Are christians supposed to fight back or just pray and fast?
Clear persecution against Muslims.

Self-defence does not involve marching halfway across the world to butcher pregnant women and babies, slaughter defenceless civilians and roast small children on stakes. There was nothing “defensive" about it.

Sunnis, Shia, Jews, Copts, Orthodox Christians? Who cares, the Crusaders indiscriminately massacred them all in cold blood.

The position of the council was that there were Christians off to the east suffering under the oppression of infidels, and war against those infidels in defense of those Christians was justified. There was no indication whatsoever that anyone in western Europe felt at all threatened by encroaching Islam, nor that they were justified in reconquering Christian land, nor that this was retaliation for a long history of Muslim attacks. It was about coming to the defense of Christians elsewhere who were in need. It was about going somewhere else to help someone else, not self-defense.

So much history we know nothing about.

It's estimated that the death toll from the Crusades is two to six million people just from Western Europe. And just to put that into perspective, the European population at the time was about 60 to 70 million folks.

The Quran acknowledges Christians as “People of the Book,” along with Jews, recognizing the divine revelations they have received.

For instance, the Catholic Church brutally suppressed competing faiths, such as the Cathars and Hussites, to re-establish its dominance over Christianity in Europe.
