he was getting discharged that day and he was very happy that at last he was going to leave the hospital after spending more than three months he sat on a chair while catherine packed his belongings,then his mother came in

"my son,i just heard you will be discharged today"

"yes mama,we will soon finish and be on our way"

"thats good,is there anything i can help you with"

"no mama,my wife has sort everything out"

" alright"after they finished parking,they were ready to go while richards mother collcected the bag from cat while richard leaned on cat for him to be able to work very well.they bade the nurses goodbye and headed out to the car he entered and sat at the back seat while his mother sat at the passengers seat cat got on the stearing wheel and drove off.when they got home he could see the amazement in the eyes of his mother.she asked after they came down from the car

"my son,you mean to tell me you live in this big house"

"yes mama.this is where i live"

"waoh!!"he laughed as he walked inside slowly while cat and his mother followed behind as she kept admiring the house.when they entered into the sitting room she kept looking here and there while catherine went inside.she later came back with a tray of juice and served her.

"mama please drink this juice.in the meantime"

"okay thank you"

"so mama what would you like to eat?"

"rice is okay"

"alright.i will be done in a short while"she dissappeare into the kitchen,while she was gone richard switched on the t.v

"mama,what do you rhink about living here with me?"

"living here with you in this big house.."

"yes ma"

"i dont want to disturb you couples,i heard that your marriage is not even up to a year so i want you to enjoy it and dont worry about me"

"but mama..we have been apart for so many years so living with me is to regain some of those time"

"i understand you,but living with you your wife might not be comfortable with it"

she took a cigarette and lit it,she has never in her tried to smoke this was her first time doing it and she found out that it was nice,she carried the strong alcohol and gulped some contents then she continued smoking.she was sitted in the midst of three guyz she was scared since they were nototious people but she had a very urgent message they would help her deliver.she showed them the picture

"thats the person am talking about"one of the guyz answered and said

"so what do you want us to do?"

"i want you to kdnap her on her from work,after doing that i will tell you what you will do next"she brought an envelope and gave it to them."every information you need is in that envelope"

"what about the money?"

"i will give you half of the payment now and the complete once you finish the job"

"alright."she brught some bundles of naira and plced it on the table.she stood up and they shook hands...TBC

she was tensed as she was about to enter into the room where she was admitted because she feared of how she might react.she placed her hand on the door knob and was about to turn it when the doctor came out,her heart almost jumped out

"so doctor,how is she?"

"well she is now okay but unfortunately she lost the baby"

"she lost the baby!.thats very bad.can i see her?"

"yes she is awake but you need to be very careful as she needs to rest"

"of course,i wont be long,i just need to have a word with her"

"alright and please make it snappy"she entered slowly and saw her back turned.she walked slowly to her bed and their met.she had been crying,the doctor must have told her about the lost baby.immediately she saw her face changed.

"what do you want from me??ohh you came to inspect your handiwork,i know you came to mock me,since this is what you wanted to make me lose my baby"

"am sorry sandra but its not what you think"

"really?.but i want to make something clear to you,this is not the end even though i lost my baby but i promise you i will show you pepper."

"am sorry sandra,it was not intentional,and please dont take this too far,we can settle this matter amicably and moreso let bygones be bygones"

he sat down on his bed to relax catherine was beside him and massaging him when the door opened and it revealed mr and mrs anthony,it was a surprise visit,he wasnt expecting the couples to visit but he sensed there was more to their visit but he couldnt figure that out.he tried to stand up but mr anthony told him he shouldnt bother..

"welcome sir and ma..this is so unexpected and am honoured"

"we just came by to say hello to you and see how you are fairing"

"thank you sir and as you can see by Gods grace and getting better,the doctor even said i will be discharged next week"

"thats good to hear.and me and my wife actually came here to ask both of you something and i want the truth"

"first catherine my daughter i must tell you that am very dissappointed in you"

"am why is that dad?"

"good question.what is the contract btween you two?"catherine rolled her eyes at the question as it didnt make any sense to her

"alright..he brought his phone opened the mail and showed it to her.he was surprised her expression didnt change.."i guess you understand the question now.give me an explanation to that and tell me its not true"

"dad.am sorry to tell you that everything you read is the truth."richard looked surprised as he didnt know what they were talking about,catherine gave her the phone and he also read the mail.


"how could you even think of something so preposterous?alright i want to hear the reason you did something so stupid and crazy like that"

"am sorry dad,but the reason i did that was because of you dad"

"yes dad,when we found out that you had cancer and had a few months to live,i was grieved in my heart,then you continued mentioning seeing me getting married has always been your wish,so i thought if i could grant your last wish and give a proper send off,then you will die without any regrets,but along the line everything changed dad,the honeymoon to paris changed everything as we started seeing each other in a different light.and am very grateful i met someone as wonderful as richard,i found out that our marriage was planned by God.so i love him and i dont regret marrying him and moreso i destroyed the documents for the contract and we just need to go to the registry and sign our marriage certificate"one hearing the whole story mr anthonys anger dissolved immediately,as he didnt even know what he was going to say he just looked at his wife who was also dumbfounded like he was

as she entered into the compound of the hospital she saw catherine coming down from her car.she approached her with a scornful look on her face

"whats with the expression on your face?"

"what do you mean?"

"never mind.so whats brings you here?"

"what kind of rhetoric question is that?.the same reason while you are here thats what brought me here"

"i thought you were someone to be respected but recently i found out that you are not"

"you dont have any right to insult me.but am going to warn you stay away from him while am been nice or else.."

"somebody please help!!!!..her shout drew the nurses as they came to her rescue as they attended to her and took her inside...

"my daughter how are you?"

"am fine ma"richard noticed something was wrong,she went and sat beside him he got a closer look

"your hair is rough,didnt you comb it before coming and moreso you are sweating"

"well i cooked your favourite rice and put plaintain and some assorted meat and fished and i brought juice"

"mom,at this rate if i keep eating this i will be twice my size by the time i am discharged"

he read the mail just to be sure of what he was seeing,he just received the mail from an unknown source and there was no return adress and no phone number,how can his daughter do such crazy thing,but he needed to calm down and reason on how he would go about it.he came down from the bedroom and met his wife watching t.v.

"honey,we need to discuss somthing very important"she switched off the t.v as she could see the urgency in his voice and the seriousness in his eyes

"honey whats the matter?"he showed him the mail on his phone,she also read it and opened her mouth wide in amazement.after she finished reading it she handed the phone back to him

"do you know who sent it?"he shook his head in the negative

"the person didnt leave a return adress or anything nothing to trace the person"

"am sure the person knows everything that is going on,and it must be someone close to us"

"who do you think that will be??"he was curious

"i have no idea,sincerely,but i know you are very angry but we need to approach this as careful and discreet as possible.i hope you get what i am driving at"

she entered into the hospital trying to catch her breath her joy new no bounds when she heard her son-in-law had regained consciousness.if someone said she was happy it was an understatement she was overwhelmed.she moved to his bedside and smiled at him and richard in turn smiled back even though he asnt able to talk,it was obvious he was very weak

"richard am so happy that you are back with us.i was very worried about you"she noticed his hand moving and she held it in her hands.she was happy indeed.catherine and richards mother just looked in silence,when she was done she almost forgot that a strange woman was sitting by the other side of his bed.cathrine whispered some things in her ears.she was able to get who the woman was..

"am so sorry maam,i didnt know who you were,forgive my manners"

"i understand,am guessing you are her mother"she pointed at catherine and she nodded in the affirmative.

"well its nice meeting you,and i want to also congratulate you on finding your son"

"thank you so much and i must say that you have a really good daughter and i must say my son married a good wife."

"thank you so much."

"i am so happy that my son is in good hands.and thank you so much for taking care of him"

"dont mention"she was very happy that richard had finally meet his mother which he believed was dead but God had different plans for him and now they were now reunited,it was such a special bond which a mother and his children share,she couldnt imagined how she was going to live if something happened to catherine,it would be a total disaster..

emeka heard what happened to richard from sandra and he decided to visit him in the evening,he bought bouquet of flowers on his way as a gift,when he got there he met catherine sitting beside him.

"i just heard what happened and i decided to come visit"

"thank you emeka.am sorry to say he is sleeping at the moment and the doctor said he needs rest"

"of course,i brought some flowers and i hope he gets well soon,and make sure you tell him i came by to say hello"

"of course i will"emeka dropped the flower beside him and looked at rcihard who was fast asleep he felt sorry for him but he did a short prayer for his quick recovery.he bade her farewell and went out...

so many weeks passed and richard was gradually getting better he was now able to talk,eat and do other things that he wasnt able to do before,he was very happy when he saw his mother and from then on their bond began to get stronger as they gisted and laughed together everyday,catherine was a little bit jeaulous but she understood that it been long since he saw richard this happy.and she was glad.that fateful afternoon his mother just left after she promised to come back later.he and catherine needed to talk and he was scared on how she was going to take the whole thing but he needed to summon courage and say it.

"cat.i think we need to talk"that took her by surprise she dropped the newspaper and drew her chair closer to him.she also had been expecting it

"talk about what richard"

"am sure you know what we need to talk about"

she heard that richard mother had come to check up on him,she was very happy and hoped dat when she gets to the hospital she would be there.it as so unfortunate that after so many years that the woman hd not seen her soon,to meet him in such position must be very heartbreaking.she was about going out when her mother came out from her bedroom.she smiled and knelt down on sighting her


"good morning mom"

"good morning my daughter.where are you going early in the morning"

"am going to be hospital.mom do you realise its 7am."

"of course i know,there is something i would like to discuss with you"

"now?"she checked her wristwatch.alright.i think i have about thirty minutes"she sat down on the big setee while her mom sat close to her

"my daughter,your dad told me to ask you when will you return back to work?she heaved a sigh

"mom,i understand,but i want to relax and take care of myself and the doctor said i should not do any hard work"

"of course,but all you need to do is just supervise,you dont need to get involved,the reason been that it will make the staffs on their toes and do their job properly.its no hard work at all"

"alright mom.i will think about it"

"thank you my daughter"she stood up..

"is that all?"

"yes."she took her car keys and headed outside while her mom followed behind

when she got to the hospital she met a woman whom she suspected must be his mother sitting by his bedside.she smiled as she approached her

"good morning ma"she turned to look at who was greeting her,the face was unfamiliar

"good morning,am sorry but i dnt know you"

"am your sons wife"her eyes widened in surprise.

"ohh..i didnt know he is married.there is a lot i have missed about him.and how did you know am his mother?"

"well,when i came in i could see the striking resemblance and moreso he talks about you all the time."

"well i must say that my son got a good wife."

"thank you ma"she took a chair and sat beside her as they both gisted.then suddenly catherine noticed richards hand moving,she wasnt sure whether she was seeing correctly,she looked again and his hand moved again,she quickly stood up while his mom wondered what was wrong,she moved to him and saw his eyes wide open.

"richard,can you hear me??its me catherine"he just looked and said no word,catherine was moved to tears as she couldnt believe her hears.she quickly ran and called the doctor.when he came he examined him.

"well i must say this is a miracle but we will have to observe him closely and see if there is any problem and tomorrow we will run some tests."

"thank you doctor"she was moved to tears while the doctor went out.she sat very close to him and held his hand.she didnt even notice her phone was ringing it had rang five times and she was not aware,she checked the caller it was her mom,she quickly called her back,she picked at the first ring

"my daughter,i have been calling you since what happened?"

"am sorry mom,i didnt know it was ringing"

"alright.so how is he?has his condition changed in any way"

"mom,he just woke up some minutes ago"

"really!!"

"yes.am so happy mom"

"waoh...thats great news."

"give me some minutes and i will be there with you shortly"

the bike that carried her dropped her at the front of his gate,everywhere was quiet as she pressed the doorbell..she waited as the gate opened.the gateman didnt recognise her

"gud afternoon,pls is richard home"the man looked at her from head to toe before he answered

"didnt you hear about what happened?"

"no.i came here because i have been calling him for quite a while now but its not going"

"well since you werent informed,am sorry to say that he got into an accident some weeks ago and i heard that he is currently in coma"if was as if she didnt hear it right

"what did you say happened to him?"

"i said he had an accident and he is in coma"she almost fainted but she regained her balance

"which hospital is he admitted into?"

"am not sure..but i think holy......"he was trying to remember the name but he couldnt

"yes.dats the hospital."

"thank you."she quickly hurried and waved down a bike and headed to the hospital.when she got there she met catherine sitted beside him,she was very angry she didnt tell her the whole thing

when they got to ibadan the following day,agnes and richards mom went to her ex husband house,she had vowed that she was never going to have anything to do with but she had no choice since he was the one that knew the hospital her son was,agnes looked left and right as she saw no one,she wondered if there was anybody home.she was about to enter when mr williams came out.he stopped abruptly looking at the person he was seeing,this was his ex-wife.his expression changed immediately

"what are you doing here?"

"funny you are asking me that kind of question.am sure you know why i am here.so stop pretending and do the needfull"he smiled cheekingly as he got the message her friend must have told her about her son

"am sorry,am busy today maybe you should come back tomorrow"she was really trying to keep her cool but her patience had ran out

"am sure you dont want to feel my wrath today.and i think we are matured people so dont let us cause a scene here and i dont think you understand how i feel but if you did you wouldnt utter such statement"he could see the anger in her eyes to further infuriate her would utimately end in disaster.

"alright.let me go inside and get dressed"

"alright.i will be waiting for you and make it snappy"he went inside and after about five minutes he came out and they both went to the hospital...

when they got to the hospital they were allowed to enter since they recognised mr williams face because he was there a few times and he explained to them who they were as they approached the room her heart was beating very fast.mr williams opened the door slowly and they went inside luckily no one was inside.immediately she saw her son she bursted into tears,he was seriously wounded just as her friend agnes had said she pulled the closer and sat closer like this.she never imagined meeting her son in such critical condition,she took his hand.

"my son your mother is here..i miss you so much and i want you to wake up,we have a lot to talk about"she cried silently while her friend comforted her..

she was very restless as she had not heard from richard she wondered what happened to him,everytime she called his number it was switched off or catherine would pick.maybe he travelled...but if he was going to travel he would have told her.she dialed emeka number as it read a few times before he picked

"hello emeka its me sandra"

"sandra,good evening"

"please do you the whereabouts of richard i have been calling his number for quite a while now but i have not been able to reach him"

"he has shown in the office for like a month my guess is he went on a business trip,he mentioned something like that to me.it must have beem urgent"

"he would have told me even if it was urgent,i know him,am having a bad feeling about this,i have been having nightmares this past few days"

"thank you emeka"she dropped the car and sat down on her bed,she needed to see him as soon as possible.she had been feeling funny this past few days and she didnt understand what was going on?she wanted to go to hospital but she changed her mind and concluded it was malaria,but as time went on it got worse and she saw a doctor,what she found out was shocking.that was why she had been trying to reach him but it was unsuccessful,he deserved to know.maybe she should go to his house tomorrow perhaps she will get some clues as to where he was.she layed back on her bed and slept off...TBC
