Politics › Re: EFCC Arrests Bashir Yuguda And Others Over $2billion Arms Deal by Mbediogu(m): 8:55pm On Nov 30, 2015 |
DickDastardly: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, and a number of top officials from the office of the National Security Adviser over the controversial arms procurement scandal surrounding former NSA, Sambo Dasuki.
Multiple sources at the EFCC told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Yuguda was arrested Monday afternoon and was currently being quizzed by detectives.
Our sources said a huge amount of money; “running into billions” was allegedly traced to the former minister from funds meant for arms procurement.
“The funds were directly transferred to him from the NSA office and he has been unable to explain the rationale for the transfer,” a source said.
“The transfers were made to his account between December 2014 and May 2015.”
Also arrested over the same matter, according to our sources, are some senior officials at the NSA office, including the director of finance.
“The suspects are being grilled by crack detectives and may not be allowed to go home soon,” one source said. The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was yet to be briefed on the arrests.
“I’m aware that our detectives are looking into the case but I’m not sure who and who has been taken in,” Mr. Uwujaren said on telephone.
He promised to revert as soon details become available. A presidential investigations committee into arms procurement under the Goodluck Jonathan administration had said in its interim report that it found extra-budgetary spending by the Jonathan administration to the tune of N643.8 billion and an additional $2.2 billion in the foreign currency component.
But Mr. Dasuki has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, saying all contracts and accruing payments on arms procurement were made based on the approval of Mr. Jonathan, adding that due process and military procurement regulations were followed in all the transactions.
“Nigerians should note that all the services generated the types of equipment needed, sourced suppliers most times and after consideration by the Office of the NSA, the President will approve application for payment,” Mr. Dasuki in a recent statement.
Mr. Jonathan however said in Washington last week that his government never awarded any contract in the range of $2 billion dollars.
“I did not award any $2 billion contract for procurement of weapons,” Mr. Jonathan said, querying, “Where did the money come from?” and repeating emphatically that “I did not award a contract of $2billion for procurement of weapons”.

There is no such burden on that well dressed God blessed future leader from point of his job at the moment. It is good to dress well at all time though but a barrow pusher dressed that will attract more attention than a marketer in suit under the sun. Politics › Re: My Take On The Political Bruhaha In Kogi State - Cramjones by Mbediogu(m): 10:27pm On Nov 26, 2015 |
cramjones: The events that have taken place in Kogi state gives credence to the rot and capriciousness that characterizes the Nigerian political space! In the words of the great Chinua Achebe, there was indeed a country!
Permit me again, to express my condolence to the Audu family, even though I give him and owe him no eulogies for the begger status he brought Kogi citizens into while he governed. His most notable acheivement for the much I remember is owning a house next to that of Michael Jordan. Haven said that, I find it preproterous that the APC in Kogi state intends installing a younger Audu to be the candidate. This simply shows the following:
1. The reason for a deputy governor or vice president, is mainly to have someone capable of governing affairs of a state or nation in the absence of the principal. The fact that Faleke is not seen fit to take over that mantle, shows that he was only taken by Audu to be his stooge while the looting continues. Why take someone as a deputy governor that you have no confidence in?
2. The APC in Kogi state has no constitutional right to install another replacement. According to law, they are either to conduct another primary or let Faleke be the front runnter. I understand the constitution in this matter is very murky and there is nothing spelt out in the 1999 constitution to guide the actions of the APC. Nevertheless, the people of Kogi must resist the younger Audu and the hegemony that is about to be imposed on them.
3. The Nigerian police should look into the accusation of rape by the Audu's and recover the N11 billion alleged to have been looted by the old Audu. We either have laws or we don't have a country. PMB must lend his voice to this mess.
4. I hope the 17 year old girl (wife) that has been taken advantage of act as a good step mother to the 43 year old Audu and advice him to sheet his swords and step down. Regardless, except the Kogi people are foolish - they must resist such blatant arrogance and hegemonic tendencies by the Audus, and make their state great again!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
U nailed the issue. Kogi ppl will get what they deserve. God has His reason for doing what He did.

exlink10: The Nigeria Police did a wonderful job today, Wednesday November 25, 2015 when some of its officers engaged some armed robbers in a shoot out and killed five suspects in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos state.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), apart from the suspect killed during the fierce gunbattle, one of them was arrested alive with bullets wounds. Police sources informed that the suspects had engaged policemen from Elemoro Division in Ajah during the severe shootout, and five of them lost their lives on the spot.
The source said: “The police in Elemoro got information that the suspects were operating at Abule Parapo, opposite Awoyaya in Elemoro area of Ajah around 2 a.m. “The suspects engaged the police in a shootout as soon as they saw them. Two locally made double barrel shot guns, one cutlass and iron cutter was recovered from them.
“The gang had been terrorising residents of Ajah, robbing and raping women.” After the shootout, the corpses of the dead and the injured suspects were reportedly taken to the Lagos state police command headquarters, Ikeja at about 12.15 pm, NAN reports.
The case has since been taken over from SP Sani Limawa, the Divisional Police Officer at Elemoro by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation. DSP Joseph Offor, the police spokesperson, when contacted, noted that he was yet to get a report on the issue. - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/11/police-kill-5-armed-robbers-arrest-1-in.html#sthash.VPm0OMtn.dpuf
