41 social media friend requests a day after she killed one of them. The woman, Louise Porton, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, The Telegraph has reported. The court noted that she killed her daughters when she felt that they “got in the way” of her sex life. Porton, a part-time model, suffocated three-year-old Lexi Draper and strangled 16-month-old Scarlett Vaughan in Rugby, Warwickshire in January and February 2018. She will serve a minimum 32-year sentence for the killings, the court ruled. The judge, Mrs. Justice Yip, described the murders as “evil” and “calculated.” These were blameless young children who were plainly vulnerable and ought to have been able to rely on their mother to protect and nurture them. Instead, you took their young lives away,” the Judge said. The judge noted that Porton had “no medical history or mental disorder” that could have served as reason for her action. In a victim impact statement read to court by the prosecution, the girls’ father, Chris Draper, said: “Why did Louise do something so evil to our beautiful daughters? “You are their mother, the person [who is] supposed to care for them, protect and love them. “They were just an inconvenience to you; how could you do this?” Draper said no punishment would ever be enough, as nothing will bring his daughters back.
