Ogun yet to take possession Of Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos Expressway - Abiodun's aide Work is yet to begin on the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos Expressway because the Ogun State Government is still waiting for final approval of the concessioning of the road from the Federal Government. It will be recalled that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced in October last year, during a briefing after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Aso Villa, that the Federal Government had finally concessioned the all important road to the Ogun State Government to reconstruct after several efforts made to that effect by the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration. The reconstruction was to be carried out under the Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI), with the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Federal Ministry of Finance to be involved in the process. Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, speaking on the latest development on Monday, said that although there is a presidential approval for the concessioning, there is no EXTRACT from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approving the concessioning. According to Akinmade, the procedure for the concessioning is not complete without FEC's EXTRACT paper. He noted that after deliberation and approval, the FEC will issue an extract from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), transferring the road to the Ogun State Government. The special adviser said that the Ogun State Government is waiting anxiously for the FEC's nod to proceed with the project. He added that the FEC Extract is needed to raise funds for the project and also discuss with investors. Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya had earlier said the state administration had been providing palliatives to make the roughly 70km road manageable for motorists. "Ogun State has been rehabilitating the road since 2019. We keep doing palliative works because the governor is always concerned about the suffering being experienced by the people. He remains concerned about the deplorable state of the road until he got what he wanted from the federal government. "With the transfer done now, we are happy and ready to immediately take over the project and turn around the fortunes of the road. It's what we've been looking for, praying for since we came on board. We will take over immediately, subject to paperwork between us and the federal ministry," he had said.

Prince Abiodun stated this on Saturday to mark the 48th anniversary of the creation of the state. Ogun was created in 1976 by the regime of the late General Murtala Mohammed. The governor noted that despite various challenges, the Gateway State has become one of the most prosperous states in Nigeria through the efforts of successive administrations. Prince Abiodun praised the contributions of his predecessors who, he said, laid the foundation of what the state is today. The governor also praised the people of the state for peacefully co-existing with one another in the last 48 years without communal crises, even as he called on them to maintain such unity for the progress of the state. Prince Abiodun assured that his administration will continue with the upward growth trajectory of the state through the 'Building Our Future Together' mantra as encapsulated in ISEYA. He said: "On this momentous occasion, I extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Ogun State as we celebrate the 48th anniversary of our beloved state. "Since its creation on this day in 1976, Ogun State has witnessed tremendous growth and development in various sectors. Ogun Assembly Crisis: Abiodun, APC To Intervene, Call For Restraint The Government of Ogun State has keenly taken note of the events on the floor of the Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday regarding the alleged impeachment of the Speaker of the Assembly, Honourable Olakunle Oluomo, by members of the legislative arm during a sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Bolanle Ajayi. Working with the leadership of our Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Government intends to see all the contending issues resolved in a democratic, fair, and just manner. There had been internal wrangling in the Assembly that had persisted and degenerated despite several interventions. The Ogun State Government notes that the Honourable Members have openly stated that their grouse is not with the Governor, whom they again pledged their loyalty to. It is the prerogative of members of the House of Assembly to chose their leadership in line with the constitution and the law guiding the conduct of the Assembly. Given that the Ogun electorate gave us a mandate to represent their best interests and deliver democratic dividends that will significantly improve their well-being, the Ogun State Government, along with the Party leadership, have intervened to ensure that whatever disagreement members have is resolved peacefully and amicably, so that the delivery of democratic dividends to our people will not be hampered in any way. The Ogun State Government considers all members of the House of Assembly as partners in the Building our Future agenda and will always prioritise issues that affect them. E signed. Kayode Akinmade Special Adviser to the Governor on Media.

The Timi of Ede land, HRM, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa the 1st, has felicitated Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, who hails from the ancient town on his elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. This was contained in a press statement personally signed by the monarch and made available to the newsmen by the palace Director of media and Public Communication, Dapo Akinyele, in Ede on Thursday. The Royal father eulogized AIG Wale Abass for his dedication to duty, resilience and doggedness which every Ede indigene is known for, adding that AIG Wale Abass is a courageous Officer with the courage of his forebears as great warriors. The highly revered monarch also used the medium to pray for God guidance and protection over the new AIG, while also urging all sons and daughters of Ede, both at home and in the diaspora to be good ambassadors of the ancient town wherever they are. "On behalf of all Indigenes of Ede in Nigeria and in the diaspora, I heartily felicitate with AIG Wale Abass on his recent elevation to the exalted position of Assistant Inspector General of Police; it is indeed a profound reward of gallantry and diligence. Ogun APC demands apology from PDP, Adebutu The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its defeated governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, to “apologise publicly for all their political shenanigans against the governor, government and people of Ogun State”. Reacting to the publicised congratulatory message purportedly issued by the PDP to APC on the heels of last Friday Supreme Court verdict that affirmed the election of Prince Dapo Abiodun as duly elected governor of Ogun State, which put any doubt or controversy on the governorship election to rest, the APC in a statement by its spokesman, Tunde Oladunjoye, on Monday in Abeokuta, described the said PDP message of congratulation as “hearsay”. Oladunjoye said: “We read the message just like any other person or party, we saw it as hearsay. You know nothing is beyond the Ogun PDP, they can still deny authorship of the statement as they have done in the past. They had also said in the past that the olive branch extended to them by the peace-loving Governor Abiodun was an insult. Our party is yet to be formally communicated to and PDP’s defeated and loquacious candidate, Ladi Adebutu, is yet to put a call through to our victorious governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.” The statement recalled that, the defeated deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, who contested on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) against Prince Dapo Abiodun and APC in the 2019 gubernatorial election, was the only candidate that failed to congratulate Prince Dapo Abiodun till date. “Akinlade pursued his vainglorious governorship ambition desperately from the Tribunal in Abeokuta to the Court of Appeal in Ibadan and finally to the Supreme Court in Abuja and our party and candidate won unanimously at every stage of their perennial litigation. Even after the judgement of the Supreme Court, till date, Akinlade has not congratulated Prince Dapo Abiodun. “If the disembodied PDP is genuinely desirous of congratulating our party and candidate, we believe that a party like the PDP, that touts itself as leading opposition party not only in Ogun State but also in Nigeria, needs not to be tutored on the proper route to take and the impression to make on its defeated candidate to make the call to our victorious candidate and governor. We cannot receive such message from the ‘airwaves’. “If and when the party and its candidate formally felicitate our party and governor, we will then be sure about it. We are magnanimous in victory. We will only ask the party and its serial contestant, to apologise to the people, government and the Governor of Ogun State for all the childish attacks, libellous statements, insults and decorated falsehood perpetrated against Governor Dapo Abiodun, all in the name of politicking and electioneering. Ladi Adebutu, under the spur of God-knows-what, insulted almost everybody, the governor especially; even traditional rulers, our reverred royal fathers from Yewa land, were not spared. So, a flying message of congratulations will not address all that. The man should be bold enough to apologise publicly and rescind all the unprintable name-callings by himself, his party and their led-by-the-nose, cheeky, supporters. “Politics is not an excuse for unfounded allegations, libellous statements and unbridled insults on leaders and our revered traditional rulers. In political combats, there is a level you must not descend to, no matter your frustration or dampened hope. We must not fight like a pig in the gutter, because only God enthrones, and you cannot force yourself on the people. In anyway, the Ogun people have demonstrated at the polls that the seat of the governor of the Gateway state was not for sale and will never be for sale. It is beyond gambling. “On the hints of possible contest in 2027, we advise Ladi Adebutu to first address the allegations of money laundering and vote-buying hanging on his neck and take a deserved rest. He should take time to look after his health, which he claimed took him on medical vacation abroad for about eight months. Health is wealth; Adebutu should take proper diagnosis and treatment of his undisclosed ailments. We wish him good health and advise that he should place premium on solving his health challenges. It is only God and the people of Ogun State that will determine the governor of Ogun State in 2027. It is too early for Ladi Adebutu to embark on another visionless voyage of political misadventure. Man shall not live by contesting elections all the time. "Finally, we must thank the people of Ogun State for voting for our party and candidate; for keeping faith with us all through the months of distractions by the unpopular rabble rousers," the party concluded. |
NBC's latest ranking of Ogun and reaffirmation of Abiodun's savvy on digital economy By Olaniyi Ajibola The latest ranking of Ogun State alongside Lagos State as the top states in Nigeria with mobile Internet subscriptions in the year 2023 by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBC, has undoubtedly confirmed the speedy trajectory of digital economy by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, since his assumption of office in May 2019. NBC, on Thursday, on its official website in a report titled, ‘Telecoms Data: Active Voice and Internet per State, Porting and Tariff Information (Q2 2023) announced Lagos and Ogun as the top states, followed by Kano, Bayelsa and Zamfara in third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. According to the NBC's report, on state profile analysis, Lagos State had the highest number of active voice subscribers in Q2 2023 with 26,423,757, followed by Ogun with 12,976,190 and Kano with 12,129,536. In addition, Lagos State had the highest number of active internet subscribers in Q2 2023 with 18,868,376, followed by Ogun with 9,471,170 and Kano with 8,768,199. It would be recalled that in 2022, Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory were the top five states with mobile Internet subscriptions in Nigeria. Without mincing words, the State has maintained this top position in digital communications as a result of the enabling environment and necessary infrastructure provided by the government in the State as part of its ISEYA pillars of action, aimed at developing every strata of the State's economy through advanced technologies. The political will and commitment by the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, to resuscitate the economy of the State and make it functional through digitalisation is top notch, liberating the Gateway State from the previous analogue style of governance. Working assiduously and tirelessly to meet up with the global trajectory on Digital Economy; and to achieve his vision of total broadband coverage, Governor Dapo Abiodun launched the Digital Economy Infrastructure Project. This initiative was aimed to provide 5000 kilometers of optic fiber cables across the State, to the greatest interest of a lot of business owners as well as the teeming youths; as thousands of youths across the State, including girls, have already been trained at the Ogun State Tech Hub to prepare them for the emerging digital economy not only in the State but also in areas of national and international interests. The Governor did not stop at that, he exhibited his conviction and readiness to digitalize the State's Economy through bottom -up approach, which remains the best strategy of instilling digital consciousness in the psyches of all the citizens of the State irrespective of age and status. Against this backdrop, ICT was introduced into the management of academic activities and administration of schools across the 20 local governments, such that each learner/pupil now has a unique identity number called LIN – Learner Identity Number. Parents can now access their wards’ report sheets online. Interestingly, these efforts are presently reflecting in the performances of students at various competitions, including public examinations. At various times, students from the State have emerged overall best at STEM competitions and global mathematics competitions, among others. In addition to that, Governor Abiodun, in its understanding and irrevocable resolve to transform the Ogun economy through ICT, in line woth global best practices and in the bid of sustaining the status of the State as the best economic environment in Nigeria for the Ease of Doing Business changed the old fraudulent way of land allocation system. He introduced advanced automation and anti-fraud technology in the process of CofO, first of its kind in Nigeria, with a new 1-page double-sided CofO certificate and capacity to issue 5,000 CofOs daily, in which over 5,000 CofOs that were otherwise backlogged at the Bureau of Lands were recently handed over to their owners. To this end, CofO issuance in Ogun State will now be issued electronically for the much-needed efficiency. It is against this backdrop that a recent report by BudgIT ranked Ogun State in the 7th position in the 2023 overall Fiscal Performance Ranking and 1st in most improved in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) among the 36 States and the FCT. Obviously, all these wouldn't have been possible without the deliberate policies of Dapo Abiodun's administration to strengthen the State's economy and overall machinery of government and governance through ICT, which has contributed immensely to the State's present status as the investment destination of choice as well as one of the most resilient states. We salute the effforts of the Governor as he continues in his drive towards attracting investors by providing the most business-friendly environment through well-thought-out policies assisted and driven by technology. Ajibola writes from Abeokuta

Dr. Uzoka-Anite said that the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue to encourage industrialization and mobilize resources where necessary to boost economic recovery. "The challenge of unemployment, pressure on foreign exchange and economic diversification is one that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to tackle conclusively. Governor Abiodun, who also commended the deep sense of corporate social responsibility of the group, added that when companies engage in corporate social responsibility, the community takes ownership and supports their overall development. "I want to thank the TGI group because you are a classical example of the success story of Ogun State; you are a reference point industry, a shinning example of foreign direct investment in the country. Abiodun Seeks FG's Approval Of FTZ For Remo Economic Zone M Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has pleaded with the federal government to approve the operation of the Remo Economic Zone as a Free Trade Zone. The governor, who made the plea when he received the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite and her team in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noted that the approval was needed to enable processing companies that have signed to process their raw materials in the zone commence operations. He emphasized that the zone would record multiple processing companies willing to sign up to begin work in the zone in the next one year if the approval was given, saying out of the six Special Agro Processing Zone, the State has the highest number. Abiodun said: "We have impending application for the Remo Economic Zone in your office as a Special Economic Zone that enjoys the status of a Free Trade Zone, and the reason for that is very simple. "The entire economic zone is being developed in partnership between the state government and the third party, and we have located the airport as one of the enablers of it own. Part of the requirements that we signed with our partner was that this economic zone will be Free Trade Zone. "It allows all the processing companies all over the world who have already signed to process in that zone to process the raw materials that will be brought from all over the state and the zone. They can export them to other parts of the continent. "We are aware that when you assumed office, you decided to review the numbers of Free Trade Zones that we have in the country and decide on which ones are truly required, needed, and deserving. "The problem we have is that our partner in his determination to move that economic zone, has begun to award contracts and because the model we have was that in the process of doing that, certain taxes that you would have to pay if it is not an economic zone and that is hindering the process which is why we are looking at ways solving the problem speedily." The governor said his administration has created four economic zones in the last four and a half years, in addition to the existence of Agbara Industrial Zone. "We realized that it is important to have these Economic Zones around the State so that investors can conveniently choose their part of the State that suits them. We constructed the Epe-Ijebu-ode road, and this road will evacuate goods and people from Lagos to the East through our state. "We created another economic zone around Kajola because this is where we have the rail line that comes from Ibadan. We will soon launch our Dry Seaport at that particular Economic Zone. "We also have the one in Yewa through Ota axis. All these economic zones are to ensure that the cargo produce in Ogun State is conveniently processed, and this will generate job opportunities and enhanced value chains," he added. While intimating the Minister of efforts to further attract investments to the state, the State helmsman informed that his administration would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with its partner to commence the construction of the Deep Seaport at Olokola to complete the circle of economic zones in the State. The governor thanked the Minister for the visit, noting that it would cement further the relationship with the government at the centre. Speaking earlier, Dr. Uzoka-Anite applauded the state government for its developmental strides, saying the springing up of industries in the state was a confirmation of the conducive business environment and the availability of necessary infrastructure that attracts investors. She said as the industrial capital, Ogun State has distinguished itself as a pioneer and leader in developing, expanding and attracting industries with ease, adding that the visit would enable her and her team to rob minds with the officials of state government on how best to be of help to each other. "The federal government will collaborate with the state government to see how to improve and industrialized not only the State, but the whole country. We are committed to supporting the state in any way we can. Whatever the governor is doing to continue in the industrialisation, we will support him," the minister added.

Gov. Abiodun assembles best team for quality health care delivery in Ogun- Dr Salako Bolaji In this interview with Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist, Dr. Salako Bolaji Lateef, who is also a leading anti-quackery Advocate in Ogun State, insights on the proactive interventions of Governor Dapo Abiodun in the Health sector of Ogun State were given, as well as the necessary steps taken to fight the menace of quackery in the heath sector among other sundry issues. Can you briefly give insights on the state of health care delivery in Ogun State in the last four years and areas of necessasy interventions ? The healthcare delivery in Ogun State has significantly improved under the current administration of His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun for the past four years. The commitment and sincerity shown by the present government in the health sector are evident through strategic appointments, such as: Dr. Tomi Coker as Commissioner for Health, Dr. Lawal as SA, Dr. Ololade, and Dr. Omojola ( SSAs). They have proven their capabilities, and in the recent second term, Dr. Tomi Coker was reappointed alongside Dr. Lawal and Dr. Ogungbe as SAs, reinforcing the government’s dedication and commitment in the health sector. Ogun State boasts of numerous government hospitals, encompassing both primary and secondary health facilities, all managed by the state government. However, the key focus should be on increased funding and proper health financing. Ogun State government has more than 230 primary health centers and over 50 secondary health facilities catering for the state’s populace, sustaining and enhancing health-care system delivery. To further strengthen the health-care system, the government should prioritize adequate staffing, fair remuneration, provision of essential equipment, regular staff training, and creation of a conducive work environment. By implementing these measures and offering attractive welfare packages, the government can foster job satisfaction among health-care workers, ultimately contributing to the overall improvement of health-care services in the state. What informed your passion for the fight against medical quackery in Ogun State and the success recorded so far by your team? Quack and quackery is something we should all fight against because the consequences always have massive health risks As an anti-quackery advocate, I believe that we have a duty to stop this health fraud and educate our people that wearing white clothes does not make someone a nurse or a doctor. That not every person who sells or handles drugs is a qualified pharmacist. We also need to inform our people that a doctor’s work cannot be done by a medical laboratory scientist, nor can a radiographer replace a radiologist. The functions of optometrists are completely different from those of ophthalmologists. We are appalled by the situation where doctors train unlicensed nurses or where chemists train unqualified pharmacy technicians. All these practices are health fraud and quackery. I live and work in Ogun state, at the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta. We cannot ignore the fact that things are not going well. These dishonest people are endangering our people, so we have to keep working against them so that their operations will not thrive in our state. The tactic they use is to pretend that they can cure all diseases, they offer low prices, they act like friendly and harmless people. They also say that they have magical and spiritual power to deal with any kind of illness. They use technical or unfamiliar languages to trick their victims. They make their offices look better than hospitals and clinics. That is why I always advise our people not to trust everything they see or hear in the media so they should always consult their doctors on any health related issues. Some months ago, I joined the ministry of health in the fight against quack and quackery during Operation Stingray led by Dr Tomi Coker the honourable commissioner for health. What we witnessed was terrible and we arrested some offenders during this task force operation. We are ready for more partnerships against this threat called quack and quackery. We need to reduce or eliminate these anti-people activities in Ogun state. We need to make the state unfavourable for these elements. Wha type of leadership you consider essential at the highest echelon of Hospital Management Board in Ogun State? As you are know that the Ogun State Hospital Management Board is a comprehensive parastatal within the Ministry of Health, encompassing various departments. It oversees the secondary hospitals owned by the Ogun State government. The essential leadership qualities required include a combination of healthcare expertise, strategic vision, effective communication, and strong decision-making skills. With these leadership qualities, the board will be positioned appropriately within the committee of boards

The arrival of the nation's number two man at the Airport further proved to naysayers that the Airport, a star project of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government of the state, is indeed ready to commence operations before the end of the year as promised. The Vice President's delegation to the annual festival was received by Governor Dapo Abiodun and numerous other dignitaries. The Vice President took time off to inspect the facilities at the Airport. After seeing the readiness of the project and the facilities, Senator Shettima applauded Governor Abiodun's vision for the state, saying the governor has proven beyond doubt that he knows what is needed to industrialize the state. The VP's tour of the Airport left a lasting impression on all present at the scene. With the Vice President were Governors Yayaha Bello of Kogi State, Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State and Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State. Senators Olamilekan Solomon of Ogun West and Senator Afolabi Shuaib Salis of Ogun Central led several members of the National Assembly to be part of the event, amidst pomp and pageantry. On hand to also receive the visitors were numerous top state governments’ functionaries. For all the dignitaries present that fateful Saturday, it was a day to learn about the very rich history of Governor Dapo Abiodun's place of birth. Akesan, the mythical founder of Iperu, was a daughter to an Alaafin who along with her husband Ajagbe, migrated from Ile Ife to finally settle in Iperu around the 13th or 14th century. The annual Akesan festival is to celebrate the progenitor of the ancient town as well as to exhibit the many virtues she was.known for - love, beauty, candour and industry among many others. Speaking at the grand finale, Shettima harped on the importance of unity. He said, “This edition of the festival, like the ones before it, speaks of the essence of the unity we have forged as a nation. This festival stands as a testimony to the potential that lies within us when we unite under the banner of our shared heritage.” The Vice President urged a more united Nigeria and assured of improved welfare and infrastructure development from the federal government. He also called on the people of the country to harness the past to show a brighter future for generations to come, added that Nigerians should also learn from Iperu-Remo the spirit of unity for operational determination. “The Akesan festival stands as a testimony to the potential that lies within us when we unite under the banner of our shared heritage. “This edition of the festival like the ones before it speaks of the essence of the unity we have forged as a nation, it symbolizes the heart beat of our nation. “I commend you for investing significant time and resources to establish Iperu-Remo on the map and to remind us of this heritage. “You have reinforced the identities and pride of our communities, fostering their patriotism and their commitment to pursuing our collective progress and nurturing the bonds that bind us as a people,” VP Shettima said. For Governor Abiodun, the home boy and chief host, it was a time to once again appreciate his kinsmen for upholding the cultural heritage of Iperu. The governor noted that the legendary Akesan Baale Oja remains a symbol of heroic exploits, valour, and self-sacrifice for the common good of the Iperu people. “We share deep cultural and traditional affinities with Ile Ife (Osun State), Oyo, and Ijebu-Ode (Ogun State), coupled with our bond with the people of Lagos. Lagosians hate to be reminded that the Eyo festival, historically originated from Iperu, before it was later exported to Lagos,” he said while assuring the people of his administration's commitment to the preservation of culture and values of the good people of the state. Governor Abiodun used the occasion to reiterate his determination to leave the state better than he met. He added that his government will do more for the many rural communities across the state so as to ensure the people benefits from the ongoing infrastructure and industrialization drive of his administration. His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeleke Adelekan idowu Basibo, Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, played host to the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Adewale Ajayi and scores of other traditional rulers within and outside Ogun State at the Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu venue of the historic event. *_Odufowokan is Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Abiodun on Public Communications_

CRITICAL PITFALLS TO AVOID FOR SUCCESS: A GUIDE FOR NEW GENERATION COCOA ENTREPRENEURS By Agosile Akinjide Dickson 1.0 NOT LEVERAGING GORDON GROWTH MODEL In the realm of Nigeria's cocoa industry, the plight of farmers battling with poverty underscores the crucial need to internalize the fundamentals of the Gordon growth model. Understanding the Gordon growth model (b × r) is key for aspiring entrepreneurs. 'b' denotes the retention rate, signifying reinvestment from profits, while 'r' represents the rate of return, depicting earnings on capital. A prevailing trend among farmers in the cocoa industry revolves around a myopic focus on the rate of return ('r'), fixating primarily on maximizing profits without due attention to retention. Conversations with numerous farmers and small-scale brokers reveal a recurring cycle: procuring capital from off-takers, engaging in cocoa trade, settling debts by year-end, and subsequently seeking advances by April. This reliance on continuous advances assumes perpetual support from off-takers and an expectation that future productivity will offset these debts. Breaking away from this cyclical dependency demands a paradigm shift towards considering the retention rate ('b'). It's essential to avoid the repetitive annual cycle and instead foster more sustainable and robust businesses. While obtaining advances from off-takers seems beneficial, resembling interest-free loans, it shouldn't overshadow the imperative to build internal equity. Businesses must diversify their approach, understanding that off-takers might not consistently offer advances. For a resilient and prosperous future in the cocoa industry, aspiring entrepreneurs should heed the importance of both 'b' and 'r' within the Gordon growth model. Balancing reinvestment and profitability can pave the way for sustainable growth, reducing dependency and fostering self-sufficiency within the industry. 2.0 CORPORATE FINANCE DEFICITS In the intricate landscape of Nigeria's agribusiness sector, the disparity between local players and international competitors in accessing funding remains a substantial obstacle. Medium-sized agribusinesses often find themselves in a challenging position, contending with global competitors hailing from stable countries that can offer loans at remarkably low interest rates, sometimes as low as 5%. Conversely, local entities might secure funds from commercial banks at significantly higher rates, ranging from 27% to 30%. This glaring contrast inherently creates a financial advantage for international players, granting them a competitive edge solely based on access to cheaper capital. To bridge this financing gap and bolster the local agribusiness landscape, the federal government established institutions like NEXIM and BOI, designed to provide funding to agricultural enterprises at considerably lower rates. However, despite these initiatives, many agribusinesses do not know of these funding opportunities. Consequently, they resort to securing capital at exorbitant rates, which invariably eats into their profits—funds that could have otherwise been reinvested to expand operations and augment their wealth. This financing disparity echoes in the market dynamics, affecting the ability of local players to compete effectively. International competitors, by access to cheaper funds, exhibit greater flexibility in pricing and can consequently move larger volumes, expanding their market share exponentially. For the emerging generation venturing into this agribusiness space, minimizing this corporate finance deficit becomes pivotal. Accessing subsidized funding from institutions like NEXIM and BOI is a strategic move to level the playing field. By leveraging these opportunities for lower-rate funding, young entrepreneurs can mitigate financial burdens, channel more resources into business growth, and position themselves competitively in the market. This proactive approach not only aids in scaling up operations but also enables local players to maximize their potential in the industry, fostering sustainability and resilience in the face of global competition. 3.0 FORGETTING TO BUILD SYSTEMS The often-overlooked art of establishing robust systems plays a pivotal role. Drawing from Robert Kiyosaki's insightful distinctions in his book 'Rich Dad's Cashflow Quadrant,' a critical differentiation emerges between a business owner and someone self-employed. Crucially, a business owner can step away from the office premises with confidence that operations continue seamlessly. Conversely, for the self-employed, their absence halts cash flow generation and other vital economic activities. In the realm of small-scale agribusinesses, this distinction is strikingly relevant. Farmers and owners frequently find themselves entrenched in day-to-day operational tasks, neglecting other critical facets of the business such as corporate finance, strategy, and sales. However, the intricacies of building a business in Nigeria add layers of complexity, notably in navigating the trust factor. Consider the logistics of sending goods from Ondo State to Lagos—a seemingly routine business operation. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for drivers to deviate from the route, siphoning off portions of the cargo, and reducing the profit margins. Similarly, assigning field managers to source produce can encounter setbacks as some may connive with suppliers, resulting in fraudulent practices. These experiences contribute to a hesitancy among small business owners to establish more comprehensive systems, often rooted in the reluctance to entrust critical responsibilities to others. Yet, despite these challenges, young entrepreneurs entering the agribusiness space must recognize the inherent value of growth and sustainability through systematic structuring. While theft or fraudulent activities by untrusted employees might incur losses, the benefits of instituting robust systems far outweigh these costs. Building an effective internal control system not only safeguards against certain leakages but also curtails the limitations imposed by micromanagement. Overreliance on controlling every aspect not only restricts employees' creativity but also stifles the potential for company growth. The key lies in striking a balance—establishing systems that protect against vulnerabilities while fostering an environment that encourages innovation and growth. Aspiring agribusiness entrepreneurs must understand that the long-term gains derived from building sustainable systems outweigh the short-term losses incurred from mistrust or minor theft. This approach not only fortifies the business against risks but also propels it toward scalable and sustainable growth in Nigeria's competitive business landscape. 4.0 OVERTRADING Overtrading is essentially when a company invests excessively in its working capital. This working capital primarily includes inventory, receivables, and payables. In the context of the cocoa industry, this tendency toward overtrading manifests in various ways. Firstly, the allure of interest-free funds from off-takers often leads brokers to accept exorbitant amounts, surpassing their operational capacity. As a result, they struggle to fulfill these commitments, leading to delays and difficulties in delivering the agreed-upon cocoa beans. This erodes trust and confidence with the off-takers, impacting future dealings and potentially hampering access to necessary funds. Moreover, on the receivables side, new entrants in the market often extend substantial advances to suppliers in a bid to establish their presence and attract business. However, this practice can backfire, resulting in bad debts and diminishing available capital for trading purposes. To mitigate these risks, it's crucial to not only build relationships but also assess suppliers' capacity to deliver before offering significant advances. Overtrading, beyond damaging relationships and reducing available capital, can precipitate various other problems for a business. It can strain cash flow, leading to liquidity issues and financial instability. It may also burden the company with excessive debt or tie up resources in unproductive ventures, hindering overall growth and scalability. Ultimately, avoiding overtrading necessitates prudent management of working capital, maintaining a balance between investments and operational capacity, and conducting thorough assessments of financial risks before extending significant advances or commitments. This approach safeguards against cash flow disruptions, sustains healthy relationships, and fortifies the business for sustained growth and stability. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa: How loyalty meets capacity By Olaniyi Ajibola The critical evaluation of the intrinsic tenets of Loyalty as conceptualized by a great thinker, Fetty Wap, simply speaks to the character of the Acting Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and defines the whole political development in Ondo State, which culminated into the inevitability of submitting to the dictates of the extant law and Nigeria's constitution. Fetty Wap postulated: " My whole thing is Loyalty, Loyalty over Royalty; Word is bond". In truth and indeed, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa from February 2021 had displayed high degree of Loyalty to his Principal, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, who out of his strong sense of leadership recruitment and talent hunt discovered the requisite Loyalty and Capacity in Aiyedatiwa. Truly to Akeredolu's projection about him, the former Deputy Governor was a loyal lieutenant in words and appearance; he brought the acumen and sagacity of the private sector to bear in supporting Arakunrin in his dynamic leadership and good governance, unlike many of his colleagues, he never made any attempts to overshadow his boss or involve in power struggle. Aiyedatiwa, exhibited the character of a complete 'Omoluabi' in all of his dealings and attitudes, even in the face of suffocating provocation, he remained calm and collected, focusing on the initial resolve between him and his boss to engender good governance and democratic deliverables to the people of Ondo State. Loyalty compelled Aiyedatiwa to remain strong and undaunted when political merchants and jobbers went on rampage and activated propaganda machine against him, using different platforms to malign, blackmail and defame him for parochial and selfish reasons. Contrary to the calculation of jobbers that the Acting Governor would derail and loose his balance by their hegemony and the cold war they waged against him from all fronts, conniving with critical stakeholders within and outside the government to frustrate him, Aiyedatiwa stood his ground out of conviction and never looked back. His rare sagacity and capacity to weather the storms still remain a topic of reference in the political circle and for scholars in political philosophy and comparative politics; he has successfully redefined politics in the 21st century Nigeria. Obviously, the degree of political maturity and capability Aiyedatiwa displayed caught the attention of critical political stakeholders in the State and across Nigeria, including the presidency, who all unanimously agreed that there must be total end to the chicanery of power mongers in the State, and the rest became history. Without mincing words, there are lot of lessons to learn in the whole political scenario that played out in Ondo State, especially for the young generation who are aspiring to go into politics; some of the inherent lessons are the concept of loyalty and the art of political shrewdness, among others. Strictly speaking, it is the concept of loyalty that kept Aiyedatiwa moving consistently on the path of vision and mission of their administration, despite his Principal's prolonged absence, while the art of political shrewdness insulated him against the antics of political wolves around him. Meanwhile, as we fervently pray for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for his quick recovery, we must remind the Acting Governor of the need to keep the flag of excellence, pragmatism and courage in power flying as exemplified by AKETI, Aiyedatiwa must not come below that standard in any way, rather, he must make Akeredolu proud by taken governance further from where the Governor stopped, knowing fully well that Government is continum. Also, the Acting Governor must continue to live above board as usual, by exhibiting exemplary ideals of maturity and inclusivity, not minding the shenanigans of political profiteers and unrepentant fifth columnists who are genetically wired to peddle lies and blackmails as means of their livelihood. Again, Aiyedatiwa must realise that all eyes are on him to deliver within the short period he would be holding sway as the number one citizen in Ondo State in acting capacity, having been working closely with his Principal on critical areas of governance, especially security. He must be firm, assertive and courageous on the need to protect the lives and property of the people of Ondo State, in the face of array of challenges in the State's security architecture; all hands must be on deck to checkmate and curb criminal incursion into the State by unscrupulous elements. Like it was done before, necessary attention and support must be given to intelligence gathering at the local level through home grown mechanism, as a way of combating criminalities in communities around the State. In the same vein, more economic opportunities must be explored and existing resources of the State must be prudently and judiciously annexed to guarantee prosperity for the greatest number of the people and make life more abundant for all. Finally, the Acting Governor must work in the direction suggested by the former Prime Minister of Philiphens, Gloria Aroyo, who described a good leader as," The one who is at the fore-front leading with vision; at the middle inspiring with passion and at the back defending with courage". May Almight God continue to guide and guard His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as he holds fort for Aketi in acting capacity as the Governor of Ondo State. Diversion of Funds: CJ Adepele Ojo remains innocent; Osun govt mischievous, desperate-Report Facts have emerged through thorough and extensive investigation on how the Osun State Government deliberately fabricated the allegation of diversion of funds leveled against the Chief Judge Adepele Ojo, for the purpose of painting her black before the public. Recall that the government through a press release has accused the Chief Judge of diverting different categories of funds, including the sum of seven million, four hundred and eighty six thousand, three hundred naira being the recovered money from suspects of Ikirun bank robbery in 2019. However, recent facts have confirmed allegation of diversion of all kinds of funds against the CJ as mere tissues of lies, baseless and satanic imagination of the Ademola Adeleke- led government to defame her Lordship as a justification for illegal replacement and imposition of a stooge to manipulate the Judiciary in the State. For instance, in the case of the money recovered from the Ikirun bank robbery suspects, the money, according to the bank teller of the transaction, was judiciously lodged into the First Bank account of Ikirun High Court on Tuesday, 18th January, 2022, by Adesola Rafiat Amope Tobiloba, the Registrar of the High Court in Ikirun, who was accompanied by the pay mistress of the court (Bank Teller attached), contrary to the malicious claim by the Osun State Government and its agents. The lodgement became necessary following the order of Ikirun High Court dated 13th November, 2019, in the suit No: HIK/8C/2016.The State vs Nuhu Jimoh, Ndubisi David, Aderibigbe Oluwaseun, the order stated that the money be kept until final judgement would be given, the court also directed that the money should be intact in terms of denominations and wrappers. Meanwhile, the final judgment was delivered on the 30th January,2020, in which the court ordrered that the money be forfeited into the account of Government. However, the lock down of those days as a result of COVID-19 pandemic practically made access to bank impossible for the period of almost 4 months. Subsequently, by the time partial activities resumed at both High Court and Banks, appeal had been lodged by one of the convicts, who is the 3rd accused in the case, Aderibigbe Oluwaseun, with Appeal No CA/233C/2020. This development necessitated the need to keep the money pending the determination of the appeal. However, for the purpose of safe keeping and in the face of several monetary policies of the CBN, the money was paid into High Court Special Depost Account, which is meant for special monetary Exhibit and untouchable. Understandably, the money has not yet been paid into the government's account since the appeal has not been concluded, and the money remains intact in the bank. Further checks revealed that all other allegations against the Chief Judge followed the same pattern, as there was no single evidence to substantiate any of the allegations against Mrs Adepele Ojo by the government in Osun, other than the desperation to remove her through the back door and hold Judiciary in the State by the jugular for political considerations.

Ogun to reconstruct Ikenne Township Road -Abiodun Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun at the weekend said his administration would soon award the contract for the reconstruction of the Ikenne township road. The road, according to him, would begin from Aiyepe junction. Governor Abiodun, who made this known during the 47th annual Ikenne Ereke Day celebration with the theme 'Divine Year of Accomplishment', held at the Ereke Civic Center, Ikenne, said that the reconstruction of the township road would further complement the completion of the stretch of the road coming from Sagamu. He also disclosed that the model school built and abandoned by the immediate past administration in the state would soon be converted into a World Class Centre of Excellence by his administration. "I will soon be awarding the Ikenne township road contract, and that will start from the Aiyepe junction to Uren River. That will complete the stretch coming from Sagamu, and it will give this town the beauty it deserves. "We have completed the Sagamu-Ikenne road. I know some of our brothers and sisters in Ikenne would have wanted us to dualise it. As a government, our decisions are driven by data. That road does not enjoy enough traffic to allow us to dualise it. So, we looked at the cost benefit and decided that we would complete one side of the road, and when that traffic justifies it, we will now complete the other part. "We will soon be converting the Model School in Ikenne to a World Class Centre of Excellence," he said The governor also reiterated that the Ogun State Agro Cargo Airport being constructed in the state would be commissioned soon with commercial activities commencing at the airport, noting that a dry port would also berth in the state. "That airport two years ago was nothing but a forest. The pessimists said to us we could not build it; some people called it a dump site. By the grace of the Almighty God, we will be commissioning that airport before the end of this year 2023, and that airport will resume commercial operation. Plane will be departing from Ikerne local government and going to Abuja. "In our relentless efforts to make our state more accessible to business, we have unfolded our multi-model transport master plan, which included the construction of this airport. "In furtherance of that implementation, we will soon be establishing the Ogun State Dry Port which is a port without a sea at the Kajola-Papalanto axis, thereby further facilitating our manufacturers to ship their raw materials from anywhere in the world or export their finished goods from Kajola in Ogun State to the rest of the world," he noted. Governor Abiodun, while ascribing the rise of the Internally Generated Revenue of the state to the strong political will of his administration, said that his government would continue to do everything within its capacity to soar higher. "I remain very humble to be the governor of this great state; the state with the most improved internally generated revenue in the country according to Budgit and by the grace of God, we are the third largest in internally generated revenue from the very back position that we occupied in the recent past. "This has been possible because of our strong political will and dogged determination to change the old order and move the state towards sustainable growth and prosperity," he added. Earlier in her remarks, the wife of the former Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, felicitated with the sons and daughters of the town, describing them as special people.

Dredging Ogun River Would Curb Flooding At Isheri-Abiodun ...as minister distributes relief materials to victims Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that adequate dredging and channelisation of the Ogun River would go a long way in curbing the perennial flooding of Isheri and its environs. Governor Abiodun made the suggestion when he received the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. (Miss) Betta Edu, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan Abeokuta at the weekend. Abiodun also observed that water released from Cameroon contributed to the disaster He said: "We have identified some immediate causes. We have the Oyan Dam, and it is being overseen by the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority. The Minister of Water Resources and that of State for the Environment were here to see for themselves as it was the consequences of that flooding. "We identified together that the Dam itself contributed to the problem, and of course, it is not intentional because Dams were built to capture bodies of water that are in the channel. It serves as sources of water supply, irrigation, and also the control of flooding. "The other part is that the Ogun River is channelled to go through the area in question. That channel itself requires proper channelization. There is evidence that the channel needs to be disilted. The Ogun River emptied into the Lagoon, so when you have the channel where people build houses on, when there is a downpour, when the Dam itself is opened, the water overflows." Governor Abiodun described this year's flooding in the Isheri axis as the worse in recent times, saying it has affected commercial and social life of the people as residents now take refuge in camps of various religious bodies across the State. He said though the area is flood plain, successive governments allocated the land for development purposes, saying the immediate concern of his administration was to look at the remote causes and the interventions that could be deployed to bring relief to the residents as government could not embark on demolition exercise as there are warehouses, different estates, businesses and schools in the axis. While emphasizing the need for correctional work on roads in the axis, Governor Abiodun opined that the flooding is not localized as the State has to contend with water released from the Republic of Cameroon, noting that there is an urgent need to engage a Consultant to conduct proper study and come up with holistic plan that could lead to permanent and sustainable solutions to the problem. Abiodun appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the laudable intervention programmes put in place to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal and the ones meant for the State, saying he would personally review the State's Social Register to ensure fairness and inclusiveness. "I have set up an expanded Committee under the Ministry of Budget and Planning and I have also expanded the participation to ensure that it is an inter-ministerial team working alongside Council Chairmen, religious bodies, to look at the list and ensure an inclusiveness and that it is the true representative of those that are in need. "Soon the list will be ready, and the state will join the comity of states that are enjoying the programmes," Abiodun submitted. Speaking earlier, Edu said the federal government is considering the construction of buffer dams to control flooding around communities abutting the Ogun River. The minister said she and her counterpart in the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation had discussed the issue at the last Federal Executive Council meeting on the need to have dams that would act as buffer to prevent further flooding in the axis. She also hinted of the Federal Government's plan to take 50 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 42 months and get every single person in the country out of poverty line by the year 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She lamented the recent flooding in many parts of the country, which she noted has pushed people into humanitarian crises and further pushed them down the poverty line. Edu said she was in Ogun State to assess how the federal government could provide immediate succour in terms of relief to the affected people. The minister noted that the government at the centre has put in place various programmes to meet the objectives it has set for itself in eradicating poverty in the country. She also said she was in the state to have the sign off of Ogun State Social Register, which fits into the National Social Register so that people in the State could begin to receive the N25,000 Conditional Cash Transfer which has already started in other states of the Federation. "Beyond this, we have carefully mapped out immediate interventions that will be carried out in Ogun State. Some are designed specifically for the state, like the Adire fabric scheme, with which we want to support women to produce the Adire. We also have the GIP programme, which is the market and traders, as well as the farmers' money. "We have the End-Hunger Programme, which will be started almost immediately. The State's sensitization team would engage with the communities, market women, and the state government so that we can have a smooth flow of the interventions," she said. Edu said the federal government is also working with the state government to provide grants for the vulnerable women to set up their own businesses, adding that the GIP programme which is a zero interest loan to the vulnerable, is aimed at supporting the already existing programme being implemented in the State. "The GIP is a zero interest loan to the vulnerable, but the grant will also be supporting a programme already being implemented here in Ogun State and all of these is targeted at seeing that we can achieve the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's instrument of getting 50 million people out of poverty within the next 42 months, while we work towards getting every single person out of poverty by 2030 which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. "It is a transparent process that we want to use to build the confidence of Nigerians that President Tinubu truly means well for this country and want the interventions to go to the people that truly needs them," the minister explained.

Be patient, Tinubu committed to abundant life, Gov. Abiodun tells Nigerians ...as governor bags award in developmental governance, inclusivity Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured Nigerians of abundant life engendered by various economic reforms embarked upon by President Bola Tinubu, saying there is light at the end of the present tunnel in Nigeria. Prince Abiodun identified some key factors contributing to the bad state of the economy in the country, including the annulment of the 1993 presidential election believed to have been be won by late Moshood Abiola. The Governor spoke at the Osun NUJ award programme as part of the activities marking the 2023 press week, held in Osogbo, Osun State capital, as Keynote Speaker. The governor bagged award of excellence as Icon of Developmental Governance and Inclusivity. Governor Abiodun, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade said the current economic and security challenges informed the concept of the renewed hope mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which according to him signifies a pragmatic approach and sound decision as a way of changing the old order. Speaking on the topic "Nigerian Economy, Political Evolution: Prospect or Retrospect and Way Forward," Abiodun said many analysts and experts in political economy have identified major issues and challenges in Nigerian politics, giving particular attention to the evolution of the federal system, aspects of political competition, and the nature of ruling groups. "They enunciated the links among political demands and incentives, economic strategy, and capitalist development and analysed the evolution of economic policy and performance, looking specifically at the impact of large oil revenues, agrarian policies, and the programme of economic liberalization. "Other pertinent issues of concern, as indicated by these intellectuals, are the annulment of the presidential elections in 1993 and its adverse effects on Nigeria’s economy and image, coupled with persistent military interference, and the demise of the economic reform programmes. "Now, considering the obvious trend of economic challenges and the task of assessing the prospects for economic and political change, we must carefully check if we presently have the necessary political leadership with the requisite will and capacity at the centre to allow for effective economic management and more productive use of our oil wealth in the years ahead," he said. Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun, Rave FM CEO, Dr Femi Adefila; Osun State University, among others were honoured with award of excellence.
