Sorry response was late collected the car this evening gear shift better but only make the gbi sound something.
No delay before engaging reverse or drive.

What's your idle reading(RPM)?? Check if it's high

and you should check your 'inner shaft', if it's bad.

Those two things can be the cause.

When it happened, yes it gave a smell like heated engine oil. And when i checked this morning, ATF actually changed colour which was slightly darker than usual.

I decided to take the car to a mechanic today and it just wont move, Drive or Reverse. None was working, so i had to push it somewhere and i brought my mechanic later in the day.

He unscrewed the pan at the bottom, drained the ATF which already changed to a dark kind of colour, cleaned the pan and the whole area. New ATF was poured in. Car started and it's been selecting well since then.
I am still testing though.

My question now is, the fact that my transmission oil changed colour with a possibly burnt oil (Not sure) will there be a negative effect on the gear internally?

If you've driven the car for some distance and the car got to it's operating temperature; and all is well with the selection, I believe you're fine.

It might just be a case of bad/flat oil....

So, just have faith.

My 2005 Toyota Corolla jerk mildly when I shift to park, it drives well. The jerk started about a week ago. I did a scan and was advised to do service. change the gear oil.by my mech.
After the oil change car jerks when gear is shift from park to reverse to neutral to drive.
Pls mech also advised I change engine seating as they r bad.which I did.
Pls I need help on what to do as the car jerks more now than before the servicing.

No. It only does the same way it has been doing before i poured it. (moves a little and then stops/slips off)

I added Holts ATF of 1L

Thank you sir. I noticed the leakage about a week and some days, i have been checking my transmission dip stick/gauge from time to time, it looks perfectly fine

I added the ATF immediately i few minutes after the gear wont engage

After adding the oil, did the gear engage and moved/selected well before starting to slip off?

And what type of oil did you use?


Slipping off like that points to fried transmission Sha.

Please i have an issue with my camry 1998 gearbox. Firstly it started from not shifting from 1 to 2 in time except i take my leg off the throttle, then toight, i noticed d gear making some kind of sound as i was moving, (it sounds like a frog actually)

I slowed down, then i noticed the car wont move from that point, it sound like revving the car when put in Neutral.

Switched off the car and back on, the car engages and moves a little then slips off and start revving like it's in neutral position again.

I could percieve some hot oil smell when i parked.

I also noticed Transmission oil leaking from underneath which i bought a Litre and poured it in. But it just wont work. Vehicle moves a little and gear stops responding again.

Whats wrong? Is the Gear fried?
What can i do to savage this situation.
Please help.

When did you add the 1 litre? Before it started slipping off or after?

Like when did you notice the leakage??

If yes, then you have your culprit, a failing speedometer.

Either way, if your speedometer does not rise; odometer on or not, the culprit is the speedometer.

Please I need an experienced information on this issue. My pencil light just developed a fault that is very complex. I noticed that when the car is driven for a long time or if it's parked where it's exposed to direct sun light, the mileage numbers will go off and the gears won't select any more.
I will need to off the car and keep for a long time before it can normalize.

Whenever the odometer goess off, does the speedometer work?

Next time drive and see if the speedometer rises at all?

If it doesn't, my novice suggestion is that you check the speedometer, maybe replace it.

No matter what we write here, it doesn't change the fact that you cannot drive this car on bad roads for one month without one of the front tyres falling off. The only difference is that the so-called man that has good maintenance will keep replacing ball joints whereas the guy that does not give a damn would wait for it to fall off.

Do not be surprised if one of the tyres on that car is on the way out. For Nigerian-used 7th gen Accords, that's usually the time owners let them go. I know this because I've been car shopping with a friend who wanted this car and not one we saw had good legs. I advised him but he kept insisting so I decided to let him see for himself.

The good news is that he got another brand of car in the end.

On the plus side, Honda makes really good engines if you use the right oil and change it when due. Same goes for the transmission.

Every car has its cons so it's best you are duly informed and pick your poison appropriately. We all know smoking is bad, but it does not stop people from smoking.

Obvious things I noticed is that brake fluid is is licking, they just changed the master brake cylinder though.
Radiator is running on ordinary water,
Car is not 1st body,
Car vibrates a little when AC is on but the AC is mortuary standard..
Shocks are okay n tires are just fine..
Fan is connected direct
No check engine light though n milage is 197900.
What are you thoughts on this please.
