I am not here to argue with anybody. I here to state facts. The subject of addiction is something that has been shrouded by misconception and misleading stereotype. When you mention addiction, people think of hard drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, ecstasy etc. and the only harm they think of is that it runs someone mad, a fact that is true but exaggerated. There are many things about the harm of addiction that people don't know. Two, linked, addictions that are filled with misconception are pornography and masturbation.

FACTS :
1) pornography is addictive. There are now studies to support this.
2) long term and frequent use of pornography and masturbation would take a toll on your mind and body. In short it is harmful.
3) you don't play the moderation card with addiction (ie. Saying to yourself that I will do it with moderation), you will most likely fail.
4) Chronic pornography and masturbation use leads to erectile dysfunction. This fact is undisputed.

Effects of pornography and masturbation on the mind and emotion

First of all, all addictions are similar on a basic neurological level. They all cause a surge of dopamine in the reward system and as one indulges in his habits, there is a downregulation of dopamine in the brain ie. The dopamine receptors and level are reduced so that the brain can see the surge of dopamine as normal. At this stage, the addict needs more substance (substance addiction) or novelty/new genre (behavioural addiction like porn and jerking off) to feel high again or aroused. This begins a circle of more seeking and downregulation of dopamine. This process is also accompanied by a compromise of the prefrontal cortex and this process is called hypofrontality. This applies to many addictions including pornography and masturbation.

Effects that pop up, due to the aforementioned mechanism I highlighted, AS ONE'S PORNOGRAPHY OR MASTURBATION ADDICTION PROGRESSES are as follows :

1) Brain fog. Here, it's as if your head is clouded and it's difficult to perform mental tasks and one is quite forgetful and has problems remember. Brain fog and cognitive impairment accompanying porn are two different things even though they do co-occur.

2) Cognitive impairment.
a) concentration and attention problems. You have difficulty paying attention and concentrating.
b) short term memory and working memory problems. difficulty recalling things.
c) difficulty reading and understanding. You find yourself reading the same line or words of a book over and over again in order to remember but sometimes, it's futile.
d) confusion.
e) forgetfulness.
f) Easily stressed out mentally. You can't cope with stress as little mental stress heightens your symptoms and knock you out. This doesn't happen all the time but it happens.

3) Emotional problems.
a) depression.
b) anxiety and panic attacks.
c) loss of motivation and thrill. Things, except porn, that used to be exciting to you are longer thrilling you.
d) mood swing. You are easily irritable, you can be happy one moment and the next moment, you are angry as Bleep.

4) physical problems
a) your penis can't be full erect during sex instead it gets hard when you want to masturbate.
b) crackling joints and muscle pain. Before you start laughing and saying that I can lie for Africa, note that this is for the grandmasters of pornography and masturbation ie. Those that have been consistent in the habit for years.
C) my knowledge is limited, add yours....

Now these symptoms occur for those who are long term, frequent and chronic users. So if you have masturbated four or five times in your life or you have never masturbated at all, don't start arguing what you don't know. Experience is the best teacher. The brain fog, cognitive impairment and emotional problems I listed are not specific to porn users and masturbators they are also see in long term and frequent marijuana smokers, alcoholics, tramadol users, codeine users, cocaine and other illicit drug users. This is because all addictions share a specific constellation of brain changes as I have explained.

How long does it take for these effects to subside?
It depends on the length and frequency of one's usage. For long term frequent users, 12-24 months of abstinence should return you back to normal. For newbies, few days or weeks or few months, stay away before it becomes long lasting.

4) ECONOMIC REGRESSION
Here is what Paul Dirac had to say about religion :

Well spoken. Because of religious beliefs, people don't realise how much their lives and so called destiny is in there own hands, they see their destiny as being determined and fated that's why despite the economic hardship and corruption on the part of the political leaders, people endure thinking "Yahweh will make a way" or their "lives are in Yahweh's hands" instead of starting a revolution and making their leaders pay dearly for it. Revolution will come quickly when Nigerians realise that their lives are not in anyone's hands and there is not a God that cares for them. Poor masses, wake up!

We have even sank so low that we now see someone, with first class, driving a tricycle (keke napep) as normal. SMH

3) WASTED LIFE PURPOSE AND OPPORTUNITIES
As a serious christians, do you remember those wasted energy and time spent reading the bible and praying, time that could have been used doing something useful to better yourself? . For some ex-catholics, remember how you or your relative joined the priesthood and devoted themselves? Much worse is if you were a priest for many years and you discovered that you have lived a lie all your life. For those with musical talents, remember rejecting one secular record label (that doesn't do christian music) because you felt you can't do worldly things or your pastor told you, cunningly, to stay in the church serving his choir because "Yahweh wants you there and will prosper you there." you stayed and nothing came out of it, empty promises and your musical talent and creativity weakened. More painful is that your fellow christians, in the same church, joined the music industry and are living big and the wayo pastor is eating their tithes while you are pained. Eyah, next time don't follow Butterflyleo and be st*pid.

These things do happen. Not everyone can be like Frank Edwards, some have their niche in the secular industry. Lastly, I won't forget those who left all worldly things to follow christ with all their strength and energy.

Many atheists who were once christians for many or few years know that if not for Christianity, they would have made a better decision that would have made them much more better. Certain life opportunities came and passed you by because you taught it's not the will of yahweh but your fellow christians, temporarily throwing yahweh in the trash took these opportunities and became better people while you are still waiting .

1) SICKNESS AND DISEASES
There are many people who had fatal illnesses that could have been proper managed to either eradicate it or prolong the victims life but since they read Matt 7:7, James 5:14-15, etc., they decided to forgo medical treatment. After all, faith works and it's the will of loving father to cater for his children. These people got worse and some lost their lives. Those that got worse became disillusioned and angered when their fellow hypocritical and unserious christians keep telling them that "Yahweh is not a magician", "Yahweh won't come down and heal you, work it out", "medical science is God's miracle" etc. whereas there actions were firmly rooted in the bible.

Such mistakes are very regrettable and emotionally traumatic. Religion wetin we do you

2) RELATIONSHIP
Many ladies would have married that guy they loved, that guy with whom they would have lived happily with but because the guy was not of the same religion with them or one dubious pastor( who wanted to be petty or wanted the lady for himself) said yahweh told him the marriage wouldn't work, they couldn't. They had to settle for that christian brother or the pastor himself who they never loved, who turned out to be a relationship nightmare and who has a low standard of living compared to the one they rejected. Believe it or not, this happens to a lot of ladies and even guys. Many ladies have been deceived by dubious christian brothers with "Yahweh told me that you are my wife."

The hypocrites may say "... It's not the religion, it's the pastor. Don't depend on any pastor but on yahweh alone." really? Like most them uttering this crap don't look up to E.A Adeb[b]OLE[/b] and Dr. Olukoya? Like most of them don't go for deliverance under these people? Hypocrites oshi! Truth as long as you are a christian in Nigeria, there is no how you will not look up to one pastor.
