Kidnapping is a great nuisance in Nigeria now. It has also taken the challenge to security and economy of the nation to the highest level. A sensitive and uncompromized government should be on it heels to put an end to it in the shortest possible time. Here are two emerging technologies that can be deployed to put an end to kidnapping with little or no military/police force.

1. Investing in, and deploying few cash notes made with the newly developed smart paper containing ultra-thin, undetectable Radio Frequency Identification Chips (RFID).

With this technology, this cash can be easily tracked to the unsuspecting bearers. Whenever any kidnapping case is reported, the security agents can include one of this special cash notes in the ransom bundle of cash to be delivered to the kidnappers. After the safe release of victims, security agent can then track the money, and take necessary actions to kill or arrest the suspects. If this is sustained, kidnapping (even as a business) will be frustrated and stopped. This will also frustrate bank and bullion van robbery.

2. Going absolutely cashless.

Government should make almost effort to run a cashless economy to the extent that even Okada man and roadside petty traders will have to engage in cashless transactions. This must also be made easy, smart and absolutely affordable for the masses, to achieve easy and absolute compliance. Banks and ATM machines should also be closed to cash transactions. This way, every electronically moved money can be traced to an individual. This will also save a lot of money spent on cash movement and the risks involved. Countries like Sweden, Chain, Canada etc are now on cashless economy, and the don't have halve of the economic and security challenges in Nigeria.
