my brother the major problem is because am not in Nigeria my mother is the person over seeing the project and she is old and don't have ideas about building what i have done so far there is the ideas am get from NL .

Nursevee congrats on the great job you have done so far. Nearly done by God's grace.
Sorry for the initial unfortunate experience when you started. Most of us in diaspora have been victim of same or even worse at some point.

Even at this finishing stage, still be careful. Some artisans can be very evil and cheat you.

Some double the quantity of materials needed & still inflate the prices. grin cheesy

Get multiple quotes. Get whatsapp pics of every job (area) to be done & after it is done. Double-check surface area to be tiled, to German-floored, surface area of roof, measure everything using several people. Do not appear to be in a hurry.
Even cables for wiring etc.

Just when you think avenues to cheat you have reduced, they can still show you with finishing costs. Keep eyes peeled.

Great job.

He was even lucky he discovered early, my friends father was shipping cars for years to his brothers, even the houses at aba he sent money for was built and sold by same brothers while the wife was aware but she couldn't fight them. The wife even died of fibriod the brothers couldn't give her the husband's money for operation. The man was later incarcerated and finally deported, only to meet nothing on ground, he had to start from the scratch trying to train the only child which the wife produced. To even remarry no money, now the only child in her early twenties is affected by that same fibriod and the father can't even raise fund for her surgery.

Na wa o. Pathetic story.

But very common many years back.

Maybe better communication technology will reduce it now.

How can you say its not necessarily true whereas I see this quite frequently. It may be that YOU have not come across it as much as I have. Also not I mentioned specially cars and making claims, not taking picture in nice spots which anyone can do. That doesnt imply anything. For the record, I never stated nor said that it gives anyone the right, just that it encourages that type of behavior.

Lol. I have seen these things. Fact is it only feeds into what people already want to believe that. Taking pics near sports cars or whatever doesn't mean you own one. What I often hear visiting 9ja is home-based people comparing abroad based people: "Is it not the same abroad that Peter who has built a nice house and Paul without even a plot of land live?". " A lizard in 9ja cannot become a crocodile abroad". And similar stuff. They forget that not everyone in 9ja is Dangote.

Even in 9ja, are there not some people who naturally are boastful and show off unnecessarily?

A better informed set of people will know that you cannot just pick money on the streets in a foreign country. I knew that even before I left home.

I fully understand where this guy is coming from. Having lived most of my life abroad, I have seen and heard the craziest things. The most amazing was actually a father forging documents for his son to be sending money. The evil thing is the father of the guy had actually kicked out the guys mother years back to marry his secretary shocked Yet still the son was obedient. He was even sending money for the dads upkeep and his extended family. When he found out about the forged docs ( imagine 419ing your own blood, nigerians we hail thee) the guy cut of ties with the dad, who I regard as an ingrate.

On the other side though, those abroad should stopping forming/showing off to family back home which encourages this behavior. Sending pics of cars you dont own stating its one of your fleet, as well as bragging about how well off you have it whereas you are doing 3 jobs to survive is not helping the matter. This gives ppl back home the impression you have it way too easy.

This is not necessarily true. Go through fb profiles of most Nigerians in Nigeria. You will see that most pose for pictures at Shoprite, beside fine buildings and cars, in fine sitting rooms they do not own & other beautiful places. Only for them to say when chatting "bros, I dey roast o, wetin dey for me na? shocked shocked
Taking pics in fine places abroad does not equate to showing off. Everyone, Africans or whites take pics in beautiful places.

Even if the relatives abroad are actually doing well (I know many doing very well), it still gives nobody the right to dupe them.

Some folks living abroad duped some people to get to where they are, forgetting that their actions would one day come around undecided

or

giving the impression that they are doing well over there, why won't relatives down here swindle them?

If anyone duped people before, then they deserve to be duped too.
I know of some (very few) who actually duped to travel abroad and one of them is not even alive anymore.

But the vast majority have never duped anyone to get abroad. That is a fact. These are simply victims.

As for giving the impression that they are doing well abroad, how does that make it right to dupe them? So if your neighbour or brother is doing well, you can simply dupe him if you get the chance to, and feel it is the right thing to do? shocked shocked That's a criminal mentality.

Now, if a relative lives abroad and works hard and helps out whenever he is asked to. Not because he has too much, but because he empathises with those he left at home, how does that give the impression that he's doing well abroad. Most Western countries have a social welfare system in place that greatly reduces the number of the very poor (who cannot afford food or shelter). Living abroad gives you a better sense of social justice &, empathy & equity. Being moved to help those at home is NOT pretending (giving the impression) to be doing well abroad.

In the same way you claim they pretend to be doing well abroad, others also ask that when they refuse to assist relatives at home, why won't relative dupe them? It seems you just cannot please some people.

In my decades of personal experience and of observing this trend, I came to the conclusion that:

(1) Ignorance about life abroad among most home-based Nigerians is staggering. And most are unwilling to learn or believe when you even tell them the truth. Even some who go abroad on holiday still do not get it.
(2) Some family members and friends are simply greedy. Others suffer from poverty mentality.
(3) The corrupt disposition that affects all facets of Nigerian life is same within families. Many criminally want to reap where they did not sow.
(4) Many family members have a sense of entitlement to your money.

My aunty's house was just beside the stadium then. Tales abound of massive crowds when these two teams faced each other. Same with Shooting Stars.

Insurance, Rangers and Shooting dominated that era. With Mighty Jets of Jos & Racca Rovers of Kano also making impact.

Selling moi moi by a graduate now a big deal

what's so special in been a graduate if i may ask?

The reason why Nigeria is so fuckedup s because we've placed so much emphasis on education

mumu country.

Bill gate, mark zuckerberg of this world didn't see the four walls of university but look where they are today.

Only in Nigeria our so called graduates who can't even spell out their own name correctly get juicy jobs while the ones with brain are left with no choice than go abroad to look for greener pasture.

Oga soffri with the bobos na, ah ah. In fact both were admitted to Harvard University. Though did not finish.

Bill Gates scored 1590 out of 1600 in SAT. Anyone who ever applied to a top US university knows what it is. He was a National Merit Scholar in High School. With two years in Harvard before leaving. He was doing Bachelor's programme to enable him later do Doctor Of Jurisprudence (JD) degree, US's primary law degree. Even doing rigorous maths & graduate level computer science course while there. With the wide course modules offered in US universities.

Both entered possibly the world's top university. Nor be beans oga. shocked shocked

Lots of comedians and actors are introverts in real life. Even many good teachers.

I have seen introverts doing all the jobs. Successfully too.

Though some jobs might come more naturally to extroverts.

Politics / Re: FG Releases N388Billion To 17 States (See Full List) by ManOfThePeople(m): 9:10am On Jan 08, 2017
sparrowkid:
It's a pity that nobody bothers to ask for the source of this money. Afterall, Paris Club and London club debts were settled by Obasanjo's administration. Our governors who devoured the excess crude account could not have known of the existence of this repaid fund without tearing the federal government to shreds in order to have their shares of the fund.

How can a whole nation paid more than it's owing? The reasonable explanation is that this money has been there since; known and enjoyed only by very few people in the presidency. Another one is that it was probably exposed by the tsa. Quite frankly, going by Nigerian standards, this money should have gone the ways of others ordinarily. This is exactly why one must know that something good is happening up there. If this one was also embezzled just like others, we wouldn't even feel it because we aren't aware of its existence in the first place. We just hope the governors would behave responsibly with it so that we can at least bring back our economy. God bless Nigeria.

You made some sense until this bit.

As you said, we have no idea where the money comes from. It could be so called recovered loot or other FG funds.

Just because FG just gave X amount as New year gift to mostly irresponsible state governors doesn't mean FG has not embezzled 4X or X/2 amount of money. Clearly the transparency APC/Buhari promised is utopia.

GEJ also always foolishly doled out funds to State governors, including much from excess crude account. Opposition/APC governors who were among the champions asking for the money to be shared and benefitted immensely were among GEJ's fiercest critics over money squandering later. The money helped states stay afloat, paid salaries & helped economic boom but it also encouraged laziness of state governors.

Rest assured that these monies being doled out to states without transparency will be used to explain away huge missing funds in the months and years to come by APC/FG.

I repeat, our quality of health and our health system is only better than that of Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar
embarassed

.

You have to realise that our health score is most negatively impacted by high infant/maternal mortality rate, VVF etc. Much of it due to child marriage and lower vaccine uptake in the North. The very area represented by key figures of APC. When conservative, feudalistic religious fanatic people like Buhari represent the so-called progressive wing of our politics, rest assured that they'd even do worse than the current regime.
