A mild drama played out on Wednesday in Kano State as Batch A stream 2 National Youth Service Corps members in Karaye staged a protest over unpaid allowances, which disrupted their Passing Out Parade, POP. The protesters disrupted the passing-out parade attended by the state Commissioner of Information, Moh’d Garba. The corps members lamented they were yet to receive their first allowance which is usually paid before the end of every orientation camp. The protesters welcomed the Commissioner and state NYSC Coordinator, Malam Abdullai Yusuf Baba, with chants: “Hey hey yawah go dey. Hey hey yawah go dey if allowee no pay, yawah go dey.” While they demanded the payment of their allowances, the coordinator said the corps members should have received their first payment alerts either at 4 PM on Tuesday or early Wednesday morning. All attempts by Garba to calm down the crowd were abortive as parade attendees began to leave the parade grounds. Abdullahi, however, promised to pay the corps members their allowances in cash before leaving the camp. Reports say the protest lasted over three hours before NYSC employees eventually brought the money from the bank to pay the corps members in cash. Speaking on the arrival of the allowance, the Commissioner commended the corps members for not allowing the protest to result into crisis. He said, “I will not condemn you for expressing your displeasure. I know we are passing through a tense economic situation,” Garba added. http://dailypost.ng/2016/06/30/unpaid-allowances-corps-members-stage-protest-disrupt-nysc-pop-in-kano/

No Nonsense Topic Association of Nairaland ![]() It's a thing of disgust to see some Nairaland users creating unwanting and irking threads that are totally uncalled for. Threads that go the extra mile to depict their gullibility of what a forum is all about. According to the Oxford dictionary, a forum is a place where people can exchange opinions and ideas on a particular issue. Seun has created one for us but many Nairaland users have made up their mind to abuse the power which emanate from the objective of a forum. One would come in here to see irking topics such as: Am the most handsome guy on Nairaland( clap for yourself, what a way to display your low self esteem), worst of it is in the romance section where you see topics like how many pu**ies have you banged( you must be a pervert to ask such ), another is in the political section where bigots and tribalists promote hate . There are lots of them which I will not be able to finish should I start listing them out. Please let us exchange reasonable opinions and discuss on reasonable ideas. ![]() |

Head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 team, Manu Garba, has told youngsters undergoing screening at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, to work hard and stay disciplined as the screening enters its next stage. Scores of players have already been short-listed after weeks of gruelling exercises, but Garba has warned that the process is not over. “This is just the starting point with your selection and you have to be prayerful because there are crucial stages ahead of you,” he said. “You have to pass the MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Test to play at this level and having said that, you also have to be disciplined and be ready to work hard. ” The experienced coach also made it clear that nobody will influence his decisions. “Don’t think anybody outside here can influence our decision and I want to advise that you tell your people to stop calling us. We want you to work very hard, listen to the instructions of the coaches and be prayerful because it is only God that knows what is good for all of us,” he added http://dailypost.ng/2016/06/29/i-cant-be-influenced-manu-garba-warns-as-eaglets-screening-enters-next-stage/

Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has given her opinion on marriage even as she insisted she will not get married. The actress suggested the need for people to know themselves in and out before thinking of getting married. Recall that the 30-year-old actress had said people only pretend that marriage is rosy. On her Instagram page @halimaabubakar, the chubby actress sometime last month wrote, “I don’t want to ever get married. Those in it are miserable, forget the smiling; go in happy, you become sad just like that. I did not ask you not to marry, if you are happy then amazing. My opinion should not affect you,” the actress added. However, in an interview with Encomium, the actress says marriage is overrated and too much of a headache. According to her, her marital status or lack thereof is nobody’s business. She said, “Yes, because marriage has been overrated. It’s unnecessarily over rated. It’s just too much of headache with how things are now. Even ordinary relationship is a huge burden, huge headache and heartbreaking, let alone marriage. “When you can’t stand each other as boyfriend and girlfriend, how would you live together under the same roof when you get married? “People need to know themselves seriously. When I say seriously, I mean spiritually before getting married. People only know themselves physically, not spiritually, so they end up getting bored with each other. “And they will say they don’t want to get divorce because of what society would say after investing so much on the marriage. “They stay in that marriage and later it may become very irritating and they start fighting. Before they know it, everything becomes violent. You hear people say all sorts of things. “You’re the one who allowed people to get to you and start telling you you’re getting old. You’re the one allowing them to convince you that you’re getting old, you need to get married. Everyone will surely get old. Who won’t get old? “So, when people say I am getting old, get married, I would tell them that’s the only thing they know. People carry marriage like a flag.” Asked if she will be getting married soon, Halima said, “No. “People should only try to be nice about marriage to make me interested in it. Don’t tell me actresses don’t stay in marriage. “Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva have been married for long and they’re still in the marriage. Nothing happened to their union. “Omotola and her husband have been married for long; they’re still very much together. She got married at a young age which is good. “What I am trying to say is that going into marriage needs a lot, you don’t just go into it. My elder sister got married at 26 and she’s doing fine in the marriage with her husband. “Now, tell me why won’t I want a family like that? But these days, people are just too much into social media that’s why marriages are crashing. “Marriage these days is not based on happiness and genuine love. Let me ask, who is that poor person that has married a billionaire son? So, why won’t marriage crash when it’s not based on happiness and genuine love?” http://dailypost.ng/dailystar/2016/06/28/marriage-overrated-much-headache-halima-abubakar/ |
The Federal Government may have ruled out the possibility of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles. Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, made this known after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari. He stated that the current economy was not favourable and added that it was not wise to hire an expatriate, especially as the country is still indebted to some local coaches. “The selection of coaches usually is handled by our technical team; we are a supervising ministry so we have little to do with the process but we have a role in guiding what is best for Nigeria,” he said. “I have always maintained that we even cannot pay indigenous coaches; we still owe them some months of salaries and some of them have even died without those salaries. “Do we still go and look for a foreign coach and will he (the foreign coach) be able to tolerate us without salaries for some time; more so that we may also be paying him in hard currency. “So it’s a fundamental contradiction to swallow easily.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/06/29/fg-kicks-against-foreign-coach-for-super-eagles/ |
