Emmanuel Udom Lagos There is apprehension and fear in Ota in Sango Ota, Ogun State. Albinos and hunchbacks may be at risk. There are allegations that an albino and/ or a hunchback are needed to perform some sacrifices before the kingmakers will announce the death of a prominent Oba in the area.Oba Moshood Adetoro Oyede, the Olota of Ota in Sango Ota, who was said to have ascended the throne in 1997, reportedly joined his ancestors on Wednesday, May 25.Allegations are however spreading like wildfire that the traditional institution required an albino or a person with a hunchback to perform some sacrifices before the death will be officially announced.Although news of the death is still discussed in hush-hush tones, online news platforms are awash with news of the passage. The development is presently causing panic in the town as albinos and hunchbacks have scampered to safety. In fact, there are allegations that if the traditional institution cannot easily lay hands on the needed ‘sacrifice’ that they can by some means summon an albino or the hunchback from wherever he is to the place of sacrifice. In many parts of the world, especially in East and Central African countries, albinos are frequently stigmatised, attacked and used for various rituals.Femi Ayodele, a resident of Sango Ota told Independent that the rumour of the ‘sacrifice’ has created tension and forcedpeople to close their shops and other business outfits earlier than usual, even as children are hardly seen playing in the streets.Ken Nwosu, a restaurant operator, whosecanteen is located around Love Bus-Stop,Iju via Ota road in Sango Ota, said he alsoheard rumours that the Oba had died. His words: If the rumour is true, then residents of Sango Ota and its environs are advised to return home early from their offices, business places, schools orsocial engagements, arguing that tradition is tradition, despite our modern life.Ayodele, a public relations consultant alleged that until a sacrifice in made in accordance with tradition, the death of the Oba may not be announced to members of the public.“The announcement, which could come at any time, could serve as a prelude to the commencement of the burial rites of the departed Oba”, he said. But, police authorities at Sango Ota Police Command denied knowledge of death of the Oba, even as they assured that the security architecture of Sango Ota and its environs is intact.According to a police source, the purported tension over the allege death of the Oba is the handiwork of unknown alarmists.“The police are effectively on ground in all parts of Ogun state,” the source boasted.Independent recalls that Oba Oyede ascended the throne of the Olota of Ota in 1997, following the passing of Oba Timothy Talabi Dada.Dada ruled Ota from 1954 to 1992, having taking over from Oba Timothy Fadina, who ruled from 1949 to 1954. http://independentnig.com/2016/05/28/obas-death-tension-in-ota-over-alleged-sacrifice-of-albinos-hunchbacks/ |

The family of Amina Ali, the first of the Chibok girls to be found, are being kept away from her by the Nigerian military, according to her brother who added that he does not know the whereabouts of his mother, Binta, who was also taken away by the military.Amina’s 38-year-old brother, Noah, attendedthe event at the State House last week Wednesday, when his sister and her four-month-old baby, Safiya, were presentedto President Muhammadu Buhari. As soon as the ceremony was over, he was taken to a nearby hotel by a certain Colonel O. M. Aleje, who assured him that he would be reunited with his mother and sister the following day.“He told me that it is time to relax,” Noah said.Noah, who got married in Chibok on April 12, left his new wife at home to accompany his mother, Binta, on the helicopter that took her from Chibok to Maiduguri where they picked up his sister, and then to Abuja where the entire family met with President Buhari. At first, his mother, who had never travelled by air, was afraid to get on the aircraft, but he persuaded her.“I told her not to be afraid,” Noah said. “I encouraged her the way you talk to an old person.”Noah is the 7th child of Binta, while the rescued Amina is the last. However, all the other 11 siblings died between the ages of four and five, leaving him and Amina as Binta’s only surviving children. The following day, Noah kept trying to reachColonel Aleje, but the phone number the army officer had given to him was not goingthrough. He finally managed to reach him on Friday night, only for Mr. Aleje to tell him off for still being at the hotel when the military had paid for only one night.“He told me that I had to leave the hotel,” Noah said. “He said if I continued to stay there, I would have to use my money to pay.”Noah asked Mr. Aleje where his mother was.He told him upfront that he would not be able to see her. Alarmed by the situation, Noah shared his story with one of the hotel’s guests, who kindly gave him N100,000 to find another hotel.“I left the hotel around 9.30pm,” he said. “Imagine if I am someone that doesn’t knowroad, if they just took him from his village and he doesn’t know anything. Do you think that person can find the way?”He eventually spent the night at a cheap hotel in Nyanya, then left for Maiduguri first thing the following morning, where he is currently putting up with his uncle while awaiting news of his mother and sister. He is particularly worried about his mother, who “didn’t go to school and doesn’t know any other language” except Kibaku, the locallanguage in Chibok.Noah is not the only member of the Chibok community who was tossed aside by the Nigerian military after their show at the state house was over.Yakubu Nkeki, chairman of the Chibok parents association, described as guardian to Amina, served as the interpreter when Binta was asked to respond to President Buhari’s remarks during the presentation of Amina at the Aso Villa. She spoke in Kibaku while he (Nkeki) translated to Hausa, then Hadiza Bala Usman, chief of staff to governor El-Rufai and one of the founding members of the Bring Back Our Girls group, translated his Hausa to English. After the ceremony, Mr. Nkeki accompaniedAmina and her mother to the office of the first lady, where he spent an hour chatting with the rescued girl.Afterwards, an army officer came and took Amina and her mother away, allegedly to meet with a doctor, asking Mr. Nkeki to waitfor them there as they would soon return.Three hours later, he was still waiting. At 11pm, he finally gave up and trekked to the closest hotel, where he spent the night.“Till now, I’ve not seen her,” Mr. Nkeki said on Monday, five days after the ceremony at the Aso Villa. “None of us knows where she is.”“My mother doesn’t have her phone with her,” said Noah, explaining that the army personnel had turned up in Chibok around 9am last Wednesday morning, while he and his mother were still getting ready.“They just came and hurried us,” he said, a situation which led to his mother forgetting her phone at home.“What I want now is for them to allow me to come and see them (his mother and sister) to know that they are doing well,” Noah said, adding that he would be happy if the military at least provided his mother with a phone, so that he could talk to her.“I don’t know where she is or how she is feeling,” he said. When contacted, Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, said the rescued girl and her delegation were transported to the presidential villa by the Borno State government.“It was Borno that took charge of all arrangements so I don’t know what you are talking about,” Mr. Adesina said.Borno State Government spokesman, Isa Gusau, denied the claims to PREMIUM TIMES, saying Noah was well treated and was allowed to be a part of the delegation because the state government was interested.“This is false,” Mr. Gusau said. “Although we have not heard from him, but if the Borno State Government was not interestedin the man being a part of the delegation to the president, he wouldn’t have been allowed to join them from Borno State.”Mr. Gusau said the state did its best to ensure that Noah was taken care of.“We believe that we did our best to ensure their safety and well-being during the trip to see the President. So all these claims are strange to us. Unless there is something that he really wants that he hasn’t told us, we really don’t know.”He however did not explain why authorities were concealing the whereabouts of the rescued girl and her mother from the family.Nigerian Army spokesman, Sani Usman, didnot respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ calls and text messages seeking comments for this story.Amina, who was one of over 200 girls abducted by the militants in 2014, was rescued Tuesday after two years in Boko Haram’s captivity, and was brought to meet President Buhari on Thursday, in company with her mother, brother and guardian. At the meeting, President Buhari said the rescued girl would have the opportunity of returning to school and live her dreams,She will receive the best medical, psychological and emotional care that the Nigerian Government can afford, Mr. Buharisaid. He said since nothing could be done to salvage the past, the rest of her life would take a completely different course. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/203937-exclusive-nigerian-authorities-mistreated-brother-guardian-rescued-chibok-girl-meeting-buhari.html |

Its everywhere, people love it and are fascinated and so you made the visit to a tattoo parlor and either have your hand or leg or perhaps neck crested with a tattoo. You feel highly impressed at the designers work of art and can’t wait to show your friends.Friends, i do not doubt that tattoos are infact beautiful and pleasing, but it is the long term effects that bothers me. Over 2 million people alone in Argentina, ranging from celebrities, sport stars and even the common man on the street has a tattoo.Tattoo Inkcan endanger the health than you could ever imagine. So, before you are thinking of getting a tattoo, know the side effects that you are likely to welcome on thelong run: You Feel Uncomfortable due to Its Permanence: Tattoos are made by puncturing your outer skin with ink filled needles; this primarily affects the dermis which is the inner layer of the skin. This causes the outer layer to wear out as you grow older but the ink remains permanent on the innerlayer. This means that you tamper with the complexionof your skin and makes it nearly impossible to get back the original color and texture of your skin after tattooing on it. Well, unless you opt for laser treatment , an external therapy which is so painful and extremely expensive, you might wantto consider a rethink before you regret it in the future Its Chemicals Can Cause Negative Effects: Toxic chemicals like lead, mercury are used in preparing tattoo ink and when these chemicals are injected into your skin via needles, could trigger adverse effects which turns out to be quite detrimental for your skin as it can result to skin cancer and also permeation of major important organs. You should also be aware thatTattoo ink is exactly the same as the ones used to paint automobiles and used for printers. More findings on the dangers of tattoo ink and what it poses to the skin is still ongoing it Aggravates Allergies: Because the tattoo ink is composed of strong and toxic chemicals, there are chances of developing a major skin allergy or a break out just after you get a tattoo made on your body. And this is true especially if a person is already allergic or has tendency to catch bacterial infections. You could get red rashes which are although common in appearance, can cause extreme discomfort through itchy and irritable skin.Hence, get an allergy test done before you go to get that tattoo carved. Common allergies that you might develop are dermatitis, psoriasis, scarring and eczema. It Cause Life Threatening Diseases: One of the most significant and often neglected aspects of getting a tattoo on your skin is that it can cause life endangering diseases like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and AIDS. Mainly due to infected needles and maintaining poor hygiene of the entire tattoo carving process. Giving into pleasure in an attempt to look unconventional and stand out from the crowd sounds cool as long as it does not affect your life. There is no fun in indulging into something that could bring your life to an irrevocable end. Stigma To Your Personality: While tattoos are a beautiful way to express creativity and art, many people in the society are still not very open in their perception about it. Tattoos can attach a stigma to your personality which can make you look rebellious or belongingto a certain genre. This can alter your image when you are out amongst other people. Sometimes it does serve to boost your social image among friends or people thinking “out of the box” especially painters, musicians, stage performers etc.At the same time, it could also lead to adverse effects on situations where a more conventional and formal approach is required. So choose wisely and envision the repercussions it would have on your image. http://healthnfitnessguide.com.ng/the-side-effects-of-drawing-tattoo-on-your-skin/ |

By Bartholomew Madukwe Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, has advised young lawyers to improve on their business skill and not legal skill alone. Stressing the need for a quality legal education, the Attorney General, who was represented by Mr Akintunde Esan, at the Young Lawyers’ Mentoring Programme Launch in Lagos, organized by NBA Lagos branch, noted that young lawyers need quality legal education. He described the event as one that would educate young lawyers on the need to be professionals in business skills in order to improve in their quality of legal service. “In order to improve in the quality of service, we need quality legal education. Young lawyers need to develop their business skill. It is expected that this programme will educate our young lawyers, not just on legal skill, but business skill as well,” he explained. Lagos Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Martin Ogunleye, called on the lawyers to ensure that they serve in their committee or branch and key in to the young lawyers forum. Keynote Speaker of the event, Mrs Priscilla Ogwemoh, managing partner of Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL), maintained that a lawyer must run a law firm first as a business to make profit. “They don’t teach business skills in law school, all they teach us is how to be professionals. As a lawyer, you must run your law firm as a business. Structures must first be put in place. I also like to encourage young lawyers to always go for training,” she stated. One of Nigeria’s oldest lawyers, Pa Tunji Gomez, who celebrated his 88th birthday, on his part, called on senior lawyers to teach the junior lawyers on how they can come together to form a law firm and how to get money. “Times are changing, we must change. Young lawyers need to know how they can come together and apply for fund to start-up. When we came, we were compulsorily attached to senior members- we could not go to the Supreme Court until five years. Development has shown that business lawyers are growing fast,” he added. Former Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Mr Tahir Mamman SAN, lamented that young lawyers ignore pupillage, adding that most senior lawyers spent at least five years learning from their senior colleagues. “After I left service, I contested for governorship election in my state and it didn’t work out. So I met JK Gadzama and he made me a senior partner. The law practice has moved as business. While in JK firm, he talked about mentoring for young lawyers. “The practice of law has become so diverse. It is our plan to sit down with young lawyers and look at a new area they can follow. This is the time for young lawyers to be creative because it is all about the future and your future is the future of the Bar,” he stated. No few than 19 staff of the Lagos State University (LASU) have been dismissed from service for falsification of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) O’ level result which they use to gain employment. Another reason for the sack of some of the staff which was approved by the Governing Council at its statutory meeting was that they absconded from their duty post. According to the LASU bulletin from the Centre for Information Public Press Relations (CIPPR) under the vice chancellor’s office, the council considered the report of the senior staff disciplinary committee on various allegations against the workers and approved their dismissal from service. A breakdown of the list revealed that 15 staff was sacked for falsification of May/June WAEC O’ level results with the oldest claimed result obtained in 1975 and the recent been in 2003. Four staff were dismissed by the governing council for absconding from duty without authorisation of the university management. A further breakdown showed that four of those dismissed are from the security unit, four also from Epe campus, one each from works and physical planning, external system, academic planning unit, registrar’s office, bursary, university library, LASUSOC and Faculty of Science. The dismissal of the 19 staff took effect from different dates 2010 (one), 2013 (three) and of recent 2016 (14) and they are mainly senior staff of the university. http://sunnewsonline.com/lasu-sacks-19-staff-over-waec-result-falsification-abscondment/ |
