Politics / PRESS STATEMENT: Federal Government Lauds Citizens, Extends NIN-SIM Linkage Dead by mazinaija: 11:51pm On Feb 02, 2021
WRITTEN BY MEDIA TEAM PUBLISHED: 02 FEBRUARY 2021
The ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) integration exercise has been extended by 8 weeks, with a new deadline of April 6, 2021.

This message was conveyed by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) during the meeting of the Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration held on February 1, 2021. Dr Pantami stated that the extension is to give Nigerians and legal residents more time to integrate their NIN with the SIM.

The meeting was chaired by the Honourable Minister and attended by key stakeholders, including the EVC/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), DG/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), DG/CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON). Others include the MD/CEOs of MTN, Airtel, 9Mobile, Ntel, Spectranet and SMILE, as well as the Chief Operating Officers (COO) of Globacom.

It was reported that a total of 56.18 million NINs have been collected by the mobile network operators. Each NIN is usually tied to an average of 3 to 4 SIMs and this infers that the current figure accounts for a significant portion of the existing SIMs. This number of NINs collected represents a significant increase when compared with the 47.8 million reported by the Technical Committee on January 18, 2021.

Furthermore, over 1, 060 registration centres for NIN have been activated and made operational by NIMC across the country, while Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have opened hundreds of centres and are rapidly deploying resources to open thousands of other NIN enrolment centres across states of the country. This is in line with the policy of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to enhance security and make the process of obtaining NINs easier for Nigerians.

The CEOs of the telcos and the Chairman of the ALTON commended the Honourable Minister for his stellar leadership and commitment to the rapid development of the sector.

Dr. Pantami reiterates the need for Nigerians and legal residents, who are yet to register for the NIN, to be diligent and take advantage of the extension to enrol for their NIN and link with their SIMs. It would be recalled that the 4th of February, 2020 was the initial date of the commencement of the National NIN-SIM Registration Policy.

The Federal Government of Nigeria applauds all Nigerians and persons of other nationalities for their understanding, cooperation and for enthusiastically participating in the exercise. The Honourable Minister also commended the efforts of NIMC, NCC, MNOs and all other relevant government and private sector organisations for their unflinching support towards the success of the exercise.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his satisfaction with the progress made regarding the NIN-SIM linkage and commended the Honourable Minister and all stakeholders for their roles. He encouraged citizens to take advantage of the extension to fully participate in the process.

The Honourable minister implores applicants to follow the safety guidelines at all the NIN enrolment centers and ensure compliance with the booking system in place. This protocol is in line with the Executive Order on COVID-19 2020 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 27th of January 2021, in keeping with the provisions of the Quarantine Act 2004.

It is noteworthy that Sections 27 and 29 of the NIMC Act 2007 provides for the mandatory use of NIN for transactions, including application and issuance of a passport, opening of personal bank accounts, purchase of insurance policies, voter registration, obtaining credit, among others.

Signed:
Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde
Director, Public Affairs,
Nigerian Communications Commission.

The problem is lack of forex.
Lack of forex is caused by unwillingness to trade other resources like gold, bitumen, iranium for the dollar as oil is being traded.
If zamfara and co should release their gold and it is sold like oil, there will be plenty dollar to go round and it will crash to even N100 or N50 a dollar.
the problem here is that you might not be able to sell the resources you mentioned above in the same quantity and value as crude oil

This is revenue, though it averages N106B per month. The prospect of a good profit margin cannot be argued against, truth is they end up doing a lot of things they shouldn't be doing by themselves and that opens the door for adjustment to recurrent expenses.

Imagine the diesel they burn to keep each mast alive then multiple that by the number of mast they every 3km in cities and every 5km along busy highways. That's huge expenses incurred due to a weak power supply system in the country.
Telcos this size clearly isn't for start ups or experimenting entrepreneurs.
3km is too much, due to capacity the maximum distance is 500m in cities

I learnt a new thing here today. Thats the term "Hustling Backwards". I juxtaposed it with all my failed investments with banks and financial institutions and it just dawned on me further that this life is a scam. It has further reinforced my belief that every money I make henceforth will be spent on myself and myself alone. No more savings or further investments.

Let me explain what I discovered with the above quote

If someone has invested 800k last year for a 12% returns this year, if you juxtapose it with the current inflation rate viz a viz dollar and naira exchange rate, you will come to understand that you are hustling backwards. Theoretically and on paper, you are making money. But practically in the real world, you are loosing money.

What makes it worse is that these rogues called financial institutions use your so called investments and do real investments that pay well, pay you a fraction of the profit while still making you keep your so called "gains" with them which they will use for further investments that is still to their gain! I will use a story of what happened in an African country to explain this further.

A story has it that a very poor African country discovered some mineral resources in their country. They didnt know what to do with it. Eventually, they invited a Chinese Consortium to come and explore and handle it. They bargained prices and within 3 months, the Chinese consortium paid them off for the Mineral resources with money made from the sales of the Mineral resources!

This I believe is also what happens in Nigerian financial institutions. They feed you on imaginary tomorrow billions if you invest your hard earned money with them. What do they do with the money? They invest it in businesses which you yourself could have invested on. Then pay you a fraction of the profits.

Something else I find funny is the way people hype this "Invest for the future" of a thing.

Thats the reason why you see people do so many unethical things to survive. Brother will kill brother to sell his land and invest in the so called useless future. Fellow Citizen will manufacture chalk and mix it with chemicals to produce paracetamols for human consumption. Fellow human being will dismember a fellow human being for rituals all in a bid to secure the future.

Thats the real reason why we are where we are today. Everywhere so messed up. Bad news everywhere.
All because of Mindless capitalism without recourse to the natural law. Money Money Money. Future Future Future. What about Today Today Today?

Burna Boy Sang... Dangote Dangote Still dey find money oo. If I may ask, what is he still finding in this life especially in Nigeria where a vast majority of her people live below abject poverty.

As at today, he is worth over 10 billion USA FREAKING DOLLARS. Put into context, thats Three Trillion, Six Hundred and Seventy Billion Naira. Only 1 person! So many of you will praise this and call it God's blessings. But in an ideal world, what is one person doing with such wealth when others barely have a roof over there head?

Yesterday, I spoke about "What it really takes to survive and stay afloat" in business realistically speaking.

Do you know how many souls this man's trailers has sent to the great beyond to amass this kind of wealth? Do you know the enormous amount of blood that holds the horrendous foundation of this stupendous wealth? These are just bits of millions of examples of the horrors of the business world.

If I may ask finally, what guarantee do we even have for this so called future?

What if an asteroid from space wipes of the earth? What happens to all these stashed away monies in the banks?

What if Ocean water overuns the earth and that your land at Ajah and Ibeju Lekki goes underwater and becomes useless?

What if an alien civilisation takes over the earth tomorrow?

What if Corona Virus wipes of everyone eventually?

What happens to all those Treasury Bills, Bonds, Shares and Market Capitalizations?
Anyone that follows your advice will see no meaning to Life and might just end committing suicide, not withstanding there are some element of truth on your submission

1st rule: your doors always on central lock.

Go back like 200 pages n read up.

Read up " Xghost" stuff in September last year on " Airport rules"

Also " angry Igbo man" on some areas he mentioned.

Read up. You wud b fine.

mind you angry Igbo man is not totally right...he has limited knowledge of Lagos street.
For instance if you are taking a trip to marina, only drop off your rider at oando or any of the car park, but make sure your rider pays for car park.
For pick up at marina, direct your rider to meet you at oando... For Tinubu square direct your rider to meet at CBN. Anywhere other than that, you must be very smart and bold to do it. You can also do your pick up at kakawa and in front of first bank

After I posted what I posted, most pilots are calling it "Joke". I laugh at your ignorance in Japanese. Any serious learner should take what I posted very serious. Those areas are that dangerous and bad. I added small comedy to make it look simple. But I can be mean to you if you dare try to damage by source of income by taking me to places like kirikiri or Akute.

This business is all about survival. Riders are trying to kill you by making you go to bad areas. They will all sound nice and sweet and tell you how you are a good driver.

Hear me soul brother. Its all about there selfish interest. If your car or partners car should die, NOBODY GIVES A FUCCK ABOUT YOU. HUNGER WILL KEE YOU. Protect yourself in this Lagos brothers.

Some of you are of the hopeless opinion that when you are nice to riders or people, they will reciprocate by telling you to SUPPLY 1000 TRAILER LOADS OF WHITE SAND FOR SAND FILLING ELEGUSHI BEACH. Let me teach you something Mugu. The average Human being especially a Nigerian not to talk of a Lagosian is always trying to kill you to survive. Thats why your partners don't give a hoot about your welfare. They will compliment you on how you are a good driver and you remit money always. They will tell you how your reward is in heaven. You are always om the road sleeping like an animal by Northwest filling station or admiralty Lekki.

The day anything happens to you (God forbid), they are replacing you immediately with another driver. Its as easy as that. I don't want to detail this.

Regarding missing items, let me teach newbie drivers my policy which I learnt the hard way. My policy has always been;

DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL.

Let me tell 3 stories to buttress my point

Last 2 years, I took a hopeless woman rider from Maryland to Lekki. Her son forgot his school bag in my car. On a normal day, the protocol would have been to drive to Uber or Bolt office and drop the bag there. Two days later being that I was trying to be a nice man then and PROBABLY EXPECTING TO WIN A CONTRACT TO REPAIR IKORODU ROAD FOR BEING A GOOD DRIVER, I drove all the way from Okota to Lekki phase 1 to drop the bag. Guess how much this hopeless woman gave me? 500! She said she is suspecting I live around Lekki and that am just trying to bill her. Can you imagine? I live in Lekki and am doing Uber? How will I pay rent? This very mean woman left me at her gate and went inside. I was just outside looking like a morron.

Another time, another very useless woman requested me from Ojota to Ilupeju. She fogot her make up kit in my car. When I drove down from Iju side to Ilupeju to return her make up kit, this woman just said THANK YOU and entered her car. I was just watching her. She did not even talk anything about my fuel. The thing pepper me die. I called on God and heavens were closed.

The 3rd and last time, a very pathetic, lousy, wretched woman this time around forgot her house keys in my car. She stays at Gbagada. Based on my bad experiences returning missing items, I decided to negotiate price before going. This forlorn Kaput woman was so mean and rude. She was shouting that am selfìsh and that I should have returned the key first before any other thing. I tried to explain say na condition make crayfish bend. This woman swore that she will never listen. When she noticed am not succumbing, she said she will give me 2k. I didn't know it was a format. When I arrived from SURULERE, this woman said I should wait because money is inside. She took her house keys from me, went inside her house and locked it. I was there sitting like a foool for 2 hours. I was calling and calling and calling. She eventually blocked my line.

I left sad, wounded, bruised, hurt and dejected.

When I reached my house, I formulated the policy of

DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL.

If a rider forgets anything, don't call to ask them if they forgot anything. If they call to ask about anything they forgot, don't tell them anything.

If I should look back and see anything lost in my car, AM THROWING IT STRAIGHT INTO THE OCEAN ANYTIME AM ABOVE 3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE. I will use it and contribute to the growth of the economy of the marine Kingdom.

If I should tell you valuables I have thrown overboard... You won't believe me. I mean even sensitive documents and highly valuable articles and items. THE FACT IS THAT I DO NOT CARE ANYMORE. People are so mean spirited.... Why should I be nice? Am I Jesus?

I stay around Ajah axis. Should I drive down to Uber or bolt office to submit it, who will pay me? If I return it to riders, they are so mean spirited. Uber or Bolt has no robust system that pays a certain amount for returning items. They don't care. Why should I care?

To the man that saw a missing phone and was blocked... Were you not the one that admitted to seeing a phone? I can't give you business secrets on how I deal with situations like this. Very clean, straight and apt.

To any of you reading this, I pray none of you becomes my rider and foget anything. Believe me its going straight to the Ocean even if its a Laptop.

Afugom ife na uwa. Agbusi gbaa otula, omuru ako. Ukpala okpoko gburu, nti chiri ya. Onye anwu gbara na agba oso ma ohu ijiji. Ana esi na na isi ahu ama uto nsi. Ogom egbulam biko. Where will I even start and stop with this proverbs?

Infact, There is a particular spot I park and throw them. If a diver should dive and go straight down that spot, plenty things are there.

Am not going to use it either because am not a THIEF. Am not returning it too because THERE IS NO GUARANTEE YOU WILL PAY ME.

I BOUGHT MY CAR THROUGH SUFFERING. I FUEL MY CAR THROUGH SUFFERING. YOU DID NOT BUY FUEL FOR ME. I DID NOT COME TO LAGOS TO DIE.
]bro for the sake of humanity stop throwing valuables away like that....This is my approach, when you forget any item in my car,you have two options, either I request bolt or uber to return it no matter the distance or cost I don't care,or you wait until trip brings me around your place anytime by chance or luck..... This policy has always worked for me......I don't negotiate price to return forgotten item, but if you offer me anything, I go say thanks but I didn't come to return it because I want your money but because a trip brought me to your vicinity....

My brother my brother I agree with you on this and I’ll keep this your advice in one of my achieves.
. DON’T ASK DONT TELL

Adolf Hitler says “if you tell a lie and stand by it that lie lie will turn out to be the truth”.

Notwithstanding, I disagree to some areas which you mentioned in your first post. But anyways, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Most people say festac is a no go zone but someone says it’s his best area, if you know your way in and out you won’t encounter any issues even with traffic or bad road.

One thing I try not to do is argue with a professor/emeritus or a resurrected jesus, like what do you want to teach such a person.

All the same, thanks for the knowledge shared. I must say you’re a good comic writer.

Dokyoloye, the general term 'Oga' can be an hallmark of respect among contemporary Nigerians but its different with these Olosho girls especially with their tone .
You need to walk a mile in our shoes to understand what we go through .
One just ruined my day as i am typing this. When i got her request at Lekki , i put a call through to ask for destination and she flared up, so i tried to explain that I've been dodging VIO officers for sometime due to my broken tail light, that i have been extorted on this job enough, so i'd like to keep away from their troubles (12pm -3pm) even though i knew i will be at fault, if they apprehend me but ain't gat the money to buy a new brake light, she hissed throughout the call and later VGC.
Midway through our journey, i perceived some foul smell, i had to open the window for fresh air but the odour didn't go away, Damn!
When we got to ikate, i told her i need to pull over to check what's smelling, only for me to discover that this girlie don shit for body inside my chacha leather seats Ford Mondeo cry
It was nauseating and before i could utter a word, she vomited. I had to rush to get her water to clean up.
My car is messed up already and the only word she mutter was i will give you 500 naira to clean your car at a car wash.
I felt like slapping this skele and after i managed to take her to her destination, rudely, she said she does not have any money on her, that the person she came to see is not picking her calls .
She didn't even give me the pleasure of an apology. This was someone who lashed out at me for not putting on my AC before i drove to her street, hissed at me because my car charger didn't recognize her iPhone cord.
What would you do in that situation?
Was she drunk or out........I can't take any 500 from her, she must clean the poo and do a thorough cleaning of my car, else the world will hear us on how she poo inside my car

@1daboi, are you interested?
I'm calling it quit December 31st by God's grace.
Its like one need a special kind of training to drive in Lagos : from LASTMA's trap to a girl stealing my money in my car arm rest to FRSC sitbelt fine.
Nna, i am tired, i cannot come and kill myself.
In between there's something i have observed within 3 months of my Ehailing journey : there are good days you'll get tired of accepting requests. I mean using a 3400 naira fuel to gross 18k like i did yesterday and there were days, that amount of fuel won't gross 10k, you'll just chin up and take it as one of those days.
I think I'll write a book soon titled 'The Perils of driving in Lagos ' grin
Dem don show me pepper for this work. grin
Hope you are not quitting because of Lastma and touts on the road.....I did e-hailing full time for 2 years and I never had any problem with Lastma,FRSC and vio..I only encountered Local government touts which i dealt with very easily by simple central lock on my car and I have never giving a dime to them.....I only bought beer on one occasion to policemen at aguda because I entered a one way which I argued with them....The secret with law enforcement agents in Lagos is don't panic and don't beg them...and never let them into your car.......I still drive sometimes going from work I set destination trip, but if the rider calls and sound rude on the phone or delays above 5mins without good reason at pick up,then your name na cancel...Bottom line don't quit because of the challenges, you will surely get over them.

Boss I never said she was wrong, this is a case of logics and ignorance either from me or her part... If she have a case, she should forward it to Bolt and let them do the needful, I didn't even check to know if the app display toll gate added, all I told her is I'm going to take displayed fee... Need you know (I may b wrong), bolt do deduct 20 percentage from total fees including toll gate, Dats 60 naira, which account do you want to to bring that from?

I've seen both fair and unfair part of this hustle, I don't use saka or have the intention of cheating anyone, like I once said, I won't place myself at the receiving end to please riders (or all riders).

Dont quote me ..but the car god on nairaland said you can get a (used corolla) naija used for 1,350,000. So with your 1.2m naira just add small money join am to 1,350,000 and buy the Corolla.. And pryyay to God that in the next few months that you dont come to nairaland complaining.. And the complain usually starts like this ..

Car Owner: Please nairaland, I need your help.. My corolla that I bought short oil

Nairaland: how much oil does it short and is there any leaks

Car Owner: There is no leaks anywhere, and I had normally top the oil every 2k miles

Nairaland: check the exhaust for smoke ,white smoke or blue smoke .

Car Owner: I have check there is no smokes at all

Nairaland: check the pcv valves

Car owner : have check the pcv valves and it seems ok

Nairaland: what oil have u been using

Car Owner : have been using 20w50 ,but let me check with the previous owner.

Nairaland: plz check o

Car Owner: the previous said 20w50...

Nairaland: but the oil cap said 5w30 is the rite grade

Car Owner: where can I buy 5w30..

Nairaland: we have oyel sellers in the forum cc: dru23,myparts, radauto ,Gazzuzz

Car Owner: so if I buy the 5w30 the oil will not short again?

Nairaland: just continue using the 20w50 ..20w50 is very thick and it will burn much slower than 5w30..

Car Owner: God bless you sir. I will continue using the 20w50

*************** Few months later *****************

Car owner : Please nairaland, my Corolla is smoking all types of smoke, blue smoke, yellow smoke all types... I took it to my kazzem .. He said I need a new engine and I dont have money to buy tokunbo engine...

Nairaland: well your mechanic is rite . You need a new engine

Car Owner : car I buy for 1,350,000 and it needs new engine . already . I thought Corolla na strong car .

Lol,so funny. I can never buy a Nigerian used car, unless I know the owner and maintenance history.... Mind you I only use Mobil 1

Just because someone said so... try to think outside the box bro.. Na because someone said so...yes Toyota is reliable no doubt ..but they are others cars out there more cheaper and equal to the task ....since the crazy hype over corolla regular maintenance is very much ignore... like basic oil change or use of wrong grade oil .. People will say na Toyota ,it is rugged just buy oil and put and drive ......
I have tried to think in and outside the box,but at the same time I ask questions too. Civic is a very good car,but it would be difficult for me to invest more than 1.3m on a car and give it out to a drive who will in turn start telling no Request and that all he can pay is 25k...I will also not invest in a corolla with 1.8m or more for the same story....So if you can help me,is there a reliable and a tokunbo I can invest 1.2m or less for ehailing and give it to a drive?if civic is within that range I dont mind....

If you ask Dru23 or tojahh, they'll tell you why a civic is a great car, and why you should use it

I have driven a corolla, an elantra and a Camry on ehailing and I'm yet to see the peace of mind a corolla gives, that others haven't given me. I only wanted to learn, but then, the bolded seems to be your only reason for saying that....

I'll just search for my findings then grin
bro corolla is very reliable more than the other cars you mentioned, even Gazzuz can confirm to that,he sometimes tells me the advantage corolla has over other cars yet he is not a fan of corolla. Even me has started hating corolla because of the high price nothing more.

Before I knew it, a man came down from his car and start snuggling out with them, I've done nothing, he took it soh personal to the point of snapping them, this lead to physical assault. I wasn't even aware of all this as I was still battling with the lady calling towing van cos I refused to follow her order, on my part I'm placing calls to my connection as well, while the man and the other officer have dragged each other to area G. When its all said and done, they can't let me go due to the case becoming an assault and they need me as a witness, so I was referred to the station instead of lasma office, from 10am, it took me 1.30pm to leave as they detained the man and made me to deny him if we are not accomplice, I felt bad, but at the same time felt the man blew things out of proportion. Las las the lady was begging me and ask me to exercise patient cos DPO is involved in the case, I was just looking at her like " I don't care". At the end I drop 3k willingly when leaving since they ask for atall stall.

Oga abeg park, which one is if they are tokunbo or not.
Why are you always speaking for everybody?
Are you the only car owner that started with Uber?
I am telling you something I know and you are here arguing, what concerns the owner with maintenance again on HP arraignment? Huhh?
when the owner doesn't care about maintenance, that is where his failure will start from

Pls all this drivers coming here to say rubbish about how much u make and bragging u hit 150 a week, when we know it’s Loki and Saka u are using to defraud ur riders... pls
stop that nonsense....

And partners pls before you think all drivers are wasting your time and investment because u have seen Jesusson2020 and co weekly income so u think your driver is lazy pls I will advice u enter road for one week drive by urself if u can make profit of 50k with ease without Loki then come here and brag...

This work is getting tougher and tougher cus everyone is on it... Uber and taxify are fighting to get customers so they are reducing their fares everyday... roads are bad, traffic is crazy, rain and all sort affecting the business, drivers are getting robbed and even killed by thief’s, fatigue killing drivers too.... all sort is happening... how can u buy car 2001 - 2004 and expect ur driver to give u no stories...

Yes all business have their own issues, so that is why u shouldn’t expect too much and kill ur driver cus he is not meeting target.

So many drivers mess up we know... but soo many partners are greedy.

Give me 2007 and above Corolla direct tokunbo for rent or hp and tell me to give u 30k I will deliver.. no stories

or give me a clean direct tokunbo 2005 - 07 sienna I will deliver ur 150 per month. No stories....

Don’t just invest based on what u see on internet... do visibility studies look the risk and take calculated risk....
You just proved that you know nothing about the business..... I pity your next partner

Good one boss. Clarification is not for those who are in the know, but for those who might see 100k plus and assume that its a given to make such when you are on the taxify platform.

Any long trip must fail on bolt these days, thank God for review
not all,but long trips always fail, especially long trips with heavy traffic.imaging vi to abule egba 1100 after fare review it took 24 hours to review to 3200,thank God it was card trip, but most cash trips reviews almost immediately... For Most cash trips I negotiate with rider unless the inconsiderate one's.
