Family / Britain's Biggest Family Just Got Bigger by McAdem: 4:25pm On Nov 23, 2012
Baker's wife Sue Radford knows what it is to have a bun in the oven - she has just given birth to her 16th child.

The 37-year-old supermum now has nine sons and seven daughters since welcoming little Casper into the world just over a month ago - in a labour that took just 16 minutes.

But incredibly, being Britain's biggest family alone is not enough for Sue, who told husband Noel as soon as she came home from hospital: 'I want another.'

The couple, who together run a bakery in Morecambe, Lancashire, are completely self-sufficient and receive no state benefits.
Britain's biggest family

Big family: (1) Chris, 23 (2) Sophie, 18 (3) Chloe, 17 (4) Jack, 15 (5) Daniel, 13 (6) Luke, 11 (7) Millie, 10 (cool Katie, 9 (9) James, 8 (10) Ellie, 7 (11) Aimee, 6 (12) Josh, 4 (13) Max, 3 (14) Tilly May, 2 (15) Oscar, 1 (16) Casper, 1 month

They live in a nine-bedroom former care home in the town which has an industrial-sized washing machine and a giant fridge to keep the mountains of food the family get through every day.

Food costs the couple £250 a week. Each day the family eats three loaves of bread, two boxes of cereal and 18 pints of milk while an average supper can include 16 pork chops, 15lbs of potatoes, three cabbages and 30 carrots.

Noel and Sue Radcliffe with their fifteen children.

Bundle of joy: Casper was born on October 3 after a 16-minute labour before they bought him back to their family house, a nine-bedroom former care home

'I just love being a mummy. We are so lucky,' Sue told The Sun. 'I get very emotional when I see the children all together.

'I know people stare. Some think they won't get the attention they need, but people don't realise how dedicated we are... And maybe we'll be lucky enough to have more.'

The couple began their family unexpectedly early when they were teenagers and she was still at school. For other couples this might have spelled disaster, but not for the Radfords, whose eldest son Christopher is now 23.
What a load: James, eight, Katie, nine, Ellie, seven, Aimee, 11, and Chloe, 17, with their washing at the family's industrial-sized machine

In each other's footsteps: Food to feed the brood costs the couple some £250 a week

Sue finished school and they married when she was 18, planning to have 'perhaps another one or two' children.

Once Sophie, 18, and Chloe, 17, had arrived, however, the couple discovered they were enjoying parenthood so much that they just kept going.

It was after the arrival of Jack, 15, and while Mrs Radford was pregnant with Daniel, 13, that the couple found their current house - a nine-bedroom Victorian former old people's home that was in need of work.

And sure enough it wasn't long before with each new room they decorated, there were children to share it.

In quick succession they had Luke, 11, Millie, ten, Katie, nine, James, eight, Ellie, seven, and Aimee, six.

Then, after a brief gap, came Josh, four, Max, three, and Tilly May, two, followed.

A year ago Sue gave birth to Oscar before Casper was born last month at a healthy 8lb and 8oz.

Mr Radford works hard running the bakery, which is just a short drive from home, while Mrs Radford helps out whenever she's not on maternity leave.

And their extended family just got bigger after Sophie gave birth to Sue and Noel's first grandchild Daisy.

A lot of madness in Africa.
Foreign Affairs / Mugabe’s Plan To Move Zimbabwe’s Capital To Own Hometown by McAdem: 5:59pm On Nov 18, 2012
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has come under fire after the government unveiled plans to relocate the capital city from Harare to his rural district, a move his coalition partners say they were not consulted on.

Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo this week revealed that plans were underway to build a new parliament building, government offices, a State House and residential properties in Mt Hampden, about 40 kilometres west of Harare, to serve as the country’s new capital city.

Chombo said the move was meant to decongest the present capital city which has a population of more than 1.6 million people, the Zambian Watchdog reports.

The proposed city is in Zvimba district, which is President Mugabe’s home district, and which already receives higher funding from the government despite its relatively smaller population.

The report said Chombo, who hails from the same district as the president, said the new city would be modelled alongside the affluent Johannesburg of Sandton in South Africa.

Chinese companies involved in diamond mining and which have been heavily investing in hotels and shopping malls in Zimbabwe are expected to be given the contracts for the new project.

“Government will make sure that the city has multiple supplies of water by setting up three to four water treatment plants near the city, unlike the situation in Harare where water is pumped from the city,” he said.

But Mugabe’s inclusive government partners said they were not aware of the plans and speculated a section of his Zanu-PF party wanted to use money siphoned from diamond mines to build their rich enclave.

“As usual you never know, it could be diamonds funds that they intend to use to build the city,” said Ms Priscilla Musihairabwi-Mushonga from the Movement for Democratic Change.

Other Zimbabweans questioned the logic of building a new city when most of the country’s urban centres were collapsing due to the economic problems that have persisted for more than a decade.

One of the leading dailies, NewsDay, in an editorial on Friday accused Chombo of “seeking (President) Mugabe’s attention and to score Brownie points while at it” by pushing the project.

It wrote, “This is the same minister who has presided over the decay in Harare and the best solution he can offer is to build an affluent city for the same fat cats who continue to accumulate wealth at the expense of the majority poor.”

“Instead of coming up with plans to renew to renew dying cities such as Bulawayo, Gweru, Kwekwe and Kadoma, (Mr) Chombo can only think of bringing luxury to (President) Mugabe’s doorstep,” the paper added.

Zvimba already boasts of some of the best roads in Zimbabwe and most households are electrified.

Mugabe has been in power since independence in 1980 and has often been accused of under developing other regions leading to the emergence of a secessionist movement in the southern parts of the country.

His party is also fighting a provision for devolution of power in the new constitutions, which is supported by regions who feel marginalised in the distribution of the national cake.

Foreign Affairs / Fomer Italian PM Jailed by McAdem: 3:58pm On Oct 26, 2012
Italy's former premier Silvio Berlusconi has been jailed for four years for tax fraud.

Berlusconi and others were were accused of masterminding a scheme to buy the rights of U.S. movies at inflated prices through two offshore companies under his control.

Berlusconi, however, is expected to appeal.

The conviction was the media mogul's first; other criminal probes and trials had ended in acquittal or were thrown out for statute of limitations.

Earlier in the week, Berlusconi had announced he wouldn't run for a fourth term.

The 76-year-old media mogul wasn't in the courtroom for the verdict on the case stemming from dealings in his Mediaset business empire.

The verdict comes two days after Berlusconi, 76, announced he will not run for premier in upcoming elections.

The three-time premier stepped down last November after Italy came under mounting market pressure to deal with its high debt load and Berlusconi failed to come up with persuasive financial reforms.

Prosecutors allege the defendants were behind a scheme to purchase the rights to broadcast U.S. movies on Berlusconi's private television networks through a series of offshore companies and had falsely declared the payments to avoid taxes.

Prosecutors further alleged the inflated the price for the TV rights of some 3,000 films as they relicensed them internally to Berlusconi's networks, pocketing the difference amounting to around €250 million.

Other charges of false accounting and false statements in financial reports were thrown out because the statute of limitations expired.

Prosecutors also demanded six years for Paolo Del Bue, a founder of the private Swiss bank Arner, who is accused of money laundering, and three years and eight months for Hollywood producer Frank Agrama.

The trial began in July 2006, but was put on hold by a now-defunct immunity law that shielded the Berlusconi from prosecution while he was premier until it was watered down by the constitutional court. The trial also faced delays as Berlusconi cited conflicts with his schedule as premier.

Berlusconi has been tried numerous times for his business dealings. He has always denied wrongdoing and alleged that the cases were politically motivated. In each case to date, he has been cleared or seen the statute of limitations expire.

The statute of limitations in this case is set to expire sometime next year. In Italy, cases must pass two levels of appeal before the verdicts are final.
Berlusconi also is on trial in Milan on charges of paying for sex with an under-age teenager and trying to cover it up

Religion / A Serious And Urgent Prayer For The Nation !!!!!!!! by McAdem: 9:01pm On Oct 14, 2012
Some month ago in my church,my pastor said that there was a vision being revealed that all these shedding of blood in this country were been perpetrated by the mighty ones in the country.Thereby using Boko haram ,fatal accidents and communal clashes e.t.c as excuses for the shedding of blood. He went further to let us know that these people made vow of blood with the devil as a sacrifice in each state of the federation, and that the blood of innocents are been spilled everyday, those of the ones we have been hearing and that of ones unheard of.All these because of wealth and position. We have been praying against these people and that their vows of shedding blood should backfire on them and their family.

I have been meditating on this prophecy since, been troubled and praying along also, praying that my blood and that of my family should not be wasted. Base on this assertion I implore Nairaland Christians to let us rise up and pray for the country and rebuke these wicked people in this country rather than fighting ourselves unnecessarily.

GOD heal and bless our country. Amen
