Super Eagles striker, Emenike Emenike believes the playing surface at the Municipal Stadium, Khartoum is to blame for the lackluster display and 0-1 defeat to the Falcons of Jediane in 2015 Afcon qualifying. The game was played on artificial surface on Saturday and Abd Elgadir Babeker Bakri struck the only goal of the contest on 42 minutes to keep the qualification hopes of the African champions hanging by a thread. Emenike, who is on the books of Turkish club, Fernabahce has now moved to explain the less-than-appealing display of the Super Eagles on Saturday. “(The pitch) we played on (on) Saturday is (worse) than when we were playing street football. CAF must act to stop nonsense like this from happening and they deliberately took us there (Khartoum) because they know we play on better pitches,” Emenike said. On his part, midfielder, John Mikel Obi said he was disappointed in reports in some sections of the local media dismissing Nigeria’s chances of reaching the Afcon finals in Morocco. “Why I can’t still believe how and why we lost that game it’s important to move ahead and for those saying we don’t deserve to be in Morocco, I think that is unfortunate and we must stop spreading that negativity because it gets to the team,” he said. Mikel also echoed the sentiments of Emenike as regards the pitch in Kahrtoum stating that the playing surface was not the best he’s played in. “The pitch we played in was awful. You can’t move, the ball bounces when you want to control it and when you shoot it goes the wrong direction, it was a nightmare playing on that pitch,” he said. Nigeria can still reach the Afcon if they win their remaining three matches and South Africa defeats Congo at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane on Wednesday. Ejide said it is important for Nigerians to united and throw their weight behind the team if set goals are to be realized. “It’s at times like this that we need the media and all of Nigerians but what we hear is condemnation, crucify them. That will not help the team,” he said. Nigeria will meet Sudan in their next game in Abuja on Wednesday before visiting the Stade Municipal, Pointe-Noire for a date with Congo in their penultimate game in qualifying on November 15. The Super Eagles then round up their 2015 Afcon qualifying campaign with a home game against South Africa on November 19. |
onatisi:u have a point |
hayzed2:then change up we need a coach now! |
now is not the time for keshi to go n put pressure on someone else, he should complete the qualifications phase n then pack his bags. when someone put pride before anything the end justify It, now we know we must live sentiment wen handling national issue Nigeria is not keshi's sitting room,we need results oriented not ego driven! |
Afcon Group A Qualifier Teams : Sudan v Nigeria Venue : Khartoum International Stadium Date : 11 October 2014 The Nigerian Super Eagles take on Sudan in a crucial Afcon Group A qualifier at the Khartoum International Stadium on Saturday evening. Stephen Keshi's men will be targeting an away victory after finding themselves winless after their two opening games. Sudan are in a similar position, that is without a win, having lost to South Africa at home and Congo-Brazzaville away. As expected Vincent Enyeama has returned to the Super Eagles XI after being unavailable for the first two qualifiers. Following reports of money exchanging hands during the last elections into the board of the Nigeria Football Federation in Warri, newly elected President of the NFF Amaju Pinnick has admitted to spending money to win his election. Reports have emanated since the Warri elections that some individuals paid money to the delegates to get elected unto the board, and Pinnick has confirmed to SL10.ng that he did use money for his election, but denies it was used to bribe anybody. "I can tell you that there is no election you don't spend money," he started. "But it is not to bribe people," he claimed. "You can use money for logistics, like people coming, you fly them in and make them happy. Even Obama spent money in his elections. He had a trust fund. "So I'm not going to tell you that I didn't spend money. I spent money but not the volume of money everybody is talk because everybody spent money. "Everybody that contested in that election spent money but it's not to say you'd use the money to bribe people. Or are you saying I do not merit it," he asked rhetorically. The 44-year old also dismissed suggestions that money also exchanged hands before former President Aminu Maigari was announced as a life honorary President of the NFF. "I can tell you that's a cooked up story because where am I getting the money to pay and why should I pay, there's no truth in that. "I sought the approval of my board members to name Maigari as the honorary life President because we felt he had done well by qualifying Nigeria for all the major competitions. And we thought he probably has some magic wand," Pinnick concluded. |
Dolphins of Port Harcourt forward Emem Eduok has confirmed that he has been called up by interim Nigeria manager Stephen Keshi for back-to- back African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan. Chelsea loanee Victor Moses has been ruled out of both games after picking up a thigh injury during Stoke City's clash against Sunderland last weekend. The National Team handlers have moved quickly to replace the crocked winger with former Flying Eagles striker Emem Eduok, who has smashed in 13 goals in the domestic championship this season. Speaking to SL10.ng on Monday afternoon, Eduok said: “The Nigeria Football Federation called the coach and the media officer yesterday (Sunday) to inform them I have been invited to replace Victor Moses.” “This will be my first time in the national team, and I feel very happy about it. As a young and talented player, I hope to prove myself in camp. “I'm now on my way to Abuja to join the rest of the invited players.” The 20-year-old starred for the Flying Eagles at the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, playing in matches against Cuba and Korea Republic. |
