I will not bother myself with any debates with Jonathan attack dogs on this forum. Jonathan Goodluck is an ethnic minority and the only way he will win elections in Nigeria is if he is a very brilliant guy with charisma. debates like this would have given him opportunity to demonstrate that brilliance, if he shy away from it it will be Jonathan's own loss. Because without some extra-ordinary brilliance from Jonathan; next years elections will be based on sentiments and if the election is based on tribal sentiments there is no way an Ijaw man will win an election in Nigeria. They don't even make up 10% of the population. So after all the noise on Nairaland and all the online forums. We will come down to square one and Jonathan will fall flat. |
Absolute crap!!!!! The last time I checked a subsisting court Judgement takes precedence over any opinions or yet to be decided charges filed by any fool. You guys think Justice Gunmi who recognised PDP's right to include zoning in its selection process is foolish? Actually Mr Paul Abbey is fooling himself and shooting himself and GEJ on the foot, He can not take Atiku or Ciroma to court without actually asking a court of law to pronoun section 7-2c of PDP constitution illegal. If that is wants he wants to do then he should start by including PDP as a party as a defendant in his suit. |
Pharoh:We don't even have the moral right to do that. Ivory Coast is in trouble today because their electoral commission stood up for what is right. Here in Nigeria we have failed to introduce reforms because dodgy laws introduced on behalf of the President failed. There is no internal democracy in PDP, the party makes up the rules as they go along to suit the President, while the Presidency engages in bribery of all they can including Pastors, opinion leaders and Journalists. And yet we want to go and impose democracy that we dont have on Ivoriens. Ghana and South Africa should lead the effort to get Gbagbo to step down, nothing in our records says we have the moral right to lecture anyone else on democracy. |
The trouble is this group of people are trying to export democracy they don't have to Ivory Coast. They forget that the reason that Ivory Coast is in a crisis today is because they constituted a truly independent electoral commission willing to stand up for what is right. here in Nigeria the rules keep changing by the day, the goal post keeps shifting just to favour one candidate and yet we want to impose values we don't have on Ivory Coast. |
It will be interesting to see how a Nigerian Presidency that does not have the decency to either accept or ignore their loss in a PDP online poll, a virtual election; can now lecture Laurent Gbagbo on how to accept defeat in a REAL election. |
Pastor Adeboye has clearly done well for himself. Since Jonathan does not believe in his own policies to take Nigeria out of the woods except for devine intervention; then Jonny boy should consider handing over to the Pastor who from his judgement is closer to God to run Nigeria for us. This is an admission of cluelessness and helplessness. It is one thing to pray to God for wisdom, it is quite another to say that great policies and strategies just can't work without devine intervention. Whatabout countries who have been successful even they don't pray to the same God or pray to nothing at all? You know the future of a country is bleak when mediocres are elevated to the highest office in the land. The only person smilling right now is Adeboye and I am sure he will be smiling to the Bank on Monday morning. |
Nothing has changed. 3 Months to election, no new electoral register. 10 Months after Jonathan came to office INEC will conduct elections in Delta State with old electoral register The pretence of internal democracy in the PDP has been fed to the dogs because the President feels a rigorous process might not favour him. Staggered PDP Primaries is discarded while the President openly promises automatic tickets for PDP Governors. Something as trivial as a pre-announced schedule of PDP Primaries was almost changed because the President curiously believes that somehow the order of primaries affects his chances. And yet in the face of all these glaring failures the cash-for-endorsement scam has been the order of the day. The future of this country is bleak if Jonathan is not stopped. It is that simple. |
Constitution amendment: Govs, Reps end feud •Amended constitution now "sleeping document" •INEC reverts to 1999 constitution for 2011 elections | Print | E-mail Written by Idowu Samuel, Abuja Sunday, 12 December 2010 The cut throat rivalry between members of the National Assembly and state governors over constitution amendment which seeks to make federal lawmakers members of National Executive Committee (NEC) of their respective political parties has come to naught after all. This is because implementation of the amendment as contained in the new Electoral Act as proposed would not take effect until the next legislative session, going by the latest developments in the House of Representatives. Notwithstanding, the House is set to pass the controversial amendment on NEC membership on Tuesday, whereas, the amendment if passed would be kept on hold, and would not come to effect in the current legislative session, in spite of the hullabaloo the proposed amendment had caused of late. At the moment, every effort by the Senate and the House of Representatives to amend the 1999 Constitution had ended a nullity, the Court having declared all the amendments inchoate; un-implementable pending the final dispensation of litigation against the proposed amendment by the National Assembly. Indication to this effect emerged at the close of legislative business last week when the House leadership shelved its decision to constitute the membership of Harmonisation Committee for the final passage of the Bill on Constitution Amendment on the basis that the Bill was yet to get into Third Reading. During the sitting, the Presiding Speaker, Honourable Bayero Nafada had read the names of members who are to constitute the Harmonisation Committee, but was promptly advised not to do so because the Bill on Constitution amendment was yet to be passed for Third Reading. There have been heated controversy over the amendment proposed to the First Amendment Act by the National Assembly to the effect that members of the National Assembly would henceforth be members of NEC of their parties, that being a ploy to weaken the stranglehold of state governors on the parties. The House Commiteee Chairman on Rules and Business, Honourable Ita Enang who offered advice on the shelving of the constitution of the Committee said, “This committee was set up in anticipation of the Third Reading that we will do. The conference committee can only start work when we have done the Third Reading on Tuesday next week. Ita Enang, however, explained that the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill does not mean that the amendment would become operational, stating that the passage would only be held in abeyance until all technical issues surrounding the constitution amendment were addressed. The chairman House Committee on Rules and Business reiterated that at the moment, the Independent National Electoral Commission has the leave to conduct its programmes on the elections in lines with 1999 Constitution, the Court having declared the amendments proposed by the National Assembly to the constitution in-operative. He added, “The first amendment to the 1999 Constitution that we made has not come into effect because the court had nullified it. So it is now a sleeping document. And unless the President assents to it, it has not become the constitution. The same thing applied to the second amendment. “It has even now become very dangerous for us to take it to the President for assent because, if the President signs it, and it becomes a law, INEC will be forced to conduct elections in January. So that will be a great setback. Therefore, what we are doing now, based on the First and Second amendment to the constitution, is null and void because that constitution has not come into effect and it cannot come into effect now. The National Assembly had devoted much attention to the task of amending the 1999 constitution, but the process suffered a major set back when a high court sitting in Lagos declared the First Amendment Act a nullity on the basis that the Nigerian President must sign the constitution to become operative. Both the Senate and the House had initially proclaimed the constitution operational, insisting that the amendment effected on the 1999 constitution required no assent of the President to become operational. |
^^^^ Making Akanu Ibiam an International Airport is no big deal, even an ordinary Minister of Aviation with the right case for more International Airports in Nigeria especially one close to Nigeria's Commerce Hub; can achieve it. It can easily be achieved by executive fiat. But issues like more states are more serious and needs to be passed through the NASS. Jonathan can not deliver that on his own and has not shown that he has the right leadership skills to influence the NASS on key issues. So if Jonathan get re-elected; expect another 4years of passive Government and the last 10months of Jonathan administration tells you that. He will not achieve much in office. He is not smart enough to lead a LGA. He should go home. |
ping pong:The guys is throwing away his chance to leave the stage with grace!!!! This is very unfortunate and I feel sorry for Jonny Boy. His legitimate time in office ends May 29 and he will defintely leave. But how he leaves is entirely up to Jonathan and this will affect how he will be remembered. |
These are election time desperation. People with these sort of behaviour can never be trusted when they don't need your votes. |
He should tell us his programmes and stick to that. He can consider himself whatever he likes, it changes nothing. If he is Igbo then he should follow the lead of his Igbo brothers in the East who have chosen to wait for their own turn for the sake of peace and stability of the country. It is the turn of the North and responsible Igbos have decided to support the North in 2011 so they can finish their remaining 4years. |
na_so:Interprete the bolded text let us hear ?Also include in your interpretations the recent substantive Court Judgement by Justice Gunmi on this matter. Put all of it in perspective let us hear. |
ARTICLE 2http://www.peoplesdemocraticparty.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=34&Itemid=37 The Civilised thing for Jonathan to do is to leave the PDP. A court of law has recognised PDP's right to have zoning in its constitution and has also said it should be binding on all it members. The best way for Jonathan to dissociate himself with zoning, is to quit PDP. If he remains in PDP he has the moral burden of participating in a process which a susbstantive court Judgement insinuates he should not participate. This is a recipe for lawlessness. Let him leave PDP if he can not respect zoning. There is no need causing confusion in the country. |
The most laughable thing is that the endorsing Governors include: Niger Zamfara Bauchi Kebbi Taraba Kogi Katsina Imo If Jonathan really thinks he will get more delegates in any of these States than Atiku then all of Jonathan's aides and loyalists are simply lying to him. I am sorry but the President lives in disneyland. Not even the deployment of Armoured Tanks at the PDP Primaries will save him. The choice of how Jonathan falls is up to Jonathan, he can either do it in dignity or he will be disgraced and risk going straight to prison after May 29, 2011. |
Ochi_Agha:Exactly!!! Which is why sometimes I wonder if Chyz is an Ijaw man posing to be Igbo. Ndigbo are not interested in risking the blood of its citizens to pursue the interest of any fool who his forefathers where so happy to betray us just so they can inherit our abandoned property. let all man carry their cross. Zoning is the best thing for us right now because not only does it guarantee the participation of all people from all parts of the country, it also better guarantees the security of our people post election because there are more Igbos scattered all around Nigeria running one trade or the other. Anybody threatning war with the North on behalf of Jonathan are on their own, The SouthEast and Ndigbo as a people can not be part of such madness. Let the Ijaws go to war with the North if they like, it will be really nice for us to be the spectators this time. |
alj harem:stop posting crap, you are not a Northerner. |
emerging dictatorship ? |
chyz:shut the Bleep up!!! |
Jonathan's private bodygaurds reacts!!!! May be the country will rather prefer a President that is confident in the Nigerian Army. |
yeswecan:And then as soon as Ogbulafor resigned as PDP Chairman the EFCC call vanished? Is that the Nigeria of your dreams under GEJ? The EFCC is an anti-corruption agency and not a GEJ Political enforcement agency. |
20 PDP governors endorse Jonathan* It's of no significance, says AtikuWhats the implication of Isa Yuguda endorsing Jonathan? Thats one guaranteed delegate from Bauchi. But as about 20 members of Bauchi House has declared their support for a Northern candidate' Isa Yuguda's endorsement is of no consequence. The endorsement by Ohakim is only worth the papeer it is writen because the dumping of Jonathan in the SouthEast will begin from Imo State. Does this communique really believe the Niger State Governor will support Jonathan? Do they really believeJonathan will get more delegates than Atiku in Niger, Kogi, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba? Some people definitely live in disneyland. |
The PDP presidential aspirant argued that accusing him of causing tension is like putting the saddle on the wrong horse. According to him, no Nigerian leader in recent memory has caused so much bitterness, division, suspicions and animosity among Nigerians like President Goodluck Jonathan because of his ambition to run in 2011.Word!!! The trouble is that these ambitions are impure, baseless and blind. Jonathan should not be allowed to destroy Nigeria. |
Hold Jonathan Responsible For Tensions - Atiku Thu Dec, 16 2010 Former Vice President and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has rejected allegations of escalating tension over his widely reported comment on the consequences of resisting change. In a statement in Abuja by his Campaign organization, the former Vice President said his comment at a stakeholders’ conference in Abuja on Wednesday was borne out of historical reality when the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy warned against the consequences of making peaceful change impossible. He maintained that the statement should be taken in its historical context in terms of bitter experiences injustice has caused around the world. The PDP presidential aspirant argued that accusing him of causing tension is like putting the saddle on the wrong horse. According to him, no Nigerian leader in recent memory has caused so much bitterness, division, suspicions and animosity among Nigerians like President Goodluck Jonathan because of his ambition to run in 2011. Atiku recalled that a serving federal minister in this administration once threatened that Nigeria could face dire consequences if President Jonathan was forced out of the presidential race. He wondered how a president that tore the PDP apart and caused so much bitterness within his own ruling party because of his ill-advised ambition could turn round and accuse anyone else of causing tension. The presidential aspirant asked his critics to appeal to the conscience of President Jonathan to lead by example. The statement recalled that with previous scheming to hang a badge of infamy on the necks of his political opponents over the October 1, 2010 bomb blasts, the latest attacks on Atiku was a typical desperate measure to divert attention and blame opponents for causing tension in the country. http://www.thetimesofnigeria.com/Article.aspx?id=3059 |
yeswecan:Right now you want to invent your own democracy abi? where you not the one telling me how our democracy must conform with the rest of Europe and america yesterday? What changed? talk about making it up as they go along. Jonathan Goodluck is not party leader of the PDP but singlehandedly bullied Vincent Ogbulafor to resign. Obasanjo was not Party leader when he was President but singlehandedly got Audu Ogbeh to resign. You people need to grow up, lets have clear rules and obey them. If you loose you go and regroup and try another time. Thats how politics works everywhere; lets stop making up the rules as we go along. |
Yeswecan Do you have Presidents in Parliamentary system of Government? for the record the bit I highlighted contains the following: In many representative democracies, party leaders compete directly for high political office. For example, leaders of parties in presidential and semi-presidential republics will often run for PresidentSo I really don't know why something as simple as this is so difficult for you guys to understand. And this behaviour is characteristics of most GEJ supporters, you don't know whether they simply have half-baked knowledge of everything or whether they are simply very selective in reasoning. Eitherway they are useless because most of their political arguments don't add up. |
Chyz Is this a face saving move or are you just taking your selective too far? What happened to the rest of the definition in the link I gave you? Ok let me help you. In politics, the party leader is the most powerful official within a political party. What happened to the bit in bold? why did you ignore it? Anybody who know Nigerian Politics will tell you that the President also doubles as the party leader. |
Hold Jonathan Responsible For Tensions - Atiku http://www.thetimesofnigeria.com/Article.aspx?id=3059 Jonathan is learning politics. When Atiku finish with him he will learn how to play Politics. |
chyz:Okwesilieze Nwodo is PDP Chairman. The Party Leader is the Party Flagbearer who could be the President or Prime Minister if the Party gets into power or win elections. So Jonathan is the National PDP Party Leader at the moment, because he is the President on that Party. Just like Soludo is still the PDP Leader in Anambra eventhough he did not win elections. This is why I say you have a lot to learn in politics. You should do more listening when Political animals and Natural spin doctors speak!!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_leader |
Beaf:He is the party leader. If he can not respect the rules under which he became party leader, let him quit PDP. That is the sensible thing to do. This will not prevent him from continuing as the President of Nigeria. It just simply means PDP can not sponsor him at the next election. That is the fair and moral thing to do. The moral burden will be on Jonathan if Nigeria goes in flames after elections. He simply refused to respect the rules he rode to power, that is the source of the crisis. |
They will not do jack GEJ should respect his party's constitution. You can not forment trouble and turn around to charge those who reacted to the trouble you formented for treason. This is pure Dictatorship and Tyranny of the highest order. There is nothing GEJ will do, let him respect his party constitution. We will see how a man who embraces terrorists posing as militants who murdered Nigerian soldiers in battle will now have the guts to charge a former vice President and elder statesman for treason. "Those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable". That is the plain fact. |
?

. You better learn how to fight in the court of law!
